Well, it was herself's birthday at the beginning of the month, likewise DS, hence we booked a short break at DLRP...they both thought at Hotel Cheyenne, but instead I booked DLH. We go on Saturday.
Anyway, yesterday I emailed Guest Relations explaining that this was a special surprise treat and enquiring as to extras such as flowers in the room, a bottle of wine and so on.
And what did Disney do?
They only 'phoned the ruddy house and spoke to my wife, asking what special extras I wanted booked?!?!
:confused3
Cue my returning home from work to a bit of a grilling and the surprise now anything but!
:sad2:
I've fired off a rather strong email complaining but aint holding my breath.

Some people are just muppets aren't they?:sad2:
However, if my other half did that i'd be absolutely thrilled!!!!
Ok the surprise is gone, but think of the excitement leading up now - you will be in the good books for ever!:cool1:
You may even get some freebies from Disney if you're lucky.
Enjoy.

Specifically, I'd said:
As a special birthday surprise for my wife and 5 year-old son son (birthdays on 4th and 1st April respectively), I have arranged a visit to DLP from 18th-20th April, staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Arrangements have been made in secret – they think we’re going to the Hotel Cheyenne - however I know they’ll enjoy it as it’s our third trip (we’re shareholders).....

It's typical really that they can respond quickly to a request like this but not to a complaint:confused3
Sorry they have spoiled the surprise

What a shame your surprise is spoiled. :sad2:
However, look on the positive side, you must certainly be your wife's no. 1 favourite husband at the moment! :thumbsup2

Well, an update. Today I received a nice note from DLP saying:
We thank you for your e-mail.
We cannot say how deeply sorry we are about the mistake we made by calling you home. Even if, as you said, no malice was intended, we can imagine how dissapointed you are and we apologize for any inconvenient caused.
We know that we cannot fix up the surprise again, however we hope we will compensate somehow our mistake by offering you and your family a little present at your arrival.
Please accept again our sinceres apologies.
Let's see what they come up with!

I hope you get something nice. I love creating surprises for my loved ones and I would have been gutted if this had happened to me. I think what you've done is really lovely and thoughtful. Perhaps you could have another surprise up your sleeve for their birthdays, like a meal at California Grill or the Wild West Show?
Hey, they might upgrade you to Castle Club! Fingers crossed.:thumbsup2

I'm sorry your original suprise was spoilt but I'm intrigued as to what you will find upon your arrival, I hope it's something truly magical and will go a little way to compensate for the surprise they spoilt :goodvibes

I agree that maybe a nice meal booked as a 'surprise' might help too :thumbsup2

Well folks, we got back (very) late last night and I'm pleased to report that Disney came good!
We were given a simply lovely room, 1208, which is in the entrance block but facing back into the park - we could see the train chugging past regularly, watch people streaming into the park, but it wasn't at all noisy and still rather private. A 2 minute walk to reception.
In the room were two lovely bouquets of fresh flowers (which my wife managed to get back on the plane), a half bottle of red wine for herself, and 3 Mickey Mouse cuddly toys (presumably for the kids, although why we got 3 I don't know).
We were also given a free voucher for a birthday cake, which was used on the first night!
I have to say that staying at the Pink Palace was an altogether lovely experience. It's a great hotel - perhaps more of a rather good 4* than the 5* they aspire to - but the realy winner is the location. We could nip in and out of the parks, no traipsing around, plently of character interaction, lovely pool, and so on.
Of course, now we're eating beans on toast for 6 months to pay for it all.......
