A massive thank you to everyone who participated in one/both of the chats today with my communication students.

Some of them were blown away at how everyone knew everyone's first name. I said, "An online community isn't much different than one in physical space. If you walked into a room of your friends, they would all say hi."

Both went very well and had around 40 people involved.

I really think it opened their eyes to what an online fan community is like.
We'll talk about it in class more next week, and I'll do my best to share their specific thoughts.

Hope you all enjoyed it as well. We'll hopefully do it again in the fall!

PS - Thanks to Kathy for posting a link to the American Idol blog.
If there were more than a month left of class - I might retaliate. :rolleyes1

- Dave

Hope your students got something out of it. :goodvibes

Next time it might help to post beforehand that they're freshmans so we can stay on more appropriate topics. And, that you'd like us to engage them so we can all callout those who are in idle status :upsidedow

I felt bad about all the potent potable chat that went on after you mentioned in the first session that the students were too young to drink/stay off that topic. I never noticed before how much that comes up! :rotfl: :dance3:

cheers,
:flower3:

Today was my first time doing this activity - so it was definitely a learning experience for me as well.

Thanks for trying to "target" the quiet ones. I think all of you would have enjoyed seeing their reactions when someone talked to/about them in chat. We were all in one big lab - so it was an interesting experience for that reason alone.

Thank you for inviting us David. It was a lot of fun, and a great thing to do on a Friday afternoon at the end of the semester. I almost even felt as though I was doing something somewhat work related.

Did they make any interesting comments in lab?

Did they make any interesting comments in lab?

They were amazed at how fast things went.

Whenever someone would ask a specific student a question - everyone would say, "Ooooohh, they're talking about you!"
