ATTENTION!! ATTENTION ON DECK !!
Okay all you Pirates,Princesses,Wenches,Swabbies and just you regular folk , I just got done talking to my T shirt printer (He does all the uniforms and Tees for my 6 Football teams) and He has cleared our design for the Cruise Embarkation T shirt - These will be silk screened and will look wonderful ... We will only be doing White as it will be Hot Hot Hot when we leave Barcelona , ( I was going to do Black but we opted against it)
So , below is the design for the Front and Back of the Official TransAtlantic Pirates Embarkation T-Shirt - We will not take orders till May of 2010 - Cost should be around 10.00 to 12.00 dollars per shirt , maybe less plus shipping charge .... We will probably take order for about a month to allow enough time for shipping to everyone .... So without further ado , Here is the Design
http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr227/cbrniner/Piratesshirt-1.jpg
That is all , now back to your daily duties ...

Cruise Banner (logo) for signature lines
Thar be many a crew asking me if they can be adding the cruise banner to there signature , And I figured I wouldnt keep it all to me onesies so here be three different sizes you can be adding to your signature line , Beware , those crewmates that dont be adding it could find themselves walking the plank come Sept 2010 ...Savvy ??
Instructions to add Banner to signature line Thanks Tia
Right click the size logo that you want and select properties. Copy the link then go to User CP and Edit Signature. Using the little yellow square (looks like a picture of mountains) above the signature box, paste the link that you copies from the photo properties. Make sure you don't get 2 http entries. Instead of using the yellow box, you can just type then paste the link and end with - no spaces in between the brackets and the link.

Where to get Adult Beverages before the cruise in Barcelona
Before the 2007 TA, we discovered the wine shop in El Corte Ingles, which is a department store located at the top of Las Ramblas. The wine department is on the lower level, in the grocery store. The selection is fabulous, and the prices incredible!

I'm noticing more tickers! I'm thinking it may be time for me, too, so I might start looking into that this week. :goodvibes
Sadly, I haven't posted or kept up with you guys in awhile, so I wanted to mention that several weeks ago I noticed a slight decrease in price on our cruise. Soooooo, about 3 weeks ago I went ahead and moved from a GTY Cat 10 to a Cat 9 so I don't have to rely on the Upgrade Fairy for sunlight. :rotfl:
I'm very happy with 2004, which according to Stateroom Reports apparently has a couple more feet of room due to the ship's design at that location. In fact, one report for 2504 says it's 3'-4' longer...not sure about that, but nonetheless, it's more space! :woohoo:

Adedward - Well done on sorting out the upgrade. I think with a cruise this long its best to go with somewhere you feel happy as youll be there a long time lol. Oh as for Spanish alot of the people will speak English in Barcelona. Me and my sister couldn't speak Spanish and had no problems really.
Terapin - Congrats on the 2 Cat 4s!

My symptoms were nausea, tightness in my chest, a sharp pain in my left shoulder, and a cold sweat. My cardiologist told me in the past when in doubt, chew a whole 325mg aspirin and get to the hospital. The aspirin opens your blood vessels to allow the blood to flow more freely. She also said you can never cry wolf when having chest pains or discomfort. They can tell from a blood test if you have had or are having a heart attack. There are two enzymes in your blood that elevate.
Good for you for volunteering for the first aid team. I work for an electric company and all of us are required to be recertified in first aid and CPR every year.

Thank you!
Yes, plans in full swing, indeed. We made our invitations and they are ready to send out. We've got many of the details worked out, but few implemented! I'm off-call this weekend so have some must-do's to do. It's fun, but expensive and a bit stressful. I'm so looking forward to it though. Many friends and family are joining us and I look forward to all the reunions. Plus, I get to look girly for the day (I'm normally just a little femme day to day!). Also, looking forward to our first cruise, our first vacation together, and some time to focus on being a couple after 12 years of parenting, sleepless nights, nursing, changing dipes, and wiping noses. Ahhhh to sleep in for 5 whole days! Bliss!
Thanks for asking.

Donna - thanks for sharing. The symptons sound pretty much like what would be normal to expect. You often hear that women tend to have unusual symptoms and not as easy to diagnose. I'm glad there was someone with you that understood and got you the help you needed right away. Yes the aspirin thins the blood which helps the flow since most heart attacks can be caused by the build up in the arteries.
Certainly glad you're on the mend!

Found you! Just popping in to say hi.
Life has been a bit crazy for me. I was supporting 7 (COO, Partner, 2 VPs and 3 associates) people and backing up the assistant to the President at work and finally broke down at work in April (sobbing at my desk - Guess I found my breaking point). So they have done some reorganization and now I only have 4 people to support (COO, 1 VP, 2 associates) and still back up the assistant to the President. I am hoping I still get to do the B2B, all depends on if we are in "fundraising" at work. Worst case I guess I will only get to do the Westbound Trans-Atlantic - I know Kimmy doesn't like that.
I have just now found the light at the end of the tunnel and have started my planning for the B2B (staying positive that I will get to do both). I figured best to start now since I am not sure how we have already entered June.
So based on my planning I thought I would share a few things...
1. I am planning on flying to BCN on 9/4 - You can start to book airline tickets around 330 days out (10/8/09) - right now I am finding 1-ways to be about $1480 and round-trip to cost $706. Then for the return on 10/3 from MCO to SFO I am getting $180 for a one-way. (I got these by basing travel on departing in 2009 close to the 2010 date and same day of the week) Not sure what Disney will charge to add air.
2. Not sure when you can start booking hotels in Barcelona, but would be interested in where people are thinking about staying. I see that Disney has their hotel list up (and they are different than 2007 - 2 are the same). In 2007 I stayed at the Hesperia Presidente which was quite nice. Booked on my own though a website and got a cheaper rate than Disney was charging and was able to add on transfers if I wanted to the port.
I hope to stay updated a bit better now that work is more sane, but I am marching in the San Francisco Renegades again this summer so starting last weekend, I am busy every weekend from now till Labor Day. So if you are in the Bay Area or in LA area (7/11 & 7/12) check out the schedule at our website (http://www.renegades.org/calendar). I think I am a glutton for punishment as this was much easier when I was younger.

Be sure to check one-way flights on Aer Lingus. I just booked JFK to Rome for a Celebrity TA in November 2009. The one-way fare was only $372!

Hi,
My husband, son and I are booked on a med cruise for 7/8. I toyed with the idea of the TA, but after looking at the headline costs on the DU website dismissed it as being far too expensive for a second holiday!
However, after meeting up with DizzneyDAnn whilst she was passing through Heathrow a couple of weeks ago i thought i would check out the costs just in case! I contacted DU and was astounded that the cost of the two week TA was over 50% cheaper than the 11 night med cruise! What could I do, it seemed such a good offer, it would be ridiculous to turn it down! We were initially quoted on a Cat 6 but we could not chose the stateroom, but for an extra $400 we upgraded to a cat 4 which we could chose. So we are booked, just four weeks between the two cruises! I did toy with canceling the med cruise, it does now seem amazingly over priced, but as our son is not coming on the TA felt it was a bit mean to tell him we are not going. I intend to keep an eye on the costs of the med cruise in case they come down with the lack of interest.
So there we go, we are booked and i am soooo looking forward to all those sea days and spending time with DizzneyDAnn and her family.
We did the last WB TA and the weather was amazing, the Atlantic was like a mill pond without a trace of a wave for several days in a row - here's hoping to a repeat.

Looks like the prices on this cruise went up significantly today, about $400.00 for two in a cabin.

I think the website is...umm...seriously screwed up. I re-priced our cruise and got wildly different prices throughout the booking process. It came up 1000 more than what we are paying now, then on the final page, without changing any of the defaults or anything, it came up 1000 lower (the same as we are paying), to the penny. I suspect that the prices are the same but the website is screwed up. Or the website is screwed up and the prices have been raised. :rotfl:

I've been tracking the prices on a spreadsheet at least once a month, and have found that they are back to exactly what they were before the price drop in late April/early May. Glad I upgraded a few weeks ago!
Along those lines (well...sorta), I became unemployed today. They eliminated my position. So let's hope in the next few months I find a new job so I can still take this amazing cruise!

Kimberly - so sorry to hear about the job. I lost a job about 12 years ago. I was terrified being a single parent and two boys still at home. I got a decent severage package which kept be afloat for a while. I ended up working temp and snagged a job at the place I work now. Unfortunately, I had to temp for 4-1/2 years before I got a permament job (2 of that without any benefits - talk about keeping your fingers crossed). I really like my job now (well it's got it's good and bad days but I love the people) but everytime there's talk of a cut back I always flash back. Having said that, I have found that I truly believe that saying that when a door closes, a window opens (or something like that!). I had worked at the job for 13 years and suddenly poof! But, I ended up in a better place and god willing, will be there until I can no longer work.
Just knowing you from our time on the DD thread and the cruise, I expect that you will end up in a better place. You are definitely a survivor!!

A quick fly by to subscribe and say Hi!!
It is iffy that we'll be able to go on this cruise as we are starting a major remodel on our home. In fact, we have to move out while the work is being done - at least 8 months. But - we won't cancel until the last minute - we still hope there will be a few dollars left after the work is completed.
I had such FUN on the 2007 WB TA - and DH loved the EB Panama Canal cruise so much he is determined to go on this one. Fingers crossed - maybe I should buy the occassiona lottery ticket!!
Been too busy to keep up w/this thread but I do pop in now and then.

Hi,
My husband, son and I are booked on a med cruise for 7/8.
Lorraine
Welcome!
Welcome, Lorraine! You join many others here who were on the WB TA in 2007, so you will no doubt see some familiar cruising friends! Congrats!
I am sending pixie dust your way - I too - am of the belief that things happen for a reason and that if you have a good positive attitude things will work out. Sometimes not without some pain and anguish - but let's hope that isn't the case for you and you find something close to home, more money and something you really love!:wizard::woohoo:

I'm back after a long weekend in Hawaii. Had a blast and really didn't want to return. Especially knowing my parents are still there. For those of you who are Facebook friends, I have a few pictures up. More will be coming but I just haven't had time to download and edit the underwater pics.
I'm hobbling around a bit. I sliced my foot on some coral. I wasn't trying to stand on it, but I got too close to some rocks and then a wave slammed me into it when I was trying to get away.
Had to search for the thread for a bit. Should have just bookmarked it when Todd created it a while back. Live and learn I guess.
Hang in there Kimberly. I was there last year. My job was 'eliminated' last April, 4 months prior to the Panama Canal cruise. I went anyway because fortunately I got a decent severance. I found my current position in December. I'm still on contract but hopefully will become permanent soon.

Don't worry too much. The waves were bad for a few days on the EB but only a few days. The WB was beautifully calm but they were unseasonable (meant to be the other way around according to Cruise Director Rachel)

That's bitter-sweet news to face, I'm sure. I'm sure you've been anticipating this remodel for some time, so it will be awesome to see your visions become reality! Nonetheless, 8 months of not being in your own home sounds pretty difficult to me. Absolutely keep us posted on its progress, and don't neglect to take pictures throughout the process. Greetings all...
Kim---so sorry to hear your sad news! A very good friend (and inspirational colleague of mine) just lost his job in Los Angeles, too. He emailed me last night to let me know that the agency he's worked for for over a decade closed its doors after being open for 25 years!! It really stinks. (Especially because he and were supposed to co-facilitate a workshop at a National Conference in Chicago in August and now he doesnt' think he'll be able to make the trip). It stinks that the job market is like that for some people.

:rotfl:
HI Kimberley - good news on the upgrade - I am hoping for the Upgrade Fairy - if not we may just see of we can get one at the port!

Look forward to reading all about your cruise Corinna. Glad you had a great time. I am fanatasising about cruising at the moment - would love to sneak one in before the Disney cruise next year! But with kids and exams and one starting university, plus school holiday issues it won't be realistic.

I'm a little worried about mal-de-mer too. I'm going to invest in everything from sea bands to ginger capsules to meds.
When we traveled to the east coast of Canada (lovely, btw) we went on both a lobsterboat-cum-whale watching tour and a large car ferry and I was nauseous on both to the point of exclusion of all activities. I'm hoping being proactive with the meds will work. We have a 4 day Bahamas cruise booked before this big'un so I hope to find my sea legs on that one.

I've looked into airfare (well sort of) and it's not as bad as I thought. I looked at AerLingus from JFK to Barcelona one way for this Sept and it was just about $330. Hopefully it will be even better next year (we can hope!!)

Thanks Sarah, Melodie, and Erik for the hugs! I'm uncharacteristically calm about the whole unemployment thing. (I’m typically a big worry wart about risks.) I hope I stay that way, because it's much more bearable to be positive than wallowing!

Ugh! Indeed hurricane threats are new to your world, Sandi! Have you guys been there a year yet? If not, it has to be pretty darn close, right? I echo Melodie's words that I hope it's a hurricane-free year (or at least that they're weak)!

Wow! $330. Really?! That's awesome! About a month ago I spent a little time looking into Sept 2009 pricing, and I found it to be cheaper to purchase round-trip (then I would cancel the final leg). That roundtrip fare was around $580 from Columbus to Barcelona. I think I may get a TA involved when the time comes to have them find me the best rate/route.
My apologies if this was brought up already, but has anyone noticed that our departure time (per DCL website) has chaned to 4:00 pm instead of 9:00 pm(isn't that what it was originally scheduled for?)? That kills the hope for a big fireworks farewell from Barcelona. Castaway Cay will seem like a blink (11:15 - 4:30). :sad1:

We met 43 years ago on a blind date and dated long distance and got married in 1969 in Key West, Florida.
Right now we are watching hockey and having a great time. I am making sure that I totally veg while I am here. no worries, no problems, just lots of ME time and lots of snuggle time with the grandbabies!!! :goodvibes

....CC....Wow, doesn't leave a lot of time to set up lunch!!!!
I also thought it would be fun/romantic/cool to sail away from shore at night, not to mention cooler. As for CC, I was trying to think of the best way to get the most time out of CC, and my thoughts were to have "brunch" on the Magic and skip the CC grill, which would totally stink BTW. Then the same thought that you had, Melodie, crossed my mind. How in the world will they have the two lunch spots ready?

Well that is a shame - I was hoping for a late sailing from Barcelona so that we could get off the ship and have a look around before sailing - not much chance of that if we sail at 4pm.
Also CC - that doesn't leave much time for any activities does it? We were hoping to do the waverunner tour (cancelled on our last trip), but by the time you have disembarked the ship, cycled to Serenity Bay, had lunch, chilled for a while, cycled back - one quick cocktail at the Heads Up bar, and it will be time to leave. Not a good plan! Still, there is a lot of time for changes between now and then!:wizard:

I'm with you, Sarah! Time changes for both Barcelona and CC are what I'll be hopeful for. Afterall, if you can depend on anything, it's change, right? Change is a constant. :)
Obviously we have a distance to cover from Tortola, but I still will be hopeful that the Captain can kick it up a few knots on our sea day to gain us even 90 more minutes on CC!

On the Double Dip cruise last fall we had a very short day on Castaway, too....but at least on that trip we got two stops at Castaway...I can't believe that on our only stop at Castaway we have such a limited/short day?! UGH! I would gladly give up the other Caribbean day to have a longer or additional CC day!! (what is it again? Tortolla? I'm so awful...I don't even know the ports we're going to on our trips...you can tell what's important to me....and it isn't the destinations---except for Castaway! :lmao:)

I agree with you 100% - forget one of the islands and give me Castaway. I am glad about the 4:00 departure time because then I can sit on deck and watch the beautiful Med in the daylight. Did they have fireworks the last time they left Barcelona? I cannot imagine them doing that again - it is no big deal to them the second time around only us :lmao:

I think Sandi was asking about if they did fireworks when the ship LEFT Barcelona for the last time....on the first WESTbound TA. Sandi definitely knows about the fireworks when the Magic ARRIVED in Barcelona for the first time on the 2007 EASTbound TA----because we were all aboard the ship that night and saw it live!! Of course the other way to see the beautiful Med in daylight is just buckle down and book a B2B with the last 10-night Med cruise like we did!! ;)

Hi Everyone,
I am here in the Outer Banks, North Carolina with my DH and children and grandchildren. We will celebrate my oldest son's birthday, my daughter's birthday and the 40th anniversary of my DH and I being married.
:goodvibes
Happy anniversary
Glad you had fun. Can't wait for the pics
I have started on my trip report. Once it is done, I will cross post it in the UK trip reports section and put a link in my signature. The photos from my digital camera have been downloaded and the photos from the ship's photographers have been scanned and all photos are now on photobucket.
I suffer very badly from motion sickness. Cars, buses, fairground rides and small boats make me all very ill. We had 35 foot waves on the last full day on the Magic last year and I was absolutely fine. Those big cruise ships are amazingly stable.
I actually like the idea of leaving Barcelona at 4 pm, but hate the idea of the extremely short day at Castaway Cay.

Yes and Yes! :rotfl2:
Sandi and I were exchanging a couple of emails today, and she confirmed that I got too excited and jumped on responding before absorbing that she indeed meant LEAVING Barcelona! :rotfl: It was at that moment that I realized I had a brain freeze. GEEZ! I absolutely knew they were on the EBTA! :rotfl2: I knew that's how you all first got to know one another!
What the heck? I didn't even have any wine today! :lmao:
BTW, Erik, I really hope your friend who lost his job last week will find another one that makes him just as happy! Very sad to see people loose jobs, and even sadder to see comanies go under.

It is interesting. Cuts out about 5 hours of Barcelona time.
I am sure that upon review, they are trying to maximize our port times or I would at least hope. Someone had mentioned before "How can we get from Barcelona to Gibralter in x amount of time." I think it might have been Corrina's DH who looked at the nautical time facts way back when and asked how could we get to Gibraltor so quickly. The fact is, you can only cover so many miles in so much time.
We did the Tortola trip a few weeks ago and it took 2 days to get to Tortola and we felt that we were hauling and making good time. I am surprised that we don't get into Castaway Cay until 11:45 or so. I'm hoping that changes.

Yeah it stinks for him....and it does stink for companies to go under....but in our field it's even worse. I work in non-profit HIV/AIDS....and his agency, based in LA, was a program that worked with high risk youth and I believe addressed issues like sexual health, substance use, mental health, runaway risk, etc.----so while it stinks for any business to have to go under, it's particularly sad when it's an organization that provides a vital community service to a high-risk/need population. :sad2:

welcome aboard....read post 1 for all the fun info about the trip.....
but in answer to your question, yes they do more shows on the sea days. When we did the EBTA in 2007 there were two additional stage shows (one of which I really loved and one of which was kinda painful :lmao:), several additional cabaret acts (puppeteer/ventriloquist, musicians, magicians, etc.) and a couple celebrity performances (on our trip it was Boys II Men and Jim Brickman). They also sometimes use the big theater to show a major Disney release film----on the EBTA I'm pretty sure they showed the premier of the POTC film that was released around that time (and on our recent 4 night on the Wonder, even, they showed "Earth" as one of the evening entertainment/show options). DCL definitely doesn't leave you bored in the evenings!

Sarah, you're too nice! Thank you. Do you have an interest in the potential job move? It's always easier when you have something that intrigues you.
Not really. Things here have just got too much so its kind of move or be dumped upon. My boss is moving and I kind of was expecting to get offered a temp position to cover her post while they found someone permenantly only instead they've given the position to someone who hasn't been on the team for 2 years and is part time so it makes me the only full timer on a team of 3 and to top it all my new boss is actually taking over 3 posts in the office so basically will have very little time to cover my old bosses post so I can see it all being dumped on me. Worse thing was it was never even discussed with my old boss who they felt would cover the job best or anything and the person given the post isn't qualified for it while I am. I'm taking it as a sign of how people feel about me and so am moving on before I end up killing someone. I have worked really hard at the job I am currently doing and have got exceeded in my last two reports but this seems to not matter in our division so I think I'd rather go anywhere right now. The fact that this decision was made without any consultation and no one even asked if anyone would be interested in it just shows me I don't want to be here. I'm hoping to get a post in my old bosses area as some of these sound OK but its kind of a forced move. At least Ill be less stressed lol

:sad1:

Good morning everyone.
Welcome to the new families:goodvibes
I was on DCLs site last evening and it showed us leaving Barcelona at 9:30 P.M. and arriving at Castaway Cay at 11:30 until 5:30 P.M.
So maybe what you saw was a glitch in the system or something but as of last night it was showing the original hours.:confused3
I hope it stays that way.
My life is calming down a bit, so hopefully I will be home more so I can post more in the near future. Mom is settling into her routine in her new home. We will finish cleaning her house in one more weekend and then turn it over to a realtor to sell. Last weekend we got the flower beds back in shape. That was a BIG job.
Next week we are going camping for a week to relax some. my nerves are shot. Then hopefully right after the July 4th weekend I will be home more and can catch up with this board.
Your all so chatty it is hard when I am gone for days at a time. We cant wait for this cruise!!

That will be hard for those of us arriving the same day. Most flight through DCL arnt arriving until 2 p.m. or later and then you still have to get to the port.
maybe they will change us to earlier flights, however there arnt all that many going over. Most are red eye and arrive close to the same time. I was hoping after the muster drill to get to off the ship and explore for a couple of hours before having to be back on board.

Yikes! They can't have people planned to arrive that late for an international flight! They'll *have* to change their flight plans for most of the same-day arrival people!
Kathy brings up a good conversation point. Has anyone had experience with late night sailings to speak to when the Muster Drill would occur? I would think it couldn't be until close to departure time because the majority of guests need to participate. If they went back to the 9:00 all-on-board for departure, it seems possible that some may not arrive until within maybe two hours of that time, if it be due to travel or because people are sightseeing Barcelona.

On the previous WBTA, we were on the ship for 1 full day before we departed. The muster drill was surprisingly held at 3pm on the day we boarded, not the day we departed. I missed it because I was out exploring the city. I just received a letter in my stateroom explaining the evacuation process.
Now if we are really departing at 4pm maybe DCL will fly us in a day early then I'll have time to explore the city some more. I can't imagine them being okay with international arrivals within 2-3 hours of the departure time.
I was on an RCCL cruise many years ago departing out of FL. I purchased airfare through the cruiseline and when I got my flight assignment I was surprised that they didn't fly us in the day before. And they didn't even put us on a red-eye. When I called to inquire about it I was told that I could have requested to fly a day ahead, but since I didn't I was stuck with the same day flight. Our scheduled arrival was 3pm for a 5pm departure. I was so glad I had booked through the cruiseline, because they HAD to wait for us when we were late.

I know this has nothing to do with the cruise BUT...
I am beaming with pride right now for my brother, his son and son-in-law. My brother owns a cargo company at Dulles Airport and is now all over the news for shipping the equipment the Navy will use to search for the Air France flight that went down. I am always proud of them as they ship a lot of equipment and supplies for the military to Iraq for the soldiers to enjoy as well as eat and have protective equipment.

Melissa and I will be doing this , and from the look of it I dont have to wear a silly helmet so it looks like Jacks Hat and Elvis glasses for Barcelona ..(and Yes these will be the ones from the PC that ended up at the bottom of the ocean in Aruba and were recovered by yours truly ..)

Definitely will think about it. The FAQ didn't say anything about a minimum age. I would think it would be okay for DS to be a passenger.
I wouldn't mind doing the bike tour again...maybe this time I'll get to experience the beginning of it. LOL.

That's one reason we plan on going in early and having time in Spain, not just Barcelona, to me flying over and not spending some time in Spain would be so sad... especially since my DH has been there and wants to show me his heritage. Several generations ago, but nonetheless - important to him.
I di not know you were going. Yeah it is like a repeat sisters cruise, only better:thumbsup2

...I am beaming with pride right now for my brother, his son and son-in-law. My brother owns a cargo company at Dulles Airport and is now all over the news for shipping the equipment the Navy will use to search for the Air France flight that went down.....
That is *AWESOME* that they've done so much to help so many! What great men!
The AirFrance flight demise is so sad, and I really hope that now they've found the site that they can learn something from it for the safety of future passengers.
On the previous WBTA, we were on the ship for 1 full day before we departed. The muster drill was surprisingly held at 3pm on the day we boarded, not the day we departed.....Now if we are really departing at 4pm maybe DCL will fly us in a day early then I'll have time to explore the city some more. I can't imagine them being okay with international arrivals within 2-3 hours of the departure time.....
Oh that would be *so* nice if we had the full day before departure as you did! It's too bad that the 10-night Med debarks on the 18th instead of the 17th...although I know all of you doing the back-to-back wouldn't want to see that change! If they stick with the 4:00 departure, it is going to be interesting to see how they handle that for all of those flying across the pond.

The cruise was fabulous. We visited 33 ports in 12 countries.
One highlight was Tanah Lot Temple (http://www.embassyofindonesia.org/tourism/images/bali_tanah-lot.jpg) in Bali. Built in the 15th century, it sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide. Breathtaking!

Last time they still had boat drill at 4 something and said you had to be on board then if you had checked in

This morning I went online to make a payment towards the total due on this trip. Logging on to my reservation, we were still shown as GTY. When the screen popped back up after the partial payment was made, there was a room assignment! I was quite surprised. Room 5004, which I know has some good qualities (quiet room because it is on a floor with so few rooms), but, since we have no kids, really wasn't thinking of the kids floor as our space when we upgraded to a category 8. Hmmm. Will have to think about this one.

Yes, I've looked around now at opinions of this area. Seems most everyone loves the location. There are only a couple of exceptions: folks who didn't like hearing the theatre noise below them during show time. Other than that it seems to be very quiet, so that sounds great to us. Hey, I have a room! :goodvibes That must mean we really are going on this trip.

We had 5013 and were please with it. We never heard any theater noise, possibly we were not far forward enough? Or more than likely we really were never in the room except late at night. My only complaint was that my room was right next to a cast member entrance. The door slammed a lot because it was a self closing door and no one took the time to soften the close. But again, we weren't in there often enough to really be bothered by it. You'd be far enough forward and on the other side of the hall, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Woody - Welcome back!!! Sounds like it was an awesome cruise and the picture is fantastic!
Thank you for the warm welcomes. It's nice to be back planning this TA cruise with you.
From our travels, here are some observations on luggage:
1. Pack light. I took too many clothes on our last long cruise. I really did not need six pairs of pants. What's the saying, "Take half the clothes and twice the money."
2. Check your airline's luggage limits. Foreign carriers (such as British Airways, Air France, Air New Zealand) often have stricter luggage restrictions than U.S. carriers. Be sure to review the limits. You don't want to get to the airport with a 40 lb. carry-on only to find that your carrier has a 25 lb. carry-on limit, and you have to pay an extra $100 to check that bag.
3. Double check luggage limits for European domestic flights. If you are planning any flights in Europe (such Paris or London to Barcelona), note that luggage restrictions can be even stricter, as little as 15 lbs. for a carry-on.

Hi everyone. DH and i just got back from a week with our kids and grandkids at the Outer Banks. It is amazing how fast seven days go by. The nice thing is that I was able to have some ME time. My DH was really good about that. He knew I needed to just veg and have alone time in the pool. I even bought a Pandora bracelet.
I will be sure to post pictures. Our oldest son took a lot of pictures and we did a family portrait. Just hoping we got one good one out of all of the pictures he took. The kids did post pictures on facebook.
After Magic Meets I can really concentrate on this trip!!!!!

Can we expect a trip report????:woohoo:
You know- I've always journaled (writing in journal- not online anywhere LOL) but I've never written a trip report before. This time maybe I will get around to doing that!!!! It was definitely a wonderful trip so it would be a delight to share it!!! I tihnk the reason I've never wrote a trip report before is that I know I wouldn't be able to write like the entertaining, eloquent, awesome trip reports I've read here. Yanno? hmmm.. maybe I'll get working on that soon. Maybe you talked me into it. LOL
I wonder where I should put my whole trip report (camping forum or cruise forum) or if I'd have to split it up to post about each portion of the trip in a trip report in each forum? I'll have to read some other trip reports to see if it's okay to post in the cruise forum our ENTIRE trip or only the cruise portion. :)
Hey are we really going to have such a short time at CC? The times that are showing now are basically eat lunch the minute you get off the ship? I'm really not fond of that.. we look forward to Castaway cay and I'm not happy about such a short time there. I mean the time there usually goes so fast anyway- I can't imagine how fast those few hours would go by.
Do you really think it will stay that way and they really intend to just give us a few hours at CC? I hope not. :(

Terry, I *LOVE* these photos! What a sweet family! They both just warmed my heart even though I don't "know" you!
As a side note, I hope you don't mind that I snooped through the entire album. Someone has an amazing camera and photography skills.!!! There were many in there that were very cool! I especially liked #4 with two of your grandsons on the beach with the sand pail and the apparent time lapse in #13! If either you or your DH took these, I might have to hire you as my vacation photographer! :worship:

You're most welcome! I really like the fabric as well! I'm still contemplating the sundress myself! I'm trying to decide if I order it one or two sizes too small so it fits next year! I so want to loose weight before this cruise.

Thank you so much Kimberly. Actually my oldest son took most of the pictures. He is officially a photographer. He has a web site and everything. He also teaches Graphic Design. All of my kids and their spouses love photography. They got that love from my DH.
Here is my son's web site. Naturally a lot of the pics are of his kids but also lots of family. My one Nephew got married and Howie took pictures. Also a neighbor friend of ours --their son got married and Howie took pictures. But he also has an eye for the unusual. Hope you like looking at those pictures.

Be careful with the sizing, my friend bought those for the whole family and they were way too small.

My DH and I have just returned from a 12 day RCCL cruise to Scandinavia and Russia. We had a fantastic time and learnt lots.
Here's a link to my trippee . . .
Nice trip report. Thanks for sharing.

I wondered if this was the case and they just want everybody on board for the boat drill, but still won't leave until later in the evening.
I hope so but doubt it. I know the last time on the WB we stayed over night so it wasn't an issue about being onboard at 4!

Just checking in and keeping up with the news. Been watching the exchange rate for us Brits, :surfweb: and the £ has improved a bit against the $ so decided to pay off some of the balance, still a way to go... :rolleyes1
Anybody going to be at WDW last two weeks in Sept ? We will be at SSR for our first DVC stay and really looking forward to this. :thumbsup2 catch the start of F&W. again.
Oh lucky you! I still am hoping for the lottery win so I can go on a nice holiday to Disney this year!

Woody
Oh good tips!

Greetings! It's been a few months since I've checked in and thought today was the day to do so! Sent the info in for the roll call and chomping on the bit for this cruise to happen!

Me too. I'm getting "Are we there yet" syndrome. Got the Passporter last week so now sending DBF insane with "oh did you know" facts and seeing as hes never done a Disney cruise the answer is always "no"

Hi again everyone!
It's been awhile since I've checked in... we just got back from our week at FW (had a great time!) and then the 7nt western--- which was fabulous btw and we really miss it! Now we really REALLY can't wait for this cruise... and it's such a long time to wait. *pout*
I'll have to read back and catch up a bit- but I hope everyone is doing well!
Anyone know how to time warp so we can be closer to sail date for this cruise? :confused3 :lmao:
I'm hoping to just fall asleep and wake up next June 18th! That's when Castaway Club members can start booking things

Well I've been off for a few days on my hols. Nothing as exciting as all you cruisers but had a lovely weekend down in Weymouth by the sea (I'm like a lobster now). Didn't cure my Disney cravings but did at least relax me a bit about my job and all the rest going on down here. My DM (gailadams_uk) & sister (rikimuk) who are going on this cruise too came with me as well as our friend from work and we all really enjoyed it. Never really caravan'd before but it was fun and cheap so all good. Also had a military regata going on down there, including a "storm the beach" set up with American military vehicles (including a Sherman Tank I think) storming up against the Brits. We didn't see it all but got to have a nose at the vehicles as they were staying on the same camp site as us. They also had a parade through Weymouth on Sunday (it was the Queen's trouping of the guards day so we assumed this was for this) but we decided to walk into Weymouth along a 2 1/2 mile path (which actually was a lie as it was almost 6 miles by the time you got to Weymouth). DM managed the whole route with our friend Mandy but we gave up at the midway point and caught a bus to Portland. Even went to see the famous Portland Bill lighthouse! Really nice trip just wish I had worn more suncream as my shoulders are burnt.

Hi! We will be there from Sept 20 - 27 at Pop Century, for the free dining. Then we will be at BLT for nine days, followed by Kadani Village for 10 days. So we will catch F&W for the first three weeks. Let's get together!

Hi Marilyn, nice to meet you. We are going to a UK dis meet at the Poly on the 22nd (which of course is open to everyone, not just us brits :goodvibes) I will post the details later if you want.

My babies turned ONE yesterday! If you've got a free 13 minutes (I know, I know... but there are two of them! :teeth:) I made this slideshow (http://www.vimeo.com/5173650) of their first year. I'd like time to crawl as they get bigger at light speed... but then kick and scream as time drags to, say, this cruise!

:rotfl: And I see my sentiments are echoed! :hug:Oh gosh Tink- you've got it far worse than me! Everyone knows that time goes by the fastest when your babies are the youngest- it does slow down a wee little bit when they are a bit older. The first year or two goes by in a blink of an eye! I can only iimagine how much faster it seems when it's twins- double the fun/double how busy you are with them/etc.= double the speed in time. ;)
Now I must go watch the slideshow and remember what I'm missing out on with all my babies grown to "big kids". (wahhhhhhhhhh) Good thing my sisters keep having babies so I can live vicariously thru them! :rotfl:

Thanks! We bought those onesies in sizes NB - 12M at Carter's before the girls were born, to take pictures in them each month. We do the same blanket and chair pics, and it's amazing to see them change and grow in the similar shots! We had anticipated that we would stop when they hit 1 year old, but considering they are just THIS month wearing the 9M ones (for the first time, when I get around to taking them!), I think we have a while. I refuse to let the last 2 sets go unused! :rotfl:

Okay I fixed it- just a broken image link.
I really like one I saw on someone else's signature line- that morphed from the graphic we had for the PC cruise to the one we have for this TA cruise. But when I put that in my signature line it was too big and cut off half the bottom of it. :( So this one will have to do.
I've posted this before but I'm not sure if you've seen it... Captain- you do know we're not doing the B2B, right? We changed those plans months ago before this most recent cruise we took (May 30th) :)
Just FYI.. since we're still listed on the list of B2B'ers. I wish! But that cruise before the TA is just too expensive for us. (and DH can't take THAT much time off from work and still be able to afford the cruise LOL)

howdy everyone,
just got back from a great weeks vacation up in the mountains here in Oregon. We rode our quads there with a few friends and relatives. Only 3 crashes which was pretty good average for that many people:thumbsup2
No I didnt crash but DH did. He hit a hidden stump, lots of bruises and bloody nose, 3 loose teeth but ok other than being sore.
Weather was just so-so but not too cold or too hot with a few sprinkles.
Lots of chipmunks and lots of deer running around including coming into camp until my dog Minnie chased them away.
Now to clean everything and get back to normal.
Next weekend we are headed to the coast for my birthday, so i hope the weather is a bit better then.

We are planning our first trip to Disneyland for the end of September or around there. We have always been at WDW in Florida.

For those who have been before. Of the 3 Disney hotels which do you recommend? I know 2 are walking distance and one is on property and the monorail goes to it.
Any tips about the park itself? How long would you allow to see DL and California Adventure?
What is a must see and what do you think is a waist of time?
Is it along ride from the LA airport? Just tryin to figure out the timing aspect of when we want to arrive.
Thanks for the tips,

All of the DL hotels are within walking distance. The Grand Californian is the closest as it actually has it's own entrance to California Adventure. The monorail does not go to any of the hotels. Unlike WDW, it is not a means of transportation, it is more of an attraction. The 2 stops are Tomorrowland and Downtown Disney. The Downtown Disney stop will get you closer to the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier hotel, but it is not right there at the hotels. Of the 3, my favorite is the Disneyland Hotel. I think this one has more Disney ambiance than the others. Most of the rooms are pretty big. And the Neverland Pool is the best. If your heart is set on staying onsite, then by all means pick one of the Disney hotels. But just so you know, staying onsite is not as much of a necessity at DL like it is at WDW. There are several offsite hotels that are actually a shorter walk than the DL Hotel or Paradise Pier. And certainly the cost is less. I've stayed at many of the offsite hotels as well as all the onsite ones and can recommend some if you want.
For a first timer, a minimum of 3 days would be needed, with 4 or 5 being ideal. Can't think of anything Disney that would be waste of time . Even the attractions that are at WDW are slightly different at DL. Some are better at DL and some are better at WDW, but they all have their own uniqueness. The only things I could think of skipping would be the 3D movies (Bug's Life, Muppets, etc). The queues are different but once inside, the movies are the same.
There is a great thread on the DL board. It's DL Guide for WDW veterans. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599 He's very thorough in recommending hotels, park strategy, ride comparisons, show comparisons, etc.
From LAX, it's probably an hour drive give or take depending on traffic. Orange County (SNA) and Long Beach (LGB) are actually closer (20-30 drive). And Ontario (ONT) is also an option, about the same drive at LAX. I usually pick based on a combination of price and flight times. My favorite is LGB though. It's so small that you can get off the plane, get your luggage and be in your rental car in 15 minutes. Plus that's where Jetblue flies into.

Thanks for the tips,
Kathy
I've actually only been there once. We went mid-June about 5 years ago. We flew in to LAX on a Tuesday. We checked into the GC and were in CA by afternoon. It wasn't really crowded and we pretty much covered everything we wanted to that afternoon and evening (FYI they had just opened TT). The next full day we spent in the MK. We left the next morning (after some time at DTD) to drive to Vegas. I thought it was kind of strange that there didn't seem to be too many crowds but we were happy. I think you should alot at least 3 days though so you can visit leisurely. I found that the GC reminded me of WL. It was pricier(!) than the other two but it was kind of cool that our room faced the CA park and had a great view!!

Thankyou both for your answers.
I think we really want to stay on property, just for the theme that Disney has. It keeps the magic alive after you leave the park. Probably the Disneyland Hotel but not sure yet.
I was there when I was 14 but back then there was one hotel and the Monorail went to it and one stop in the park. I am surprized it doesnt go there any more.
After all its only been 10, no 20, no 30, no 40 ,well lets just say its been many years:lmao:
Thanks again, I will pass on the info to Greg when he gets home. All their hotels have specials through the end of September so the prices arnt too bad for just us. If you book 3 days, get 2 free is one of the deals.
Are there any other attractions in the area to see if we have an extra day or two?

The monorail did used to go to the Disneyland Hotel. They tore that tower down when they built Downtown Disney.

We stayed at the DH last August before the Repo and it wasn't far to walk to the entrances, perhaps 15-20 mins. The monorail station is closer, but you then have to wait.

Can I ask: when will our webpage be updated with the new roll call? I emailed our info a few weeks back (or so it seems) and we are still missing from the roll call on the page. It will make it seem more real if I can see our name in print on our own cruise web page.

Good morning everyone,
We finally have a nice sunny day today. Headed for 80:goodvibes
Its about time we got some nice summer weather.
Hope everyone is having a nice day today.
Thanks for all the help with my questions about DL. I have one more question.
I want to do the Inidana Jones ride. But the video of it looks really rough. I know the vehicles and track are the same as the ones at WDW for the Dino ride at AK.
For those who have done both rides, is the bouncyness about the same or is one rougher than the other?
For anyone who has only done the Indiana Jones ride, how do you gauge the roughness. I dont have a bad back or anything, I just dont like a real rough ride.
Thanks,
Kathy

I believe our wonderful cruise web page guru has been on vacation (cruise and WDW) so it may take her a bit to update to present.

Indiana Jones is ten times (hundred times?) better than Dinosaur. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure if the ride is smoother or if the whole thing is just more enjoyable that I don't notice the jerking as much. Dinosaur is darker and louder and just not any fun, in my opinion. But I never pass up a ride on Indy!

Yes, our guru is on vacation at WDW so it will be a while and then she might be moving East - not sure of the dates yet so you might not see your name for a while, but she is wonderful - hang in there!
Yes, Dinosaur is a rough ride and if you can tackle that, you can handle Indy. I hope you have a great time. It was 104 at downtown Disney yesterday and it was sooo hot. Still had fun!:thumbsup2

I believe our guru is coming home tomorrow at least according to her FB. I hope she and her family had a great trip!
Does anybody on here live in either Elizabethtown, KY, St. Louis, MO or Springfield, IL or anywhere around there? My family is going there on vacation next week. I'm excited for vacation, but I'm going to miss my Dave... :( When I get home, wedding planning is going to go into high gear. In July we have to meet with the reception site, the minister and I'm going to meet with the florist (I'm figuring Dave won't want to pick out flowers! LOL!) so it's going to be busy!
Hope everything is going well for everyone.

Our wedding plans are in high-ish gear too. I am currently folding hundreds of silver origami cranes for decorations in lieu of flowers at each table. We're trying to be both budget- and eco-conscious. We are meeting with a florist on Saturday, and with a caterer on Tuesday. We have most of the planning complete, and we hired a wedding planner.

howdy everyone,
just got back from a great weeks vacation up in the mountains here in Oregon.
Rainy today around here.
Kathy
We are going to the Oregon Coast July 2-8. Hope the weather is nice....but we do know it IS Oregon! Hope Greg is lots better by now!
He was moving like a 90 year old man this morning but says he would do it again because he had so much fun.:lmao:

;
I would say at least 3 days. 4 would be better. We just got back and spent 2 days there, not nearly enough time. BUT, we do get to go back for 4 more days in October!
Be sure to see the Aladdin show at the Hyperion Theater in CA. It is amazing! Ride everything! :yay: DLH is our favorite of the three, but we usually stay off site. We did Priceline for our trip last week and stayed at the Crowne Plaza just down Harbor Blvd. It was very nice and they provide their own shuttle. Nice!
We have flown from PDX to LAX many times. Super Shuttle usually gets us to DL in about a half hour from the time we actually leave the airport. I think Jet Blue may fly out of PDX to Long Beach now. That would be closer.

I think they are very similar as far as the roughness. Not my favorite because of that. Just MHO. Be sure to check out Small World. The outside is beautiful compared to FL and they have recently updated it nicely inside.

See this is where us Brits miss out. Can't afford to do Disney this year if we want to do everything we want to do on the cruise next year. Even EuroDisney/DLP is so so expensive that it's not worth it (for 4 days there we could probably do a week in DW).

I haven't posted here in a long time (life's been quite busy!) and I'm not sure that anyone really cares one way or the other but I think we won't be going on this cruise afterall. DH and I have talked, and we're considering other vacations and trips, in place of this cruise. We haven't cancelled yet, but probably will by the end of the year unless we change our minds.
Anyway, I know this will be an excellent cruise and I know you'll all have fun! Have an awesome time! :sunny:

:wave2: Hi Everyone.
Just popping in to say hello to all of you. Been pretty busy so far this summer. We went on a short cruise on another cruiseline and I'll just say that DCL has the best service so far that we've experienced. Having been on a couple of Disney cruises first sort of raised the bar and the service certainly wasn't comparable. We breathlessly await the arrival of the Wonder here on the west coast.
One of the highlights of our trip was meeting up with MrsMork & DrHugg & their grandson @ DL. Angie & Dennis are wonderful people and Aaron is a nice & polite young man. We enjoyed meeting, eating and riding the Pirates with them very much. I hope we didn't dominate the conversation too much, but those of you who know them know that when you meet this wonderful couple, you feel like you have known them for years and are very comfortable telling them anything and everything! :rotfl: I can't wait to meet again.:grouphug:
We went ahead and got DL passes as we are going again sometime after July 21 and in October we are doing a 4 day trip. March 13 is one of our blackout dates:sad1: So I'll mark my calendar see what happens. That will be 6 months from our cruise date :woohoo: Final payments will be due soon thereafter, so we'll see.
We have season passes to several amusement places so the girls should be pretty much amused out by the end of their summer. They go back to school August 12.
Well, that's all I have right now. Everyone have a funtastic week.

Ok, time for a question of the week so we can save us from Davy Jone's Locker.
What are your plans for this weekend?
Here in the US its our Independence Day (July 4) which means a 3 day weekend for most, filled with BBQ and fireworks.
I will be traveling to Lake Tahoe for the weekend, using my parent's timeshare. It will be nice to get away, but I'm fearing the crowds. I've heard that it's already crazy crowded this week with the beaches filling up by 10am. :scared1:
I don't have any set plans. We'll probably rent some bicycles and explore the trails. Maybe attempt a drive around the lake. For the 4th there will be fireworks on the lake, but I don't think I'm going to brave the crowds at the shore. Our resort is pretty high up and there's a rooftop tennis court. I think we'll just try to view the fireworks up there.

headed for the 90's today. I miss my swimming pools on days like this:goodvibes.
I have been sitting here watching a doe wander around the field next to my RV. She has no fear of people yet. I hope she survives.
Last winter we had 5 deer and 2 got hit by cars and then we had 3 and now there is one. I dont know if the others just arnt showing up and have another area they are going to or if they are gone too.
I love watching them. Thye are so graceful.
well off to do the laundry today and work on 2 scrapbooks. I need to get all caught up before this cruise so I can do a book for this too, With 14 days it will be a BIG book compraed to most I have done.,:goodvibes

we certainly do miss out - I am going to Disneyland Paris in 3 weeks to get my yearly fix but I know what you mean about the expense of it all - we managed to do ok with the 40% off deal but otherwise it's so expensive. Oh to live in Florida and have access to the parks and DCL!

It is certainly dragging - I keep hoping that by the time we get to that "year to go" milestone things will pick up again. Then I can help pass the time by making magnets and fish extender gifts - and not leave it until last munute like last time. I also want to upgrade my pirate costume so that should pass some more time. And I still have to scrapbook my last cruise!
