The boys dont understand how far away the trip is! LOL! They keep asking when we are going on "da boat" LOL!:cutie:
Dont worry I ask that all the time also.

We've still got some to do next weekend (couple of hours probably) as were sorting out my Great Uncles garden so we can arrange for his house to be sold. The house hasn't been lived in for a little while so the garden in places has got a little wild lol. Luckily there's a dump near his house so we managed to go and dump 9 bags of garden waste down there - although brought decomposable bags as thought they would accept these but still had to empty everything out of them into the container! Very annoying!

I've just finally managed to take a look at Dream today! Actually I was quite impressed.

Have you seen the inside staterooms? I so want one! This "virtual porthole for real-time views of the sea—plus virtual sightings of animated Disney characters!" sounds so fun! My mum read that Crush will talk to you!

http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/ships-activities/ships/staterooms/dream-fantasy/standard-inside-stateroom/

I'm just sad that they made the inside staterooms smaller. We have sailed in CAT 11 8 times and never been crowded, not sure that will be the case with the smaller rooms. We will be more than happy to check it out though! :)

Tony and I have just sat and watched the whole presentation and I am so excited about the Dream - the technology is out of this world - I am so going to have to book a Dream cruise for Tony's 50th birthday in October 2011 even if we can only book a 5 day cruise as the maximum number of nights - wish the Dream was going to do longer cruises though, I will be spoiled after the 14 nights on this TA cruise.

I just loved listening to the imagineers and all the executives, they are so excited about the new ship!:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

I have to say that the virtual porthole was ingenious and I agree inside cabins will be wait-listed and not only for the price!

I'm doing the happy dance. I got my airfare today. For the trans-Atlantic portion, I paid just under 1/2 of what DCL was charging. Yes, I know that the DCL fare included MCO to home and transfers...but my next MCO flight is $71, so for basically $100 I can pull that off. Thus, I saved about $400 per ticket over DCL's prices AND booked an airline that as of today doesn't charge luggage fees!

I think if Dan enjoys this cruise then we are going to try and book a 4 nighter on Dream in 2011. I got a quote for 2010 4 nighter and 2011 4 nighter and the price for 2011 was around $100 cheaper than 2010 but not much difference really. Also looked at there are only about 150 inside rooms on Dream with there being 250 on Magic!!!!

Thats a very good idea - plus it would be the first Halloween cruise on the Dream! The only problem I have is that 5 days will not suffice - may have to combine it with a 7 day Caribbean cruise on another ship !!

Nope, no maiden voyage for me (prices were just a tad high).

Regular cruises are coming in at very reasonable rates. I might look at a holidy b2b (or b2b2b). It's so difficult to decide...I'd love to check out the Dream, but short cruises and Nassau just don't interest me. Now, the 4night/3night/5night over Christmas/New Year would have FOUR stops at Castaway Cay, for beach lounging, could get off and explore Nassau one day and the other two Nassau days just stay on the ship. I don't know....but it's fun to think about.

*****OR******* I could do a five night and then a cruise on another (don't shoot me) cruise line to hit some new ports. Hmmmmm...there's something to consider.

Well, I thought I had it all planned. Before I went on the Magic I did a lot of adding up and found that between annual leave and lieu days, I had enough vacation time to do both Transatlantic Cruises. Today I found out more or less by accident that they have shortened the opening hours over Christmas and that means that they need only two team leaders. As I car share with one of the other team leaders and he is the one that drives, they decided that they would put me down for mandatory leave. That means that I now don't have enough vacation time to do both cruises. I am so upset right now. Now I have to make the decision which cruise to cancel.

This is where you come in. If I can only do one of the cruises, which one is better to keep and why?

Are you booked on both the EB and WB TA? or is your other cruise a Med cruise? If you're on both TA's then you're probably the only one who can choose, depending on what's important to you. We'd booked the EB TA for about 2-3 days before switching to this on. The WB TA seems easier to do with kids, puts the long European flight at the beginning of the cruise (instead of at the end), and you gain rather than lose an hour each day of the ocean crossing. Plus it seems like the weather could be warmer in Sept than in April.

However, I like the EB schedule better which was why we originally picked it. You get a full day at CC, versus the half day on the WB (though it falls at the beginning rather than the end of the trip) and you get an extra european port rather than the regular Eastern caribbean ports. Plus you get a full day in Barcelona as part of the cruise (which we're paying extra for to do on the WB TA.)

$277 for a flight! Fabulous price.

Dsis has recommended the 1898 hotel in Barcelona says its very nice.

Corinna, we like the WB itinery better with the two Caribbean ports plus I hope the weather will be more settled. Saying that I wouldn`t turn down either cruise.

On another matter I`m wondering whether to use our DVC points for this cruise 330 total - that would leave us 30 points for a couple of days in WDW - decisions, decisions.

MrsMork
11-03-2009, 08:04 PM
Ok, Cheapoair does not include all the taxes and fees in their price. So their total for the two of us was $927 through Dusseldorf with a 6.5 hour layover there. There was another site that had a flight on Swiss Air (allows TWO bags still) thru Zurich with only 1.5 hr layover there for $945 for the two of us. I just went ahead and booked that one. The taxes and fees are not going to go down and I was hoping for less than $500 per person. Whew! That is done, now to get Beach Club Villas booked for a week when we return, find a place in Orlando to stash the RV for 3 weeks and get a rental car from Orlando to Miami ----- unless some of you seasoned travelers know of a better way to get from Orlando to Miami cheaply. :) Then I am done and just need to wait....oh, and save up some more $$$$

I am thinking of getting Euros now since the dollar seems to be getting weaker and weaker and I see no end in sight over the next year. Any thoughts on that?

Awesome on getting your air tickets already! Great deal!
We are coming out of Detroit, but it seems cheaper if we go through either JFK, Chicago, or Atlanta. We can fly cheap to those cities and then get a cheaper international flight instead of out of Detroit.
We have the kids though, so we are really debating connecting vs direct...at least when it comes to connecting out of the USA. And the bags thing is huge...who wants to pay for bags?!?!;)

We actually bought something for the cruise today! LOL!!:lmao: Walmart had a clearance on Halloween stuff and we got pirate tshirts for $2 each.

Corinna

This suggestion could be totally off the wall, but can you change the EBTA to the 2011 one? that could possibly defer the time you need off to another year or time period.

Kamy, great job on the Pirate gear! Since we can (at least so far) take 2 bags each, I plan to take our pirate outfits.

There is a direct flight from Atlanta and also from Philadelphia. I've been looking from everywhere back east since we will be traveling in our RV for the summer before the cruise.

Any thoughts on that?
glad oyu are sorted.

So for all 5 of us it was only $10, and they are super cute. So, even if we didnt use them on the TA cruise, we would use them sometime....right?!?!:rolleyes1

Corinna NOOOO! No to be honest I think this is down to personal preference and what ever discision you make will be the right one for you. The schedules are a good thing to go off as this is really the only significant difference between them, that and the TA flight.

Thanks for all your input. I think I will make a list of all the advantages and disadvantages of both cruises and make the decision then. I have the feeling it is probably the Eastbound that is going to go as this would have been a solo cruise for me and we are both booked on the Westbound. Another advantage with canceling the Eastbound is that I am both hoping and expecting that the Magic will move to Europe more or less for good in 2012. So maybe I should aim to be on the cruise that takes her there.

2011 is not an option. I have an Eastern Caribbean booked for our anniversary and we are hoping to do a vow renewal. Maybe I can add a 4 night on the Dream to that to make it a kind of back to back with one night on land in between. The irony is in 2011 I get an additional vacation day per year as I will have been with the company for 5 years, so a year later, this would not have been a problem.

Are you willing to share the secret of the reasonably priced airline? :flower3: I'm searching for quotes for our flight home, but there's not much going in the fabulous deals department! :rotfl2:

I'd snap that fare up in a heatbeat - we can't even get a flight priced that low from our local airport in the UK to Barcelona!:sad2:

I'm off to call BA to see if they'll do me a deal if we book all our flight segments with them. If we book all our flights separately as one-ways with them the prices are sky high. So, I'm hoping we can book an open-jaw ticket like we did last year for the WBPC Repo. :upsidedow

I found a great fare using mileage for a flight that is direct from the US. Problem is, I only have enough miles at the moment for 42% of what I need (enough for 1 ticket, almost enough for a 2nd, we need 4). I can buy mileage for $1350 that would get me enough miles now to lock down 3 of the 4 tickets needed, and I'd have the rest of the miles in a short period after that. I would in essence be buying enough miles for 2 tickets, equating to about $750/ticket, but with the bonus miles and my existing miles, I would hopefully end up with an out of pocket cost of $337.50/ticket for the transatlantic flight.

So the question is, is it worth it to spend that much on buying the miles needed, taking the chance that I'd still be able to purchase a 4th ticket with miles once the rest of them come through in a few weeks, or do I just keep holding off and looking for other options?

The airline that I'm looking at, the website price for the flights we're looking at is $2600+ for the one way flight, so buying that 4th seat isn't a viable option.

Wow - great prices there - way to go! :goodvibes We're not Globespan haters either - we've used them a few times for holidays to Spain and have never had any problems. :hippie:

BA have just gone and priced themselves out of the hemisphere by quoting me £744.30 per person one way - from Aberdeen to Barcelona! :faint: Even their sales person seemed shocked! :scared1: He wasn't surprised when I said that I wasn't interested in booking! :rotfl2: That's even more expensive than the price I got for a Virgin flight from Orlando to Aberdeen! :lmao:

Apparently, we can't book an open-jaw ticket that goes into one country then out of another. Of course for the WBPC it was into Orlando and out of LA, that's why we'd been able to book that as a roundtrip fare.

I'm away to check out Globespan's schedule and pricing then. :thumbsup2

I have not had good luck redeeming frequent flyer miles unless I book all the tickets I need at the same time.

You say you will have the additional miles in a few weeks. The problem with buying just three seats now is in a few weeks, the seats requiring the lowest mileage (say 25,000 miles for a saver seat) could be sold out, and you would need more miles for an anytime seat.

How much would it cost to buy points for the fourth seat? It might be a better option to book all your seats at the same time, either now or when you have more miles.

YMMV

The problem is I'm 68,732 miles short, and the most I can buy is 60,000. But with each 6000 miles purchased, you get 2000 bonus miles, which may not post until 6-8 weeks after the end of November. So unless I can get a family member to give me the shortfall miles, then I'm stuck.

What I did....looked on Orbitz and found flights. British Airways was cheapest for me. I couldn't find the same flights on the BA site or the AA flight (which had the US segment.) I did a fair amount of research and found A LOT of different routings. There's no way I'd get a direct flight from my home airport to anywhere in Europe--that doesn't exist; so I didn't really care what airport I flew thru.

I found flights from BCN to Madrid, London, Paris, etc. Again, didn't matter to me. Could fly to JFK, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago--again, I don't care where I'm making connections--one airport looks pretty much like another.

I wasn't comfortable booking thru Orbitz, so I e-mailed my TA the info I'd found. She used HER booking software, and got me the same flights I'd seen on Orbitz for abotu $20 less than their cost. Bottom line, I'm happy with the price, and it's DONE!

Oh no Corinna - you must be so disappointed ..... but at least you'll still be able to do one of the cruises. I would definitely choose the WBTA - no long flight at the start of your holiday, warmer weather in Europe in September, an extra "free" 5 hours on board with the time changes, the Caribbean ports and a few hours in Castaway Cay to look forward to at the end of the cruise. The flight back is an ordeal but at the end of your holiday you'll be miserable anyway so it won't matter! And the biggest bonus to the WB - you will be with all of us !!!:yay::yay::yay: plus you will be cruising with your hubby and not alone, which will remove the whole "single room" issue and give you 2 weeks quality time with your hubby  .

I have just booked my outward flights to Barcelona - and already we had to make a plan change.

The flight we wanted on the 17th departed at 07:00am, which basically meant that my Mum who is driving us to the airport (can't take a car as returning into a different airport!) would have to be up at 04:00 am which we thought was a bit mean - or we could get a taxi which would cost us £80 approx.

So the second option was to fly in on the evening of the 16th - flight departs at 18:30 and arrives Barcelona at 21:50 - this would mean 2 hotel nights but it would be easier on Mum or alternatively probably the same price had we decided to get a taxi - plus we get a whole day in Barcelona as opposed to just an afternoon. Total cost of flights for 2 adults with 2 checked in cases plus an extra 3kg weight allowance - £96.48 and I am really pleased with that :woohoo: :woohoo::woohoo:

Time to check out those Barcelona hotels again .......

We are thinking of staying at the hilton that disney recommends, anyone heard anything about his hotel.

Only stuff off trip advisor Im afraid. As a Hilton I would assume it will be a good hotel.

What I did....looked on Orbitz and found flights. British Airways was cheapest for me... <snip>... Bottom line, I'm happy with the price, and it's DONE!

Thanks for the info - I'm still looking through various websites and find that many are listing BA flights at prices wayyy below what BA themselves offered us!:lmao:

I think its to do with flying to 2 seperate areas or at least thats what I was told in 2007. You can book open jaw around Europe or around America but not including both!

How inconsiderate! :snooty: Don't the airlines know us Disers like to make our vacays a bit more complicated than most! ;)

WE just booked the transatlantic, it will be myself, my husband, and both fathers.

Welcome aboard! :goodvibes

I have just booked my outward flights to Barcelona - and already we had to make a plan change.

Total cost of flights for 2 adults with 2 checked in cases plus an extra 3kg weight allowance - £96.48 and I am really pleased with that :woohoo: :woohoo::woohoo:

Time to check out those Barcelona hotels again .......

Well done on getting a great price for your flights - the extra time in Barcelona will be an added bonus, too! :thumbsup2

It looks like I will be joining you all on this cruise! I was originally booked on the EBTA, but it turns out that the trip coincides with the school breaks in my area. School breaks are a busy time for me (I'm a pet sitter) so I decided to jump over to the WBTA. I'll be sailing with my dad (Mark). I look forward to meeting everyone, and will try to sift through the whole thread in the next few days.

:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

My only worry is the baggage - all checked bags have to be paid for (£9 per bag - 20kg each bag) - I have booked 2 checked bags and paid an extra £21 for 3 extra kilos. Can I get everything to weigh less than 40 kg total - I will keep everything crossed.

The cheapest flights I can get are with Globespan into Glasgow, but then I would have to get home from Glasgow ..... and thats a long way.

We have a balanzza and we love it! We used it for the first time on our cruise last December and it worked perfectly. One of our bags weighed 49.4 pounds with it, and weighed exactly the same on the airport luggage scale. The guy was amazed and said we had to have used a scale or something. It definitely came in handy. You just have to remember to pack it in a smaller bag, since it weighs a little bit itself with the batteries and all.

Has worked great on every family trip since then where we have to fly and meet weight requirements.

At one point this sailing was almost sold out. Then after the 2011 bookings opened some availability in the lower cabins opened up. I know we booked a Cat 8 GTY at the end of August. I don't know if once they start selling GTY in a category if they ever go back to selling actual rooms. If not, that could be some of what's driving the rooms at the moment.

I know what you mean! Virgin website at the moment is freaking me out as even though according to them flights for the 3rd October 2010 went on sale days ago they aren't showing up at all! Really starting to worry! We need the 8th October but those flights wont show up until tomorrow if they are going to anyway! Also there is an issue that until the 5th October the Virgin site is just showing 1 plane from Gatwick to London a day! No explination why!

I think they are quite full at the moment but this doesn't mean they will be. Cat 11's sold out straight away but have been popping up every now and then on the website (been keeping an eye just out of interest). Also youll find the boat is probably got a lot of couples and singles so the boat may be full room wise but probably not guest wise, or at least this is what we found on the last 2 TA's

We are still booked through Disney. We can't get verification from DH's employer until next week at the earliest that DH can get all the time off that we want. I did find flights to Dublin (3 nights) then on to Barcelona (3 nights). It looks like for us to go to Dublin first and then on to Barcelona will cost $3016 for the 4 of us to fly. Hotel in Dublin $390, an apartment in Barcelona $519...so about $3925 in all. We would book Southwest flights back from MCO when they come out and hopeully get the I wanna have fun $105 p/p fare.

Flights/transfers and hotel (2 nights Le Meridian) through Disney is $4500, so we can squeak out an extra Country and 4 nights of travel for that price.

Hopefully, the pricing will hold until I can get it booked. I also need to check Aer Lingus and United for their International luggage allowances. Thankfully daughter is a little bit of a thing...I can always pack a weeks worth of clothing in her backpack:rotfl:

For the EBTA we were planning to take Aer Lingus through Dublin and spend a couple of days there. My dad lives in Orlando, and Aer Lingus only has flights to Dublin from there a few days a week. I did look at the flights in reverse (I'm coming from JFK) but I'm not sure what the best schedule will be yet. It looks like he can take a flight from Orlando to Dublin Tuesday evening arriving Wednesday morning, but there is a ten hour layover in Dublin before we can continue on to Barcelona. I'm not sure yet whether we should spend one night in Dublin and two in Barcelona, or just suck up the ten-hour layover and spend three nights in Barcelona. I hate to lose that much vacation time in an airport, but adding another hotel makes it more complicated. As long as I have the air confirmed before final payment I'll be happy.

Put it all in prospective. Being on the Magic with all your friends:dance3:, entertained by Disney:happytv:, not having to cook or clean :laundy:for two weeks and not having to entertain the lil ones (if any are around) since they are Disney's problem now.. Compared to being stuck at home in a (insert applicable bad weather here), can't watch TV cuz the power is out :surfweb:(no entertainment), having to cook and clean:scared1:, keeping kids entertained.

:boat: Bring on the bad weather. Besides we can come up with new games on board. For example when the boat is rocking we can all gather on one of the upper decks with office chairs (they ones with rollers). The goal would be getting from the starting line to the lobby without getting out of the chair. It would be like a human pinball machine:rotfl:

Hi Sarah, have you tried phoning the frequent flyer number. I noticed as well that even though the calender on the book flights page is up to date, when you try it says sorry no flights available for your dates. Good luck.

Be careful of what you wish for.

Yesterday the Oasis of the Seas encountered 60 foot waves as it crosses the Atlantic to Ft. Lauderdale. It's arrival is now delayed two days.

I would hate to see our cruise arrive two days late.

There seems to be a problem with Virgin and their releasing of flights from Orlando to Gatwick. They have no flights showing after 24th September 2010. We got our upper class reward flights booked from Miami now instead, but will switch to Orlando when VA get their act sorted out. I've got the people on the frequent flyer help desk to report the MCO-LGW issue and they are looking into it.

Hi everyone,

It's been a little while since I've posted! Had a crappy couple of weeks but leaving for WDW tomorrow so things are looking up!
Anyhow, we will be flying out of LAX and were wondering if anyone else has booked out of there yet? Our TA quoted us $525 each and I thought that was decent but we are short on money right now and I'm hoping we can get something similar after Christmas. What do you guys think? Will it get any cheaper?

One can always save room when it comes to underwear. Wear it once then turn it inside out and wear it again

Actually you it depends on change with the others in your stateroom - Fred swaps with Mary, Mary swaps with Bob etc :rotfl2:

Or you could go with the camping underwear rule, one right way round, once inside out, once then wear it backwards inside and out - 4 wears that way - works better with granny panties than a thong :rotfl2:

On the serious side, one tactic is to take old undies and just throw them away to leave room for souvenirs, etc.

The image flashed through my mind to leave them in the fish extenders as "gifts" :rotfl:

How many times will we have to go through customs if we connect in European city, then on to Barcelona? I am concerned about going through customs during a layover. We are sure that we will have to connect somewhere in Europe ie Paris.

Is the planning part almost as good as the trip itself? I get very twitchy when I don't have a trip to plan - I think I need therapy.

We had a family planning session yesterday and I put my booking request into DVC - as it usual I got denied as I got my dates wrong - darn these time zones, I'm thinking if I do it again in a few minutes - the email said I could book again on the 8th - well it is the 8th here and has been for 18 hours :)

We are considering having a few days at DL on the way back and then getting annual passes and going on the Wonder out of LA in 2011 - sounds like a good plan to me :rotfl2:

Looking forward to the cruise, but it is still too far off... I do have a question however, for those of you who did the B2B the last time around (the last Med cruise followed by the Trans Atlantic), how did they work customs when you got to Port Canaveral? Did you have to clear customs after the Med cruise in Barcelona or did you have to clear customs for both cruises when you got to Port Canaveral?

Just curious how that works as that may affect how I shop... ;)

WARNING: non humours posting coming up:rolleyes:

Ok so it's no that bad but looking for input from our UK residents. As I have previously stated our plans are to visit DF in Strouport on Severn (south of Birmingham) the week before the cruise. I am trying to plan flights into the UK. Right now I can get a flight direct from Toronto to Manchester for $620 (CND). It leaves at 7:55 pm (our time) arrives 8:00 am (local Manchester time) on a Friday. My problem is I don't want to put out our friends by having them travel the two hours to pick us up in Manchester on a Friday morning. They may have to take time off and I know they are already taking 3 weeks off for the cruise. I know they would (and if they are lurking in in the background I know you said you would) Flights I have found into Birmingham are almost twice as much. My question is: How is the UK train system for getting from Manchester to at least Birmingham with luggage? The other options would be a car hire one way, but then additional one way costs, or staying in Manchester overnight and resting up and meeting up with them on Saturday.

One other question:
Why are they no planes where Peter Pan lives?

Because there is a sign that says "Never Neverland"

:lmao: I couldn't resist putting some kind of humour in. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Yes we were. I don't recall meeting but we probably passed like ships in the night. We did the Kayak/Snorkel trip in St. Thomas and the Tortola Beach excursion. Did you do either one of those?
Also, there is a group picture floating around...are you in it?

With the size of this group, who knows how we are going to get a group picture! I'm sure one of the veteran cruisers will let us know.

Our youngest DD is in the front row on the right w/brown jacket. DD, DH & myself are stacked up straight behind her. That was a wonderful trip.

If we haven't met, I certainly look forward to meeting you.

Just curious how that works as that may affect how I shop... ;)

Cant help you with this one but I think for US customs is the same in Port Canaveral as a Caribbean cruise. For UK it was that way too. Also on the Med cruises this time you actually go out of Europe so not sure how that will work either?

Jon

What about trying bus? Sometimes this is easier than train especially between wirports as a lot of the airports don't have good train links. Car Hire is an option. Enterprise and Avis are quite common across the UK so might be worth pricing up. Trains out of manachester are good but no idea out of birmingham,

Takes 2 1/2 hrs on the bus and they do some direct bus routes a day but not practicle for your times - http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk

However if you just wanted to get to Birmingham bus station its a direct route and takes around the same time and buses leave roughly every hour and a half so would be doable.

Train takes about the same and has 1 stop in Manchester Piccadilly

Personally I think bus's are easier for transporting luggage than trains. National Express are a great company and I've never had any major issues with them.

Great pic. We had a group one on last TA and they had to take it from up on the level 4 balcony between the two elevators. I haven't got the scan of it anywhere I don't think (and not sure where I've put the real pic) but will see if I can drag it out.

I`ve been looking at flights ( no change there! )
Icelandair have flights from JFK to Manchester for £280, on their website they have them to Heathrow for £221. Very good I think, though the planes look a bit crappy but I won`t let that put us off.
How does $144 sound for a one way direct flight from MCO to JFK?
This option could come in at a price I`m comfortable with.

Re transport links from Manchester to Birmingham - there is a railway station incorporated into the airport. Birmingham is about 90 miles away.

ooooohhhhh - I am so excited - have just booked my return flights from Orlando !!!!

Flying home on 3rd October with Globespan to Edinburgh- $338 per person
Then internal flight Edinburgh to Manchester £45 per person !!!!

Total price of return flights for 2 people works out at less than £600 - less than a one-way flight with Virgin for one person.

My flight budget was £1000 for both of us and I have almost halved it so I am really really pleased!

And a great big thanks to Lynne for the Globespan heads-up - there will be a cocktail on the Disney Magic with your name on it !!!!!!

If anyone is flying into the UK before the cruise there are flights with
Globespan from Orlando to Glasgow for less than $400 pp in the week before the cruise - you can then fly into Barcelona with BMI.

You can also get a flight to Barcelona via Ireland with Aer Lingus for approx £350

The trains that go from Manchester Piccadilly to Birmingham have amble baggage space and are comfortable. The same is true for most of the train between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly as the majority of them are long distance trains.

There are 4 hotels at Manchester Airport. The Radisson is between the Airport Railway Station and Terminal 2 and linked to both via a moving walkway. The other 3 are not directly in any terminal building, but still on airport property and offer complimentary shuttles. Our favourite is the Crowne Plaza, but there is also a Hilton and a local chain hotel called Bewleys. I would definitely recommend staying overnight. Having done plenty of flights from USA back to UK and then having a 2 hour plus train journey before we moved to Manchester, this is something that I recommend to be avoided if at all possible.

There are no trains to Birmingham leaving from the airport Railway station. To get from Manchester Airport to Birmingham, you would need to take any train and change at Manchester Piccadilly.

The trains which run from Manchester Picadilly to Birmingham New Street leave approximately every half an hour and there are different prices but the cheapest seems to be £14 per person single. That is looking at current prices.

From Manchester Airport to Manchester Picadilly it is approx £3.20 single(cheapest fare) at the present time and the trains run every 5-10 minutes. (takes about 15-10 mins)

You can look at : www.thetrainline.com for train info and prices in the UK.

I didn't think DCL let you know until closer to the 45-75 day mark, but this is my first time booking DCL air. I remember asking when was the last day to cancel the DCL air, and I thought it was 75 days without penalty (perhaps 90 days on internation flights, but I can't remember) and that you could pay the air deviation fee up to 45 days out to get the exact flights you want. But it's probably best to look on the DCL website or ask your TA to be sure.

Here's what the Disney site says. Looks like travel plans will be posted by 45 days out, and international flights have to cancel by 90 days out.

Air Transportation

View your flight details within 45 days of your embarkation date by visiting My Online Check-In or by calling Disney Cruise Line directly at (877) 566-0967. Guests under age 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call.
After you've received your flight details, be sure to contact the airline by phone or via the airline's website to arrange your seat assignments and ensure the best seating for you and your family. You can also arrange special meal requests, receive frequent flyer information and make other airline related arrangements.
Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to designate any air carrier and schedule from each originating city offered. However, you can request specific airlines, flights, times, or other specific aspects of your air itinerary through our Special Air Request Department for an additional fee. To change the details of your flight, you are invited to complete and submit the Flight Modification Form available to you in My Online Check-In up to 45 days prior to your departing flight. Upon receipt of this form, a Disney Travel representative will contact you to discuss alternate flight arrangements, usually within 2 business days. For more information, please contact dcldeviations@email.disney.com.
As of June 2, 2009, changes such as gateway changes/cancellations, flight date changes and name changes/corrections are considered cancellations and applicable air cancellation fees will apply. Air taxes and fees are refundable. See the Airline Cancellation Fees table below for additional details.

Domestic air cancellation fees apply for sailings where both the embark and debark port are in North America. International air cancellation fees apply for all other sailing itineraries that include a cruise with embark or debark ports outside of North America.

Thanks again Sarah - you are a hero in our household! Our flights are booked $800 including the luggage.
They only took a $330 deposit with the balance due next July. My credit card is very relieved ;)
I tried to change our cruise booking to use DVC points - no luck. I`ll keep trying though - the thought of not paying cash for this cruise is music to Dh`s ears.
This evening I`ve got to transform myself into a tarty 1950`s police officer -a role I`ve got to play in our local theatre next week. The play is thankfully comedic. Give me strength :scared1:

Can I ask why you couldn't change your cruise booking to DVC points? I was able to do it just this past Sunday. :confused3

Hi Everyone! WOW - Looks like we are very late to the party!! We just booked the Western TA tonight! This was an upgrade to the 4 night cruise we had booked while on the magic this year... We are in cabin 8002 - anyone know anything about this room? We also found airfare for $650 all inclusive on AirFrance. We took care of getting "permission" to pull the kiddos from school (they are on vacation for 5 of the days, but the extra 7 we wanted to make sure it wouldn't be frowned upon), and they are excited - its going to be a very long 300 plus days until we sail!

So, being new to the boards, can someone fill me in on how we get involved with all the fun? Also, while DH and I are thrilled to celebrate our 18th anniversary on board, I worry about our kids (ds - will be 13 and dd will be 6). Can anyone fill us in on how they fill the days at sea?

Oh - and a request from our son - how do we get in on the FE fun? :tink: I cant wait to be able to pack and get underway!

Im not worried about the activities for my son - he will get over being shy pretty quick. My daughter is another story... She is painfully shy and wouldn't do the club unless she knew someone in there... I so hope that she is over that and can do the kid activities - she missed so much this last cruise!

My kids will have homework so I am way in favor of a homework or study group!!

In the meantime, I think I signed us up for everything!! It is going to be a long wait until we leave! On the plus side, we were able to get our airfare way cheap, so we are doing an extra day in Barcelona. We are staying on my points at the Holiday Inn (penny pinching a bit here...) but the TA through our office said that it was supposed to be safe, clean and most importantly we can ship a box over ahead of time, so we don't have to worry about the luggage restraints with Air France (1 23KG bag per person) or the liquid restrictions...

Sorry to go on and on! I am just so thrilled to be able to do this!!

If you want to join in with the Secret Mickey - check out the details on the website ( http://www.transatlanticpirates.com ) and then send me your details - I have taken over the Secret Mickey as the original cruiser has had to cancel this cruise - the website hasn't been updated yet - but PM me your details if you would like to join in with that.

Welcome Sue & family, I am Michael and DW (hotfudgesundae) is Trish.
I have a question regarding American Airlines that I hope some one can help with. What is the baggage allowance for internal flights in the States, I have looked at the web site 1st bag $20, 2nd bag $30, 3rd bag $100, is that the allowance each or in total. For 3 bags between the two of us would that be $150 or $50 for me checking 2 bags and then another $20 for DW checking the third total $70. Does that make sense or am I not reading it right
Thanks Michael

I am having a very productive day! Have just booked our Barcelona hotel for 2 nights prior to the cruise - after researching for simply ages and ages we have decided that will be staying here:

Anyone else staying here?

Wish I could be productive. DH employer finally put the vacation leave sheet out today. Should be able to have everything booked by this time next week if he gets all the time he's requesting:thumbsup2

Youre a real naughty noodle.;)

You will have to get off the cruise ship in barcelona and get back on. so i believe you will clear customs in barcelona then in port canaveral when you arrive in florida. The ship has to clear the port of entry upon arrival and i believe so does all the passengers. Hope that helps

Birmingham is about 90 miles away.

might be able to get bet the mco to jfk for a little cheaper around 99 a person

Walt and Di was on that cruise, we are the two inside the right rails. Heather's the blond in pink shirt on the right side of the steering wheel behind the sitting lady.

We had such an excellent group and enjoyed every minute meeting people thru out the ship day and night.
