Hi Everyone! Thank-you to everyone for lots of info I had stored in my head for no apparent reason until this past Christmas! We live 2239 miles from Disneyland in Prince Rupert British Columbia. In December we were to fly from our home town to Puerto Vallarta but because of the worst storms in 40 years we spent Chistmas in a hotel room in Anahiem Ca. Howard Johnsons that was! With 3 cancelled flights and 2 rental cars we spent Christmas at Disneyland could have been alot worse; could have been the only other city Alaska Airlines were offering us flights to Phoenix Az! I have been a "lurker" on your board for about 2 years having never really thinking were were going to plan another trip to Disney but I am addicted to travel and travel forums so often I would read about others trips and suggestions; our trip turned out quite good except for missing our friends who made it to Mexico!

I am 16,550 miles (25,638km) from Disneyland.

We were just there in January and I made the most of it because it will probably be 5 years before we get back there again. It costs so much for the airfares that you try to fit in whatever you can while you are there. We went to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Disneyland, San Diego and Los Angeles in four weeks. It was a wonderful holiday, but quite busy. Living in Perth we can't just take a short trip to anywhere. A common saying over here is "it's a packed lunch and water bag trip", and that's just to visit the countryside. To get to another city it is a couple of hours' flight or a day or two driving. I love living here, but I wish it was easier/cheaper to visit places.

I haven't done a trip report yet, as things were kinda hectic when we got back (I'm a teacher and school started), but with school holidays coming up I may get one done then. We stayed at Camelot Inn and Suites and although it wasn't 'wonderful', it was fine for what we wanted to pay (with 30 nights accommodation to cover) and the location was PERFECT! I was also very impressed with how clean the rooms were kept.

I may also do a trip report for other locations - I LOVED Las Vegas!!!:yay: Stayed at The Paris, LV and couldn't have asked for better accommodation. Mind you, if we had the money I suppose you could convince us to stay at The Bellagio, or perhaps one of the newest places being built on the strip. May have to save a bit harder for the next trip.:rolleyes1

For me it said 7504.1miles, however I am sure when I get my frequent flyer points it is around 12000(ie about 12000 miles).

Apparently the regular google maps uses driving instructions so you have to find a place to take your kayak into the water and that is why it is a trip up the coast to Seattle then out the sound then down to Hawaii but no explanation why they could not go viz north Australia and skip Japan. Also I tried Hawaii as a layover and it said no way, lol.

that is what you get when you try to drive on water. I have had too many spin outs while trying to drive on water and even damaged an axle once.

OK people, when I started this thread I thought it would be kind of weird. I honestly didn't think people would divulge their whereabouts. But, you know it turned out to be the most fun I've had since planning our family DL trip in May.

The kids and I are going to turn this into a geography lesson (we homeschool). Just another fun reason to explore our world. We have many places to look up and explore in our great nation, our neighbor *upstairs*, exciting Europe, the middle east (which we are studying the ancient history of right now), the awsome Aussies, the kiwi's of New Zealand and someone even chimed in from Russia!!!! Hi Everyone! Thank-you to everyone for lots of info I had stored in my head for no apparent reason until this past Christmas! We live 2239 miles from Disneyland in Prince Rupert British Columbia. In December we were to fly from our home town to Puerto Vallarta but because of the worst storms in 40 years we spent Chistmas in a hotel room in Anahiem Ca. Howard Johnsons that was! With 3 cancelled flights and 2 rental cars we spent Christmas at Disneyland could have been alot worse; could have been the only other city Alaska Airlines were offering us flights to Phoenix Az! I have been a "lurker" on your board for about 2 years having never really thinking were were going to plan another trip to Disney but I am addicted to travel and travel forums so often I would read about others trips and suggestions; our trip turned out quite good except for missing our friends who made it to Mexico!

The leaves on maple trees turn RED. :goodvibes And the summer is nice too, because it's never that hot and never that humid, with our beautiful Green Mountains and Lake Champlain (recent history lesson for your kids - for a few weeks a few years ago, Lake Champlain was officially classified by the federal government as the 6th great lake - it is the 6th largest because it's deep, but nowhere near the scale of the other 5 if you look at it on a map).

But we pay for it in winter. :rotfl2:

I would LOVE to live so close to Disneyland that I could have an AP and just go because I felt like it, or had a few hours to spare, or wanted to pick up a Disney snack, or wanted to just wander for a while, or.... I could go on and on. Some of you are VERY lucky and I am VERY envious!!!!

I actually mentioned to hubby one day that I wondered whether there were many teaching jobs available in southern CA. The look on his face was "interesting" to say the least.:scared1: He was shocked and really trying to work out if I was serious. Sadly, I was just musing, because I had already read that teachers were being laid off all over the place over there, so my chance of getting a job was next to none. It was lovely to dream for a second or two though. I'm not sure hubby agrees though.:eek:

Norwalk is a city of 100,000 or so people located between the 5, 91, 105, and 605 freeways. The city dates back to about the 1880's but not sure about that. Original name was North Walk and was an important depot on the railroad at one time. Used to be dairies and fruit trees out here. Also home to a giant toxic site known as the Tank Farm which used to house jet fuel and has leaked so much fuel that at times it is over 20 feet thick. I miss the grainary with its beer like smell permeating the air.

Not famous for much other than used for movies sometimes.

Wait, Norwalk California? I'm in Artesia!

Artesia is a nice little town that was founded on artesian wells and by Dutch and Portuguese/Azorean dairymen. Eventually Asian businesses moved in and made the town a little India. The ethnic diversity makes it a wonderful place to shop and visit as far as I am concerned. My AAA office is there and Artesia is right next to Dairy Valley, oops, Cerritos. Samosas are good but I am not a big veggie fan. A gift from some nice people whom I helped get a temple in Norwalk. The scariest thing about Artesia is the shops that remove hair with thread, EEK.:scared1:
