:surfweb: for financial reasons:scared: job worries, etc,... we decided not to go to disney this summer. After walking away from a car accident in which my 1 month old car was totaled I decided that life is too short and I am going to begin planning our next trip to WDW:banana::banana::banana:
This will be our fourth trip to WDW, each time we flew jet blue. I think this time we are going to drive. We live in the Syracuse NY area and I figure it is a two day drive. I have a friend who is driving back to Syracuse as I type from WDW and I will ask him how the driving was. If anyone has any advise on the drive I would appreciate it. :worship:
We will have to decide what hotel to stay in this time. On our previous trips we stayed at CBR and CSR. We loved both resorts, but found CSR fit us better and the last two trips were made to there. Im not sure where we will stay in 2010, dont know if we will just save air fare $ or put those dollars into a delux resort, time will tell.
I have to start a new countdown clock for our trip, thats kinda my offical first step.

:yay: We are hoping to be there July 2010 :cool1:
We will be driving too but from Jersey. We plan to stop one night. From what I have read on the Dis, leaving on a Sat or Sunday is the best as far as less traffic.
We will probably go back to POP (last time was 2007) but someone in my family is causing a ruckus and wants to go to All Star Music for their Mickey waffles:rotfl: Wonder if they still make them?
I wonder when we can book the hotel?

I'm planning for next June 30th to July 9th. Although, those dates could be moved 1 week up or back,we are DEFINITELY going to WDW for 10 days!!!!!!!
I'm trying to figure out what will be better;the week before the 4th or after the 4th. Also, because we stay at the Dolphin,I'm looking into what convention will be at the hotel when we are. This is VERY important!:goofy:

Hi everyone....:goodvibes
I'm happy to see that I am not the only crazy one planning a trip for next July :lmao:
We are looking at flying down June 29 and staying at either the Swan or Dolphin for a week, then maybe hopping on a cruise from Port Canaveral. We will be celebrating my son's birthday (and mine too). I already have lots of surprises planned for him....:thumbsup2...I just love the planning stage, it's half the fun!
Happy planning everyone!

Count me in! We are hoping to do a 3 day cruise from Port Canaveral and 6 days at DW. (If the economy will cooperate) We want to go in July but we're not sure which week. I think I want to avoid July 4th. DH and I are trying to suprise the kids. I hope I can keep a secret for a year.;)

My Kids begged to go this year, but we've gone the past 3 summers, so we thought we'd try something new. Just got back from DC and Busch Gardens, Williamsburg-and although we had a really good time...it JUST WASN'T DISNEY.
We are looking forward to next summer-we usually go last week of June, first week of July...Let's get the planning started!!!!!

I am looking into July 2010 as well. My wife is a little un-decided though at this point.:confused3 Last year we took our first ever trip from Ontario it was a 24 hour drive. We are looking at flying from Buffalo next time. I am not sure of dates yet it will depend on when my 2 week holiday at work falls next July.
Happy planning everyone

We are going end of June 2010. I have not decided yet if I am staying 1 week at Disney and then renting a Villa in Orlando for a week to go to Universal and Seaworld-or If I am going to just do 10 days at Disney. Not sure yet. I think we are driving down from Mass next year. Can't wait till August so I can book it!

We're planning a trip for July 2010!!! :cool1:
We plan to surprise the kids Christmas morning and tell them we're going to Disney! I don't know how much longer I can keep it a secret, though! :rolleyes1 Everytime DD walks into the office and sees me on some Disney site I have to hurry hide the page!
After we tell them, we're going to let them help plan the rest of the vacation (where to eat and so forth).
We really hope to stay at the new Bay Lake Towers! Hopefully Disney is going to have some GREAT offers for next year- like the 4/3 deal again! That would be awesome!!! :cheer2:

Yep, we are. We will be making our fourth July trip in 2010. It will be our third July 4th trip. We love Disney on the 4th! For this trip, I'd like to be able to afford the Poly, but all that will depend on codes!

Hey There!!! Just got back from WDW July 7th to the 15th. We stayed at the GF and it was 70% FULL. Thats what all the CMs where telling us. We travel once a year to WDW and this was the lowest crowd experience we ever saw. The popular rides in the parks where crowded but not half as bad as usual.
I am sure if this helps because if the economy changes (and hopefully it does) I am assuming so will the crowds next year. The only thing I can tell you is that the last 3 years the crowds where never that bad (more crowded then this year but not horrible) due to value season being pushed back to late July. Years ago value season started right after the 4th of July. I think it starts around July 20th or so.
Good Luck and have fun planning!!!

Hi everyone! We are considering going in July of 2010 too. I've only ever been to Disney in March and December. Can someone tell me just how hot it is during July? What about pricing? It won't let me check the price of rooms this far out. Does anyone know how much it might be roughly for a Value resort?
Thanks!

You can check 2009 rates on alllears.net for an idea of costs. I guess it depends on what you are used to in terms of temps. Typically it is in the 90's and quite hot (with pop up showers) but the weather has been odd everywhere this year, so you never know...

Right now our plan is to go in July 2010 but reading all of the posts about the tour groups in July is making us think about pushing our trip back to August. What do you think? We are staying off-site in a house. We just went in May 2009 and are planning for next summer already. I don't know how much we should change our plans due to the tour groups...decisions, decisions!

We always go in July!
This year we were there June 27-July 13th, then we went to Hilton Head for 4 nights/5 days. It was our first time driving instead of flying and we loved it!
This year I think we're going to go July 21-August 7 - two weeks at Disney and possibly 3 nights at Universal. Hopefully we'll stop for a few nights at Hilton Head again. Let the planning begin!
We'll be staying at either BC or YC. I'm trying to figure out whether to book BC gv CL and regular ddp or go with a standard room at either YC or BC and book the deluxe ddp. The price of the regular ddp went up for that time period so there really isn't too much difference anymore in price between the two plans. Decisions, decisions!

We were there in mid Aug 08 and te tour groups were there. We had touring plans that really didn't match their plans... One time we entered a park with a large group so we went the opposite direction. :)
I would think May might be a better time if you can do that again -- kids are still in school. (As am I which is why it is June/ July for us.):cutie:

DD graduates from HS in June and Disney is her graduation gift! Seems a lot of people are celebrating this way.

I have my family booked for POP June 29-July 6th 2010. It is soooo far away but I am on these boards just about every day getting tips and advice. I just love reading about it, talking about it and planning all that I can. It helps keep me excited about it. I know I'm not the only one but I am also dreaming about the next two trips I want to take as well. I'd like to go at Halloween time and Christmas time. This time will probably be only time in the middle of summer cuz' I want my step-son to experience it, and we have to go while we have him for our summer visitation. His mother is not going to agree for him to go at any other time outside of our contractual visit, so he will probably only get to go this one time. We've only been once on our honeymoon, so this will be first time with kids. Our daughter will also be with us(21 months at time of travel), and I am looking forward to it, despite the crowds and heat!

Hi! We are a family of four and ever since we decided we were definitely taking our daughters to Disney next year, we have been (rather I have been) a planning maniac. I know I'll chill out here soon and just wait and "save" for it but right now I'm too daggone excited. :cheer2: Even my daughers think I'm nuts but I feel if I plan it right, they are going to have a trip of a lifetime. We are leaving Delaware on July 16 by car and will check-in at the Polynesian Resort on the 17th for 6 nights. We have never stayed at this resort. Usually we are off property and have done the Contemporary for 2 nights during a stay about 8 years ago. This trip our girls will be 11 and 15. It can't get here soon enough, however, we have a long wait just like you and planning and anticipation is 1/2 the fun. Anyone doing a package? If you have advice planning the trip, I'm all EARS! 321 days and counting!!! Sad isn't it? :rotfl:

We have been planning DD's Feb 2011 trip since March and I started thinking of a few things for our Sept/Oct 2013 trip with both kids for MNSSHP. Now that the b4g3 deal has come out I am planning a trip for DH and I for March 2010 :cool1:.
Feb 2011 trip: I have DD's autograph book made already. I've printed half of the pages for my planning journal and saved all the pages I am using for DD's journal. Plus I already bought her dress and shoes for BBB and 1/2 of her gifts "from minnie mouse".
Sept/Oct 2013 trip: I saved the autograph pages for both kids book and bought supplies to make the books. Designed or saved almost all of the pages for my planning journal.
March 2010 trip: Since DH just said last night that we should go, all I've done so far is figure out most of the ADR's we want.

We are planning our 4th trip for July 16th through July 25th. We said that we would never go back in July or August because of the crowds but our DD 16th birthday is in April and with TAKS test and Graduation for my DS, so we had to put it off until July. :scared1::scared1::scared1: I would rather go in September but DD is a cheerleader and her BFF is also and that's football season, so that's out.
I'm really scared about the crowds...
We will be staying at the Polynesian. Taking our DD and her BFF, DH and me. I can't wait. :cool1::cool1::cool1:

We are booked for a FW Cabin the last week of July! Yay! Me, DH, and DD (2) Our only dining plan is b'fast in the cabin in our PJs! Driving down from South Carolina.
Don't fear the July crowds! We always go in July (only non-July trip was over Christmas) so maybe I just don't know the difference...
I can't wait for DD to see everything!

This is the first July visit for me. Still ironing out the dates and have to choose my resort or resorts. Might do a split stay. I have been in both June and August so I am thinking July will be similar in terms of heat and crowds??

I know it is going to be hotter than a *&#@*!%:scared1:, but tell me about the crowds:crowded:. We have been twice in August so I know it is hot, but the crowds not so much (we have been the 3rd week of August).
I know to get up early - mid-day off - then back to the parks in the evening. I am more worried about the crowds. Anyone have any pics that can scare us half to death :rotfl:
Thanks and have a great night!

I wish I could help you - I've only ever gone in July and over Christmas - so I don't really have anything to compare the crowds to.
I will tell you, though, get out there early. I remember noticing the crowds being much "thicker" around 10-11 after getting off a ride and thinking "wow - there are a lot more people here". You are right about the mid-day break - always a good idea - then you will much more rested for afternoon/evening crowds.
Like I said, I only know the big crowds. Guess I better not go during slower time and see the difference... it might ruin my tolerance! :lmao:

Are you saying I should prepare myself to be like a sardine in a can? I am thinking I should make ressies for any indoor meal during this time. Do you agree?
Thanks for the response.

August is my preferred time to travel to WDW, especially when scheduling around children's school starts. If your August trip is before free dining you'll do fine because the crowds aren't too bad except for the week-ends (big emphasis on MK week-ends!). In August people are already getting ready for back to school and some schools have already begun. I think Florida schools begin the second week of August because they are out around Memorial Day for the summer.
As you say August is hot than blazes, but we just did our thing and my DS was a teenager so we seldom returned to the resort in the afternoon, but we were up early and went all day. Those types of days makes if difficult on the feet!
We are moving ours up this year, 7/31 through 8/7, to accommodate a grandniece (5) and a cousin (6) plus my DS who is 20, and like you the crowds concern me!

I know, you're askin' yourself,"how the heck can it be awesome with all those freekin' people in the blazin' heat?" Well, let me just say that if you do it right,it ain't bad!LOL
Seriously,I'm sure you have read plenty up on vacationing at WDW in the heat of the summer. I'm sure you read that the key to enjoying WDW in the summer is;GET TO THE PARKS EARLY!!!! This means no leasurely breakfast at 10 in the morning! If you can get to the parks by 9am (even 9:30)and leave by 11-11:30,you'll miss the crowds and the hottest part of the day.We absolutely love our summer vacations at WDW! Parks in the morning, pool in the afternoon and parks again at night,PERFECT!!!!! C'mon July!!!!:goofy:

Count us in!
We'll be there July 17-August 1, 2010!
We're driving down from Jersey. We used to always fly but last year we drove for the first time and loved it. We'll leave the night of the 16th, drive straight through and stay the first night at Buena Vista Palace and Spa. We walk over to RFC at DTD and then hit the bed early.
We'll check into BC early on the morning of the 18th and then two glorious weeks at BC.
I'll be making our ADRs starting on the 19th of this month and I can't wait. It always makes me feel one step closer.
Now if we can just get AP rates as good as the ones out to June 3 I will be one happy camper!

I love going in July. I just booked our July trip this moring for the 18th-25th at GF. Last year we went in August, but it just wasn't the same as July. July actually felt like a vacation for all of us. The parks are open late. I work in a school and when I got back from vacation last August, it was hurry up and get things ready in school! I didn't feel like I was on vacation at all. My children also had a few days to rest and they went back to school too.
Near the end of our vacation last year, the fall decorations were up. Summer was gone! No more August for us. July at Disney here we come!!!

I just made a reservation for a FW Cabin for July 21-25 (right after value prices start!).
Does anyone think there would be any advantage to pushing it back a week, or even two?
I wondered if there might be a trend of "specials" in other areas as the summer wears on longer... or whatever!
Let me know what you think! (I'm a teacher, so the first week of August is the latest I can go)

What do you think the chances of that will be? From what I hear, Disney doesn't feel the need to make those offers for summer because it is so busy already. But, like you, I can still hope.

Well last summer they extended the Stay 7 pay for 4 into July so I think there's a chance. Even though the economy is recovering travel is still one of the industries that's hurting. Hopefully AP rates will be decent.

I happened to notice that several of you were Teachers. I know we all pick resorts for various reasons, but if you are looking for a great value, don't forget about Swan/Dolphin. We are booked there for $149 a night the last week of July using the Teacher rate. S/D isn't everyone's cup of tea - may not even be ours since we've never stayed there before, but the price is on par with a value for a great location and amenities!

The Dolphin is one of my favorites! I got a great teacher's rate of $129 last November and $149 for next July. Personally, that's such an awesome deal and it's a GREAT resort, so I compeltely agree, do check it out!

I saw the teacher discount there - we will probably take advantage of that when DD gets a little older. Right now, we still like to get a suite when we travel (better naptimes, like having a kitchen) - so on our budget it was between ASMu family suites and the cabins. We ended up going with the cabin because it was closer to MK.
The Swan and Dolphin resorts don't have suites, do they? If they do, I might check and see if they do teacher discounts on those.
Are the teacher discounts on specific types of rooms, or are all the rooms discounted a certain amount for teachers?

There's a great Swan/Dolphin thread where they have tons of really knowledgable people who probably will have the answers to your questions. The people are super nice and helpful, too. It's under the Disney Resorts tab. I totally understand about the suites, we did that too when DD was younger and it worked really well for her.

I just taught my 2 year old that when I ask "When are we going to visit Mickey" she says "In July" It's too cute - she has no idea what that means.
She'll see me on the Disney websites and she'll say "Go to Mickey's house?"
Is it July yet???
Has anyone started scheduling their ADRs yet?
It's 180 days, right?

I don't where you are planning on staying, but the deluxe resorts start their "value" season on July 19th.
That is one of the reasons we picked our date - the cabins aren't deluxe, but are on the same "value" schedule for some reason.
Summer is great! Nothing says "vacation" like quick-melting ice cream and cooling off in the pool mid-afternoon!
