I managed to talk hubby into this hol with the lure of halfboard plus and now with restaurants changing looks as though we will be paying more for meals than expected. Just wondering how much service charge will be on top too.

There will be no service charge added on the bill. It is entirely up to you whether or not you tip.
Waiting staff in France do not routinely expect tips, although it is obviously appreciated. I have read that many French people leave just a few Euro, or round the bill up.
I usually tip between 10% and 15% (depending on the rounding up) although if I was unhappy with the service I would reduce that accordingly.

Thank you that clears up another question for me.:)

In France, no tip is necessary, but it is common practice to round to the nearest 5 or 10 EUR. Many restaurant menus in France say "service compris" on the menu (means service included), so they are not expecting a tip anyway. If the service was exceptional 5% could be added.

Staff in the service industry in France have a different wage structure to, for example, the US and they are not reliant on tips to make up the rest of their salary.

At DLP, we always book restaurants to the room bill and there is no need to carry cash. Prices at DLP are very high to cover all costs including staff wages and service.
