5. Walking up Main Street towards the castle
4. There is just somthing about walking through World Showcase at night after park closing with almost no people and the music playing and then towards the front past the fountian and the twinkling colors in the sidewalks... don't quite know how else to explain it.
3. Riding the monorail
2. Wishes
1. Sorin' (I actually cried riding with my 4 yr old DD on our last night it was the last ride and most of the time I was just watching her reactions... plus its my fav ride)

5. Walking down Main Street towards to castle... adventure and fun awaits! You know it's going to be a GREAT day today.
4. Racing through an empty Pirates queue, with that smell... you know the one I mean, all misty and damp and cool. You just can't wait to get on the ride, and you're getting closer, and it's going to be awesome!
3. Reading the gravestones outside of Haunted Mansion. It always gives me that "I'm actually here!" choked up feeling.
2. The ride queue for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad... every time I hear the twang of banjo theme music start to play I remember the trip that I took with my Great-granddaddy, and how he sat next to me right up front on my first ever roller coaster ride, so I wouldn't be scared. I was probably seven or eight, and he was 90. Loved that man!
1. Wishes. What can you say, at the end of a long day at Magic Kingdom, when the fireworks and the music play. I am such a sucker, but I've been Disney-ized, cradle to grave! That lump gets awfully hard to swallow. Not to mention the day is OVER!

I get misty eyed for everything, but some of my highlights are:
1. Seeing the Sign: after a 20 hour drive, it's so amazing to actually be there!
2. emerging from under the railway station and stepping into main street with the castle up ahead, I always cry like a baby for a second... it just brings back so many memories.
3. Seeing my kids picked for FOTL.
4. Running in the room and the kids jumping on the beds in their excitement
5. I can't pick just one now...ok, here's one... DD has high functioning autism, and hates loud noises, so she wears her "mickey ears" which are ear protectors w/ mickey stickers. Even so, she couldn't handle fireworks at all. This trip, we went to MNSSHP and were getting ready to go, when DD actually asked to stay. I will always cherish the image of her, all lit up by the fireworks, spinning to the music in her Sleeping Beauty dress. with a huge smile on her face. It's hard to describe, but it was such a magical moment for our family, and I'm actually choking up even writing about it now.

5. Pineapple floats and people watching
4. Seeing wishes at a table up by the window at California Grill w/ my hubby while enjoying dessert
3. Everything at the Beach Club- from the lobby to Beaches and cream to the gift shop. Don't know why but for ME this resort is all about Disney magic. Even if we don't stay there I go over just to walk around, or eat a meal.
2. The welcome song at MK and walking down main st. towards the castle
1. The tea cups - but the lump is there for a different reason :-)

This is the sweetest thread ever!:lovestruc
I have a feeling I will have a whole new list this Fall when we take our 3 year old WDW, I almost cried just watching her face when we went to see playhouse disney live and mickey walked out for the first time :goodvibes
But at least for now I would have to say:
1.)That blowing out the lights part of illuminations - so cool!
2.)the Fireworks - thats always my time to slow down and really take in the enjoyment of being in disneyworld
3.)The castle
4.)not necessarily a lump in my throat moment, but just one of those little favorite things: the smells and sounds when waiting to get on Pirates or Splash Mountain for the first time that trip
5.)The posters under the railroad at MK, they always signify arriving at Disneyworld for me, ever since I was a little kid.

04-18-2009, 04:48 PM
5. Illuminations (always have a teary moment)
4. That first walk down Main St. (we're home!)
3. Wishes (right there or from the beach at the Polynesian, it never disappoints)
The following two require a quick explanation. The first time we took the kids to Disney was December 2001. We had booked it early in the year and most people expected us to cancel. Many did. We flew down, and the place was so empty it was eerie. We had a great time - no lines, lots of extra attention for my princesses who always went to the parks in their respective princess dresses. They were 6 and 4 and 4. So one of the 4s was dressed as Cinderella during the MVMCP and during the parade Cinderella and PCs float stopped right in front of us and Cinderella saw my Cinderella and got PC to look and he did a double take at her and my DD and my DD was so excited - well - the moment was priceless! So my number 2. is princess recognition/identity confusion
and number 1:
remember its Dec 2001 - we're at the Candlelight Processional and they end with "Let there be Peace" and the doves fly and all of us (adults) just sob.
Thanks for letting me relive these...:goodvibes
Wishes - especially the start & end
Walking on Main Street at the start of any trip
One Man's Dream - the Movie
Castle Lights in December
Tigers in AK - when they are up and active it is full engagement

Some wonderful moments!!! I am filled with emotion, after reading each one!
This year we are celebrating good health!!!!!! My DD had been very ill in 2007 and this has changed our life! Her health has improved but the long days in ICU I will never forget!!!
We had been to Disney in April 2007 and in July 2007 she was fighting for her life! When she was well enough to talk we would recall our trip to Disney! This would make her smile! Then she would watch the home movies from our trip!
As, you can tell from my posts my throat still gets a lump in it! Take a moment when you are there to really take it all in!
:wizard: Looking forward to 2009!!! All the best!!!

Ok so now for my list
1. The castle: The first glimpse is so magical and makes my heart go all fluttery
2. When the torches get blown out before Illuminations. Even my cynical 11 yr old's mouth dropped open as she whispered "How do they do that?"
3. Running up the line to go on Big Thunder Mountain with my children as we all giggled with excitement.
4. My husband looking at me, smiling at the kids and whispering in my ear "We did it! We're here"
5. Turning around for that last look at the castle on our last day and hoping and praying we would all return soon.

Woah, some great lists there! Mine are:

4. Meeting Mickey and getting a huge hug from him!
3. Queuing for Splash, my favourite Disney ride!
2. Wishes, I only have to hear 'Starlight, Starbright...' and it's got me!
1. Rounding the corner into Main St. and seeing Cinderella Castle for the 1st time, I get goosebumps and just well up walking towards it.
I have a feeling there'll be a most certain two more on our trip next year and these will be, meeting Tinkerbell & Stitch, who I didn't manage to find on our trip last year and I totally LOVE him! I think I'll freak out when I finally find him and meet him!

Oh gosh these are hard...so my 5 are in no particular order except that maybe #1 for me is:
Seeing Bear in the Big Blue House roll in the parade at HS. Knowing that parade was ending in just a few short weeks, and after that Bear would likely never be seen in the parks again.:sad1: He is a very special character to me, probably the only one I have any real emotion over. I would typically not "get" the character thing as an adult...but seeing Bear proved me wrong, and yes, I cried. So now I would never judge any adult who gets excited or moved about characters. I just wish my Bear would come back. :sad1:
hearing "when you wish upon a star" during the fireworks. That song always makes me weepy...hearing it while staring at the castle and seeing the fireworks is just icing.
that guy who does the voices for the transportation.....hearing him say"you are now approaching the magic kingdom"
and this time I know it will be especially sweet when I hear the monorail voice system saying "we are now approaching Disney's Contemporary resort" because that will be where we get to get off! :yay:
The first time my daughter saw a character...it was Cinderella in the castle. That whole first night was just something I'll always remember. She was just AMAZED. And she lost her shoe going up the stairs in her little Cinderella costume...how fitting.
Seeing my daughter dance with Cinderella, after rejecting the prince's request. :lmao: I did cry while she danced, and Cinderella taught her to curtsy...I cry everytime I watch the video too.
Disneycrazy!!

1. Walking into Magic Kingdom that first day and seeing the castle. :wizard: It is normal for me to wipe tears away.
2. My 3 year old son giving Minnie a kiss on her nose at Chef Mickey for the first time.
3. Wishes
4. Driving on the road, going under the big sign that says Walt Disney World at the entrance. :car: I get emotional!!:cloud9:
5. Haunted Mansion, Pirates of Caribean,...brings back childhood memories on the older rides.

Here's my five, in no particular order, from our recent trip:
Pulling through the gates with my DD for the first time ever:
http://i40.tinypic.com/k3tc1y.jpg
Having the forethought to give my daughter my camera to let her capture her view of the castle, the first time she saw it. This moment in her life will be captured on film forever:
http://i40.tinypic.com/xn52za.jpg
Taking an IllumiNations cruise - worth every penny:
http://i42.tinypic.com/3166kgg.jpg
Booking an early CRT breakfast and watching my DD run to the castle while saying COME ON, MY-MOMMY! Princesses won't wait for us, we gotta HURRY!
http://i43.tinypic.com/29w76g8.jpg
And finally ... seeing SpectroMagic with my daughter. I remember the old Main Street Electrical Parades from when I was a kid, and this was seriously my only "MUST DO" the whole trip with her.

I'm a crier anyways - my kid's birthday parties and most recently DS4's first t-ball (how emarassing since my DH is the coach! :rotfl:) - and Disney's no different for me.
I love everyone's lists. It's amazing how so many seem to have similar things - maybe they should install tissue boxes all down Main Street and during Wishes! :rotfl:
So I guess here are mine - in no particular order:
*Wishes - I LOVE it! The first time we saw it (thanks to the DIS), we sat on the bridge and Tink flew over our head. Couldn't have asked for anything more special and fitting for our first trip. I cry every time despite trying to distract myself trying to take pictures!
*My DS2's love for the characters. This past trip in Feb, DS2 almost took off Eeyore's head so he could give him "love":
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn227/newtodis/Feb%20Trip/carterkissingmickey.jpg
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn227/newtodis/Feb%20Trip/carterkisstiger.jpg
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn227/newtodis/Feb%20Trip/carterkisseeyore.jpg
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn227/newtodis/Feb%20Trip/carterexcited.jpg
*First view of the castle - despite what park we go to first, I never really feel like I'm at Disney until seeing that castle!
*My kid's excitement for all things Disney - From characters to attractions to the planning dvd, I'm so happy my family loves all things Disney!! DS2 has the excitement of his first visit every time he watches the dvd and goes to the parks. I pray they never loose that!
*Family Time/Leaving the "Real World" Behind - Disney is literally the only place in the world that I've found that I can walk away from whatever's going on in my life and enjoy my vacation. I enjoy my family, the parks, characters, everything without worrying about what's going on at the office, home, mail, whatever. I never want to loose that feeling while I'm there!
Wow, it's hard to get it down to five things! Disney's special to us - we took our first trip in Feb 2008 and have been four times in a matter of a year with at least two more trips planned for this year. I'm so thankful DH and I can take these trips for our kids!! :goodvibes
Thanks for such a great thread!! It's a tear jerker but reminds me of all the reasons I love Disney!

My lump moments...not in any particular order!
1) Driving under the WDW sign and knowing your are now on property!
2) Putting on the ol' Mickey ears as you are about to go to a park for the day.
3) Wishes
4) Small World....sorry too many childhood memories there
5) Carousel of Progress.....it's the only ride that Walt actually "touched" that is at WDW...so it is where I feel his presence most at WDW. (Disneyland is my old home park, so I think that is why it matters to be in some bizarre way.) So when hearing "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow..." the lump happens.

Here are mine, in the order that they occur during each trip.
5. Driving under the WDW gate and realizing I'm home :cloud9:
4. Checking in to my resort and getting the first smell of "the Disney smell"
3. MK Welcome Show - I hide my tears with sunglasses too! :cool2:
2. Walking under the archway of the Magic Kingdom train station, reading "Here you leave today and enter a world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy" stepping onto Main St USA, turning the corner and seeing the most beautiful sight in the world - Cinderella Castle! :sad1: (happy tears!)

As I sit here, and have my tears clouding my vision, I can agree with all of your statements..5.I really get a lump in my throat when I leave MK for the last time::sad1:4. I love entering the airport and knowing that I will soon see the "hands". 3. I love the anticipation of the little ones that have never been, including my own. 2. entering the resort and truly knowing that the magic has begun:cool1::yay:1. finally entering MK for the first time and having the castle right in front of me....When I look around, there is so many happy and excited faces.:woohoo:pixiedust:I am anticipating all these reactions when I arrive in August. I am so blest to be able to take my sister's little granddaughter and she has never been and she is so excited...pixiedust:princess:

These lists are all so great. I really think nothing beats seeing your child's face the first time they enter the Magic Kingdom.

#1 is Wishes! for me too.... even with all the build up of listening to it in the car on a daily basis with the kids, it always delivers. Please don't change it, Disney!!
#2 When my daughter spots a character, points and excitedly says, "Look, mommy and daddy!!!!! Jiminy Cricket!!!" or whoever it is... basically, you have to catch them in the right phase (not scared of characters) and in the right mood to want to go see said character. Last time we went it was Chef Mickey's and every character she spotted for the first time was a shrieking squeal!
#3 is the opening ceremony as well. Any park is good but MK is best. Even the EMH half opening will get me!
#4 Fantasmic, at the beginning! I haven't seen this show in years! My children and husband have never seen it...but I just love that music!
#5 The MK parades...well, maybe not the new one yet :sad2: but Dreams Come True and Spectromagic...

2. View out of resort window (opening the curtains at AKV and seeing the savanna, especially at sunrise) or looking out and seeing the castle and the fireworks at night.
3. Walking up main street to the castle
4. Great CMs and the first “welcome home” of a visit
5. Just watching the kids “take it all in” (I guess that is really #1)

I don't think I have 5 but I have 1 very special one.....
The first time we took out youngest DD, she was 6 at the time. We got on the monorail and got to ride with the driver. When we turned that corner and you get the first glimps of the castle. My DD looked and was unimpressed but I cried. I still get teary when I see the castle.

This is SO important to me and our family. We truly do feel like we are in another world...nothing else comes close. :grouphug:

Philharmagic totally did me in.
You see, my "little girls" are now 22, 21 and 17. When they were little, they watched Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King, over and over. Their favorite Disney movies! Of course, we all got to know the songs by heart.
When I sat watching Philharmagic with my big girls next to me, once again, hearing those beloved songs after so many years and realizing just how FAST the years went and wishing I could have my little sweet girls in pigtails back for just ONE MORE DAY.....well, I just about lost it. Thank goodness it was dark in there so they didn't see the tears flowing....

What a great thread. We have only been once, last December, but it was a trip of a lifetime. When we first made the decision to go, we were in the process of building our home. I told my DH that I wanted to take the kids to Disney World before they got any older, and we really thought this would be the only trip. The trip was so magical, that we're planning to go back in October 2010, and hopefully for many years to come.
So many of the other posts brought back memories of little moments I had kinda forgotten about. . .
#5 - Seeing Tinkerbell fly down at the beginning of Wishes.
#4 - The end of Fantasmic and Mickey's "Some imagination, huh?". Simple words, but really, when you think about it, look at how one man's imagination changed the world.
#3 - The musical fountains and twinkling sidewalks at Epcot. Our first night we went to Epcot and went straight to Coral Reef to eat. We finished quite late, Illuminations was already over, and people were leaving the parks. We stumbled up on the twinkling sidewalks and stood there just mesmerized, looking at the sidewalk and watching the fountains go in sync with the music. That's when it hit me I was really, finally, here.
#2 - Riding Space Mountain our last night. We went to MVMCP, and got to ride Space Mountain over and over. It was riding it that last time that I *knew* we would be back.
#1 - Meeting Cinderella. I was having my picture taken with her, and my husband jokingly said "Aren't you a little old for this?". It took me 32 years to get to Disney World and, yes, I was enjoying it like a typical 6-year-old would! Anyways, Cinderella leaned over, and whispered in my ear, "When you're in Disney World, you're never too old to be a princess". I about lost it right there, and it still tears me up just thinking about it!

1. Watching wishes with my mom and sister and leaving the MK wondering if this will be our last time being there together and hoping that it's not.
2. Riding Splash Mtn, COP, and Small World. Those three always give me the "I'm really here and never want to leave" lump
3. Having breakfast at Crystal Palace at 8:15 and having main street to ourselves. We always get pics in front of the castle with no other people in the background. It's great.
4. Watching Fantasmic or Illuminations and hearing all the music from the show and the leaving the park afterwards again wondering when or if we will ever be back. Theres just something about being in the parks late at night period that puts a lump in my throat, lol. I guess with the lights and music it just seems even more "magical" at night.
5. Riding the monorail/buses/boats and hearing the little announcements they make as the hotel or MK comes in to view for the first time.
There are just so dang many, lol. I'm a very emotional person and will get teary eyed at the drop of a hat. My family makes fun of me everytime. I even cry when I get a new vacation planning dvd in the mail and watch it for the first time.....ok or the 10th time.
This was a great thread and I got teary eyed just reading it. Thanks OP

Good grief, I'm crying like a baby! I've only been once, and I cried the whole time, and we're heading down this summer for the first time with my girls, so this will list will be revised then!
1. the Arch Walt Disney world
2. First view of the castle!
3. Stading in front of the "geyser" at WL, hearing my new DH say "Good morning, dear wife"
4. Watching EPCOT's new years fireworks, bringing in the new year as a married lady!
5. Meeting Mickey for the first time. I actually said "I've been waiting my whole life to meet you" like the little girl in the commercial that was popular then!

5. On our very first visit in '04 our girls were 4 & 7 and were caught up in the magic like crazy! Seeing their expressions when they saw the castle for the first time had tears running down my face!
4. On that same trip, Illuminations was our first fireworks experience. DD 7 was totally overwhelmed by it all. The look on her face was beautiful! Awe, a little fear, amazement and then finally joy as she got used to it.
3. I had been to WDW once when I was a kid and my favorite memory was of playing with Chip and Dale at a dinner at the Contemporary. Years later DD7, painfully shy, would always hide behind me if a character came near her. Until one day at the MK we arrived a little late and missed rope drop. We had just gone under the archway, and Pinocchio runs off of a porch and grabs our family, dragging us inside the building. Inside we find no people, and Minnie, Mickey, Gepeto, Goofy, Chip & Dale, the girl mice from Cinderella, and Alladdin. We get them all to ourselves! Chip & Dale somehow convinced DD to join a conga line and dance with them. She was giggling and having a blast, dancing and laughing! It was the most amazing moment seeing my shy girl let loose with the chipmunks I had loved as a child!
2. One busy moring at AK, we were in line to get pasteries in Africa. DD7 was standing right next to me and DD4 was holding my hand. All of a sudden, a huge crowd swept by us, and the next thing I know DD7 is gone! DH and I start yelling her name and go in opposite directions looking for her. When we finally found her (3 minutes later, but it felt like an eternity!) she was with a cast member, showing him the paper with our cell numbers that we had given her in case of an emergency like this. Talk about lump in the throat!
1. Wishes, every single time. But the first time we saw it, DD4 really believed all wishes come true. So everytime a single firework arched across the sky she would make wishes. "I wish that my family will always love each other." "I wish that everyone is always happy." "I wish for a baby brother!" I still get all misty eyes when I think about her innocence and belief!

This thread has cost me a lot of tissues!! I agree with Steph-in-ky...I cry while watching the planning DVD's as well! I don't know if I could pick a top 5, but if I did my #1 would be the opening to MK...it ALWAYS seems to be so 'dusty' there, for both DH and myself! Thank goodness for wrap around sunglasses!! The kids always make fun of us.
Someone else mentioned how it was the only place they could forget about everything else and enjoy vacation. That's exactly how it is for DH. A lot of people can't understand why we have gone every year for the last 4 years and are going again soon. Are we tired of Disney???? Bite your tongue! I hope we are NEVER too old for or too tired of the Mouse!!
DH and I were 35 when we visited for the first time and we're glad we had the opportunity to take our kids when they were young. I hope THEY never feel too old for Disney. When there was a chance that our trip was going to be cancelled because of work for DH, we were trying to figure out another time to go. DS (13) was willing to give up a lot of his events so that we could go.
We travel a long way from northern Nova Scotia, Canada to get to Disney each year and I wouldn't change a thing...tears and all.:thumbsup2

Oooh, I've basically teared up at everyone's posts!!
I have some that involve me as an older child and adult, but I cannot wait until I have children and I can see their faces as they experience WDW!!
5 - Fantasmic!
4 - DH's face when he saw the very first attraction, It's Tough to Be A Bug. He's just a huge kid!!!
3 - Watching the Gorillas at AK - looking into their eyes, that close up, there was just something really deep about it, and I'll never forget that.
2 - Wishes on the balcony at California Grill... I teared up when my DH pulled me into his arms, whispered "I love you" and kissed my forehead, with a little girl next to us singing "Wishes!"
1 - There is a picture of my parents, before they got divorced, on our last trip to Disney - they're kissing in front of Tom Sawyer's Island, and that photo brings tears to my eyes every single time I see it (or think about it!). It was only a year before their divorce, but you can see that Disney magic working... :wizard:
