Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Nothing fancy to report this week. I did 3.1 miles today but with 2 one minute walk breaks. Planning to keep trying til I can do without the walks. I am pretty happy that I'm consistently working out 5x weekly, 3 days running, 1 day biking, 1 day at Y with weights and stationary bike. XT has been a struggle, but seems to be coming together now.
Sk8ingmom...I remember you! Didn't you do the inline marathon one year? DH is trying to get back into inline racing!
Lily...:wizard: for you. I hope this week's run was less eventful than last.
Christa's here!
Good training everyone!

Tracy: Love the pics.
Lily: It was definitely a nice running day up here today. Congrats on the 10 + 2. Hope everything heals up for you and see you in Nashville (are you joining us at the spaghetti factory?).
I just got back from a nice 5.5. Like Lily said it was a great running day/night up here. 2 weeks of training and one week of tapering left for the Country Music Marathon/Half.

So I'm slow. But Dead Last Finish yada yada yada.
I'm in decent aerobic shape, but running has always eluded me. At least I'm trying!
I did my last Couch to 5K week 1 workout yesterday - 2.3 miles in 31:19 for a pace of 13:38...21 seconds per mile faster than my first workout on Monday!
Today I'm cross training - playing hockey with my boys.
Sk8ingmom...I remember you! Didn't you do the inline marathon one year? DH is trying to get back into inline racing!
I never had the chance to do the in-line marathon. You probably remember me ranting and raving when they canceled it. I had been looking forward to it for YEARS! When it started, I was a SAHM-full-time-grad-student, so my life didn't have enough flexibility to either train seriously or travel in May. THEN we moved to Alaska where it was impossible to in-line skate in the spring and a major undertaking to get to Orlando (we were closer to Disney Tokyo!). So, we moved to VA in 2007 and I was so excited about finally being able to do the WDW in-line marathon in 2008. Yep, that was the year it was cancelled.

Tracy, Your hoping must have worked because there was perfect running weather today!
I did 11 miles in just under 1hr 32 minutes (just better than an 8:30 pace). It was a gorgeous 55 degrees and Sunny and I now feel really ready for my first half. Hard to believe it's only four weeks away. I feel like the training between now then is for improvement and that I'm already at a respectable completion.
Can't wait for tomorrow's home opener! Go Sox!

:cool1: This past week I did 26 miles, 12 alone on Saturday as I continue my training for the Derby Festival 1/2 in Louisville on April 25th. I will start tapering this next week. I did sign for the DL 1/2 this past week. I want that coast to coast medal. Can't wait!!!!

Yo ho WISHers.
Got out for my long slow run today. 13 miles, estimated 1:58. My Garmin battery died around mile 10, so just have to guess on my time. :lmao:
Off to Girl Scouts, astronomy day at University of Hawaii.
Have a good Sunday everyone.

Sunday Greetings!
Worked a water stop at the Martian Marathon today--but not where I thought I would be. I was on the full course. However, I did get to see Carrie, Scott and Margie before the race started.
Power surge/outage at home this a.m. fried my oven. The best I can tell--the replacement part alone costs $300-$350!:scared1:
Rest day for me--although I should have gone swimming, but just too tired. I am not in a rhythm for training right now.
Mel Great progress on your running. Sounds like you'll be running the whole way in no time.
sk8ting mom WTG for finishing your first week of the C25K program. I wonder who invented it. It certainly seems to produce great results for the WISH'ers who have used it.
wellesleyprincess I second your Sox cheer. As a native Massachusettsian (a mouthful!) I will alwys root for the Sox. It's in the blood. Wish I was home tomorrow because I think the game is on ESPN.
goofy57 and Jeff I'm starting to think abut the DL 1/2, too. Aargh! Just don't know.

Hello everyone!
I was really bad, and didn't post at all last week. We went on vacation yesterday to beautiful Captiva Florida, and my son's eighth grade play was Friday night before we left, so my week was really, really crazy. :scared1: I mean scary crazy! I didn't do one minute of running or any other exercising.
However, I am very excited about doing some runs here. It is so amazingly beautiful. I will be posting some pictures on Facebook and (hopefully) my blog at some point this week. I'll try to post pics here as well, but might not get to it. Right now we're all just concentrating on relaxing.
By the way, my son's play was incredible. There are only 6 in his class from our little Waldorf School in Philadelphia, and their play was a real culmination of their educational experience. They did Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid, and did an absolutely amazing job. Will had the lead part, and was on stage about 96% of the play. The amount of lines he had to memorize was unbelievable, and I am so proud of him!!! We also found out this week that he got into Central High School (a magnet school in Philadelphia) so it has really been Will's week.

Yeah, I can't wait :sad2:. I just want to put my coat away for the year already.
Jeff: I'd say sorry about the watch but I just can't feel sorry for anyone running around Hawaii. :goodvibes Are you coming on the podcast cruise? I think someone (probably Deb) mentioned you might be.
Kira: Glad the vacation and play went well.. Only 6 in his class? Are you secretly living in the Little House on the Prairie Kira Ingalls Wilder?
I decided to go out and do the same route as yesterday to try to knock some time off. I managed to get 48 seconds off and felt pretty good so I'm still feeling good for Nashville.

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:
The mixer starts here... (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31190831&postcount=638)
Variety is the spice of life, so they say. (But don't ask me who they are, although I suspect they work for McCormick. :confused3) With that in mind, this week's mixer question is:
What types of XT do you like to do, and why? What are your old favorites and new discoveries? What kind of XT would you like to try?
Anecdotes and pictures are welcomed. I think we'd really like to hear about the benefits of your XT--physical, mental, social. Does it create a stronger core or more flexibility? Does it help you de-stress? Is it something you enjoy with your kids, partner, friends? It might also be helpful to know how you work XT within your walking/running schedule.
Extra points for XT activities that are unusual or have funny names or rituals. As determined by popular vote. And in case you're wondering, those points have no monetary value whatsoever. (I'll make up other disclaimers as I think of them.)

Jeff: Are you coming on the podcast cruise? I think someone (probably Deb) mentioned you might be.
We're doing the Disney Wonder in January, just before marathon weekend. I'll have to either run on the dreadmill, or laps around the deck, plus Castaway Cay to burn off all the food I am anticipating.
If y'all miss me this week, I'll be at the Masters on Wednesday for the practice round and Par 3 contest. 20 years of applying for tickets, and I finally got selected in the lottery.

Hi everyone :) May I join in? My name is Maggie, I'm a former competitive swimmer trying to run. My goal is the Princess 1/2 next year, I figure I can get up there in a year :) Right now I'm running/walking a little over 2 miles in 30 minutes. I've been "training" for about 3 weeks now, after almost a year of no exercise due to a really bad injury!

Oh Jeff, I could never do a race after being on the Disney Cruise. I eat too much and my laps on deck 4 are just to prepare for the next of the 6 meals I eat everyday on the cruise. Not to mention the chocolate chip cookies and the ice cream bar and....you know. Hope you have a great cruise.
Well after that knee pain last week, I spent 3 days on the elliptical and Saturday I walked easy and walked 8 holes of golf (I live on the 11th so I skipped #10). Today back on the TM for 5 miles at an easy pace-about a 9:30 pace. No pain. Yea!

04-06-2009, 04:00 PM
I'm behind on the weekly thread! Oops, how did that happen?
Brandie: Good job taking it easy after overdoing the run and getting shin pain. I find it really difficult to do so, and always regret not listening to my body. How are your shins feeling, btw?
Tracy: Woo hoo on getting an unexpected compliment (Mount Trashmore). I'd float on air after a moment like that. How is your back these days? P.S. Love the beach pictures.
Shan: Congratulations on getting the green light to run again. I can't believe it's already been six weeks. I hope the return to running is smooth and easy.
Christa: Wow, that's a fast 8 miles--especially in the heat. Hugs to DD. Sounds like strep is going around.
Jackie: You had about the near-perfect day. A great 10 miler, gait analysis, new shoes (to match your old ones) and at a discount!
Laurel: Great 10 miler and on a difficult course! Your half marathon sounds challenging too, but it sounds as if you've been training for it!
Mel: Your schedule is great--you're managing to hit your running and XT goals with all the other demands on your time. Only 2 one-minutes walking breaks for your 5K. You'll eliminate those in no time. (Can't say the same for me. Me likey the walky. :rolleyes1)
Sk8ingMom: Welcome! I must have missed your arrival--re-arrival! I love the idea of a 1/10 IM. Yeah for completing your first week of C25K. You've got a great time--faster than I was when I started. :worship: Congratulations, I think, for moving to VA where you can in-line skate/train. (Although I see from you're from Alaska, so I hope the move away wasn't too traumatic.)
Lily:  for your 10 miles and for finding your mojo. I know tha chronic pain can really affect everything in our lives, and hope your treatments are easing yours. I'm glad you have CMM to look forward to, and good luck on the event. And give Kirby a treat for me. He's a great training partner.
Frank: No pressure on the 2010 marathon--just know your presence/absence would be noted. :goodvibes How are you feeling about your training? And your taper is a week long? (I tend to do that because I tend to come in undertrained.) Is this your personalized Frank's Fun Run training plan? ;) Oh, and my apologies for putting Jeff on the wrong cruise. Maybe I just think ALL his trips are Disney related? And there's got to be other people on the podcast cruise...maybe Erica or Mousewalker Dave. (Hmmm, does Debra just have a good, if occasionally faulty, memory or is she a creepy stalker?)
Jennifer: WTG with the 11 miles. Respectable completion? You're doing much better than that. But notice how I don't ask you about that super-secret goal. 4 weeks gives you plenty of time to refine your race-day strategies, not to mention picking your lucky outfit. (I kid you not...I obsess about race-day wear.) I'm so proud of how smart you've trained. Not just fast, but smart. (Thinking about how you listed to your body and took it easier over spring break, for instance.)
Goofy57: Congrats on your week's training, esp. your 12 mile LR. And--grumble, grumble--congrats on pursuing the C2C medal. Green with envy, I am, and not lime green. :upsidedow
Aloha Jeff: Nice run and pace (est. of course). You must have fueled on ice cream or Thin Mints. I think you can run faster, though. :rotfl2: Astronomy day sounds really, really cool. I can see why you're a Girl Scout, er, leader.
Maura: Thank you for volunteering at the Martian. And how cool to see Carrie, Scott, and Margie! Are you doing okay with your tri training? You even sound a little tired. :flower3:
Kira: Well, your week sounds both exciting and exhausting! I do hope you get a chance to relax. And I just have to say that Will's theater experience? Moliere? Wow. Funny but tough to do. And I remember your DD's participation in the Jane Yolen ballet. Your kids have had some truly exceptional educational/artistic experiences.
Maggie: Welcome! :welcome: You're off to a great start. Competitive swimmer, huh? You probably have the shoulders and back muscles I would like to have.
Joan: I'm glad to hear your knee pain has subsided and that you took it easy to test it out. :thumbsup2 (Easy for YOU, that is.)
As for me: Not a lot of new stuff to report. Running on Saturday along with strength training; XT Sunday, along with doing taxes; XT today, along with my birthday. So far, though, no ice cream, cake or bourbon today. What's wrong with this picture.... :confused3 I think that needs to rectified. Immediately!

Kira: Glad the vacation and play went well.. Only 6 in his class? Are you secretly living in the Little House on the Prairie Kira Ingalls Wilder?
LOL - not Little House on the Prairie! The school is only 13 years old, and his class is only our 4th graduating class. The classes coming up (after next year's) are much larger. It's a really great school, and all my kids are getting a wonderful education there. Most 8th grade classes do a full Shakespeare production (previous classes did Twelfth Night and Midsummer's Night Dream), but their class was too small for that so his teacher picked Moliere instead!
I went running today in Florida, and the humidity kicked my **** - not used to it yet! Also, I think I did something to my back yesterday when I was fooling around in the surf, and it really started to bug me. But it was sooo beautiful to run along the ocean that it was worth it. Got the steps in anyway!

Debra Thank you and Happy Birthday! It so nice to be in the refinement mode at this point. I'm volunteering two weekends before my race at the Boston Marathon and know that will give me the final inspiration I need.
Pretty usual monday for me. 1 hr dance rehearsal and 1 hr strength training class. Sadly it's been pouring down rain all day so no Red Sox home opener.

Debra: Yes, I was floating a bit on clouds over at Mount Trashmore when I got that compliment. And thanks for asking about the back. I rested it a bit over the weekend and was feeling good. Today at work it started to bother me a bit more. I am off tomorrow and have a Chiro appt., so should help out.

Jeff: I guess coming all the way from paradise to Florida it makes sense to get the cruise and marathon in all at once. You might be interested in this (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1982771) thread on the cruise forum. I hope someone is still doing the run on Castaway Cay.
Debra: What I usually do is some short and slow runs the week of the half just to make sure there are no pending aches and to remind the legs that a lot will be asked of them shortly. You know, if you have a bourbon ice cream cake you could get all 3 done at once. Check out the Stars schedule (http://www.clevelandcitystars.com/pro-team/schedule) and let me know when we can go catch some real football.
We had some snow last night so I just hit the gym and will be going home to watch the Champions League games tonight. I just do some core work in front of the TV. It is the age of multi-tasking. :thumbsup2

Morning all, things are as they usually are here. Took 2 days off for my shin, it felt much better so did a hard, fast 4.5 miles on Sat. Took Sunday for a rest day, then did hills last night and pickups this morning. I guess I stepped wrong, so now my ankle is sore. So there is now a full dose of RICE on my plan for today.
I am suppose to do an easy 2 miles tomorrow night, then pace for 5 miles on Thurs and a 5K this Sat. we will see how this goes. It is spring break here so the kids will drive me nuts I am sure. Yesterday it was rollerskating ( I am sore in places that I forgot about) then Mc Donalds and today it is cold and rainy so inside day. :confused3 Oh well only 2 more days of this till camp starts for the rest of the week.

Maggie: Welcome! I swam D3 in college and played water polo when I transferred to a D1 school. I really miss it. I need to get myself up earlier to get to the pool in the morning and start getting some swimming in a few times per week.
Debra: Congrats on you son getting into Central! I had a few people in my law school class who went there.
Tonight will be the last day of W3. Tomorrow, maybe hopping on the bike at the gym or swimming. After I return my sneakers and get a new swimsuit.

All night and day travel. I've arrived at Augusta, GA for Wednesday's practice round and par 3 tournament at the Masters. 4,000+ miles, and going to be sooooooo worth it!
A bit chilly this afternoon when I got here, and had a short snow flurry in Atlanta as I was driving out of the rental car agency.
Stood at the gate at Magnolia Lane. Guard was way cool, and took my picture for me, since I was by myself.
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg92/mkymsehi/100_0157.jpg
Gary Player and Luke Donald drove out the gate while I was standing there. Gave them a shaka, and they waved back.

Jeff, Glad you had a safe trip.
Swmr359, I did competitive swimming until high school and my favorite event/best event was the 100 Fly.
As for me today. Tried to run at lunch, but my body could handle it (it wanted lunch first), so ran between work and dinner. Did 4.5 miles in 35 minutes (slightly better than 8 minute miles) and then met my friends for an hour Zumba class.
Best,

Well I guess the only cross training I do is teaching swimming lessons... treading water while talking and/or holding a child wears you out:rotfl:

Just got back from a nice 10 miler which will be my longest pre-CMM run. I was about 10 seconds off race pace so I am feeling good. I'm at that point where I make sure I don't step weird on anything and twist an ankle this close to the race.

Been there done that! Where are you in VA? I'm in Alexandria.
I need to get back in the pool. I'm signed up for three triathlons this summer. I love swimming once I'm there. It's the getting there part I've been having problems with the last 2 weeks.

Don't know why this thread's been so dead this week...
Anyway,
Thursday I did speedwork 9 x 400 top speed equalling a 6:30 mile and low speed about a 7:20.
Yesterday, was a rest day, and I went and saw Hannah Montana the Movie.
Today, did 5 miles in just under 39 minutes (7:45 pace) and now am off to Target to finish off the Easter baskets.

Threads are a bit slow right now it seems, most people seem to have some LTO or WTO or just not training for much right now.
I did a 10K this morning in Boca Raton. I think summer is here in South Florida. We tend to skip right over Spring and just head right into Summer with full force.
Don't have official time yet but it was somewhere around 1hour 18min.

Hey WISHers!
Back from Hilton Head late last night. Had some rain, cold, wind and then finally some sun. :yay: Girls got a little beach and pool time before we had to leave and I still managed to get a little sun burned. :rolleyes1
Hope everyone has been well since I left. Apparently the time has come for us to get with the real world and get a laptop and/or cell with email cause we missed some important emails while gone. :headache: So maybe next time we go out of town I'll be able to check in. :surfweb:
So the big news is I ran for the first time since my surgery six weeks ago. It was tough, but I did it. My face was red as fire each time I finished. Very scary looking! :scared: So here's my runs -
Monday - 2 miles / 22:34 / pace -11:17
Tuesday - 2 miles / 22:41 / pace - 11:21
Thursday - 3 miles / 32:25 / pace - 10:48 :woohoo:
Also, got in some bike time following my daughters riding to and from the beach. :goodvibes
Monday - 3 miles / 40 minutes
Wednesday - 3 miles / 40 minutes
Thursday - 3 miles / 40 minutes
Sooo, I'm back in the game. :yay:
