Has anyone ordered room service to take off the ship? If so, did you order the night before, or can you order anything off the menu in the early AM? We are travelling with 2 children and I would rather they didn't eat in Mexico.

Thanks

I normally order room service the night before because some times if we get to port early, i want to be ready to go out the door, and not have to wait for the food to arrive.

i think you can order what you want. the dcl line has a room service menu in a book in the cabin, and i believe everything listed there is available 24/7.

We sailed on the 4 day May 12th. We called room service before we went to bed and asked for sandwiches, chips and cookies, to be delivered at 8:00 in the morning. It was right on time and actually served as our alarm clock as we overslept. It worked great for us.

p.s. the sandwiches are small order extra, the cookies are big!Don't forget to pack your ziplocs.

We were on the inaugural, and called in the morning at Grand Cayman (recall that's the early arrival port, I think we were off the ship a little before 8). We ordered the ham and cheese, and the turkey as well as a PBJ. We told them to skip the cole slaw, and they asked "are you taking this off the ship?" We said yes, so they brought us extra chips. They did say that they weren't sure if the port authority would let us bring the food ashore. I figured if they said no, I'd just throw it away (bad attitude, huh?). We had no problems though. No one asked. We had brought a little lunchbag type cooler, and packed ice in a zip lock. Bring plenty of zip locks!!

The PBJ was good, as were the other sandwiches. The turkey does come with mayo, so if you're worried about spoilage, ask them to leave it off. In my opinion, the sandwiches were big (but I'm a small eater). The turkey was on a sub roll, and was about the size of a Subway 6 inch, but with french type bread. The ham and PBJs were on regular bread. I know the PBJ was a triple decker, and I think the ham was too. I ate half the turkey, DH ate the other half. DD ate most of a ham, and DH ate half a PBJ and we were all full.

We took them on our Capt. Marvin's snorkling excursion, and just ate as we went from one place to another. One other family had brought the chicken strips, and I'd have to say they looked easier to manage, as long as you like them cold.

What a great idea! Having room service sandwiches while in port!
It never ceases to amaze me how many great ideas are lurking in the minds of the DIS posters!!!!

This one was definitely a keeper!

We have also taken sandwich off the ship with ziplocks and had no problems (EAstern Itinerary). The chicken fingers sound like a better idea than sandwhichs and I am sure my gang won't mind eating them cold.

I am also going to use the tip from these boards about bringing a cheese tray and crackers from room service to the movie theatre for a snack!!! I'll be sure to bring all the "trash" back out of the theatre with me.
