This is our oldest fur baby, BC.
http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/500/155152BC.jpg
She has been slowly going downhill for about a month now. She's old, but we have no idea how old because she was a rescue. We had planned to take her to the vet on Saturday because until Corey came home from her 2 weeks in TX on business, BC was acting like she felt really bad. Corey is her favorite of the two of us. Corey was the one that actually saved her. When BC would meow for Corey, it sounded like she was calling for "Mom". They shared a special bond. Saturday morning, BC was acting like she felt better and was a bit more active and wanted to be close to Corey. So, we skipped the vet. Corey left yesterday for another 2 week trip. BC made herself at home on the sofa and only left it a couple of times to follow me. BC rarely follows anyone through the house, so this is really odd for her. When I went to bed, I made sure that she was safely up on the sofa, because she hasn't been able to jump well lately and her front legs and face had begun to fill with fluid, so I knew that she was getting worse. This morning, she was in the same spot on the sofa. Her face looked worse and she could barely stand. I had to go to work though. :sad2: I was able to take off a little early and when I got home, she was still on the sofa, her face was so swollen, she acted disoriented, and she couldn't stand. I knew that this was more or less it. I scooped her up in the blanket and took her to the vet. The vet said that she had never seen a cat so full of fluid and that she should have been dead a few days ago. I explained to her that Corey had come home and that BC rallied for the time that she was home, but crashed almost as soon as she left. It's a testament to their connection. Anyway, I was told that it was more or less time to make the decision because she was in congestive heart failure and renal failure. So, I made the hard decision. :sad1:
I called Corey and told her after I got back home. The house feels empty. We have 6 other pets and our house feels empty. I can't exactly explain that, but it's the way it feels right now. You can tell that Arwen and Cha both know that she's gone. Arwen kept BC company all night and all day today. I am going to miss her. She was our first baby together and an overall great cat.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Like you, we have always treated our pets like members of the family. We've had to make that decision for one of our babies and the grief was almost unbearable--like losing a child. It took me a long time to feel right again. It's really a testament to your character that you care so much, and that you're able to make that hard decision when the time comes. :sad1:

It's always a tough decision to make, but rest assured, you did the right thing!
This has to be the hardest thing about being a pet owner!
Things will get better with time! You may want to print out a few pics that you have and have them framed! It's always nice to remember!

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never an easy decision to make. But it was the right decision. Sounds like BC was quite the fighter and really hung in there.

My deepest condolences.
Losing a pet is so very difficult!
My mind always settles on this quote when thinking about lost loved ones:
"We do not cry because they are gone, we smile because they were here."
It helps me to remember all the good times, and it eases the pain just a little bit.
Hope it helps you, too.

I'm so sorry. That must have been a very hard decision to make. I think you did the right thing. That empty feeling, even when you are surrounded by your other babies...it will dissipate, but until then I offer you lots of huggs and condolences. :[

For now, I am ok and so is Corey, but Cha kept me up most of the night as he is in a perpetual search and scream mode trying to find her. :sad1: I guess that he will give up in a couple of days, but it's so sad to see him like this. He did this when George went missing because he had been eaten by a coyote, which is the main reason that we have strictly indoor cats now. Arwen is handling things ok. I think she knows pretty much since she laid with her on the sofa during her last hours. She keeps going back to lay on the sofa, which had never been a favorite spot for any of our cats to be in.
I guess that I come here now to ask for thoughts and prayers for Cha Cha, because he's having a rougher time than anyone. :sad1:

Oh Lindy I am so sorry to hear this , I had to have my mom's dog put to sleep on Tuesday morning about 2:30am. The ER vet thought she either had a brain tumor or cancer as she was having seizures and she was having a hard time getting them under control. She had not had not had any signs or symptons until Monday evening just after midnight. The doc thought the most humane thing was to let her go, but I have been suffering as has one of my cats and our other dog, he was crying at the back door this afternoon until Dh went out ot play with him.
It is so incredibly hard to let them go and I felt like I was losing mom all over again, but I know they probably met at the Rainbow Bridge.

I got home to find the Rainbow Bridge inside of a condolence card from our vet. :sad1: Then without thinking, I made popcorn. Popcorn shouldn't be a bad thing, but this is the first batch that I have made at home in 9 years that I have eaten without having to share it, guilt free. BC loved popcorn. She ate at least 5 pieces out of every batch we made.
I know all of this gets easier, eventually, I just hate the process.

*many many hugs* Im so sorry to hear this... it is always such a hard thing, and even though its tough you made the right decision.
I know its hard, but what I find helps is to talk about fun times you had together or the cute quirks you remember. In this way you can start to remember and focus on the wonderful times you had and be thankful for all the positives you got rather than focus being just on sadness.
I prefer to remember my furbabies for all the positive influences they had on me and how thankful I am to have had them in my life. Of course there are always lots of tears too...:grouphug:

Thanks again to everyone here for the thoughts and prayers. I brought home BC's ashes yesterday. We made her a spot next to our much loved and also lost Athena.
It's so odd how I no longer have a cat that is demanding my attention all of the time anymore. I didn't realize how much time I spent with her until she was gone. We both miss her, but at least she is no longer suffering. I hated that she suffered at all. She was a good cat and is forever to be remembered fondly.
