On any given day, I have no idea what my daughter will eat. She might eat two pieces of pizza in one sitting and then not eat anything else all day. I've had gastric bypass and can tolerate almost any food (except super-fatty and super-sweet) but I eat about 1/3 what a 'normal' person would eat. I do have a card from my surgeon asking restaurants to let me order off the children's menu and to order half-portions without being charged the full-portion price, but I don't know if those are universally accepted.
Would the quick service plan be a viable option for us? I keep looking at the $8.99 per day for a child and think -- dang, that's a good price. If we were to order nuggets and fries for two meals and pay cash, we'd probably blow through that right away, right?
Help.

I think I understand what you're asking- but just to be sure, you're wondering if Disney will allow you to pay a child's price for the dining plan? The answer for that will most definitely be no, as will even being allowed to order from the children's menu- unless you are willing to pay adult prices for it- then possibly they may let you.
I don't see how a note from your doctor is going to help you with the prices and the dining plan.
It's no different than someone who is dieting or just doesn't eat alot- they're not going to make exceptions to a person's age based on how much they will eat. How much you eat will be irrelevant to them.
If I were you, I wouldn't do dining plan at all.
Just order what you'll eat and split when you want. You'll save more money that way.
BUT you are free to order kid's meals.
We sometimes have split kid's meals at CS for lunch!

No, I wasn't asking if I could buy the child's dining plan, but you did answer my question. It would be less expensive for us NOT to get a dining plan.

We've been struggling with the DDP or no DDP as my sister had gastric bypass last August I'm not sure it would benefit us. We'll be five adults for most of the week as I'm not sure when my Dad will be joining us. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get one AP and the TIW card to get the discount since part of our second week will have 8 adults and 1 child.

Would you feel the need to "get your money's worth" if you got the DDP? If so, I would definitely skip it! You don't want to feel obligated to eat 2 full counter service meals if that's not what you normally would (or should) do.
If you plan to do mostly counter service anyway (and it sounds like you do since you mentioned QSDP), I would just pay OOP and get what you want. That way you can order kids meals if you want to and you won't even have to show your doctor's note. Anyone can order kids meals at the counter service. (If you plan to do a table service, you might need to show it.) I often get kids meals at counter service places. Especially in EPCOT. I like to get a kids meal in Mexico and Japan so I can get a taste of more places.
Your DD sounds like mine. Although mine is older. But some days she might eat a dinner roll. But the next day she will have a steak and fruit and dessert!

I agree that a note from your doctor would probably not get consideration for a change in the dining plan...but I have to say that it is much different from someone dieting...it is a medical "condition" and would therefore have federal protection against discrimination (Think about it...someone with a food allergy is treated very differently at Disney than someone with a food preference). So they may very well honor you eating from the kids menu or ordering just an appetizer at a restaurant, etc. I agree that I would just not get the plan and order children's meals at counter service

I too am a gastric bypass patient and we are doing the dining plan. My decision is two fold. We are a family of 5 and will eat most if not all of our TS meals as character dining, so I would be out the expense either way. To OP, I understand your question regarding the card, I have one too and although I have no experience this go round at WDW with it, I am assuming the card is only a request to allow us to order off of children's menus where it is sometimes frowned upon by a restuarant. To my knowledge as long as you are not at a buffett/character meal(one price for everyone) I don't believe that disney restricts adults from ordering off of the childrens menu. Liek I said, we will eat mostly buffet/charater meals so Irealize I am paying more for the experience than the food. As others have stated CS, you should have no problems odering from the child's menu at WDW, BUT children's options are very limited at WDW. I don't know that I would be satisfied with mac n cheese or Chicken nuggets every meal. I prefer the grilled selections which most aren't available in a kids meal. The other variable is we are going during free dining, so actually if I don't eat it I am not losing anything anyway. I believe we still would have chosen the dining plan because of the rest of my family.

We finally decided to do the dining plan for the week before the cruise and skip it for the 2 nights after the cruise. Depending on when my Dad decides to join us, I'll either add him to the reservation or leave him off.
