Our Plans:

Disney Cruise Line
4 night cruise with a ceremony on Castaway Cay.

Theme- Tropical Christmastime fun

Colors- Pink and Green

Guests-22

About Us-

I currently work as a marketing coordinator, and DF teaches at a local college. We are both from MA, but met in FL, and now live in MN! We have a love for all things Disney. I was even a CM for a short period of time. We’ve been together for not quite five years, and started planning last fall.

There was really no contest when it came to deciding on having a Disney wedding. We did however agonize on what type of wedding to have. We looked at all options possible including DFTW, Swan and Dolphin, Buena Vista Palace and elsewhere. For us an Escape wedding was immediately out due to the guest count. Swan and Dolphin seemed to be a mixed bag. So, we set a date for a Wishes wedding. However, the economy put a kibosh on that. DCL did just feel right, in that we really wanted a casual and intimate ceremony to begin with, and we could invite everyone we wanted. So here we are!

Our families have all been to WDW more than a dozen times. But none of our family or friends has ever been on a Disney cruise (and neither have we!!) So, it will really be a fun time for all. We’re also really excited to have it near Christmas when all of the holiday decorations will be up. I really believe there is an extra bit of “magic”! :santa:

YAY! I'm glad you started a PJ, I love reading about the DCL weddings. I would love to get married there, but one of my biggest priorities was having ALL of my family on my big day, and I knew that wasn't possible on a cruise.

I can't wait to read more!!!!

Ok, it's time for me to fess up... I've been an Ebay madam.. :rotfl: I've purchased several dresses for rock bottom prices. I've been getting A LOT of flack for it too! (Hey, I'm being thrifty!) :)

Well, I think this dress is going to make it to the final cut-

Maggie Sottero "Camden"

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/maggie-sottero-camden.jpg

I don't want any heel-sand misadventures, so I've purchased these sandals-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/31F7WvyucKL__SS500_.jpg

And these for the Palo reception and photos-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/a65e_1.jpg

I haven't figured out how I'm going to work the red into the pink and green scheme, but I'm creative! ;)

Sounds great! I think a cruise sounds like a great idea.... I considered one, but DF wouldn't have it...he's super afraid of shark. Yes, he's convinced they can get him on the boat. :lmao:

Looking forward to reading more!

Oh, that dress is very pretty. Love the sandals for the beach, very cute. I here you on saving money. I got my dress off of Craig's List and saved about 500 dollars! There is nothing wrong with that at all!

I just read your PJ, my oh my we do have lots in common!! DF is also of Scottish decent, but I doubt he'll being going for the kilt. I love offbeat bride as well, and did I mention your swimsuit is fantastic?!

Congrats on DVC!!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Your dress is beautiful. Can't wait to hear more.:goodvibes

Thank you! :)

Sounds good! I love the colors and the theme. What about poinsettias - they come in pink and red - and have green leaves - or hibiscus?

I got my dress on ebay for under $50 rather than pay $400 to David's Bridals. ;)

I actually had my BM's flower wands made by a seller on Etsy, and they came out super cute. I'll post that soon. Great deal on your dress!

My two bridesmaids will be my sisters, ages 25, and 13. I decided I wanted flower wands, rather than traditional bouquets. I ran it by them, and they loved the idea. I also asked if they wanted real or silk flowers. Both wanted silk to have as a keepsake. I did a google image search looking for inspiration and came across a seller on Etsy who does beautiful work.

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5737535

BelovedChild was too sweet to work with. She was also more reasonable in price than Disney.

Here are our wands-

Speaking of bridesmaids, I also ordered headbands from Ebay. I have my wedding pair, and two pairs I'm calling "bridesmaid princess" headbands-

I think they'll be great to walk around the ship with. :)

Love your dress and the flower wands are so beautiful! What dress will the gilrs be wearing? DD is going to have a flower wand too, but i think i'm just going to go with the $25 one from Disney Floral. easier that way.

YAY for DCL brides! My friend's wearing that exact same dress for her wedding next year and it's gorgeous!! And I agree with an above poster - it'll look great with all the Christmas decorations.

Hmmm...you got me thinking that I want heels for the Palo part! Good excuse to shop. ;-)

I know I think I'm right between you and CinderelliT! We'll have to have some sort of bridal baton to pass between us!!! :lmao:

I'm letting the sis's pick out their own dresses. My only stipulation is that they wear the same color, and from the same manufacturer. I think it will be some time before the dresses are picked, as my (25yr old) sis is 6 months preggers!

Yay for another DCL bride!!!:dance3:
Your ideas are great so far! And I am a huge Ebayer too. I live out in the sticks, plus I love being thrifty.

Those flower wands are super cute. They look better than the one I made for my DD. Hmmm...I might have to get another one. LOL!:rotfl: The curse of the DIS.

I love the dress. I hope you get it soon. And pink and red go great together!

Thanks!!! As I said before, I think your VR is on the sailing right before mine! We'll have to high-five each other in the parking lot! :rotfl:

So I wasn't thrilled with the idea of rose petals possibily blowing away, and read one DIS Bride's sticky situation with bubbles, so I started to look at alternatives. I came across "ribbon sticks". Guests wave them as the happy couple goes by. Perfect! (I just hope we don't get wacked by one!)

I found a seller on Etsy who makes them. Now, I don't have the greatest pictures, because the ribbon stick I pulled out of the box has instantly become my cat's favorite toy. :rotfl:

You can see the 10 second progression-

(Igore the bite marks!) He bolted from a sound sleep behind the couch, at the mear sound of me moving his beloved toy! :)

Here's some photos from the seller's store-

I love Disney Couture. Actually in some of the rooms on the ships there's framed artwork that's the notes for "A dream is a wish your heart makes" with the words printed on it. It was in our room our our "engagement" cruise.

I like the ribbon wand idea. They look like so much fun and add a lot of color.

I really want rose petals on the aisle, but I fear that it will be a huge waste of money. I won't have anyone with me to throw them, so the aisle it will be for now.

I have seen some of the disney couture jewelry on ebay for pretty cheap. When it first came out, there were a lot of sales at Macy's and Dillard's. Just keep your eyes open, and I'm sure that you'll be able to get a deal.

I've been trying to come up with some creative ideas for the Palo cake and champagne reception. DF and I are not really into dancing, or anything traditional. I'm figuring the the cake/mingling will take a half hour to 45 minutes. Then what?? I definitely want to infuse some fun. My thought so far has been to break everyone willing into teams and give them a list of photo assignments each with a point value and time limit. The team with the most points, wins prizes. Here are some ideas I came up with, and some downloaded from the net;

Photo Scavenger Hunt-
Someone really enjoying a piece of cake
Muscle Beach Poses
Imitate the Beatles crossing a crosswalk
Scene from a Disney movie (explaining it afterward is half the fun!)
"I can't believe we all fit in here!"
The most Disney characters and all of your teammates in one photo
Mimic a statue -- fountains also work well
An unusual perspective of all your teammates
"Honey, I Shrunk the Bride and Groom"
A human sculpture, or "performance art"
Licking something you shouldn't....

Let me know if you guys have any other photo ideas, or something fun we can all do together!

Thanks!

For the Palo reception you really only have enough time for the cake, toast, and 2 or 3 dances then your time is up. We were only in there 60-90 minutes tops! It was fine though because we were heading to the beach!

Hmm.. We're trying to avoid the dancing thing all together. My biggest fear is that we'll all be looking at each other blankly, then, they'll try to make us dance!!! :rotfl2:

Ooh, I like the thought pattern here! I suggested maybe trying to get a Wii, but DF thinks that might cost a good chunk of change. I wonder if there are any activities going on that we could all do togther.. Hmm.. More research..

Hahahaha! I wanna play. Maybe I could do this on my trip and then post the pics up here on the DIS!:rotfl:We'll see how they compare to yours.

I hate dancing. I want to do the 1 slow dance with my DH, and that is it. That is one of the reasons that we are having our at home party in a park.

I'm not exactly the traditional bride. I really love the Maggie Sottero, but kept flirting with idea of a prom or "red carpet" dress instead, not necessarily white. Though, I think certain family members might have a heart attack if I did! :rotfl:

Can everyone in your group do an excursion after? Maybe like the glass bottom boat or something? If you don't have old or young people maybe the jet skis?

Please let me know what you think of I am trying so hard to come up with something fun for us to do too.

I love the scavenger hunt idea!! I used to do this in college all the time. We really made every one look stupid like sign a song on a street corner, find a "celebrity" (in other words find someone random on the street that looks like a celebrity) and take a picture, my favorites are always when you have to involve random people walking down the street.

I'm figuring the photo hunt would be the most cost-effective. The pictures will be priceless too! (Like Grandma smushing a piece of cake on someone!) ;) That and it's a really sneaky way of getting everyone's wedding photos off of their cameras!!! :rotfl2: I think I'll have my sister bring her laptop, then burn all of the photos to a CD for anyone who wants them. Or, alternatively post them to photobucket or the like after the cruise.

The only other idea for a shore excursion I had was the stingray adventure. My thoughts were that the largest cross-section of our guests might enjoy it. But, I don't know if people might prefer to do their own thing after the Palo reception. I kinda want to keep things as open-ended as possible, because it is their vacation as well, and the most important thing for me is that everyone is relaxed and enjoys themselves.

Overall, after the reception, I think the way we'll go is say something like "Shannon and Rich will be at the far end of the family beach, you are welcome to join them if you would like". That way no one feels obligated to do exactly what we are.

If it could be done (I don't know, and it would likely cost a pretty penny) might be to take everyone to Studio Sea and do an impromptu game show on stage. Maybe like "How well do you know the bride & groom", or Disney trivia.

Also, I believe I read that Castaway Cay has a treasure hunt already put together. The prize at the end is a coin or something like that! Maybe you could up the stakes, like the first team/person to complete gets a prize, or a spa appointment. :thumbsup2

Just found your PJ and love the scavenger hunt idea! I think it's perfect! It's fun, non-traditional, AND economical! We have a lot in common as well... I also currently live in Minneapolis and we are having a tropical theme wedding with our main colors being pink and green(we are having an escape at sunset pointe though)! Can't wait to follow along with your plans (and probably steal some of your ideas:lmao:). I love the ribbon wands and your dress is really pretty- where did you get it at?

So here is my version of the events as they happened...

Day 1-

Arrive at MSP, eat a quick sandwich and meet up with some of my coworkers. Yes, this is a business trip, but believe me there's no way I'm going to NYC without having a good time!!

The CEO of our company chats us up, and oh so casually mentions he has "a guy" and that we'll all be going to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees/Twins play. HOLD THE PRESSES!! Wait, What?? This has suddenly made up for so much in the workplace! Then, the sinking feeling, um Shannon you are from Massachusetts... If there were a place in this world that would be the most unfriendliest for people from Massachusetts, I do believe Yankee Stadium would be the place! Let's all hope and pray I make it through this bit alive!

Well the flight to JFK was uneventful. You can see Manhattan (or at least in my imaginary world) if you look really, really closely-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/manny.jpg

We all pile into a taxi and head to the Big Apple. Now our taxi driver is flying like a bat out of hell (or Queens). We get to the city and another taxi driver cuts him off, but cannot complete the cutting off due to a red light. Both windows are down, and our taxi driver starts schooling the other said taxi driver about the rules of the road. It's just hilarious watching them go back and forth. "You are two inches from my cab, how do you think you got two inches from my cab!"

Anyways, we checked into the Hilton Garden Inn and find a hole-in-the-wall Italian place that was very yummy, and had baked clams. It was the closest thing to one of my most favorite foods in the world, stuffed quahog. I can't even think about getting this in Minnesota, so this was a close enough cousin! (Sorry I don't have any food porn :sad2:)

But, here's a pic of stuffed quahog from the net-

And the view from our room-

Day 2-

Day 2 started pretty early. It was time for that thing called work, and the start of the National Stationery Show. I got to meet a lot of people I work with on a daily basis, but rarely see which was nice.

After work commenced, a coworker of mine and I decided it would be a great thing to see the sites! (and have a few drinks along the way..)

We started at a great French restaurant called Pigalle. I highly recommend the Lemoncello! It was a fantastic little concoction!

After that we wandered about Times Square.

Insert ubiquitous picture here-
http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/timessq.jpg

Found Rockefeller Center-
http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/rock.jpg
Last year we did "Top of the Rock". That is an experience I will not do again! I'm not overly afraid of heights, but this one really did it in for me! I think it was the swaying of the building that sent me screaming for mommy!! :rotfl2:

Flags from RC-

Who's that sitting in Matt Lauer's chair??

After this we holed up in an Irish Bar until the very wee hours..

Day 3

Day 3 happens to be Yankees/Twins day!!

Again, it was the start to a very early morning. Lots of Visine! Work, was well work. As soon as the show closed for the day we made a mad dash to the subway and the new Yankee Stadium!

All of this was very exciting, but also a bit odd. My family happens to be Boston sports nuts, and entering the home of A-Rod and Mr. Jeter just seemed very wrong deep down inside. My co-worker threatened that if I blew my cover as a Boston fan, she would shank me herself! :rotfl2:

But, back to the story at hand! We arrive at the new Yankee Stadium just as the first pitches are being thrown. We head up to the will-call line, to grab our tickets ...and well there aren't any.... :confused3. Lots of texting and phone calls later, we're told to go to the VIP line (woo hoo we are VIPS!!) Not so much there either... More texting and phone calls ensued..

Suddenly we are whisked off to the Yankee offices, yes I said Yankee offices! Given tickets by a very nice lady in a suit, and go up a private elevator to our seats!!!! Whooo!! We had regular seats, but they were still pretty darn good!!! Go my company!!

Here's some pics-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/ballfield.jpg

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/yankee.jpg

In the end the Twins lost  But it was a really good time overall!

Day 4-

Day 4 was mostly uneventful. I worked, and we caught a flight home. Nothing too big to report.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any of my own photos of the show. :sad2: Here's my best recreation from the web-

There was some Disney stationery I hadn't seen before by InScribe. Most of it may be too casual for wedding invites, but still very cute!

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/1141vbig.gif

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/1162hbig.gif

I also saw this Kirstie Kelly number-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/j2909.jpg

It looked really great in person!

The one thing I really wished I had a photo of were these candy cupcakes that could be used as favors. I tried googling it but came up empty. They were basically a sweet tart type candy in different shapes melded together to form a cupcake. There was a gumdrop at the top and a cupcake foil, and the whole thing was shrink wrapped. Super cute!

Oh! I almost forgot! At the show I met up with an old boss of mine, who I would go so far as to say she was probably the best boss I've ever had! She's heading up a brand new company called Green Stationery, Inc. It has a really great modern style, with just a touch of cuteness! It's also 100% post consumer content.

The link isn't working yet, but when it does here is the site- Green Stationery (http://www.greenstationeryinc.com/)

Well, I've come to the conclusion that the Maggie Sottero "Camden" just isn't going to work. It needs too many alterations. That and I pulled it out of my closet to find that our cat tried to scale it at some point! :scared1:

So I'm back at square one, sort of..

I have a backup dress that would work fine. (I just need to loose about 5lbs, because right now breathing is optional! :rotfl:) I'm just afraid it might be too "floofy" for the cruise. Here it is-

Casablanca 1811 (http://www.casablancabridal.com/collections/view/6/108)

I originally bought it when we were doing the Wishes wedding (for a whole $35 mind you!) My thought pattern at this point might be to wear this dress for the MK photoshoot, and have another simpler dress for the cruise. If we decide to cut the MK photoshoot I think we'll have some photos taken by a good photog friend around the resorts.

So, with that being said I went on a mission to Off Saks Fifth earlier this week armed with a 40% off coupon! And found nothing. :confused3 So, being a whole block away from Macy's Bridal, and scene of PolynesianBride's awesome dress find I decided to stop by. Now this is my second trip to Macy's. The first time I did not have an appt., and was met by an extraordinarily snooty sales clerk when I asked to see their sample dresses. I said "whatever" and walked the heck out of there.

This time (still without an appt) I was met an extremely nice sales clerk, of which she suggested an upscale bridesmaid dress in white. Perfecto! So I now have a real appt during their Waters trunk show. We'll see what happens!

We're less than 6 months to go! Whoo Hoo!

Well, I've been a busy bee in the last few days. Up first the dress!

I had my appt at Macy's. I met with the Watters rep and she worked some magic on one of the dresses, and frankly made it hands down look the best on my body than any of the other dresses I've tried on! My flaws were hidden, the girls enhanced, it fit my height etc. etc.!

I did however forget to have the consultant take my pic, which I'm completely regretting now :sad2:

Without further ado, I chose the Adelia-style gown! (with some photoshopping)
http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/watters.jpg

The back is a V-Neck, and comes down plainly to the floor. We talked about maybe doing a small sweep train. I think I'll also try to put a broach or something of that nature on the hip. I'm beyond elated to exactly how well the dress fit. :goodvibes

I'm also going to keep the Casablanca gown and use it for our photos back at WDW.

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/big.jpg

After finding the dress, I decided to take a peek at shoes. (Always a bad idea! :rotfl:) I wanted a wedge that wouldn't sink in the sand, and still be fabulous! I saw some ok stuff, and then like a moth to a flame I was drawn to this pair in pink-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/shoe2.jpg

I turn it over and about have a heart attack! :scared1: They're Coach! The sales girl comes over and asks if I need any help, and I gulp "I'd like to try these on in an 8.5". I try them on, and perfection! They fit like a glove, and completely comfortable!

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/shoes.jpg

So here is my inner dialog; "Shannon just give the girl your credit card, insert hand into purse and pull out credit card!" "No, but wait can't too expensive!" "Shannon, just do it already!" and regrettably (or not!) I purchased the most expensive pair of shoes I own! :cool1:

The hotels have all been booked for our stay at WDW!

Here's the itinerary so far-

Day 1-
After work hop on a flight to MCO, rent a car and drive our butts to Coronado Springs!

Day 2-
Eat breakfast and drive to Tampa to see DF's Grandmother who won't be able to make the cruise.

Drive back that evening, and maybe hit up a park

Day 3-
Eat breakfast, take a quick swim, and drive to Port Canaveral! A good chunk of my fam actually lives in the Port Canaveral area, so I'm pretty sure my Dad's house will become grand central! We'll probably have a cookout or something of that nature which will be nice. :goodvibes

Days 4-7 We're cruising!!

Day 8-
The Grand Floridian

Day 9-
Animal Kingdom Lodge

Day 10-

Well, it's ETA 6 months!! :cool1:

Here are the things I have left to do-

1. Create welcome packets for our guests
2. Get some garb for the cruise and honeymoon
3. Finish the photo scavenger hunt
4. Learn how to do my makeup! Makeup was a skill I never completely learned how to do properly, and the fact that there may not be someone on the ship to do it for me, scares me to death! I've been doing some research, and so far Smashbox has some great videos online and on DVD's, so I may go that route.
5. Create hair flower fascinator. I picked up some supplies from Michael's, and the plan is to make one headband, and one clip/barrette and see which one works the best.
http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/010.jpg
6. Pick out a hairstyle that works
7. Find a great favor for the guests
8. Make a fish extender! My thoughts so far have been a Christmas stocking with my new family name on it!
9. Get on a healthier regime
10. Find a pet-sitter

I finished my hair flower/fascinator-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/024.jpg

Both the headband and barrette were pretty easy to make. It took about an hour to finish both. It was just a little superglue and some hot glue and voila!

At this point I like the barrette better. What I'm going to do is ask for a fresh flower for my hair on the cruise, and if it doesn't work have the barrette on hand as a backup. For the WDW photos I'll probably use the barrette.

Your engagement photo is really cute!!

And I love your fascinator- I can't believe you made it! We have some things in common- I am doing my own hair/makeup for our VR- and I've found googling different styles I've found a ton of great tutorials- it's helped a lot so far!! I'd like to try fake eyelashes, but so far I'm too chicken to try it, LOL!!

Thank you!! The facinator was really easy to make. What helped was that the feathers were already pre-attached to a piece of felt. I just cut up the felt, added some sparkle and glued it down. I added a couple of extra small whimsy feathers and glued it to the felt. With the flowers I removed all of the leaves, and pulled out what was remaining of the stem. I then hot glued the flower over the felt, and done!

Ahh, the hair and makeup is scary!! :lmao: I did buy a smashbox master class kit and a set of brushes. It was helpful, but I still need foundation. The DVD it comes with is very similar to the tutorials on Smashbox.com (http://www.smashbox.com/insider-secret-videos;jsessionid=0a0101431f4336157aca7c594daba66d 859e37736485.e3eTax4KaN0Le34Pa38Ta38Pb3n0).

My sister has offered her help with the makeup too, which is awesome! She works for a video production company, and has started doing some makeup for guests. I'm waay too chicken for the fake eyelashes too! I think part of my problem is that I'm blind as a bat, and god knows where those eyelashes would wind up!! :rotfl:

The hair I'm still undecided on. I like some of the chignon styles I'm seeing online. But, having my hair down might be better for me. So, that will be determined!

Let me start from the beginning.. The year was 2005, and DF and I were living in S. FL. Hurricane Wilma effectively dropped a roof on my car.. :rolleyes1 Go fig! So after what seemed like forever fighting with the insurance company, I desperately needed a new car. A friend of a friend's cousin (yes!) had a beat up Mustang that she needed to sell quickly. So, a deal was struck! The plan was to fix this beater up, and sell for a profit. Well life got in the way of this plan. Soon after we moved to MN. Now, Mustangs and Minnesota Winters are bitter enemies, I learned this very quickly! It wasn't a huge deal because days it snowed or got icy I would take the bus to work. However, this past year my position was moved to about a half hour away, where there is no bus line! :scared1: Needless to say, after the last winter there was no doubt the 'Stang (as we affectionately call it) had to go! We didn't plan on getting a new car until this fall, but there was another plan at work. The 'Stang broke down on the side of the road last week, with repairs well beyond its worth.

Soo.... Yesterday I purchased my first ever new car, a 2009 Hyundai Sonata! Whoo Hoo! :cool1:

This will undoubtedly have an effect on the wedding budget, but for right now I'm thrilled to be driving a new car!

So I'm back from Orlando! It was just a brief visit. We were on baby watch, so my wedding planning fell through. But still a good time! :goodvibes

Shuttle launch!

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/shuttle2.jpg

One of my favorite pastimes is jet skiing, and I went on one of the best adventures ever!! I went through a nature preserve, and it was just gorgeous. There were so many birds, plants, and possibly even some manatees! No worries, all was seen at an idle. After that, I hit the open water! Guess what I saw.... The Disney Wonder!!! I totally buzzed it too! Well, really as much as one can buzz The Wonder in the Banana River without going into the Manatee zone!! :rotfl:

Since I don't have a waterproof camera, and the thought of taking my iPhone out of its case on a jet ski in the middle of a river was just scary, I have no pictures. So, you will have to make due with this one I found on the web-

http://www.cruisecritic.com/images/news/disneymagicnews.jpg

Thank you it was certainly a good time, and it was great to see my family!

We were originally going to do the BM's dresses in watermelon, but this jr. bridesmaid's dress does not come in that color. So, we may change to apple, or go with a different style all together. Since my sis's will be wearing the dresses and have to feel compfortable in them, I'd like them to make the final determination. My only concern is the pick-ups on these dresses may be more princessy than mine! :rotfl2:

I was at the Mall of America the other day with my lil sis, and saw the coolest idea for a wedding favor.. Legos! You could have a brick customized with your name and date, and then build little planes, cars or something to do with your theme! Another thought is to provide instructions to your guests to build something that totally you!

Alright, I'm a complete dork! But, if you've gotten this far in my PJ, you already know that! :rotfl:

The cost was about $3 per brick, and available at The Lego Imagination Center.

Here's a pick-

Okay, as far as a group dinner, I have not been to Disney in about 10 years (I know I know), but I would vote for Chef Mickey's it would just seem like an exciting start to the event. Very Disney if you know what I mea. Unless you don't want to bombard everyone with Disney right away. But I think that would be my choice.

First, I'm going to show the invites we wanted, and came oh so close to getting-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/il_430xN_84473728.jpg

They are made by a seller on Etsy, and frankly they were the best print quality, and quality in general that we've seen! For what the invitations are they are very reasonable in cost. Unfortunately we've had to cut back, and I'm sorry to say we were not able to have these as our invitations.

I decided that making the invitations was the most cost effective route. Here was the original inspiration-

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/WC01080.jpg

It's a Mara-Mi design. We wanted something a little closer to our colors. I spent about an hour looking at different papers at Archiver's (scrapbooking store here in the mid-west). It took a bit to figure out what exactly would look good together and in the right color range.

I decided upon Bazzill Basics Celtic Green (http://store.scrapbook.com/bb-t5-5139.html)(with polka dot pattern)

And Hambly Screen Prints (http://www.qbaroo.com/HamblyScreenPrints/largeImage.cfm?product=1191&categoryoid=2&productoid=200)in Grandma's Wallpaper

So without further ado, here's our invitations!

I'll totally post instructions later on!

Thanks! I'm really disapointed, but at the same time glad I saved a buck or two, more for the honeymoon!! :cool1:

You'll notice in the coming weeks, I'm going to get craftier and craftier to save!

Alright for anyone who is interested here is how the invitations were made

Recipe-
Makes 50 invitations

15 yards of 1/2" ribbon
(we used May Arts $.39/yard)

1 package of bright white index cover stock 8.5" x 11"
(Office Max $13.99)

8 sheets 12" x 12" vellum, or printed acetate
(Hambly Screen Prints $3/sheet)

17 sheets 12" x 12" fine paper stock
(Bassill Basics $.69/each)

1 box letter A10 white envelopes
(Office Max $3.99)

2 rolls double stick tape
(Office Max $5.49)

50 response sized envelopes
(already owned)

Large Mickey Punch
(already owned)

Straight edge paper cutter
(already owned)

Total Cost $65.05 plus tax and postage

Get Started

Lay out a 3.5" x 8.75" document with room at top for vellum band, and bottom for mickey punch. We used Adobe Illustrator, however Word or any other processing program will work.

Print on white index paper. We used crop marks to help in cutting.

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/inviteprinty.jpg

Cut out using a straight edge cutter. Then, use large Mickey punch at bottom

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/invitepunchs.jpg

Cut fine or colored cardstock into 4" x 9.25" pieces

Use double stick tape to adhere cut white index paper to your fine cardstock

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/invitetapess.jpg

Cut vellum/printed acetate into 2" x 9" strips

Wrap vellum/printed acetate around cardstock

Fold edges with your fingers, then use the handle of a pair of scissors or backside of a butter knife to flatten the crease of the fold

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/invitepunchy.jpg

Use a small piece of double stick tape to hold together

Cut ribbon into roughly 14" lengths

Tie in a single knot around vellum

You may use two very small pieces of double stick tape on front of card under vellum, and on the other side under ribbon to hold both in place

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/invite.jpg

Layout response cards in a new document on the computer. Each card should be 4 7/8" x 3 3/8". We initially used cardstock precut to this size. They kept jamming in our printer. I would suggest using the index paper and cutting out.

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/responsecard4.jpg

Print or label response envelopes

Place response card and envelope on the back of the invitation under vellum

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/inviteresponsecard.jpg

Print or label A10 envelopes

Add postage and Voila! :cool1:

The invitations turned out really great! You did an awesome job. I know what you mean, I'm going to be making our programs, place cards and stuff like that. We really loved Shelley from Impression's invitations, so that is what we're going with now, but the thought of saving that much money is very appealing.

I feel like I fell in a black hole b/c I am so behind on everyone's PJ's!

I love your dresses! I can't wait to see you in them. We are both getting so close! I have yet to schedule a fitting. I'll probably do my first one in a couple of weeks.

Your STD's, hair accessaries, and invites are awesome! You'll have to go into business. Seriously, I may put you to work.:rotfl:

I didn't know that you could choose the dock as a location!!!! Did that cost extra? It was not in my planning kit. It sounds fabulous!

Thanks! Saving money is the mantra of the day! (At least mine!)

I'm kinda thinking of not doing programs.. Is that odd? There's about 25 of us, and it's really our parents, brothers and sisters and grandparents. Hmm..

Oh! I forgot to add.. No, we did not have to pay extra for the pier at Castaway Cay. It was an option on the first page of our planning kit, I do have the old version Cathy had sent.

From my conversations with Brie it is the option for Castaway Cay due to construction. I tried to Google image search some past weddings, and I'm actually pretty ok with the location, I might even prefer it.

Well, here are a couple of the great finds--

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/stuffs.jpg

The thank you cards actually fit into envelopes I already own. The pockets would be perfect if I choose to do programs. I could print on the index stock previously purchased, and tie a white ribbon around the base. And well, I found a spool of about 100 yards of white satin ribbon! :cool1:

We were pretty concerned about some of family members not being able to spend our day with us due to some financial constraints. We started to look at all options to accommodate them, including relocating the wedding. We came up with backup plans A. have an Escape ceremony the morning before the cruise departs, and B. Compass Point in Nassau. I'm happy to say that we will not have to use either plan, but it is good to have in our back pocket.

I came across Compass Point in Nassau and fell in love! Um, I'm thinking 10 year renewal! :rotfl:

So if there are any future brides out there looking for something different, or say the Castaway Cay site is booked, check this out-

Well to begin, we've been together for 5 years, and ultimately came to the decision to get married. No big proposal or anything like that, of which I am perfectly ok with! I haven't had an engagement ring, as jewelry is not so much my thing. I would have rather spent the money on a great resort, dinner, etc.

I've been searching for a band/ring/set, and haven't been exactly thrilled with the choices. Particularly since I knew I did not want a diamond center stone. I came across this one, and really loved it! So here we are!!:banana::banana:

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/RGN.jpg

The center stone is peridot. I'm going to try and not wear it for the next couple of months, and use it as my "wedding band". I just can't wait for it to come in the mail!!!! :woohoo:

We created our welcome bags!! :) I still haven't figured out exactly what to put in them yet.... But we have them!!! :rotfl:

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/bag.jpg

We took a standard canvas bag and used an iron on transfer

pinkcow
10-04-2009, 04:15 PM
Well they one and only thing we have to put in the bags are magnets. I'll put in an envelope each with a Shannon and Rich logo and Mickey heads.

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/magnet.jpg

The Mickey heads were created because our printer kept spilling ink all over the place. I don't think it took the thickness of the magnet paper very well. So, with the unusable portions I painted india ink over the top to cover the inkjet. Then mixed some glitter with gloss medium and let it dry overnight. After that we used the large Mickey punch to cut out.

The ring is beautiful. I heard you can get little metal pieces into the band, think small nubs, this way your ring will fit better but if your finger swells (like in the summer when it's hot, etc), the ring will still fit comfortably. And if you don't need or want them anymore, they can always file them down.

The tote bags are so cute! Love the programs and magnets too, great job!

Here's what I've been up to.. I spoke with Brie on Friday, and she said there was an issue with a crane at Castaway that may move the ceremony location. She said they would make a call two weeks prior to sailing. Here's hoping the Head's Up Pier will be available!! :flower3:

I'm also trying to figure out who exactly will be walking me down the aisle. Both my Dad and Stepdad will be in attendance. Regardless of who I choose, someone will feel as though their toes had been stepped on. I really want to make this as stress-free as possible. I had also considered asking my Grandfather, but he will not be able to make it due to some health issues. I'm thinking maybe both my Mom and Dad, but that has yet to be determined.

I ordered some foundation garments from Ebay, for about 1/2 the cost of VS or David's. As soon as they come in, I'll make an appt. for fittings!

Finally is the issue of my hair. I was thinking maybe a blowout with a rough bun. But, I'm still trying to figure out what would look best on me. Maybe I'll try to run through some options with a local stylist that can be duplicated on the ship. :wizard:

I ordered some foundation garments from Ebay, for about 1/2 the cost of VS or David's. As soon as they come in, I'll make an appt. for fittings!

Woo-hoo! The "implements of reduction" . . . (as my mom calls them)

Finally is the issue of my hair. I was thinking maybe a blowout with a rough bun. But, I'm still trying to figure out what would look best on me. Maybe I'll try to run through some options with a local stylist that can be duplicated on the ship. :wizard:

I'd love to see photos from your run-through if you take them.

50 DAYS TO GO!!!!

I hope you have a GREAT week!

It's so close now i can feel the sand in my toes!!:banana::banana:

Boo for the crane! I'm so glad i already switched to Deck 7 as i would be freaking out right now not knowing what was going on! I hope Heads Up bar is available if that's what you want! :bride:

Would it be awkard to have both dad and step-dad walk you down? Maybe you just walk yourself down instead of having to choose between the 2 of them? Hope you figure it out!

Ah the foundation garments! I'm on my 2nd choice and i think it's actually going to work....the 1st one smushed everything FLAT! Not what i wanted. :rotfl: I pick my dress up next friday! Can't wait!!

Tanning - went for my 1st session last thursday...yup...red faced already. sucks being so pale and fair! oh well....1 down 9 more sessions to go!

I need to figure out exactly what i want for my hair too! Are you having it done? I'm doing my Epcot shoot before we sail and Beaute Special is going to do it for that so i'm hoping i can get the ship to replicate her do! Makeup is my next issue....i suck at it!

Brie told me last week we should start getting confirmations in the next 2 weeks!!:banana:

:rotfl2: "Implements of reduction"!! I'm going to call them "Implements of Mass Reduction" or IMR for short from now on!! :rotfl:

It is a bit lame about the crane. It's one of those things that you just have absolutely no control over. One half of me wants to go Bridezilla, and the other half just wants to go with the flow. :confused3 But fingers crossed!

Have a great week as well!!

I'm day dreaming at work already!! Can't wait!

With my Dad and Stepdad I would kinda imagine the trip from the boat to ceremony to be something like this, Me- So... the weather is really nice today. Them- Yup, uh huh. Crickets chirping, dogs barking, and the wind blowing... :rotfl:

Smushed flat is no good!! :lmao: That's so cool you get to pick up your dress!

So, I had my first tanning session this evening. I went to a place I had never been (armed with a coupon in hand!) and went through the whole bit with the girl at the front desk. She asks for my DOB. Fine, no problem. Then she goes "Oh wow you're 30.." "You should really try our wrinkle-reducing lotions"

Ok, in my head I'm screaming, You've clearly failed math class, because I don't turn 30 for another 8 months!!! You blankety blank blank blank!!! Then as she is showing me around, she says again, "Wow 30..." I just grit my teeth and smiled. Evil High-Schooler!! :rotfl2:

I am going to have my hair done by the salon on the ship, thank gawd for that! Yeah, makeup... I will completly agree I suck at it too! I tried to do a run-through yesterday, and it was B-A-D bad! I tried the "smoky eye" look. It turned out to be the "black eye" look! :lmao: My sister will likely do it for me on the ship, which is good, because I cannot be trusted!!

The marrige license people already got in contact with us!! It's going to be no time!

Ohh I love them! That Mickey compass is adorable!!!

Thank you! My honey actually designed it!

Wow so close! Everything looks great!!

Thanks!! :goodvibes

So not much on the wedding front. I go to my first fitting tomorrow! :cool1:

I've been working with balloons currently at my job. So, today my boss asked me to come up with some designs using particular formats for an upcoming trade show. What did I come up with might you ask? Obvi!!

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/mickeyballoon.jpg

Main Street balloons!!!

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/pinkcowy/mickeyballoon2.jpg

Well, it was vetoed pretty quickly, but made me happy!!

If anyone is interested in how to create this let me know. It took a bit of patience and a good supply of helium.

Cute balloons! Funny enough, I had a similar experience at work today. We were meeting about our big leadership conference in February and, at some point, it was suggested that we bring in a speaker from the Disney Institute. I told them that if we do then I HAVE to make something fun with my Mickey hole punch. Unfortunately, though, THIS conference will have 300 attendees. A LOT more than my 30 guest wedding!

We quickly moved along to other ideas . . . :rotfl:

I was going to say something about the tanning girl, but the DIS **** me out!!! :rotfl:

I haven't heard from Brie in regards to the confirmations or times for ceremony. I did hear something back from her today on something else. We also get our marriage license in the mail today! :cool1:

Alright, to create the double bubble effect, this is what you will need-

(Ask for all at your local party store)

A helium regulator with a latex valve. In other words, one without an automatic shut off for foil/mylar balloons.

Lot's O Helium!

24" Clear Deco Bubble Balloon

15" Mickey Head Latex Balloon

A super long coffee stirer, or very thin stick

Watch this video for instruction-

http://www.qualatex.com/qualatexbubbles/decobubblelow_vid.htm

When in doubt you could also ask your local party store to do this for you, some may or may not be willing. There are also decorators who do this for a living. You can find a CBA (Certified Balloon Artist) through this link-

http://www.qualatex.com/balloons/findapro.php

HTH! :goodvibes

Exactly one month from today our trip will begin!!

Over the weekend I tied up all the loose ends I could. I've even started shipping boxes! :cool1: Peridot ring 2.0 arrived yesterday too! (It looks identical just a smaller size!)

Here's my to do-

Get hair highlighted and cut
Keep tanning
Finish with dress fitting appointments
Start packing
Ship remaining boxes
Oh yeah, figure out the walking down the asile thing.. Nothing like procrastinating!
Order park tickets
Get confirmations from Brie

Hmm.. Anything else I'm forgetting?

Yay!!!

I don't have any confirmations yet... No word on Castaway either. That could hold up my paperwork, as they are not making the call until around the 20th or so. :confused3 I would guess that since Tanya has Imran, we will too. I can't wait to hear how it went with BELLE fairly shortly!

Updates!

We got our marriage license in the mail! That needs to be notarized, and off we go! All boxes thus far are shipped! Final fitting for dress #1 on the 18th! I'm going to start packing this weekend, 'cause I'm terrified I'm going to forget something! :rotfl:

We had a date night on Wednesday for our official 5th anniversary! :woohoo: We saw Disney's "A Christmas Carol" in IMAX 3D :3dglasses. Our rating of it is not so good. Both of us were having a hard time getting over the technical animation, modeling and textures. I kind of was expecting more of a Jim Carrey comic touch, and not so much. We walked out of there and agreed 100% we liked the Muppet's Christmas Carol so much better! But, we're also going to see "A Christmas Carol" live on stage in a week and a half!

Both pics come from 1st dress fittings, I have a really odd look in both, so beware! :lmao:

Dress #1 Waters-

Dress #2 Casablanca-

The dress is draped a little wierd in the pic here, but oh well. For the back here's the website link-

I had Dress #1 altered at Macy's which was quite frankly on the pricy side. Dress #2 was done at NE Tailors in Mpls. The guy was super sweet, quite reasonable, and has some great reviews.

Not too much going on, just packing and coordinating with family on some of the finer details. Also trying to get caught up enough with work, so putting in extra hours, etc. I had my final fitting for dress #1. They are shipping it direct to FL, which is great! Dress #2 should be ready on Saturday. Sometime this weekend I need to get my hair done. We're so getting there! :santa:

Well ladies I do believe this might be my last post before we leave!! It does seem a bit surreal! Our mountain of bags are packed, I had my hair cut and colored, eyebrows threaded, and will try to get one more tanning session in.

I've been working on this major work project that needs to be 100% complete before I leave, which has added some stress, especially when I can't get people to agree! ::yes:: Just shake that head people!

We were also lucky enough to get tickets to the Christmas Day Parade, and I'm really looking forward to that! :santa:
