Before the title of my trip report starts a huge debate, let me explain.

This was our third trip to Disney World in three years. On our first trip, we stayed at Shades of Green. While technically ON property, it is not a Disney resort and didn't really have the Disney feeling (at least to me). Basically, there were no towel animals. :sad1: But, the rooms were large and you couldn't beat the price. :thumbsup2

Our second trip took us completely off property to Windsor Hills. We LOVED staying there! So much space to move around, a splash pool all our own, and a quick and easy drive to the parks. :cool1: (Here's the link to my first PTR/TR - "Our 2nd Trip to Disney! Did It Measure Up?" (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1651833))

So - I asked myself - what was the big deal about staying on Disney property??? :confused3

This last trip was spur of the moment thanks to some great deals offered to military families by Disney. We were able to purchase our tickets at a great price and they gave us 40% off our room. That pretty much settled it for me - it was time to try staying on property and find out what all of the hoopla was about for ourselves!

The cast:

I'm going to keep the introductions simple. Most of you already know us, but if you don't and would like to find out more, feel free to read my PTR (do not be thrown by the word "camping" in the title :rolleyes1 ).

Me - Carissa - turned 35 on the trip

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww34/willtravelbyfoot/carissa.jpg

DH - Chuck - already 35 (he he he) and getting ready to do his first tour on board a ship

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww34/willtravelbyfoot/Picture475-1.jpg

Sullivan - 8 - my thrill rider

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/IMG_2856.jpg

Owen - 6 - the one I can always count on to pose with characters

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/IMG_2836.jpg

Connor - 4 - my shy one

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/IMG_2835.jpg

Stitch - our visitor for this trip (you can find out more about why he's with us in my PTR)

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/IMG_4389.jpg

The details:

We left Maryland on Friday, March 27th and returned home on Sunday, April 5th. Our plan was to stay at Port Orleans Riverside for seven nights. We were getting the five day basic park tickets and also taking advantage of the free entry to Sea World.

Now that all of that business is out of the way, we can get on to the trip! But, I'm afraid that will have to wait a bit longer. We just got home yesterday and I have lots to do to get caught up on life. I'm sure y'all understand. :rolleyes1

By the way, for those who may be new (please say "hi" as I love to hear from everyone!), my husband just received orders on board his first ship. He'll be leaving us at the end of next month for four months of school in Florida. The boys and I will most likely be moving to the Virginia Beach area sometime in June. And then Chuck will begin his tour on an aircraft carrier in September. I am sure this TR (if I can drag it out long enough :rotfl: ) will have mini-TRs about all of that. If you care to skip over non-Disney stuff, I always have links to installments right here on the main page.

Now, let's get this trip report started...

HI! Subbing to your TR. I am also 35 with three kids-but mine are all girls! princess:princess:princess:

I live in VA-not too far from Va Beach. The good news is that Va Beach still has a Disney Store! I'd be happy to answer any questions that I can about our area. Since I am on the other side of the water I don't know tons about Va Beach in particular, but I know lots about Hampton Roads in general since I've lived here my whole life.

I am already (secretly) plotting a second vacation in 3 years, and I'd like to stay on-property for that one. I'm hoping my DH will have so much fun on our trip in October that he will be excited about going back! :lmao:

Hi! Thanks for something new to read during my lunch hour:thumbsup2

This was our third trip to Disney World in three years. On our first trip, we stayed at Shades of Green. While technically ON property, it is not a Disney resort and didn't really have the Disney feeling (at least to me). Basically, there were no towel animals. But, the rooms were large and you couldn't beat the price.

A friend of mine just stayed here in February and absolutely loved it.

He'd be far more likely to agree to a cruise than going back to WDW anytime soon. I think he's Disney parked out. :sad2: But, a cruise - now there's an idea!

No worries, I can play the piano. ;) Wouldn't want Keith's efforts to be wasted.

Now the TR can officially begin cause you're here!

You should definitely call me Carissa. ;) The nickname Car was given to me by friends on another message board. There's a story behind the name, although I bet some of them don't even remember how it got started!

:welcome: I've seen you around! :goodvibes What are the ages of your children? I probably shouldn't tell you this, but having the third pushed me over the edge into insanity. :rolleyes1 I'm sure it had something to do with them all being only 2 years apart AND my youngest was not an easy baby or toddler. Things are much easier now. :thumbsup2

Yep, I think we haunt many of the same TRs! :)

My kids are 4 and a half, 3 as of tomorrow :scared1: and I am due in September with 3.0. The first two were planned and 20 months apart. That was rough, but I loved it. This one was unplanned and I can already feel that it's pushing me over the edge. Looking forward to reading more about your family vacation!

I'm sure as I get closer to 40 I won't care as much. A funny note that I'll probably forget to mention in my TR - I was getting my photo taken somewhere by photopass and I had a special birthday photopass card. The photographer asked who was celebrating a birthday and when I said me, he said, "You know in Disney World, you're allowed to add the two numbers together for your age so you can be 5 instead of 23." :rotfl:

I will be posting the start of the TR shortly!

~ March 27th, 2009 ~

Friday morning dawned and with it an excited Carissa woke up early. I had to get my last moments of internet use in before I had almost no access for the week! :rolleyes1

Because I'm such a great procrastinator, I had lots to keep me busy. :thumbsup2 I finished packing, picked up the house (don't you just hate coming home to a mess?), and brought Oreo to the kennel. Those of you who read my last TR might remember that when Chuck attempted to bring our cat Josie to the kennel last time, we ran into issues with her vaccinations and had to scurry last minute to find someone to watch her.

When I got to the kennel on Friday morning, they couldn't find her reservation. :scared1: Turns out that whomever put our reservation in the system booked us a year ahead - for 2010. :sad2: Luckily, it wasn't a problem and they were still able to take her.

Here she is oblivious to the fact that we'd be taking her to stay in a small, enclosed space for 10 nights. :rolleyes1

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2773.jpg

Having dropped Oreo at her kitty condo, I filled up the van with gas, and made my way home to begin loading up. Chuck, Connor, and I all ate some lunch and then it was time for me to head over to school to pick up Sully and Owen. :cool1:

Everyone took a final pit stop in the bathroom and then we were on our way! :cheer2: Here are the boys before piling into the van (don't mind the look on Sully's face - he really was excited):

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2858.jpg

We were on the road by 12:15 and thankfully - no need to turn around and get forgotten Gameboys on this trip! :worship:

Are we excited??? :hyper:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2859.jpg

I started out driving since Chuck was feeling tired (he blamed me for jumping on the bed around 6:30 to wake him up - :rolleyes1 ), but after a short while I developed a migraine. Chuck ended up doing the driving for the rest of the day. Thankfully there was very little traffic around D.C. and northern Virginia. :woohoo:

Look Ma! One hand!

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2861.jpg

And I had to take a picture of my freshly painted tootsies on the drive! Two hidden Mickeys! (I'm happy to report that my Mickey Heads stayed on for the entire trip. :thumbsup2 )

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2862.jpg

We made a few stops at rest areas (and it wasn't just for me this trip! Owen has developed quite a small bladder - he's so much like me) and encountered those new hand dryers. Have y'all seen them yet? They're very powerful and suck the water right off your hands! I really wanted to videotape myself using one just so I could post it here, but I kept forgetting my camera. It's funny to watch your skin being pulled as it dries. Yes, I'm easily amused. ;)

(Here is a video I found on youtube that someone took of the exact dryer I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87h1mn6Xkn4 )

Somewhere on 295 around Richmond, Virginia the traffic slowed down. We could see a police car in the front keeping everyone back and then a Black Hawk helicopter flew overhead. Chuck thought maybe the President was up ahead and they were keeping cars back for security purposes. :confused3

I'm going to leave you with this picture for now. The weather began to turn a bit for us and the rain started to lightly fall.

Yes! They vaccuum the water right off your hands! They're suppose to be better about getting rid of germs or something like that. I first encountered one last year on a trip into Baltimore, but I hadn't seen any since. Most of the rest areas on this trip had them.

Great trip so far! Haven't those hand dryers have been around for years? (well at least when I've traveled to Oregon & Florida and when I lived in WV 7 years ago and now in VA). Some restroom facilities have put back in the paper towels along with the hand dryers because some people complained about them. (My cousin owns a chain of restaurants and due to popular demand, he had to reinstall the paper towels along side the blow dryer one.)

I had to use one to dry my top in an airport back in 2003 when I spilled tea right before boarding a plane and I thought that thing was going to blow me across the room!! :lmao:

:rotfl: I love the guy in the video I linked to - he acts like his hands are going to be sucked into the dryer! :lmao:

After doing a little research, I guess these dryers have been around for quite a few years, but I think as everyone is trying to "Go Green" now, they're becoming more popular. According to the site I found, it only takes 10 - 15 seconds to dry your hands using one of these machines and it uses 80% less energy than the older hand dryers.

Wow - never knew we'd all learn so much about hand dryers in this report! :rolleyes1

No - there was nothing ahead that would cause the traffic to stop, which is why we think the police car was just keeping traffic back for someone or something up ahead. After just a short while, he pulled off and we were able to go normal speed again.

By the way, would you think it was strange to watch someone carry a camera into a rest stop bathroom? But as I am typing this, my camera is always around my neck when I go in the bathroom at WDW.

Well, the 30 days of leave are days he has saved up. They're not giving him extra time. But, we thought he had to report by May 22nd and didn't realize he had the option of showing up later. So, that works out well for us.

That's great to know Lessa! When I use to go to the beach, I'd find a place to park on one of the side roads off of the main strip. I hated how packed it always was. We'll definitely have to check it out. Do you know if there is a commissary at the Oceanic base? I can probably find out easy enough but just thought I'd ask the expert. ;) The place we'll probably end up living at is right next to it so that would be really convenient for me.

I said it might look odd - didn't say I wouldn't do it myself! :rotfl: I may have a picture from inside the bathroom at POR. :rolleyes1

I grew up in Mt Airy and loved it it use to be such a small town.. I guess its not that way anymore.. Haven't been back in 10 years or so..

I too was in the Navy stationed in Sunny San Diego on a ship. Also went to school in Pensacola FL for almost 2 years when i joined. Man those were good times :rolleyes1

I can't wait to hear about the roadtrip with 3 boys. I remember those LOOONG hours on 95 heading to the world.. Fighting with my brother the whole way. And just think the speed limit was 55 then :scared1:

Chuck got the official orders today! And it looks like they're giving him until June 22nd to report to school in Florida. He'll detach from here in May and then he can take up to 30 days of leave. This means he can be here for all three of the boys' birthdays AND help us move to Virginia before he leaves! :thumbsup2 That way he can get all of our electronic stuff set up for us. ;)

So, that means in just about 2 months we'll be moving! :scared1:

I am the electronics "geek" for the house and the "pack mule" for most excursions too. Eh.....its a living. ;) Lucklily they were fairly generous with the orders and the timing, so I could help with the moving and setting up in Norfolk (VA Beach more likely). Plus I wouldn't want to have Carissa suffer without Internet and HDTV, she can get a little grumpy! Just kidding...she is quite capable...she just gets a smidgen frustrated with all the cables and connectors.

Thankfully since the military hires packers/movers for us, it won't be too bad. The timing works out great with the boys school.

Hiya Chuck!

There used to be one right on the Oceanic base but a few years ago they built a nice new big one just down the street so it is not officially on the base but close enough. :thumbsup2

So, we were in Virginia and the weather started to turn on us. Around the time we began to get hungry and thought about stopping for dinner, the rain was coming down pretty good.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2863.jpg

Who can guess where we stopped to eat??? If you know me at all (or have read my other TR), you'll know the answer!

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2864.jpg

We always eat at Cracker Barrel when we're traveling. :thumbsup2 We stopped at one in Emporia, Virginia. We were seated immediately, but it took a while for our server to get to us. He was a nice guy, but things definitely took longer than normal for this meal. I think we were there for a total of an hour, which is pretty long for us. The restaurant wasn't very busy and we're fast eaters!

I took a couple of pictures while we waited for our food.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2865.jpg

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2866.jpg

Owen took this next one for me. I really wanted a picture, but was kind of embarrassed to take one.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2867.jpg

Finally our food arrived! :woohoo: Chuck and I both got one of their new skillets. I didn't get a picture of Chuck's, but I got the Chicken Mushroom Skillet - it was super yummy. :thumbsup2

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2868.jpg

With our bellies once again full, it was time to get back on the road! We crossed over the border into North Carolina. Hi Liz!! :goodvibes

The weather was getting worse. I think Stitch was getting a little worried.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2869.jpg

So was I! :scared1:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2873.jpg

Here is a short video I took when we were driving through the worst of the weather. It wasn't super bad - I only saw lightning once and it was mainly pouring rain. But, there was something very eery about the sky. Not sure how well you can hear me on the video.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/th_MVI_2874.jpg (http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/?action=view&current=MVI_2874.flv)

And then shortly after the rain stopped and it looked like this:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2877.jpg

I tried to take this next one because of the pretty blossoms, but it came out blurry.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2876.jpg

We drove for a little while enjoying the signage in North Carolina (the next installment will have more about those). Then up ahead we noticed what we always dread seeing on our trip - traffic stopped. :sad2:

We were right at the exit for Hope Mills so we decided to get off and see if we could find a way around. Immediately after exiting, we noticed lots of tree limbs all over the place, but it was only in a localized area. Once we got past a certain point, there was no damage. We immediately thought - tornado.

This is a picture I took when we got off the exit. I got a lot of reflection from the windshield so you probably can't make it out very well.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2878.jpg

Owen said he saw a couple of cars pushed up against a tree, but I'm not sure if that's true (seems totally plausible though!). We decided to just get back on 95.

There was lots of debris covering the on ramp and along 95. We were pretty sure we were seeing the path of a tornado. At one point you could see where it had been across the highway - then a bunch of trees along the median were damaged - and finally where it had crossed back over to our side. I decided to call my parents and see if they could tell me anything (I never thought to turn on the radio!).

They were able to find out that a tornado had indeed touched down repeatedly on that stretch of 95 and hit Hope Mills. :scared1:

I took this video shortly after talking to my parents the first time (they had more details when they called back later):

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/th_MVI_2883.jpg (http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/?action=view&current=MVI_2883.flv)

We eventually passed by this tractor trailer truck that had been turned over by the tornado (sorry the pictures aren't great - combination of a moving vehicle and me being in awe):

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2880.jpg

We found out later the driver was fine - thankfully no one was killed by the tornado.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2879.jpg

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2881.jpg

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2882.jpg

Can you see the small, orange light above? That was on the other side of 95 and was a fire. It was actually pretty large, but it's far away. That's how we could tell the tornado had started over there and crossed over.

We thought once we got past the truck that traffic would pick up again. But, it turns out there was another area where the tornado had touched down and they had to remove many huge trees from the road. When we got there they were all on the side of the road and again - it was just a truly amazing site to see. And even more amazing that no one had been hurt or killed!

We felt very lucky to have missed the tornado. And with all of the adrenaline rushing through my body, my migraine went away! :cheer2:

Here's a link I posted in my PTR about the tornado:

http://chatham.mync.com/site/Chatham/news/story/30770/hope-mills-residents-deal-with-tornado-aftermath/

Oh - and the reason for the title of this installment? On our last trip we encountered a pretty bad storm on our arrival day while we were at Magic Kingdom. I overheard a CM mention a tornado watch for the area and it totally freaked me out. There's just something about us and tornadoes!

Wow!!! That is super scary about the tornado! They are my WORST fear -- I just hate them or even the thought of them. Anytime we are under a tornado watch I just freak out, and if the sirens go off in our area, I almost throw up from fear. That tractor trailer on its side is unbelievable!

Cracker Barrel is a great place to eat -- in retrospect it was probably a good thing you were there so that you weren't on the road when the tornado kept crossing over.

The boys were watching a movie when we were going through the bad weather and were pretty much oblivious. By the time we told them that we were seeing the after effects of a tornado, they realized the danger was gone and I think they were in awe like me looking at the damage.

We found out later the driver was fine - thankfully no one was killed by the tornado.

Hello to a fellow squid. I spent about a total of 3 months in San Diego and was in school at Corry Station in Pensacola. San Diego is a beautiful place and has lots of cool stuff to do...but pretty expensive place for your own house. Pensacola is OK...to humid for me...I spent the summer there going through school. Nice to me you all.

Every time I go to a restaurant in Virginia I'm surprised to see that there is smoking allowed. I'm so use to Maine and Maryland being smokefree. Someone at CB did tell me that all of the new CBs have no smoking - regardless of the state laws.

(I know the updates are coming out quickly at the moment, but I'm anxious to get us to WDW. Once we do, I'll slow down a little bit.)

Having narrowly escaped the tornado (by the way, my notes say we sat for 45 minutes waiting for the road to be cleared), we continued on our way to Santee, South Carolina. On our last three trips, we've always spent the night in this town. Once you find something good, you stick with it, right? ;) Actually, the first Cracker Barrel we ever ate at was in Santee!

I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. First we needed to finish driving through North Carolina. And you know what that means, right? :confused3 Well, those of you who have driven down 95 or have at least read trip reports involving others who have know what I'm talking about.

It's the ever popular (and in your face!) Pedro and his South of the Border signs!

The signs really help to entertain me on the drive and this trip was no exception. I jotted down a few of my favorites to share with you (since I was having no luck taking pictures :sad2: ).

South of the Border - FREE! Air, Water, Advice

I am really curious to know what kind of advice Pedro is handing out. Parenting? Marriage?? Career choices??? :confused3

A little razzle, but a whole lotta dazzle!

And my favorite of the evening...

You're always a weiner at Pedro's.

Did Pedro really just call me a weiner?? :scared1:

Here's a bad picture I took of South of the Border as we drove past that night (it really is pretty to look at with all of the lights):

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2884.jpg

And this is what Owen and Connor were looking like about that time:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2885.jpg

I don't understand how they can sleep tilted over on their sides like that. :confused3

We finally made it to our hotel (Hampton Inn) at 10:15 - ten hours after we left the house.

I took a quick picture before putting the boys to bed:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2886.jpg

Connor looks a bit crazed in that picture (I think he was yawning.). :rotfl:

And Chuck modeling the flat screen TV:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2887.jpg

They let us sleep five in the room and had provided a roll away bed. We just pushed the table out of the way and put the bed there.

Now on to Day 2! :cheer2:

~ March 28th, 2009 ~

I woke up at 5 a.m. but managed to stay in bed until 6 when I finally got up and showered. I got online (had tried the night before, but was having issues) and posted here on the Dis and PMd y'all for addresses.

We headed downstairs for our complimentary breakfast. :thumbsup2 This morning there were fried eggs, sausage, and all of the normal breakfast stuff. Connor had a couple of muffins on his plate along with a banana and at one point he looked down, looked back up at me and said, "It's staring at me." :dance3: I guess he meant his food was making a face. The men sitting next to us got a kick out it. :rotfl:

Then it was time to get the van loaded back up again. Stitch must have been tired from our excitement the day before and our late night because he immediately found a place to nap.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2888.jpg

That's MY pillow he's sleeping on, by the way. I always have to bring my pillow along when I travel. I just wish on this trip I would have used a pillow case that I didn't care about losing. :rolleyes1

By 8 a.m. we had filled up the van with gas and we were on our way - to Disney World baby! :cool1:

You'll find out about the pillowcase eventually...

Yay! Update! I'm super glad you got all through the scary weather OK and that you made it to your hotel by a good sleeping hour. :)

I just read all about South of the Border over on Blues TR, it looks awesome!

Also, is that the same stitch as she had? Or do lots of people take their own stitch along?

Yes, that is the same Stitch that Heidi had with her. After Heidi, he got sent to Kathy and took a trip with her family. And next he's off to California! I need to work on that this weekend.

ok...I guess Im going to have to check out blue's trip report to find out what South of the border is. We have never driven to florida so I have never seen one. I thought you were talking about taco bell. :confused3:rotfl2:

Oh and I too bring my own pillow. I brought my own pillow to paris (mainly i wanted it for the insanely long plane ride) and i bring them on long car trips. And if my sheets are changed and put on by someone else and they put the wrong pillowcase on my pillow...then I have to switch them around. DH thinks I am nuts but I always like the green pillowcase for my main pillow and the white one for my other one. Thats not wierd is it?? :confused3

SOTB is a trashy-town all year round. We stopped there in August (twice) and even ate lunch there. What a mistake, but unfortunately it is a must stop for me. Too many memories of childhood trips to Disney to not stop and reminisce a little.

Look, I found a giant Pedro.

We were in South Carolina on our way to Disney World! :cool1:

We had an uneventful drive to Florida - thank goodness. I think we'd reached our excitement quota the day before.

We had lunch at Denny's - somewhere near Jacksonville. We tend to have bad luck with slow service whenever we go (which isn't often), but we were in and out pretty quickly this time.

We exited onto I4 and I had to check the temperature!

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2889.jpg

It actually read 91 at one point. It really didn't feel that hot. Maybe because there was low humidity that day and a nice breeze.

Shortly after getting onto I4, we passed by an accident (on the other side). There was a police car and a passenger car spun around. We thought it was probably a high speed chase gone bad. The traffic was backed up for miles while they were investigating the scene. I was so glad we weren't over there!

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2890.jpg

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2891.jpg

Shortly before getting to Orlando, Owen announced that he had to pee. He tends to wait until the last minute to tell us making it an emergency situation. I tried to get him to pee in a bottle :rolleyes1 but no can do. I had Chuck take the first exit. Then Chuck and I began to fight about where to go to find a bathroom and before we knew what was happening, we had to get on the turnpike - which cost us 50 cents. :sad2: The worst part is that it had us heading AWAY from Disney World! :headache:

After a couple of miles we came to a rest area and were able to take care of Owen's problem. And thankfully - this exit allowed us to go in either direction on the turnpike so we simply turned around. It cost us another 50 cents to get off and back onto I4. Can you believe it cost us $1.00 to pee???

With our bathroom needs cared for - we continued on our way. Before we knew it - we were seeing this happy sight!

We followed the signs to Port Orleans Riverside.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2894.jpg

When we got to the gate, Chuck showed his i.d. and said we were checking in. The CM said thank you and then he spoke those words I wasn't expecting to hear, "Welcome home!"

I guess I thought it was only at DVC resorts that they told you that. What a surprise! I was so surprised that I got a bit choked up. As we drove away I said to Chuck, "Did you hear what he said to us?" I don't think Chuck was quite as affected by those two words as I was. :rolleyes1

Chuck found a place to park and I decided to go check in by myself. I couldn't help smiling as I was immediately immersed in the Disney Magic.

And then all of those happy feelings came to a screeching hault as I walked in the doors and saw the long line that awaited me.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2895.jpg

The woman behind me said she'd stayed there many times and had never seen the check in line that long. :scared1: It was 3:30 so prime check in time and on a Saturday to boot. Oh well. I was at Disney World - I could handle it. :thumbsup2

I kept wondering if there was a separate line for people who had done online check in. But, all I saw ahead was a sign that said Online Check In with an arrow pointing the same place as regular check in. The woman in front of me was wondering the same thing, but we figured we might as well stay in line and see what happened as we got closer. I called Chuck and told him it was going to be a while so he might as well get the boys out and walk around.

Well, her husband eventually found out for us that there was indeed a separate line for online check in and it was very short (probably because most people didn't know it existed!). I recommend making sure to ask or look for those signs up near the desks.

I had to take this one while standing in line:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/carissanboys/Disney%2009/IMG_2896.jpg

I finally made it to the desk and had a very quick and easy check in process. I had requested building 16 or 18 and second floor. They gave us building 14 and second floor. I didn't bother asking to change it as I knew 14 was close to everything. It ended up being perfect for us.

The CM also gave me my birthday pin (the first of 3 I would receive):

I rounded up the rest of my gang and we made our way over to the parking lot for building 14. Took us a while to find our room - 1463. Want to see inside???

oh...the $1 was for the turnpike...at first I thought it was like when you are in europe and you litterally have to put coins in toliet so you can go. :rotfl: POR looks really nice. We stayed there in 1998 but i really don't remember it. We were there for my hs band trip so I didn;t stay at POR the whole time (thats where my parents stayed) and I only stayed with them after the band left...plus I was 17 and didn't really care about where we were staying. :rotfl: Now I care!;)

Ok I am back and ready to say

Chuck in the Navy yes? my Uncle was in the Navy for I think 15 yrs or more. He trained at Great Lakes IL, was in Guam, So Cal, Idaho :confused3 and back to IL in the end.

He toured on a ship during the Gulf War Blessings to you and your family during that time and the move ahead :goodvibes

Sullivan great name!

Oreo is cute. My parents had 2 black & white cats awhile back and as a kid I had a B &W pet mouse named Oreo and a tan one named Cookie....

Nice Toes and I have those same Cleo Crocs too.

DH's posting I don't know if mine would post but he definetly suppoerts my "addiction" :rotfl:

Cracker Barrel haven't been to one in years, I always wanted those rockers in front of my home.

Tornado holy cow I am so glad you guys were OK!
rain and wind on the Highway is no fun...I remeber driving out of Ashville NC down the mountains in stuff like that where you couldn't see squat and narrowly missing some car accident and cars serving off the road...scary I agree

This is one long TR already....I have some catching up to do on mine....I posted at #143 on page 10:chat:

SOTB rest stop I've seen that on the Travel Channel...I actually think I want to see that if we're ever traveling that way....or do I?;)

Pillow DH needs to bring his pillow too and we fly....(now on road trips I admit I bring mine too)

Phibbles's ticker just had to shout out that I love your title "sweatin with Mickey" so true in those summer months I did my fare share last June

WDW welcome sign Isn't that the best site to see? We applauded on the DME bus when we passed under it...my Mom & I started it!

Check-in wow that is a ton of people checking in, CSR was like a ghost town compared to that...glad you found the pre-check-in line though.

Your room I think we stayed in blding 15 when we stayed there in 05 on the 2nd floor. I bet you loved those double sinks!

Nice pin! Happy post birthday glad to be part of the '74 club:grouphug:

Looking forward to more fun and hearing about your Disney week!

Sullivan great name!

Thanks! All of the boys' names are of Scottish/Irish decent. We actually came up with the name Sullivan after driving through Sullivan, Maine.
