I had my trip planned for Aug 2-7, 2009 at AKV~Kidani, then I received the email about Kids Sail Free and could not resist the opportunity to go on a cruise also at such a reduced price.
The cruise is planned for Aug 8-14.

My dilemma is I need somewhere to stay the night of Friday, August 7th. I banked my leftover points since I thought I would not be using them. So, I will be staying somewhere on a cash basis. Any suggestions?

If it were me, I'd stay at BCV. Since you won't be going to the parks, you can spend all day at SAB. :cloud9:

we have two nights before our crusie booked. the first night we couldn't get in at SSR (and can't use our points yet since BLT is not open yet). So we booked at POP w/an AP discount of $88.00! We won't get in till late that night, and before started renting points and then bought DVC, we stayed there many times! Great food court area!

If money is no option, I agree BCV would be a GREAT day before the cruise!! Before our last cruise, we stayed at Carribbean beach resort, to get us in the "cruise/beach" mood.

Don't know if you have to stay at a WDW area resort or not, but Vero Beach is on the Space Coast not too terribly far from your port and it's cheaper w/cash than WDW DVC resorts.

For an onsite resort, I think OKW is very cruise friendly and will be easier on the pocketbook. I'd want space before a cruise, so the big room, balcony, and bathroom might be nice before you move into tight ship quarters.

Do you have transfers from a Disney resort or are you driving? It looks like there are 4 of you from your little icons, so you can stay just about anywhere. If you are driving, what about going over to the Cape a day early? You can also keep your options open and try to rent cheap "distressed" points when the date gets closer. A weekend night is always easier to get than a weekday.

I do not have a car but would be will to rent one and maybe
stay near the port and visit the area before the cruise.

I second Vero Beach. The resort is beautiful and the cast members are wonderful. My pick would be an Ocean view Inn room. Be sure and request a full ocean view.

I know this is not what your asking. But if you really want to use points, you could borrow from the next year. As long as you have no intention of cancelling it, then it's almost like you used the points that you banked. (Hopefully that makes sense, it makes sense in my head, but not sure if I explained it correctly.;))

If not, I agree with those who suggested Vero Beach!

Now I know why DISboards are so wonderful. I hadn't thought about borrowing points or about enjoying another resort for the day. Thanks for giving me more options.

If I recall, the area surrounding the Port is kind of industrial and stinky. I don't recall there being anything touristy there at all. That being said, though, if you just want a place to lay your head, there are various hotels near the Port that offer free parking and a shuttle for the duration of your cruise. Check the Cruise Boards for more information on that.

I would stay somewhere cheap since it's only for 1 nite and you won't be there very long, or I'd borrow points from next year.

I would stay at a MK deluxe on the monorail as a special last night treat. Watch Wishes and then go home on the monorail. Pefect way to end the stay. :)
