I'm seriously thinking about trying to squeeze in a trip around Labor Day. Anyone know whether FD is still available for the cabins?

(I realize, of course, that I could call, and I certainly will as this possible trip unfolds, but I'm hoping someone can give me an off the cuff idea. :goodvibes)

Thanks!

Leslie

Yes, they're still available. We're currently booked 8/21-8/26, but thinking of switching to Labor Day week. I check online almost every day to make sure they're not getting filled up, and there is definitely still availability. Of course, I'm looking at arriving on Sunday, 9/6, so you'd need to check if you want to go for Fri/Sat night.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I just was able to check and it does look like they are still available. It's such a better deal than if we went over Thanksgiving, when we went last year - $500 less just for the cabin and tickets, plus we would get the dining! I'm really hoping to be able to pull this together.

Have a great trip!

I know - you really can't beat that time of year. My kids have a four day weekend in November, and I was thinking of waiting until then, but for some reason that's regular season, and end of August is value season :confused3 Raises the room price $50/night! Also, no guarantee they'll extend free dining (last year they extended it for Disney Visa card holders - which we are:))

I'm really considering Labor Day week....

How do you check the availability of cabins online? We are going down in mid-June and I wouldn't mind taking a look at a site that shows how full not just the Fort, but other Disney resorts are during our trip.

You just go to disneyworld.com, put in the dates of your trip and pick the FW Cabins from the list of resorts. If they're not available, you'll get a message saying that, and it will give you an alternate resort choice.

This doesn't actually show you how full the resorts are, just if there's any availability at all. So you can check all the different resorts for your time frame, and you will find out if they're completely sold out. I know I checked a few weeks ago for Easter break (just curious) and most of the resorts WERE completely sold out. Obviously a very busy time!!!

Glad to see you got another trip for the cabins in the works, I read your TR's yesterday, and really enjoyed them!! I got a cabin for September 15th to the 19th, and am VERY excited, the more I've read about them, the more I'm wanting one for our May trip, it's quick, just 2 nights, but I think it'll be better then 2 rooms at an all star resort!! I hope you can start planning VERY soon!!! :)

I'm so jealous! Would love to take advantage of that great deal and that great time of year. Guess it won't work for us, since we're apparently going to have a baby that week :)

Thanks! I just had to post 'cause I'm at work and they wouldn't understand if I went running up and down the hall screaming that I'm going back to WDW, but I have to tell somebody: I just booked it!:banana: I got FD at the cabins for 9-2 through 9-7. :cool1: I got our flights on SW, too, and they were cheap! Yay!

Thanks for the compliment on the TRs! I do them now for every trip as just a fun way for me to remember all the fun we had, but it's always nice to hear someone else enjoyed them.

Have a great time on both your trips! You'll love FW!

It'll be a surprise :) though with two princesses already it's hard to imagine a pirate. I am loving everyone's TRs and am hoping for a 40th bday trip in Jan. I think the cabins would work really well with an infant.

And thanks for the congrats!

Congratulations!!

I've NEVER stayed onsite, we're semi-sorta local, live about an hour east of the parks, so we always go for the day trips, but with the military deal, I just couldn't pass up 40% off!!!! Hopefully the upgrade will happen or I'll find out something soon, talking with someone I *think* from DU, and says my agent HAS emailed me, but I haven't gotten it, maybe I'll have an email magically appear in my email tonight sometime!! :rolleyes1 Until then, just waiting!! And, congrats on booking, we're there sept 15th to the 19th, we originally had CBR, but my sister wants her own bed, so I figured the cabins were the best deal on that one, so upgraded that one, and then decided to upgrade for May too...to scope out the place. We're only there 2 nights in may tho...but it should still be fun!

Have a great time at the fort! Are you getting a golf cart? They make life much more fun and easy...

I'm not sure if we're gonna get a golf cart or not. Haven't decided if I can work it into the budget or not. Have to work the increase in the package in right now, and make sure we have enough for tips, and alcohol for Dh's birthday dinner at kona. Knowing my husband, he'd want one, but I can see it now, him and my dad in the front the other 3 in the back, and dh taking corners with this thing on 2 wheels!! HOLY CRAP!!! LOL

:rotfl2: Yup, and he wouldn't be the only one hot wheeling it around the Fort. I will say that if your budget will allow it, they are sooooooo worth it. Makes getting around the Fort not just easier, but FUN! Regarding the cost, you may want to check out one of the 3rd party places that will bring carts to FW - they seem to generally be cheaper than renting from FW, depending on how long you need it. I think there is a sticky at the top of the camping page that talks about the different options.

Thanks, we might go ahead and bite the bullet, mostly for my dad, his knees are shot, so it's hard for him to get around, but he's a trooper and plugs along with us!! :) We're only there for 2 nights, so it won't be TOO bad I guess....can we get one when we get there, or do we have to reserve it before hand?

On another note, it's official, I'm a FW junkie now!! 2 cabin trips in the works...I'm excited!!! :cool1:

Depends on when you're going, but if you want to be 100% sure you get one, I'd reserve it ahead asap.

Thanks!! REALLY looking forward to it! Are you gonna to a pre trip report? I got a couple going on over there....just the planning and stuff, I'm over it, ready to GO!! LOL I even started packing stuff I know we won't use in the next 32 days, like beach towels, DS's birthday shirt, my tigger shirt and ears, and the disposable camera I got from Kelloggs. So it's starting, just gotta wait out the time. This week has FLOWN by so hopefully the next few will too! :)

Hey, just had to jump back in here to say I just read your trip report from Nov 08, and loved it! You have so many great pictures - I'm always the mom that gets home and says "Why didn't I take more pictures?"! We're so excited to try the Cabins this year - I think it will be perfect for our family.

One question - we're driving, so we'll have our car to get back and forth to the parks, but plan on taking the boat over to MK. How far is the walk from the cabins to the marina? I don't want to spend the extra $ on a golf cart, since we will have our car, but wondering about that one walk. I know there are buses running, but we'd rather walk if it's manageable.

I'm seriously considering switching our dates now to 9/6-9/11, so if our trips overlap, hope to see you at the Fort!

Depends on which loop you end up in and where you are in the loop, but all the cabin loops are at the opposite end of FW from the marina. Map HERE (http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/fortwilderness.htm).

From an old post by Shan-man None of the cabins are walking distance from the boat dock, unless you're a big walker: the closest is right at a mile and the furthest is just over 1.5 miles.

I don't want to spend the extra $ on a golf cart, since we will have our car

If it helps at all, there's some info on renting off-site for potentially MUCH less than FW charges (depending on # of days) HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=31332309).

Thanks for the info! I may request a cabin closer to the middle of the resort. I actually wouldn't mind a mile (or so) walk - we're big walkers, and it always seems so much easier at WDW - very flat compared to the Pittsburgh area - and the resorts are so pretty!

I'm already stretching the budget to do FW instead of POR, so I don't think I can justify the added expense for the golf cart. I'll keep it in mind, though...

The PP gave you good info about the distance. I'll throw in that I think it's probably too far to walk to the marina, even from the closest loop (2100), at least with kids. This may be more true at the end of the day than at the beginning. But, if you could transport bicycles to the fort, it would be a pretty easy ride. Otherwise, I think you'll usually be taking the internal busses. Not a bad deal at all.

Let me know if you change your dates! It's a lot of fun to meet other Fort fans from the Dis!

Regardless of when you go, have a great trip!

Thanks! I think we will plan to use the internal bus to get back and forth from the marina for the MK boat trip. The other parks, we'll just drive. The pool looks like it's pretty much in the center, so should be able to walk there with no problem.

I'm looking forward to walking the trails - one of my favorite things about Disney vacations is that I get up early and walk around the resort first thing - it's so peaceful and somehow the air even smells different there! Last year my 11-year old had me wake him most mornings to go with me - so we got that time just the two of us. I know he'll love those trails!
