I rented points for next week (I now own at BLT...yippee) I am doing a split stay. 5 nights at OKW and 2 nights at BC. I really wanted 3 nights at BC. So I called to see how much it would be for my family to pay cash for a 2 bedroom Friday the 17th.....holy cow....$1000.00+++ for one night! Thank you but no thank you. My husband now understands why it made sense to buy into DVC. :thumbsup2

We always like to see what the cash rate is just so we can be shocked at what some people pay!! DVC is certainly the way to go!!!

If you charge it, they will pay. although a lot of people think now is not the time to buy a dvc membership with so many deals floating around (40% off, free dining, buy 4 get 3 nights free)

I think I might have sticker shock if I just priced out a regular room. :) Before we joined DVC, we wouldn't book a stay unless we could get a good discount. We would adjust our dates in order to get a discount.
I am so happy that DVC has made it possible to stay in nicer accomodations.

And the best part is that when you pre-pay 50 years of vactions, you stay in those wonderful accommodations for the price of maintenance fees only. We figured we broke even after 4 years (we bought in '97), and since then we have had up to about 30 days at WDW a year for less than $2000 out of pocket for our maintenance. If I was a mathemtician, I would also figure out how much the initial cost would figure into each year too, but I don't need to do that to see what a savings DVC has been for us. Just taking those vacations every year when we would have never gone that often without DVC is the BEST benefit. We consider it to be one of the best "investments" in family time we have ever made.

I wonder the same thing - sometimes I price Poly - becasue that is the one place we would like to stay that is non-DVC. The reg. rooms are always AT LEAST (usally more) $400. Do people really pay that ?????

Yes, people really pay that. We did, regularly, before we bought DVC. We always stayed at deluxe resorts, club level (BC, BW, or GF), and I can't remember a time that even with discounts (which we always found), our room ran much less that $300 a night, before taxes and resort fees. And we usually got either a suite or two rooms, because my DM often travels with us. So we were averaging a _minimum_ of $600 a night. That is why we bought into DVC.
This year (because we had developer points and banked points on the resale contract we bought) we're doing two six night stays in two bedroom villas and a five night stay in a one bedroom, plus we'll have points left over to bank. A conservative estimate of what we would have spent to do this is $8700. Plus, because of DVC perks, this year alone we'll have saved $300 on annual passes, $170 on internet charges, and something around $900 on golf. That's over $10,000 worth of value to us in one year. Now, admittedly, without DVC, we would probably have made two slightly longer trips instead of three trips, but it is still a lot of savings. I'm not even including the money we save on food in our calculations, but we are saving some because I cook breakfast for us every morning.
For our family, DVC is a fantastic value. We decided we needed a cheap vacation next month, so we booked that third vacation. Our friends are completely shocked that we consider WDW a cheap vacation, so we find ourselves explaining often that between our room being prepaid, our annual passes, and our 20% discount on food from the TiW, WDW is the cheapest vacation we can do right now. It really gives you a whole new perspective!

I tell people all the time what a great deal DVC is for us. They seem to be impressed but never buy. I think the words "time share" scare them. Once you take the plunge though you usually never regret it, and how many times have we heard I wish I would have done it years before I did. Thats how I FEEL.

I guarantee you we never, ever would have been able to stay on site, even in a value, before buying DVC. The value issue is simply: THE BEDS!!!! Who can sleep in a double for a week straight? Not us! Therefore we would have had to stay in Mod or better accomodations, and wow that's expensive. However, we stayed our first trip on rented points and never looked back. We take usually one long trip per year (we fly, we're from Ohio) so we absolutely love owning DVC. Maybe more trips in the future, and knowing our grandchildren can enjoy the membership is priceless.

Yes, they pay it, I saw it with my own eyes!:scared1:
2 years back I was checking into SSR early in the morning and a lady in line started asking me questions.
She booked a Grand Villa thru CRO for 3 nights. She pulled out her confirmation and there it was $3600 for 3 nights in a SSR Grand Villa!
What I like is I dont have to pay the resort fees separately. These fees can get outrageous these days. Most places are now charging them.
Nick Hotel charges $28 a night for resort fees, DLR charges $12 a night. You cant count on the quoted price anymore because once you check in, you have to pay all those fees!

I know people who do!
One family I know vacationed regularly (every 2 years) and occupied 2-3 rooms at GF, club level. Yeek!
Another family always pays cash for DVC accommodations. I offered to show her how to rent points (not mine, of course; they're MINE!) and save money but she declined politely.

I like to look up the cash prices for our resorts whenever we stay at WDW to have a comparison. This year, we have 3 4-night trips planned - 2 in a 1 BR and 1 in a studio. Just the room alone for all of these adds up to around $5,400. We would never pay that much for room accomodations alone. Even the cash discount we receive as DVC members is high to me - I was quoted ~$1,200 for a three night stay at AKV in May - yikes! :scared1: I figure that we will "break even" in way less than the "5-7" years that DVC tells you. :goodvibes
