Before corporate idiots diced up the Carnation Cafe it was a nice indoor soda fountain. Sorry about the type not being very easy to read and I do remember these so much. MINE MINE MINE

Mammoth Matterhorn Mountain
One of the world's largest sundaes 5 scoops of ice cream, sliced pineapple, 5 sundae toppings, sliced banana, sliced almonds, whipped cream and a cherry.
The one I showed has the new Mickey head sprinkles and is smaller that the original.

Thanks for posting that! I remember eating ice cream sundaes in the Carnation Cafe but my brother swore it was the Gibson Girl. I was right! It was very much like an old fashioned ice cream parlor back in the day...

I love the Matterhorn Sundae - and I especially love the Celebration version if it shown in the photo above! The thing is, when you see it person, it doesn't look as big as you would think it is. In photos, I think it comes across as mammoth. The whipped cream adds dimension to it. In person, it is just a sundae that is oversized a bit. One time, in September 2007, we were sitting in Carantion Cafe and a server walked by with a TRULY massive, gargantuan ice cream concoction of some kind, in a HUGE bowl. To this day, I cannot find out what it was but it looked like it was 10 Matterhorn Sundaes thrown into a huge dish. There were only 2 people eating it, and they could not even make a dent - it was THAT daunting! Everyone in the restaurant turned to stare and gasp and ogle as this enormous confection sailed past. I cannot figure out what this thing was that these people ordered, but I have never seen another one like it in all my Carnation meals!! Does anyone know what this monster could have been? I even asked a Carnation server about it, and they didn't seem to have any clue what it was!

Oh, and Mechurchlady is right - Carnation used to be larger, with an indoor section and an outdoor section. The menu had many more items to choose from on it - more sandwiches and burgers and entrees, and more ice cream things like different milk shakes and different sundaes. I loved it. Not that I don't like the Blue Ribbon Bakery that is in its place now too, but I miss the old layout and menu of Carnation. Once they downsized the restaurant, they downsized the menu too.

Only at DL would you find something like that! That's crazy, brings whole new meaning to the phrase 'made-to-order'.

Sherry, maybe it was some sort of YOMD sundae? Magical Moment sundae?

Oh, that's a good point, Molly. I hadn't thought of that. I know that whetever that monstrous sundae concoction was had to be fairly unusual or else I am sure we would have seen it float by on other Carnation-dining occasions, not to mention that someone else on the DIS would have seen it at some point too. That was the one and only time I saw anything of that magnitude at Carnation or DLR in general. So either it was a YOMD/Magical Moment sort of thing, or as Sherwin said, perhaps they made it to order - like one of the two people at the table said, "Can we get SIX Matterhorn Sundaes all thrown together in a huge bowl?" It looked like a sundae (it may have even had bananas in it too - I couldn't get close enough to stare at it and see for sure) that was large enough to feed a whole table full of people, and not just a couple of people. They actually looked slightly embarrassed - and clearly overwhelmed - when this thing arrived in front of them, as though they were thinking, "What are we supposed to do with all of this?" And most of it was wasted from what we could tell!

I remember seeing the elephant that is in Gibson Girl for sale in a Neiman Marcus Christmas catalogue. It was sold as an aquarium. It originally was full of pennies and was located in DL Paris from what rumors say. March 21, 1997 Carnation Cafe, the Blue Ribbon Bakery, and the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor opened.

Starting on Main Street West Side you found as you exited

Cole of California which eventually was removed then the Coke Corner which has various names

Candy Palace then the Penny Arcade

It is in the right side toward the back. I know I saw that for sale in a Neiman Marcus catalog long ago and it was an aquarium. People say it was custom molded but either Neiman Marcus was selling it and it is unique or it was a special item and only a few sold.:confused3
