This year, to keep FWGirl happy, we are leaving the Kiwi home and staying in an offsite condo and taking advantage of the free ticket deal for the military from Disney. So we'll be loading up the Mazda and arriving in Orlando on 23 October, leaving 30 October. I am looking forward to hooking up with as many Fort Fiends as possible. Looks like the beer tasting at Epcot is a go!

I don't know...sounds like somebody isn't into virtual gatherings. If we found the kiwi, he would have to meet us. Now we won't even know which condo complex to call looking for him.... ;) :lmao:

You are going to be pleasantly surprised, Jim!! It's a very nice place with a Cracker Barrel right across the street - just a short walk away. I'm trusting you to call me when you get in & I'll show you guys the back way into Disney.
Al's going to be down at the same time - mooching with me, of course!:lmao: Reserve Wednesday the 28th for lobster at the Ale House!! :thumbsup2

Either DD will be taking care of him, or he will be camping out at Camp Bow Wow.

Condo people while better than cabin people are still not campers.
We can make an exception for an old soldier or two.

I'll be in Deb's RV, not a condo - but in September the kids want me to go along with them (and their 5 month old at that time) up to the ADK parks and do a little hiking. I'll bring the beer........ they are making a concession and going car camping with day hikes........

Cabin People are not campers..... next you'll start with all the questions, should we get a golf cart, which cabin loop is best, which is the best cabin, do you get innernet at the cabins? which bus goes to the cabin? How do we get our luggage to the cabins? why do they call them cabins if they are trailers with boards on the outside?

Hey Al - I talked to the ticketing folks at SOG and they said they don't care what color the id card is, as long as it says retired on it, so the ticket deal covers grey area retirees, too.

I'm gonna get mine at Guest Services in DTD because I want to see if they'll sell me another one for me to use in October - I've heard they will but I don't want to buy one at SOG and then find out I can't get it activated.
I'll ask at GS about gray area too.

Only if the women participate. I don't want to be caught sitting around with a bunch of middle age fat guys wearing togas and mickey ears..... Too bad Kelly isn't bringing her man, I'd have someone to hang out with at least not wearing mickey ears.

It's still a possibility that I can talk him into coming. He doesn't like the parks, although he usually enjoys EPCOT. He wants to go marlin fishing and on airboat rides through the everglades and all that kind of stuff. So, we would basically be together, but on separate vacations. :lmao: There's still time.....

When debbie kept talking about the lobster special at the AleHouse I kept thinking, yeah, sure - you know how she exaggerates - well wehen we went there in November and actually got it she was right. What you get for the money is unbelieveable! I've eaten here a few tiems and the food (and beer) is always good, but the lobster is special, that's why they call it the lobster special.

I agree! I love him dearly, but he just doesn't love (or even like) Disney. It would be nice if he would come, but if he decides to stay home I'll still have fun without him, trust me!!

We love Ale House. They are all over Florida and I think there are a total of 4 just in Orlando alone. Their Buffalo Wings & Zingers are da bomb!!
Right now the lobster special is $13.98 for steamed & $14.98 for baked/stuffed with crab & shrimp. 1 1/4 lb Maine lobster. You get a choice of potato or rice & choice of veggie or side salad. Just a little secret...if you go on Thursday, ask if they have any lobster left from Wednesday. They will sell you a dinner for the same price as the Wednesday special - it's just not advertised.
If you're going to the Ale House near FtW, try to get there before 5pm. It fills up quickly!!

We stayed in these condos in 1998. They were brand spankin' new at the time. In fact they hadn't finished the entire complex when we were there that spring break. I think they've changed ownership multiple times since then. My dad had points for 2 units that he had "won". These were some really nice units. They are also fairly close to the main gate. We had no complaints at the time we stayed there.
