Hello I am Lisa, 25 stay at home mom/wife with a 4 yr old and still have the BABY fat.... Okay its just FAT! My DH is of course a stick and doesn't understand.
We went to WDW last yr <9/08> and have been looking back at my pictures as I plan our next trip for FREE DINING (like I need free food).
And realized I need to get healthy not just to look better outside but inside. I have recently realized I am unhappy with how I look and how feel!
So join me as I try to lose a safe amount of weight (my ups and my downs) to look good next to Mickey & Minnie, and everyone else>
My current weight 183lbs.
My current BMI 31.4
My goal date 9/17/09
My goal weigh 143lbs
My goal BMI 24.5
That is 2lbs a week!
Join me if you wanna!
Live, Laugh, and Love!
The below picture is from last year's vacation to WDW I am mostly the same size.

I know exactly how you feel. The last time I went to WDW I was a little over 200 pounds! That was in 2005. It was my pictures from WDW that made me want to lose weight and started me on my journey. Over the past 2 years I have lost 68 pounds thanks to weight watchers and plenty of exercise and I feel so much better. We have a trip planned for May and I want to try to recreate some of the pictures to really see a good before/after effect.
You can do it, just take it one day at a time. If you have a bad day, just track it and move on. Don't let a bad day become a bad week, bad monh...etc. If you have not tried weight watchers, you should go to a meeting and give it a shot. I really think it is the best way to lose weight It wont be the fastest but I think it is the best program for keeping the weight off once you lose it.
Good luck and have a great time at WDW.

I have a picture in my head of what I look like and when I saw my pics from the last WDW trip, well it didn't match. I understand where you are coming from. I'm not on WW or any other program, I'm trying the sensible, you shouldn't put that cake in your mouth plan. So far I'm feeling a little better. I've started walking the dog more and longer. ( he could lose a couple LBS too) Good luck to you.

Thanks for stopping by sorry took so long to reply. I did actually try it once but the meetings are at bad times here so I just follow the point system just never check in :sad2:. I have been trying very hard to stop drinking any coke and only drink water, milk, and my caffine free spledna sweeten tea. Talk about caffine withdraw:headache: major major :headache:.
Which is why it took so long to check in. I have also been trying to have one piece of sugar free candy about 3pm and 9pm those are about the times I crave somethign sweet to snack on. And if I want more than just a piece of candy i have a bag of those 100 calorie cookies/pop corn popcorn::I LOVE POPCORN popcorn:: MmmmmPOPCORNpopcorn::
Anyhow thanks for the support and advice

It's time to stop lieing to myself. :rolleyes1 Count me in too!! I saw the pics from our trip in Dec '07 and I can believe that I "let" myself go to that extreme. I have not tried WW but I did try Nutrisystem. I actually lost about 20 lbs in two months but unfortunately some of it has been put back on. So..I did the unthinkable and I signed up and joined an exercise club. It is a bootcamp for women only. I've been going for a couple of months now and I love it. The trainer also counsels us on nutrition. It's not a "diet" (I hate that word). He directs us in what is healthy and acceptable. Obviously, no sodas...water is the key. When you can no longer take the water, add a crystal light flavor packet. It makes all the difference in the world! Snack time: think almonds, yogurt, or a piece of fruit. These small changes will make a huge impact. Good Luck! :woohoo:

:surfweb:Hi Lisa: I am with you. I know you can do it:thumbsup2. Think positive and never give up on your dream. I did it back in 2000 after I had my first DS my weight was 225 pounds. I lost over the course of a year almost 100 pounds. I went down to 129 and felt great. People didn't even recognize me. I watched what I ate and did a lot of walking and exercise bike at home. Then I got pregnant with my second DS and have been struggling ever since. I have a thyroid condition and sometimes if my meds aren't working it makes it hard to lose. But with an upcoming trip to WDW Aug 23-30 I just have to give it my all. Because I want to be healthy and feel good. I now weigh 175 and am trying to lose 2-3 pounds a week. I have been counting calories and exercising. I know I can do it and I know you can. I am also a stay at home mom and I am turning 43 in May. I have 2 DS's (11) and (6) and they keep me very busy. But hey I am using that to lose the pounds. FYI make sure you have your Thyroid checked. It's a simple blood test. I was always over weight and never knew I had it. Until my primary doctor took a blood test. I have been seeing a specialist for years now and it goes up and down, but lately it has been great. I am just happy with diet & exercise to be able to lose weight. Good Luck:cheer2:.

I'm with you, I need to lose the baby fat as well. I have 2 children; dd 6 & ds 3 (so I guess my isn't baby fat either:lmao:) & I have let my self goooooooooo BIG TIME. I gained somewhere between 45 to 55 lbs with my dd & lost every pound & more & I kept it off until I got pregnant with my ds. I only gained about 25 lbs with him & I lost it as well. The problem is that I started "stress eating" around September when we heard rumors that my dh would be laid off of work. DH was laid off November 6th & the pounds have just kept coming...I'm now 10 lbs less than I was the day I delivered my ds!:scared1: I can't believe I let this happen!!!!!! I just couldn't put the food down, I've NEVER had a problem walking away from food, but now I just can't help myself. My coworkers & I have started doing weight watchers together. We don't go to meetings, we help each other with points, we're teachers we can't afford to pay someone to weigh us & tell us we need to lose more weight, we can do it for each other & it's free! I've lost about 5 lbs in a month, which I guess is good, but I'm starting to get frustrated! Anyways, long story short, count me in. I need some motivation & help! Hopefully I will have lost 25 lbs for my upcoming Disney trip in October!

I am using a website called Setting Captives Free that is 60 online bible based lessons on losing weight. It's hard hitting truths and I began at 169 and I now weigh 157. So it does work and best of all it's free!!!
I'm only fun size--5'2" so I can't carry much extra weight very well! I'd like to loose another 10 by our vacation and I know that I would do better if I had support from like minded Dis-ers!
Let's go girls!:cheer2:

Apprenantly you email a photo of yourself and they shrink you so you can see what your results will get you.
My sister did it and had 3 copies of her pic made and she put one on the fridge one in her bathroom and the other in her locker at work!
Gonna try :confused3, I'll let ya know

I love how you guys call yourself "fun size!" Now, I'm trying to figure out what to call myself..I'm only 4'11, so would I be the mini-fun size?:rotfl: Anyways, it's Monday & I need to get the week off to a good start, won't be easy, I had early duty this morning (had to be at school at 7:00 AM) & we have open house, won't get to leave school until 6:00 PM. That means NO excercise today! I'll have to make up for it tomorrow!
Have a good day girls!

That's my current diet Motto. Been dieting just over a month, and so far only lost 2 pounds, but I'm still at it. GOt lots of time before September. Trying to increase the amount of walking I do each week so even if I'm not getting lighter, I should be in better shape to survive 6 full days at the parks!
I gave up the 6 c's for lent (Candy, Cookies, Cake, Ice Cream, Chips, Caffine) so that's been a good help to get me thinking about what I need to give up while still allowing myself an occassional indulgence (Like a cinnamon roll on Sunday!)
My starting weight: 228 lbs
Current weight: 226 lbs
Walking Goal: 90 minutes a week
Tuesday : 04/07/09 - 23 minutes complete 225 lb
Thursday: 04/09/09 - 30 minutes complete 225.5 lb
Friday Goal: 30 minutes

:wizard:Good Morning Ladies: I love the names fun-size and mini-fun size. I am under fun-size. I am 5'2" and when you think about it if I was taller I wouldn't be over weight...ha, ha:rotfl2:. I went to the store this morning had to get a new supply of weight watchers ice cream:thumbsup2. Just love that stuff. I normally have one a day after lunch. I was so happy this morning to step on the scale and though I didn't lose any more weight I didn't put any on!!!:rotfl: I have the Wii fit and am going on in a few mins. to get some exercise in:confused3. I was planning on going for a long walk today. However the weather in New York is pouring rain, so that's out. Also what I try to do is not eat after 6pm if possible. I find I sleep so much better not being full. Plus when I cook for my family if I eat what they are having I just take a smaller plate and eat smaller portions. Keep moving and have a good day:cool1:.

:yay:Keep up the good work. It has always helped me to exercise before I eat. I find that I am not as hungry. And yes treats every now and then do help. Especially today with the 100 cal. snacks etc. Plus they taste good. It is so important to count calories. Cutting calories and exercise really is the key. If you really want to have one of the 6 c's have it, but in a small portion. Good luck.:thumbsup2

hello everyone! As I am reading this thread, i am sitting here eating my WW yougurt (Key Kime Pie flavored and half frozen so it tastes almost like ice cream!) yummy!
My story:
5'4" If I stand really straight :thumbsup2 56 years old. Decided Januay 1 that i was going to get my weight under control (weighed about 205 pounds) See, our family (adult DD and DH) went to DW June 2007 and we were all miserable due to weight problems. They mainly laid by the pool while I huffed and puffed by myself popping pain pills in the parks! BYW, we stayed at BWI so our stay was not cheap so i shelled out good $ to lay by a pool when they could have been laying by a pool at Holiday Inn :lmao:e
I decided we weren't going back until we lost weight! So, this January, I joined WW and we started. Well, I lost a few pounds and stalled. Husband kept losing. Fast forward, he has now lost 40 pounds, i have lost 15. Still cooking mainly WW but not going to meetings. Long story there too!:surfweb:
here is my real problem with getting my weight under control (well, one of them, anyway! :rotfl2:): back problems. I had surgery march 2008. Some relief but not 100%. Then developed nerve problems in left leg. Had nerve blocks for that pain. Now, that pain is better but back is worse - much worse. Also tried water aerobics (Dr said it would be good for my back) wrongo! Instructor put us in the deep end and it killed my back. Shallow end I did okay and really felt good the days we stuck to those but some instructors only do deep end!:sad2:
So, I hate the way I look, hate the way I feel, hate myself for getting in this shape and hurt so bad it takes all my energy to focus on getting out of bed!
Thanks for reading. Sorry to be so down:sad1:
Oh, and as you can see, we have an upcoming trip!

Oh, and as you can see, we have an upcoming trip!
First never feel like a downer that's why i started this thread you are prime expample. You need to vent and here's the place.
Second anytime you do water aerobics is always good for injuries, older, people, and pregnancy. Try the water aerobics again but if the instructor pulls the class to the deep end explain "I have a back injury that prevents deep water aerobics." This should key the instructor to keep the class where you can either see from the shallow end or if they are nice (like I was) keep the whole class in shallow.
Some exercises are more beneficial in the deep end but not always.
So the instructors should benefit you (you're paying em)
Please something good for back pain is just plain swimming or try Low Impact Yoga/Stretch
This will still work you out but may even relieve some back issues.
Prior to having my daughter I taught Yoga, Pilates, Dance, and some Water Aerobics at our local "Y". However a new manager came and taught a pregnant instructor was just :scared1: so I got fired! Short story from a long one I gained lots of weight after losing my job and being pregnant but got a yrs worth of salary from lawsuit  Guess they should watch who they hire as a manager next time.
Come and VENT anytime

:thumbsup2Hey ckdsnynt good for you losing 15 pounds. You should be very proud. Just think that's 15 pounds you have taken off and not put on. It does take a lot longer as we age and we all know men lose twice as fast as we do. So keep up the good work and try to exercise as much as you can. Even if it means turning on the radio and dancing around. The first time I lost nearly 100 pounds I use to do laps around my yard. My mother in law is on WW for about 2 1/2 years now. She's 72 and has lost about 33 pounds. She feels stuck at this point, but I say at least she hasn't gained any weight. Always think of it as I have to lose just 1 pound. It really isn't a matter of a diet. We must change the way we live. That's why I think WW is great. You can eat regular food while counting points. Keep up the good work.
:yay:Lisa: I did the Wii Fit this morning. Did about 30 mins. Tried the step thing, but am no good at it...lol. I like to do the balance things and the running. How about the soccer? Every now and then I get hit in the head with a sneaker...lmao. I did really good today with my calories and am hoping once my boys go to bed I can get some exercise bike time in. :confused3

I hate the soccer  I always get hit by either a shoe or a dang "panda" head by the way whats a panda gotta do with soccer.:lmao:
I love the step the trick is to find the rhythm and count 1,2,3,4 or say left, right, side, side, etc.:dance3:
I have the balance game where you sit and try not to blow out your candle (my fav sitting :lmao:No I really like it cause it helps to relax till the dang candle blows out cause your silly :dog2:doberman:dog2: decides to move.

ckdsnynt, good job with the 15lbs. That's great. and my Dh could just think about giving up soda and lose 30 lbs. It's very unfair.
Water aerobics is great. It really works you out without putting stress on your joints. Good luck to you.

I am so  mad at myself because I knew I wasn't hungry but boy was it good.
Hopefully I can keep myself from eating anything else tonight!

Are you y'all wearing a pedometer? I've been trying to and even if I don't get the 10,000 steps (which is equal to 5 miles) it's a gauge to me about when I am not being active (read lazy)! If I don't have 5,000 steps by around 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon I know I have to hustle and do myself some extra walking. The guys in my life love it because I'm always willing to get them that drink of water or anything that will give me extra steps! Just my small step to keeping myself and family happy!:goodvibes Sorry for the pun!

Okay I setup a poll just curious what ya'll find the hardest.
Mine is finding the right support.
I think if I had like a "Weight Loss" Buddy :confused3someone who's in the same boats and I can check in with once a day. To discuss what I ate, what she ate, what exercise we did or should have done. I don't want a drill sergeant just someone who will listen and have something for me to listen to too. I hate:mad: having a trainer they don't understand the struggle so I want some one who's needs me just as much as I need them.

So how did you ladies do today? Me, not so bad after all...I resisted eating the 3 pieces of pizza that we had at open house tonight. Instead I did eat one small piece for dinner (it's a local pizza place that makes the pizza & it's delicious, way better than Pizza Hut or the like).
I've decided I'm going to get my weight under control, I may not make it to my "ideal weight" by October, but I will have lost a few pounds by then & I will be healthier because I'm starting to work out. I had orginally wanted get to what I weighed when I got married (my husband & I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in September) but I have recently decided that might be too unreasonable. I weighed somewhere between 103 to 98 lbs when I got married 10 years ago (remember I'm 4'11 so that was well within the normal range for a 22 year old woman). I now weigh 150 lbs, so I don't think I'll make that goal & I think I'll cause myself too much stress trying to get to it. So, my goal now is to just work out & get healthy. If the numbers on the ol'mighty scale go down, well that's just icing on the cake!:):)
Well, I'll check in tomorrow, it's time to put the kiddos to bed! Good night all.

I did well today. I resisted the raspberry dark chocolate 3 muskateers bar someone offered me. It was hard because I love raspberry dark chocolate anything. And I have not stuffed my face full of junk this evening. Night time is the worst for me. I just want to gorge in food. Horrible, I know. Not much exercise this evening. Rain and just cold. Tomorrow too. Blah!

Well today I did pretty good minus the ice cream cup. Did some exercise more cleaning than actually working out hardcore. I did whats called "One Hundreds" its a pilates move that'll have your abs screaming "NO NO MORE"
I did 30 mins of step on the WII FIT and planning on doing some yoga before bed to with my WII FIT.
:woohoo: So all in all I did okay :woohoo:

Hi ladies,
It's nice to know that I am not alone. I would love to drop 50 lbs before our upcoming trip. For me the hardest thing is my sweet tooth and I miss certian foods when I am trying to diet. It seems like I lose and gain the same 25-30 lbs every year, then I stop losing and fall off the wagon so to speak. Good luck to all of you. :goodvibes

Hi Girls!! I love this thread! I am 21 now and weigh way too much (265lbs to be exact). I haven't really gained any since I got back from my last trip, but haven't lost any either... and I was looking at pics from my first trip to Disney back in 06 and I'm pretty sure I've gained 80 lbs
I know that my biggest problem is I only drink about 8 oz of water every 2 days.... bad bad bad... so that is my goal... to add drinking water and some exercise to try to cut pounds
I would love to join along with all of you on this journey to making the parks a slimmer place for all :yay:
I think this thread will be my new motivation, so thank you all

Good morning ladies! I am loving this. I am going to DW in Dec. to celebrate my 40th birthday. I would love to lose 15-20lbs. We went to Disney in 2003, one year after my DD was born. My husband had lost 30lbs and I had lost 20lbs before we went. I look back at those pictures and wonder where that girl went( and that handsome boy because he put all of his weight back on also:happytv:). We spent a week in Orlando last year at Universal, SeaWorld, Aquatica, and Busch Gardens. I look at those pictures and I :scared1:. I am determined to look that way(2003) again especially for my 40th birthday. Two of BFF's and their families are going with us for a grand gathering. Watch out for the Alabama Bash 2009. I am going to get them on board also. Our problem - we love to eat!!!! We are Southern Baptist and we don't have any functions WITHOUT FOOD. I also teach with a faculty that loves to cook and bring food for every occasion. Plus we love to chow down while watching the Crimson Tide! My DDs are competitive gymnasts and one BFF's daughter is also. We are on the road a lot which means eating out and eating around their practice schedules. It is hard to have healthy, home-cooked meals. Another excuse, my husband is a high school football and baseball coach. Right now, a dinner around the table is difficult for us. Now that you have heard my sorry excuse sob story, give me a swift kick in the pants and tell me to get with it!:yay: I'll be checking in frequently.:surfweb:Have a BLESSED DAY!

I am now 173.5 and am hoping for another 43.5 before my Aug 23 trip to WDW. If I can't make the 43.5 I am hoping to get as close as I can. Lisa I love the poll. For me it's missing the food. Because I love to eat. But now I have to love me more and wanting to get healthy. This morning I went out and did some shopping so I was sure to park far away to get some exercise in. Soon I am going on the Wii Fit. I am going to give that Step exercise a try again. I am going to do what you suggested Lisa counting. And if I am having a really bad day I plan on playing the soccer game...maybe a few shoes to the head might help...HA, HA. :rotfl2: Everyone keep up the good work and even if you slip get right back up and start over.

WOW... you ladies are awesome... great job on the weight loss. After years of trying to lose weight, nutra system, Jenny Craig, weight watchers, months with dieticians I wasn't getting anywhere... my blood pressure was out of control. I decided that I needed something more drastic and had gastric bypass surgery. That was December 5, 2009... yes just 4 months ago. My weight on surgery day was 228 lbs... I had lost 8 pounds prior to that ( because the doctor wanted me to). I am 5'3". I am now 169 pounds... so almost 60 pounds. It is a struggle every day not to put things in my mouth... it is as much a mind thing as anything else...this food addiction. I am feeling healthier.. my blood pressure is great... My goal is to be at 165 lbs for my May trip. The first 30 pounds came right off... now its work... watching what I eat, exercising (which I hate to do)... I must say that this is a journey... be proud of the successes you have... however small they are....

Had to get that out of the way. Now that I have the more the merrier. Also trust me on the trying to not eating so much as a southern baptist we have a pot-luck at church every lunch and dinner this week for Easter. So I know how you're tempting. Thank you for teacher our youth (you and DH).
My DD(4) does competitive dance and it has me running however not losing any weight from all the running (:confused3)
Remember even if you are having fast food its possible to eat healthy. Like a Grilled Sandwich (no mayo) and skip fries ask for a salad or fruit cup (since most places give your more choices now).
Have a good one in BAMA!

Now my Maryann don't miss food just change the way you look at it (that was guruish) I was reading on a site that instead of missing and going hungry you should choose a healthy snack apparently nuts, cheeses, and fruits are always good and filling. This way when you see something that you think your hungry for you are full and can resist it more.
Has anyone tried the Special K snacks and water?
Also I have yet to turn on hte WII Fit but am hoping to before dance tonight (tonight is the night my DD and I have dance class, yep at 25 I still dance with 17 yr olds and can hold my own too ad they look better in the costumes than me oh well age difference doesn't help)

My mother had GB surgery to lose weight and that was over 3 yrs ago she had to change her entire LIFE. And it is hard it isn't just going in and having the surgery you have to remeber with every meal how much sugar, fat, and claories you can have. FOr months she was misrable because she could only drink these nasty nutrion shakes. So Way to go on doing so well.

Wow this is a great bunch of ladies. We are making our way to our goals, exercising and resisting that piece of cake. Good job! My goal tonight is to do the step. I have it in the living room and I can hear is whispering to me. "Tonya get off your hiney and step. You can do it while watching T.V." (The lack of sugar in my system may explain why exercise equipment is talking to me)

I see that a lot of you do Wii Fit. Has anyone bought the Dance Revolution game for Wii Fit? Is it worth it? Is it expensive?
Food wise I'm doing good. When I eat food I really want, for example cake, I am trying to just eat less of it than I normally would. I'm trying to do half-portions. Then again, there are just some foods I have to ignore altogether--Weight Watchers called them "trigger foods"!

Hello Ladies,
Great job to everyone on the weight loss and resisting bad food. :cheer2:
I was the second person to post on this wonderful thread and I mentioned that I had lost 68 pounds on weight watchers. Well I don't think I mentioned that I had put back on 13 pounds and am working to get it off again before it all comes back. :scared1:
I truly believe that losing weight is a mind game. If I am having a good day I will stick to eating healthy and working out...if I am having a stressful day, that is when I want to grab a doughnut or some candy and crawl into bed. I try to exercise in the morning before work. It is hard but I have noticed that the days I exercise in the morning, I have a much better day and I am in a much better mood which allows me to deal with the stress when it comes up. The days I do not exercise I lose my patience more and I am cranky. Exercise helps so much so try to do it as much as you can.
I also believe that planning is the key. Every week I plan out what we are going to have for dinner for the week and what foods I will need to bring to work with me and what snacks I will need. I go food shopping and try to have everything I need for the week so I am not stuck grabbing something "fast" and bad for us.
I also try to give myself a goal every week. For a while I was not eating as well and not exercising as much...the result was gaining back 13 pounds. This week my goal was to exercise 4 days this week. I even planned out which days I would workout and which exercises I will do. It is Tuesday and I have already worked out twice this week. Tomorrow morning and Thursday morning I will workout to complete my goal for the week.
Anyway...sorry for rambling on so much. I think this thread is great as we could all use the support. :grouphug: Now I need a support group to help me get my house organized. It is such a mess and I need a lot of help in that area. :laundy:

Food wise I'm doing good. When I eat food I really want, for example cake, I am trying to just eat less of it than I normally would. I'm trying to do half-portions. Then again, there are just some foods I have to ignore altogether--Weight Watchers called them "trigger foods"!
If I eat anything after 9pm it will trigger me to eat all night.
I would love dance revolution. If any has it please let us know what it's like.

:goodvibesHey Ladies: Wow made it through another day. I did very well today. I even managed to get some exercise in. I am lucky I have 3 sets of stairs in my house and though I have never counted I must go up and down about 100 times a day!!! Lisa I will try different snacks. A big problem for me is carbs. I love my carbs. Especially cereal and I mean the yummy sweet stuff. Thank goodness for me Leam Cuisine has come out with new pasta meals that I really like.
Mrs. Grumpy Congrats on your weight loss :thumbsup2. Keep up the good work. It is worth it.

:laundy:

Congradulations on your weight loss!
I agree with you stress makes me want to eat all kinds of things that I know are bad for me. I also find when I am really tired and don't get enough sleep I want to eat sweets and high fat foods.
Love the comment on house organization, I need a support group for that too! :lmao:

Lisa- I am very impressed with your dancing. If you are dancing like that it should be helping you shed some lbs. If your still not losing you may want to get your thyroid checked. I have a friend who danced like crazy and could not lose and it turned out to be her thyroid. Also thanks for the heads up on the Dance revolution.
Well its a new day tomorrow. We can do it!

Actually I have danced since I was 3 and thanks for the nice comments. I have had my thyroid checked and its fine the problem for me is I have a issue with fast food and I actually only have dance for 2 hrs ever Tuesday. And before I went back to taking I only teach and as a teacher all my activity was limited so I put more and more weight on I know how to lose it just don't have that "go do it" drive!

Okay here's why I am kinda ERK'ed is the best word or just plain:mad: mad!
Okay so every Tuesday I have to take my DD to dance and I also have dance class with a bunch of high schoolers (I am the oldest out of 7 kids ranging form 14-22 I am 25).. Well tonight like every 1st tuesday was Pointe/Ballet night my very absolute favorite till the teacher says Lisa you teach tonight I twisted my ankle can't dance... Lovely ... I am too fat to teach thats why I stand in the back and just go with the flow. (Mind ya I hold my own) So I begin to strech our feet and then we put on our shoes...
Okay I have taken pointe for over 10 yrs and I wear my shoes one way well apparently for 10 yrs I have done it wrong according to some twig 17 yr old who decided if I can't tie my own pointe shoe apparently I can't teach her either. And so she began to talk during the entire class so what do I do... I yell over her and then I would comment on her converstation like " oh no he didn't" came out of my mouth LOL
Long story short my nervous are shot my head hurts and I have 4 bleeding toes :headache:
On the note of losing weight did very well today on top of having dance today I played with DD (4) on our trampoline (me plus trampoline plus gravity :lmao:HILARIOUS:lmao:) it came form the Easter bunny early!
Oh and for lunch I fixed them tacos and instead of having th greasy meat kind we had ground lean turkey for meat  and for dinner i hit McDonalds
BUT I had a Grilled Chicken sandwich with only a tomatoe on it no mayo... and I didn't eat the fries instead I order a side salad too (not their dressing used a Low Fat Vinegrete I had here)
:woohoo:GO ME:woohoo:
And to all of you :cool1: way to go! :thumbsup2 On a successful day and if you cheated :confused3 that's okay too!
Well Love to you all :grouphug:

Tomorrw is a new day with a fresh start. I have two goals for that day: drink more water and journal my food. Those two things are key forme and they are the first tewo things I drop when things start going downhill.

It's not just ladies that are trying to drop some weight. I put on about 15 lbs after some emotional upheaval last year and finally decided enough-was-enough. I'm not specifically planning on losing weight for vacation but the trip comes at a good time to serve as a barometer.
Of course, guys have different body-image issues than women do :cool2:
I truly believe that losing weight is a mind game. If I am having a good day I will stick to eating healthy and working out...if I am having a stressful day, that is when I want to grab a doughnut or some candy and crawl into bed.

Extremely good advice here. :worship:
I think the best thing for me so far is measuring success in many ways. Lots of people simply measure with the scale. If the scale doesn't budge they get depressed "I did all this hard work and nothing to show for it!" and go off their plan. While I'm looking at the scale, I have one that shows body fat percentage and I note that. I also have measured various body parts and note how they change week-to-week. I also keep track of how my workouts go.
Overall, as long as I'm making progress somewhere, I'm making progress. Last week, my weight was higher than when I started working out and watching my diet almost two months ago. But the body fat reading is a lot lower, wearing pants a size smaller and I've added 20 - 30 lbs to most of my lifts since I started lifting weights again. Had I just been watching the scale, I would not have been a happy camper. But the other measurements showed that lots of progress has been made in the direction I want to go.
I'm back at the point of liking going to the gym which is a huge help. I have short-term (6 mo) and medium-term (12-18 mo) goals and when I see weekly progress, it's a lot easier to see progress toward those longer-term goals.

I love that "fun size". I'm 5'2" also and I saw a T-shirt at Kohl's the other day that says " I'm not short I'm fun size"

Not rambling at all! I can so relate! You seem very goal oriented which I think is very important for success! What are you doing for exercise in the morning? I need some ideas!
I do most of my workouts at home. I have a channel called FitTV and there is an instructor that is AWESOME! Her name is Cathe Friedrich. The workouts are so hard but so good. I DVR a whole bunch of her workouts and I choose what I want to do out of them. The show is an hour but they have commercials so I FF through them while moving my feet the whole time. I count it as a 45 min. workout. She has a lot of step aerobic workouts and if you like dancing you will like her step routines. The coreogrophy is hard and takes a few times to really learn the steps but that is the fun part for me. It makes me feel like I am in a dance class again...sort of. She has a kickboxing workout, interval workouts, boot camp workouts, then she has a whole bunch of workouts with lifting weights. I don't really do the ones that are only weights. I do the ones that have cardio and weights since I love the cardio but I am thinking of taking one day a week to do just weights. She is an instructor for people who want an advanced workout so you may have to work up to using her but if you want to check out her website it is
www.cathe.com (http://www.cathe.com)
There is another set of workouts I like to do on FitTV. The series is called All Star Workouts and there are different instructors for all different types of workouts. I like one called Cardio boot Camp and the instructor is Kendal Hogan. I think he is very good and very motivating and the steps are easier to follow if you are just starting out. There is also a step routine in the All Star Workouts called Non Stop Step and the instructor is Patrick, I think his last name starts with a G. Anyway...it is a really good step routine and although it is not easy...it is not as hard as the Cathe Friedrich workouts so it is better to start with.
This morning I am going to do the boot camp workout from Cathe Friedrich and tomorrow I will do a step routine from her called Step Blast.
I also have a gym membership but I hardly ever go. The gym is Planet Fitness and it is only $10.00 a month but it is pretty far away and it just takes too long. I would rather workout at home and be done in 45 min.
Oh...I have another workout that is good for people who have a treadmill or want to start running. It is a program online called couch to 5K. It takes people who have not worked out at all and gradually works your way up to being able to run a 5K. The website is called.

Hi Lisa,
Sorry about your toes. I am 39 years old and I used to dance when I was a child until I was 18 and then I gave it up because I felt I was getting too old. I did not want to be the oldest one in the class. I think it is awesome that you are still taking dance classes. I wish I was taking them now.
Good job on the trampoline and making good choices at McDonalds.

I agree that you have to measure success in other ways...not just the scale. We also have to realize that we have to continue after we hit our goal. Once we stop watching what we eat and exercising, the weight will come back. We will be doing this forever so it does not matter how long it takes. As long as we do not give up we will succeed.
Keep up the great work,

Hi Lisa,
Sorry about your toes. I am 39 years old and I used to dance when I was a child until I was 18 and then I gave it up because I felt I was getting too old. I did not want to be the oldest one in the class. I think it is awesome that you are still taking dance classes. I wish I was taking them now.

I love it minus the brats ... actually they're two really sweet "non corrupted" girls that are 15 and 16 in the class that really cling to me and boy do I love to hear and LAUGH :lmao::lmao: at their trivial teenage drama. So its fun being the oldest and plus the teacher is an old friend and I'm just there for the love I have for dance and the fact it is exercise. Also me and the teachers have an "accord" I get put in the back for everything (sometimes they cheat me out of that).:scared1:

:cool1:Hello Again: Well it's 12:15pm in New York and I just got back from a class trip with my DS (6). It was a cute play put on by the local college. The kids really loved it. Me on the other hand couldn't really enjoy it. They put us all in the Balcony I think we were in the NOSE BLEED section...ha, ha:scared1:. But it made me worry. These kids are all young and jumping up and down in their seats. I find myself not watching the show and watching the kids making sure no one gets hurt. So now that that is over I earned a treat. Stopped at Subway on the way home grabbed the $5.00 wheat footlong with Turkey & Vegs with Lite Mayo. What I do is have half for lunch and the other half for lunch tomorrow. Oh it's so yummy!!! Now I just have to get some exercise in for today. I did so much dancing to the radio yesterday that my arms feel like I put in a major work out!!! It hurts, but it feels so good :goodvibes. So that's what I think I will do before lunch. Enjoy your day. :cheer2:

:cheer2:
Sounds like a smart lunch choice... work those arm muscles!!!!!

WII ANNOUNCEMENT:
DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY
In my opinion we bought it thinking it would be good exercise, however if you aren't very good at it you only dance for 30 secs and then told you suck... great motivation its more for kids because my 10 yr old niece loves (shes not very good at it thought just likes the crappy music on it)
ALSO :wave2: EVERYONE WHO STOPPED BY TODAY JUST GOT HOME FROM HARDCORE POINTE/BALLET AND GOTTA NURSE MY 4 BLEEDING TOES :headache:
YOU'D THINK ALL THAT DANCING I WOULD BE SKINNY :sad2:
Thanks for the review. I heard that it was different from the original one that came out a couple of years ago and are at all the malls. With your dance background, I'm sure your standards are high! Hope your toes are feeling better! And Thanks, Lisa for starting this support group!
The website is called.
www.coolrunning.com (http://www.coolrunning.com)
Hope this helps,
Loralie
Loralie this is just what I was looking for! We have Fit TV but I have never tuned in. We also have DVR so no excuses for me! As we age, I really think we have to combo--calorie reduction with exercise! Those lbs. can be so stubborn!
For y'all that are doing calorie counting or want to keep an electronic food diary--I found this great website where you can do it for free: www.livestrong.com Click on the Daily Plate link. I also heard that www.hungrygirl.com is very similar to Weight Watchers but it is free. I haven't used the site but am planning to check it out if I can tear myself away from the DIS. :surfweb:

It's not just ladies that are trying to drop some weight. I put on about 15 lbs after some emotional upheaval last year and finally decided enough-was-enough. I'm not specifically planning on losing weight for vacation but the trip comes at a good time to serve as a barometer.
Of course, guys have different body-image issues than women do :cool2:
Sorry GrumpyOne, lost my head there thinking I was talking only to women!:worship: Isn't it crazy how you get to typing and you forget that the people you are "conversing" with are across the world somewhere and not across the kitchen table from you? That's what gets me in trouble - I just assume I am having coffee with my lady friends and forget there may be some guys out there!:) As my DGD says "sorry, sorry, sorry, sooooo sorry!":)
I do know what you are talking about tho with the scales not being the only gauge: everyone at work keeps syaing "how much have you lost?" and my clothes (especially slacks) have started hanging on me but I have only lost 15 pounds so far! But that's okay - 15 less to lose now!
I too am setting small, medium and large (:lmao: oun intended!) goals! I think breaking them down will help.
Not to the point of liking the gym yet. Oh, I like the building just fine. They built a new YMCA two years ago and we are members there. I always honk and wave when I drive by:rotfl2: just don't like what goes on inside especially when it's me they expect to do all that stuff. Personally, I think I have an allergic reaction to sweat!
I have two new exercise videos but I have no clue how to start them with all the gadgets DH has hooked up to the tv. I thought of using the portable DVD player that we use in the car but I can't see the screen on it across the livingroom because it is so small! So, now I have a plan: have DH hook up the dvd before he goes to bed at night so it is ready for me the next morning! Problem solved!
Goal today was to drink more water - didn't get that one done.
Second goal - journal all food. Did that one!:thumbsup2

ckdsnynt I think keeping a food journal is a great idea:thumbsup2. I think I will start one tomorrow. I always liked the Richard Simmons exercise videos Sweating to the Oldies. :yay: I must check the millions of videos we have to see if we still have one. I would love to do that. Also I think I have the same allergy as you...Allergic reaction to sweat...Laughing Out Loud!!!:rotfl2: But we all know sweating is the way to go to shed those pounds. Oh if only there was an easier way:confused3. Keep up the good work.:goodvibes

Today was an okay day. I did break down this morning and eat an egg and cheese biscuit. I figure I didn't get the bacon that has to help some, right? The hardest part of my day was shopping for Easter basket items. I think I almost broke into a cold sweat as I longingly stared at the chocolate Bunnies. Mmm, Bunny ears. But I did NOT buy one for myself. I got myself a bag of licorice and ate 2 pieces. That's it. I still need to exercise tonight. I can do it, I know I can,
I'm glad I have you ladies and fellows. Losing weight is hard, and it's nice to have people out there that understand.

maidenfairy I hear you loud and clear. Today my DS came home with one of those Marshmellow Choc. Easter Bunnies and I wanted to eat it so bad. Anything with MM and Choc is so yummy. Good thing he ate it fast!!! I did good today, but I am really wanting to eat something right now. That is why I am up in my room and not going anywhere near the kitchen. It is such a big help to be able to vent with all you gals and guys.
P.S. I know you can do it!!! :thumbsup2

WOW! Hi Loralie - I was just reading your post and about fell off my chair...
I have the same workout printed off and pasted to my fridge....
I never introduced myself.
Im a mom of two turning 40 in September.
We are going to disney for FREE dining in August.
I decided I had to lose 22lbs before my trip...HELP. So I decided to start running. I printed out the schedule - and have been walking but no running yet.
Loralie - are you following that schedule and is it helping with your weightloss.
I really like that you start out just walking...then you just need a stopwatch to walk say for 5 mins then run for 1 mins...when you start running....then back to walking. I saw the schedule and thought I can do that!
So far I have lost 2 lbs - 20 more to go.

Great job on losing 2 pounds so far. just stick with it and you will make it to your goal. I did something similar to the couch to 5k program before I found the website. I used to go to the gym with my friend a few days a week when we first started weight watchers. At that time I was only walking on the treadmill then I gradually started adding running. I would walk for 4 min. and jog for 1 min. It was so hard at first, when it started getting easier I increased the jogging and decreased the walking. walking 3 min. jogging for 2 min. eventually I was able to run for 30 min. at a time. I have not been to the gym in a while but I think I can still do it because the workouts I do have a lot of jogging and jumping.
Just a side note, the girl I used to go to the gym with all the time did not lose as much weight as I did and now we are not as close as we used to be. I am sad about it. :sad2: We used to hang out all the time and now we hardly ever talk. When I would call her she would act like I was bothering her on the phone. I got sick of being the one to call all the time so I stopped calling. Anyone else go through something like that?

But the good thing is I made it through the night without any food. I have half of my Subway Sandwich for lunch today and I swear it has been calling me all night. But I won this battle:lovestruc. Hi:
I hope it's not to late to join your group.
I never lost the babyweight from the birth of my only child DD6 and gained even more.
I have a free dining trip planned 8/20-8/28 and promised myself that I would lose weight. Last trip to Disney in 2007 I never wanted any photos of myself or with my family becasue I am just embarrassed how bad I looked. Now I regret not having photos with my daughter. I told myself that I have to loose 20 lbs before Disney, so that is 5 lbs a month. But I need to loose more than really, but one goal at a time-right?! Hopefully I can reach that goal.
I have tried WW and N.System, both helped but the weight just came back on. And with N System, the amount of sodium in a meal was more than I should have. So in effort to loose weight I joined a gym near my house.
I am glad to know that there are people out there who are in the same boat.
I'm almost 5' tall and almost 200lbs, I know that at 180 (my goal for the trip) I still won't be a beach bikini kind of girl but I am hoping I will feel better about myself.
My husband says he can't even tell that I gained weight from our wedding, which was 10 years ago and I was 135lbs ( I starved myelf and worked out everyday) he is such a sweet guy, but I know he is lying and only trying to make me feel better.
I don't eat big meals, but I eat a LOT of snacks at night and not working out does not help.
So anyway, I am on board and thanks for starting this thread!
Hope I'm not to late to join in!

Karin, welcome and it is never too late to join the group. Your hubby sounds like a great guy. I also have a night time snacking problem, and what helps me is finding something to keep me busy. If I'm doing something then I probably won't think about food and go grab that bowl of ice cream. Good luck to you and once again, welcome to the group.

We are going out of town tonight for two nights, but I am going to try and make good decisions while I am gone.

:goodvibesWelcome Karin: It's never too late to join in or lose weight. Never starve yourself. Just go with smaller portions and counting calories and very important get up and exercise. Believe me I know how hard it is. I have struggled all my life. I am now 173.5 and am hoping to get to 130 or as close as I can by our Aug 23-30 trip. Back in 2000/2001 I lost nearly 100 pounds and weighed 129 when we went to WDW in 2001. I tell you it was the greatest feeling being able to have my picture taken and not hate what I see. To this day when I look at those pictures I can't believe how thin I was. But I was healthy and now for my health and to feel better about me I have to do it. It's really not a matter of a diet as much as it is a way of life. For the rest of my life I have to watch what I eat and I must exercise. I know you can do it. I bet between now and your trip you will drop more then 20ibs. Remember to think of it as 1 pound at a time. It's better then thinking I must lose 20ibs. Good Luck. P.S. Good Luck. P.S. When you crave those snacks stop and think about or do something anything else. Think to yourself am I hungry? Put on the radio and dance around.:cool1:

Thanks so much for the kind words. I am off of work today and just picked up my daughter at school and am headed off to Buffalo(after my hubby gets home from school-he is a high school special ed teacher) for a short trip to see my sister. Seeing the sun out today is reminding me that summer is coming(it's unusal to see the sun in Syracuse-it's usually rain or snow-lots of snow). And you are correct one pound at a time.
You are right I need to change my routine, I snack a lot in front of the TV. I am going to try watching less TV and more time reading (it's to hard to snack while holding a book).
Thanks for the happy thought and I am sending some good vibes right back at ya!:woohoo:

So anyway, I am on board and thanks for starting this thread!
Hope I'm not to late to join in!
Karin
Hey Karin
Never too late ... I am in the same boat... I gained like 20 lbs with my DD 4 and never lost it just added more on top of it ... even though I thought I was trying to lose weight I never got any where ... So for my yearly Disney trip I decided I wanted to look better in the photos :3dglasses So here I go on my "road to losing 40 lbs" before our FD trip in Sept... (that's about 2 lbs a week which is a good safe way to drop weight)
MY current check in for today is:
Special K Protein Water- 30 Cal
1/4 Cup of Raisins- 130 Cal
100 Cal Pop Corn - 100 Cal
Doesn't look like much but with how I have been eating (take a couple of bites do something like right now I am eating my popcorn popcorn:: mmm popcorn::
I take a bite or two and then I type some and then more bites.... its working for me I am filling full with as little as possible actually consumed.)

Hi guys,
Just wanted to check in and post that I worked out this morning. I did the Cathe Friedrich workout called Step Blast. I am so proud of myself for 2 reasons. #1 is I promised myself that I would workout 4 days this week and this was the 4th workout. I worked out Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and today. :woohoo:. Reason #2 that I am proud of myself is that I started late with the workout and for a few min. I felt that I would not have the time and ALMOST talked myself out of exercising. Instead I did all of the workout except for the last few min. which is a cool down. I just walked around a little to get my heart rate down. I wound up being 15 min. late for work but it was worth it. :rotfl:
Welcome to the group Karin...your DH sounds like a keeper. Just take it one day at a time and one pound at a time. Also...we have to remember that when we stop focusing on our eating and exercising, that is when the weight comes back. I realized that I will be doing this for the rest of my life and I am alright with that.
So what have you done today to make you feel proud? (Love the Biggest Loser!)

SELF.com has a free "thing" dunno what to call it I have logged my food for the day and my workouts and it adds the calories fat protein fiber and carbs... I like it it doesn't have tons a food listed it has most fast food stuff and some general I just wrote everything done and then added manually (it has a link at the bottom to add your own meal & foods)
Well just thought I would share its SELF Challange @ SELF.com

Hi, All! What am I most proud of? That I am trying hard to do a mind shift and not trying to look at my weight loss as a way to look better but as a way to be there for my kids! To live a long, healthy life and eventually enjoy grandchildren! To have the energy and the stamina for a long enjoyable day at Disney with my family. Looking better in my Disney Photo Pass pictures will be a great by-product of my weight loss--but I want to keep reminding myself that I want to loose weight so that I can be there for my family! I'm trying to brainwash myself!!!! I guess this is my vision statement!!!! Thanks for all your posts--it helps knowing that others struggle with the same issues!:grouphug:

Good for you! That must have been tough. I had a similar situation. I did not plan dinner very well today and it got late so I wound up getting McDonald's for the family and none for me. McDonald's is not so hard for me to pass up but the ice cream truck would have been very hard for me. :rotfl:

Ok so most of miss food or don't want to exercise.
So whats a good way to fix these issues ... Everyone who would like to note on these issues and help us please feel free....
The thing that makes me the proudest is the energy I have to play with my DD and actually keep up, and also I have felt good just about looking at myself as a person not a "big" person.... I am feeling beautiful and most of all HEALTHIER

Gawd - I hate exercising. I am kinda hoping for a Wii Fit for my bday, but since we are saving for the trip, I kinda doubt it.
I'm in the same boat as a lot of you are, without the kids. But I hate that I can't run around and play with my dog the way he wants me too and I hate that I get winded coming up the stairs to my apt.
SO
I am trying to lose weight before my trip with the inlaws in Sept. I know the way I look now I don't want any pictures taken of me and the last time I went was right after I got married and I had to have gained 60 pounds in the last 11 years. (Jeez that's even more depressing when I write it down)
I don't stick to plans, but this worked in the past - counting calories, walking ALOT (need to get in shape for all that park hopping besides) I won't really be able to start till after next week since I am going home this weekend and get to eat my Mom's good home cooking. But after that - Five months of working on it.
Good luck to us all!!!:hippie: :grouphug:

I'm proud of myself for walking my dog 30min. last night and turning down the cheese cake that was at work. Now I am preparing myself for the holiday weekend. I will not gorge myself at the buffet dinner. We can stay strong with the temptations that will occur this weekend. And if we falter we will get up and start again.

I just thought I'd introduce myself and join in this thread. I can use all the support I can get! I am a 33 year old mother of 2. A year ago, I was finally able to get back to my pre-baby weight. However, beginning with free dining last year where I literally gained 7lbs in a week, I managed to put all of my extra weight back on. I am once again on the path to a healthier lifestyle. I am trying to lose the weight slower and more sensibly this time so that I can continue to eat this way the rest of my life rather than forever starving myself. I am a nurse and I have taken numerous nutrition classes over the last few years as I am attempting to genuinely change my life. If anyone has any questions about healthy dieting and wellness, feel free to ask. Good luck to all of you (and myself as well!)

Welcome, Arielmomma!!! Let the questions begin! Thanks for being willing to give us personal nutrition advice. What is a sensible speed to loose weight? Is it only 1 to 2 pounds a week?

I hear ya! Later today I'm going to enter a danger zone-- China Sea Buffet. What advice can y'all give me? I know I will eat white rice and fill up on lots of veggies. What should I avoid? What main entrees are a good choice at a Chinese Restaurant.

Well, this morning, I thought, "I'm going to try on a pair of smaller jeans" you know, the ones you keep tucked away in the back of your closet? Well, guess what? I put them on and even they are baggy in the legs! Whaaahooo!!! The waist is just a little too big so I can still wear them for a little while but I am so excited.:thumbsup2 I just lost 15 punds but when you are short, it makes a huge difference. Oh, and now I have bird legs! You know, the little old ladies you see at the beach who are thick through the middle and have stick legs? I have found when you are trying to break ANY bad habit it helps to focus your mind - NOT on what you are 'giving up' but what you are moving towards.
The trick is to visualize as vividly as possible what will be different when you meet your goal. For example - I quit smoking in August 2008! Yes - I did oh yah! After smoking for 20+ Years using this technique and am hoping to employ the same to get fit.
So for smoking I focused on NOT the fact that I couldnt smoke anymore...but the things i hated about smoking...the dirty ashtrays the morning cough...focused on filling my lungs with clean blue air (yes I know air is not blue but that is the visualization I used that worked)
Im hoping to use a similar technique for getting fit
Ok so - here is a powerful meditation.
I will NOT run away from food - but TO healthy foods.
I will fill my pantry with nutritious snacks, and foods that will make my body strong! I will see myself running a 7 minute mile!
I dont know - those are my beginning visualizations. Anyone have any others they can share? :)

Weighing in is the hardest part. I can feel the diff., but if I don't see it on the scale I get depressed. I put on a pair of pants today that last week were tight and they feel pretty good:woohoo:. Okay, here is my nutrition question: why is it that you can eat one mexican food dinner and gain 3 pounds and skip one great meal and not lose those same three pounds? :confused3

Oh to GRUMPY ONE
Sorry if I said "Ladies" I am sure I said it ... "BAD LISA"
Lisa (and others), It's okay. A guy that's on these boards for a while will encounter it enough to get used to it.
If no one minds someone doing things a bit differently with different goals, I'll keep posting. It would probably keep me honest. But I really don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. :scared1:
My goals are to lose some body fat and to gain muscle. Specifically, to lose about 25 lbs of fat and gain 10 lbs of muscle before Sept. I started doing this about two months ago and am focusing on adding muscle first since its presence burns more calories and should account for a lb or two of fat lost through the summer by itself.
As summer hits, I'll most likely add pool work to my workout for cardio. Right now I'm doing a mix or stair-stepping and running on a treadmill for cardio.
I used to work out quite a bit until I was slowed by some injuries (caused by me being stupid) then moving around the world for work. I finally decided that enough-was-enough and that I needed to get back into working out again or I'd be a statistic.
I hit the gym three times a week. Well, I try to. I hit the office, do everything that can't wait then an hour or so later go to the on-site gym. Between 9-10:30 is its slowest time so that's when I prefer to go. I'm able to pick the music and normally don't have to wait for weights. Sometimes there are days when I just can't get out but those don't happen often.
My workout alternates. One day I'll do squats, benchpress and preacher curls and the next workout will be deadlifts, shoulder press and dumbbell flies. Every workout gets back extensions and situps. I've just noticed that I wasn't doing much with my calves so will be adding a standing calf raise.
I just noticed it this weekend and since I had to skip my workout on Thursday, I figured I'd give the calf raise a try on Fri. Today I could certainly feel where I was being deficient and expect that this will really help since I don't want to have gained muscle but still have skinny calves. Easily done at home with nothing more than a paperback novel if that's all that's available.
Because I'm lifting with the intent of getting stronger and building muscle, I've recently dropped the carbs and increased the protein. I'm aiming for under 100g of carbs per day (mostly in the first 8 hours) and 200g of protein (spread as evenly as I conveniently can) throughout the day. I'm aiming for about 2500-3000 calories per day for now, that'll drop once I've added a few more pounds of muscle. I also decided I needed extra vitamins and minerals. So, overall, I'm trying to drop about .5 - 1 lb /week at first, increasing later.
In the week or so since I've decided to drop the carbs and increase the protein, I've started making my own lunches as well. It used to be that lunch was usually leftovers but now I've started cooking for a bit on the weekend and freezing/refrigerating it until needed. Beef, chicken, pork, cauliflower, green beens and broccoli for now. Gonna get fresh spinach when it's available as well.
By making the components for my lunch all at once on the weekend, I'll spend more time figuring out what I want that day then I will getting it. There should be enough combinations that I won't get easily bored. And I'll have the flexibility of grabbing a bit more on workout days than on non-workout days.

OMG Lisa! Sorry to hear about the tornadoes and the flood. Glad to hear you got power back. I hope everyone else in your family is alright.
As far as my weight loss goes I am a little surprised. I weigh in every Saturday, LAST Saturday the scale said I weighed 156. I did eat some very salty items and it was my "Time Of Month" (TOM) so I did not let it bother me too much. Monday of this week I took a peek at the scale and it said I was down to 153 pounds. I had lost 3 pounds and I was very happy. I had worked out Sunday and Monday and I figured since TOM was over and maybe my body got rid of the extra salt was the reason for a 3 pound loss in a few days. Anyway, since Monday of this week I worked out again on Wed. and Thurs. and yesterday (Friday) I worked a 12 hour shift on my feet all day and I ate very well and drank all of my water. Well I get on the scale this morning and it said I am 154. I gained 1 pound since Monday! :confused3 I really thought it would at least be the same or even lose another pound because of all the working out and eating right.
Oh well...I have been doing this for so long and if the weight does not show on the scale this week, it will show next week. Right? Right! I do feel much better with all the exercising and that is very important.
This weekend is going to be a little tough since I have a party to go to tonight and Easter is tomorrow. I am going to try to fit a workout in today since tomorrow will be very busy.
Good luck to everyone handling the holidays.

Grumpy One you are inspiring me! I have a membership to Golds Gym that I never use. I justify keeping it--because now it's only $10 a month. I am hitting it to do the weight machines. I think you have the right idea.
Loralie, Wow! Your numbers are great! The same thing happens to me. My numbers go up and down constantly. I think I lose and gain the same 2 lbs over and over. I gained 2 lbs. over the Chinese Buffet Trip. I tried to stay low-cal and I made good choices--but I know even when you make good choices I really have to watch my portion control. I try so hard not to obsess over numbers but of course it is so hard not to. We've been conditioned to! Sometimes my numbers are up but I feel skinnier, so I'm gonna try real hard not to let that derail my weight loss!

Loralie: Great job esp. with TOM I know how easy it is to break down and eat chocolate or something really salty. So Kudos to you!:yay::yay::yay:
I have not exercised today as my DD6 has been vomiting since last night. But, it also makes me not want to eat anything (healthy or otherwise).
Tomorrow being Easter I will probably not get out either, but I am hoping to get out for a walk. The fresh air will do me some good!
Cheers!

Hi Everyone,
I went to the Party last night and I was alright but not great with the food. I ate a little bit of everything (chicken parm, chicken francese, baked ziti, eggplant parm, and sausage and peppers) and 1 piece of bread with a little bit of butter. I wanted seconds of the food but did not take it. They also had beer and wine and drinks at the party but I was good and stuck with water. As far as desert went I could have been better. I took a piece of cake and ate like 3 bites of it. They also had M&M candies on the table and I had 2 small handfuls of them. Then at the end they had cotton candy and I took a little bit of my son's. The good thing was that I danced most of the night so maybe that helped a little. I also did not get a chance to exercise yesterday and with today being Easter I don't think I will have a chance to exercise today.
Today being Easter will be hard for me with the food and candy. I will just have to make sure to enjoy myself but not to go overboard. Everything in moderation.
Well I have to go, I have a million things to do to get ready for my company today.
Happy Easter everyone,
Loralie

I think you did a great job turning down seconds. Party situations are difficult to handle, but it looks like you did well. And really who can turn down cotton candy. It's sugar spun heaven in my book. Good job with the water too. I don't think a lot of people realize how many calories they drink and beer is loaded with empty calories.
Happy Easter everyone and good luck staying away from or moderately enjoying those treats.

Today wasn't bad but my workout got a bit messed up. I wasn't able to get away until lunch time and the gym was pretty busy then.
Breakfast was a protein shake with a pair of bananas, lunch was a mix of chicken, pork and steak with broccoli and a protein shake. Dinner was salisbury steak with cauliflower and a very small serving of potatoes.
The workout was a bit weak since I had already done physical labor for four hours (not a normal part of my work day) moving an office around. Squats, bench press, situps, pulldowns, calf raises and a 5' run. :goodvibes
So I get home after work and what's waiting? Easter candy! Umm, hello? Diet? Working out? My willpower is great as long as I don't have the temptation in the house. It might be more truthful to say say that my laziness is stronger than the temptation. Putting Easter candy (a giant chocolate rabbit) on the place mat of someone dieting is like giving a recovering alcoholic a shot of whiskey while saying you're being supportive. :sad2:

Machines, free weights or even just pure cardio. All are better than sitting on the sofa. Start easy and increase as you can. You'll never finish the journey if you don't start. :thumbsup2

Progress is progress. You were good on the meal and with the drinks, don't beat yourself up, simply try harder next time on the desserts. No one always succeeds the first time, it's the last time you try that really counts.

i have been "eating healthy" now for three weeks and half lost half a stone (i'm from UK!!)... sorry 8lb!!
all i have done is cut out all my snacking on biscuits (COOKIES!!) and crisps (POTATO CHIPS!!)
i was also unhappy with my disney pics from last year!!
my favorite thing to track my progress is this website....
http://www.sparkpeople.com/
i input everything i eat and it calculates my calorie/carb/fat etc intake
i also add my measurements and weight and have a 'blog' page its a fab site and really keeps me motivated!
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!:banana::banana:

I am so excited I just had to tell ya'll! you know how I said my co-workers were saying I all my slacks looked so baggy? Well, this morning, I thought, "I'm going to try on a pair of smaller jeans" you know, the ones you keep tucked away in the back of your closet? Well, guess what? I put them on and even they are baggy in the legs! Whaaahooo!!! The waist is just a little too big so I can still wear them for a little while but I am so excited.:thumbsup2 I just lost 15 punds but when you are short, it makes a huge difference. Oh, and now I have bird legs! You know, the little old ladies you see at the beach who are thick through the middle and have stick legs? Well, mine are bigger than sticks but you get the picture!:rotfl2:Now all I need are a bunch of cats! No offense to cat lovers - i love all animals!:lovestruc

Oh the dreaded scale day. I'm trying to remind myself it's not all about the number. I've been walking a lot so if I don't see it go down it may mean I've swapped fat for muscle. Food wise I've been doing great. I watch what I eat and I've really cut back of sweets and chips and all that stuff I love. I did great at the buffet yesterday. I did have a slice of cheesecake, but I piled the berries on top of it. I think my body is getting use to all this water. I've noticed is I don't drink a lot I start feeling icky. Well good luck today everyone.

So went a little over on calories today but had a craving and didn't want it to get out of hand so I went a head and had one homemade "Philly cheese steak." It cost me for the full meal w/ broccoli 680 Calories but I am full and feel okay with it.

Still watching what I eat and still resisting the chocolate that is all over my house. Dh is out of town for the week so instead of my walk outside I did 10 min. wii boxing and 30 min free step. I am so bummed. I just want to lose this weight and I feel I'm really giving it my all. Maybe this week will be better.

I strongly suggest you have multiple methods of measuring progress. That way, if your weight stalls for a bit, you'll still see progress in other areas and know that your efforts aren't for nothing. Consider keeping a chart of certain measurements and compare weekly not just weight but those measurements as well as how much effort you're putting into your workouts.
Progress can be measured in weight lost, body fat lost, reduction in an area measured or an improvement in your workout. There's probably some other ways of measuring progress as well. Just using one method can be demoralizing when it doesn't change much for a week or two.

GrumpyOne said it right there is so many ways to measure your progress stay off the scale for a while and just do your thing ... As a woman I can't stand to look at any number measurements or weight.... so I just measure how good I am feeling.... If I am feeling down I exercise either by playing with the DD or the 3 dogs ... and I start to feel better..... Know the saying an "apple keeps the doctor away" .... Well its true eat an apple when your feeling down about how you look and see if it makes you bright and shining .... Your fine Tonya remeber one pound leads to two and then three .... and so on....

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to say that I have not been too good lately. Since Easter Sunday I have been eating way too much and not working out. My work schedule is changed this week because my kids are off from school so I am all out of sorts. Tomorrow (Wed.) I have to make the time to workout. I know I will feel better if I do. I think most of the Easter candy is gone so I should be better from now on.

Yep, rough week so far for me too.
Started Easter. Since my mom passed away last year, family dinners are my responsibility. So, I called two of my brothers and their families to come for dinner after church Sunday. Fixed huge dinner with all the trimmings. Neither showed up. Now,instead of 11 people, I have 3 people to eat all that food and it is a NOT diet food:lmao:
Ended up taking half of it to one brother's house and family so it wouldn't be here to tempt us but this week has just been really tough for lots of reasons. So, start back again tomorrow with renewed energy and strength to do better. It is a journey, not a destination.

I'm the oldest of five so I have been taking care of my siblings (and bossing them around according to them!. all our lives. :lmao:My mom was only 27 and she had 5 kids under the age of 10 so we are a pretty tight group even as adults.
On a brighter note, I have decided to go shopping this weekend for work clothes. I was going to wait until I had lost a little bit more weight but I had to use a paperclip to hold my slacks up Tuesday (didn't have a safety pin) and that is just too risky :rotfl2: Now, if I can just lose 10 more pounds before my trip to WDW.:thumbsup2

I would love to be my normal weight of 160 when I go, but they may be a little unreasonalbe. I would be jumping for joy at 180. So if my math is correct that is 33 pounds:(
It is good to have a group, we can do it.

I started to read the first few pages, but realized that would take forever to finish. So I'm going to hop right in if you guys don't mind. :)
I'm Nicole, 29 year old SAHM (ages 8,4,3,1). I've been having a ton of health problems for a few years now and been to so many doctors. SOOOO many tests. They are still working on me to find out what is going on, but one test did come back bad last time. They told me I'm insulin resistant. My next appointment is still awhile away, so I decided to look it up and found out that one of the best treatments was a low carb/high protein diet. I've been following that for a few weeks now and working out 40-60 min about 5 times a week. It's SOOO hard, but I have seen a major change and feeling better already. As of a week an a half ago, I lost 8.5lbs. My battery in scale is dead, so I haven't weighed in recently. I'm eager to though because I just took some pics today and I can actually see a change.
Here's my start stats and goal:
I'm 5'7
Start weight was 266lbs
Last weigh in 257.5
I would like to to have a total weight loss of 50lbs by Oct 22nd.
Goal weight 216
I think it makes all the difference when you have other women and men striving for the same goal. This is a great thread and I'm glad I found it!

I'm so glad you are feeling better today. And YAY for you for taking a walk to work it out....very constructive!! I never really exercised, but now I'm finding I'm liking the gym. It's either that or deal with the after dinner meltdowns from my 4! LOL. "See ya honey, I'm going to work out!" :P

Hello, Everyone! It's fun to see all the new people post because the more that join the greater the encouragement and support!
I wanted to share this link from Millie's restaurant on Harbour:
http://blanq.com/link/millies.com/public/files/MIL_020%20Smart%20Menu%20Insert_forwebREV.pdf
I joined their e-mail club and they often send me 1/2 price coupons. I also joined Mimi's e-mail club but their specials aren't as great! Anyway, I loved MIllie's new "smart menu" and I am going to use it as a guide to put some new twists into my own menus. I don't know about y'all but I'm getting tired of Lean Cuisines, salads and sandwiches. I need new menu ideas!:confused3

It sounds like you have a good plan. and If you lose weight it'll help you feel better. You must have your hands full with 4 kids. I have two and feel wiped out. Good luck and keep going, I bet you'll meet and exceed your goal by 10/22.

Yep, gals and guys welcome here! A word about insulin resistance: I am not a medical person but have many diabetics in my family and my DD has been one for the past 10 years. She was taking 5-6 insulin shots a day and still her sugar levels were terribly high. She noticed that when we were at WDW, she could drop down to one a day or so. Why? All the walking we did and it didn't mater that we were eating lots of food! My point is that exercise is the key to handling blood sugars and insulin. But you probably already know that! DD has a desk job and gets little exercise normally. She now has an insulin pump and tries to exercise at least threee times a week and there has been a world of difference. If you can just manage to get the exercise in, it will help your body with the insulin so much. Okay. I will stop preaching now. Sorry. I just was amazed and so was DD at how the exercise dramatically affected the insulin.
Anyway - welcome!:)

I so agree!!! I haven't been to the doctor yet. The last doctor wasn't much help. He called me to give me the results and pretty much that was the end of it. So I found a new doctor and my first appt with her is May 18th. I'm just trying to help myself before I see her. I was doing the low carb thing for about a week and a half before I started working out. When I started working out is when I really started feeling good. I'm unsure about my blood sugar levels....don't know if the new doctor will want me to test them or not. But boy have I been feeling good with the workout routine. So it has to be doing something! Oh yeah...my mother found out about a week after me that she is pre-diabetic. So now I'm taking big steps to prevent my kids from facing any of this stuff later on. No more fruit snacks. Only healthy snacks! LOL...The other night I tried to work out. The little gym I go to has windows to a playroom where you can watch your kids while you workout. Well, I had all the kids in there. My 8 year old was trying her hardest to keep the others entertained. She has been so good about helping me get time to workout..bless her. Well anyway, my 3 year old kept getting past her and opening the door....letting the 1 year old out. So that didn't really work out so well. Wish the door had a lock..lol. So I took the little turds home and had them do push ups with me. :thumbsup2

Sorry guys haven't been by ... the weekend became a big blur of things to do....
First it started with Friday about 5 my poor mother calls from the side of the rode broke down... my step-dad is about hr and 1/2 away and can't help her everyone else didn't answer so she called my DH <mechanic of course she calls him last granted we did have our DD and D Nephew(1)> but still we surely would go and help her.... We get to her and with in 3 mins of looking and listen and trying to crawl under the truck on the road my DH knows whats wrong and so we push my mother's truck safely off the road to a parking lot.... The diagnose is not great but not horrible DH can fix it but not in the Walgreen's Parking Lot at 730 pm.... So we have to the truck towed to our house... Lock everything up ... and take my DM where she had to be (River & Spires a local festival)....
Well after getting there we enjoy the festival till she's done working and then my step-dad finally out of his school finals joins us ... WHOHO bed here I come.... NOPE Lisa passes out at festival (guess who forgot to eat almost all day).........
After about 3 hrs on a electrolyte bag and all other kind of wires at our so "Lovely" hospital I get to go home... GOOD gotta be up early Saturday to go back to the silly festival and dance me and DD ....... :headache:
So I get up early enjoy a bowl of Special K .... some milk ... and take some vitamin they prescribed the night before.... I get DD and me ready ... go to walk out the door and realize ... I literally forgot to get MY DRESSED remembered hair and make-up but not my CLOTHES... ran back in house (yep made it outside in my night gown) got dressed ... now I can leave....
Festival again great not crowded found close parking spot .... but lord it stinks ... (keep it down lisa just dance watch DD go home)............
Didn't keep breakfast down .... oh well..... danced ..... went home to refresh makeup and outfits, feed the DD refreshed her makeup, hair, and costume .... now back out door for Dance Pictures .....
After all that finally got home sometime around 5pm on Saturday and my very loving and great DH went and got me Longhorn (skipped diet for that because it was so sweet and great ... Firecracker Chicken Wraps, (1/2) a 14 oz Sirloin w/ Asperagus)
So the end of a very busy weekend is watching the storm roll through and relaxing ... I worked out enough think i deserve a littel break
Anyone else agree ... LOL :rotfl:MAybe I have just finally lost it.
Hope everyone else is doing good :dance3: Hope you enjoyed reading my CRAZY weekend ..... :rolleyes1And I will check in again later today I am sure :grouphug:

OMGoodness Lisa!!! I can't believe you passed out. Thankg goodness you are okay. I've been to the point where half the day is gone and just remembered I didn't eat. It's not good, but sometimes life gets so busy and half the day is gone before we know. Ugh...I can't imagine how bad that sucked. I'm glad everything is behind you and you can relax now. You deserved a little cheat. ;)
I hadn't really had much workout time in the last few days. DH had to work some late shifts and I wasn't able to get to the gym. I tried to take the kids with me one time, but they kept escaping the playroom..lol. So I got a short workout in, but not much. I wanted to go yesterday, but was feeling really bad. My heart was pounding so hard for no reason. I took it easy. This morning DH suggested that we walk the trails near the golf course. It's a 3 mile trail...VERY hilly and gravel. I thought, okay...maybe I'll do a mile...MAYBE 1.5 miles. My heart still was acting crazy so I didn't want to over do it. Well...1 mile passes, then 1.5...at this point if we turned back I would walk way more. So I did the whole thing! I even jogged a bit. Which, I'm not in any way shape or form a jogger! At 1.8 miles, there was a baracade blocking off the path because of recent construction. DH hadn't jogged it in awhile, so he had no idea. He said he would get the car for me, but I refused. At this point my fingers were swelling up like little hot dogs. Darn blood pressure. I didn't want to quit though. I knew if I quit I would really let myself down. So I paced and try to add a little jogging in here and there. I did it. DH even tried to walk through the grass when we saw our car in the parking lot. I didn't let him though...insisted he finish on the path...lol. I did just over 3.5 miles because of the baracade and having to turn back. It might not be much to some people, but it was a big sucess for me. At one point I kept saying I need to train myself for all the walking in the parks...I told DH that last mile was for Mickey!!! :yay:

Good for you for finishing on the trail. Be careful with your blood pressure, you don't want to overdue it. I love the "Last mile for Mickey" Way to go!:cheer2:
I have been terrible about dieting and exercising. I posted a few days ago about how bad I have been but it has not gotten any better. I had a few stressful days, one was an argumet with DH, everything is fine now but I hate when we argue. Another thing was our car had problems that cost us $600.00 to get fixed. Then I stupidly went to try on bathing suits after eating a huge lunch when I felt really full and bloated. :scared1: NOT a good time to go bathing suit shopping! I am feeling much better now and Monday the boys go back to school and I go back to my regular work schedule and I am ready to try to lose as much of the weight I gained back as I can before my trip. It will be here before I know it. I am so excited. :cool1::cheer2::yay: I am a little nervous too. I feel like it is almost coming too fast and now I have so much to do. I just have to stop and breathe and know that it will all get done. It always does and I am a procrastinator anyway, it's just my nature to wait till the last min. I will be fine. :thumbsup2
O.K...now that I rambled on and on I am going to try to go to sleep. It is almost 1:00 am and I need to get up early. For some reason I am wide awake. I plan on working out at least 4 days this week, tracking all my food and making sure I get in all my water and fruits and veggies. I know what has to be done, I just have to do it!
O.K...NOW I am going to go.
Good night!

Good night!
Loralie
I'm sorry you have been having a difficult time lately. Stress really can put a damper on things, but you are right. Just keep going. Or as Dory would say, "Just keep swimming....." I am a "bored/emotional eater." So when times got tough I reached for my favorite comfort foods. Well, since I've changed my eating habits, that is not an option anymore. Working out really does help clear my mind and reduce stress. I know I've been hearing that for years and use to think "whatever." It really has been helping me though. I came across a few videos on utube last night of people doing the Disney marathons.....SO inspirational!

Got up early .... I mean EARLY this morning (4 AM) and went to the SO(sheriff officer's) gym with my sister before she went to work... Loved it ... so many cops/ goofballs in one place ... and seemly no pressure to show off or look good even as the only girls... huh that's new @ a gym....
Anyhow my sister is a Deputy and our county started a "Healthy Deputy and Family" program last week anyone in the officer's family (husband, wives, children, siblings, parents, etc.) can join ... mostly free they ask for monthly donations from anyone who wants to come in... NO SET FEE :scared1: Just pay what you can once a month... :wizard: BLESS YOU CHILD ....It was actually a very nice gym not fancy with "BIG" TV's every where ... one in the water/juice room (small room with water, sports drinks, and some coffee <of course no donuts, darn>) not having a radio or TV in the actual fitness area forced everyone to kinda talk to each other... NEAT I like to talk (ya'll can tell that)
But it was really fun ... we ran on the treadmill spoke with the 3 trainers all of which gave us their full attention (WOW) now granted it wasn't crowded but they said "It won't ever be... because its only open to the SO's"
Had to share because even with it being in the basement of the Sheriff's Office... and not Big and Fancy, Shinning and new (great got some old 80's song stuck in my head now :rolleyes1) it was the most fun I have ever had in a gym ... and the company ... HILARIOUS (:lmao:) .....Who knew cops knew how to laugh so much!
Anyhow if I didn't workout as much as I should have :yay: I still got my exercise trying not to pee myself as I laughed so hard at all their stories and jokes :lmao: Learned :teacher: something about my "SERIOUS ALL THE TIME" Sheriff Deputy sister ... she's just as funny :rotfl2:
:cheer2:To all of you and hope you get just as good as a laugh :rotfl: sometime today ... because "Getting Healthy should be fun" (to quote Jim, Trainer B) :grouphug:
OH & ITS NOT DIETING ITS TRYING TO GET HEALTHY & LIVE HEALTHY FROM NOW ON (yep trainer B, Jim again)
:hippie:Peace and Love to all!

Great job working out Lisa. I just wanted to post that I really feel back on track right now and I just finished working out. I did a 45 min. step aerobic workout and it really kicked my butt. I am a sweaty mess right now :rotfl:and I LOVE it!
Well I have to go and take a shower and rush off to work. I hope everyone has a great day,

It seems like everyone is off to a great start.
I'd like to join the weight loss thread! I can use the support.
I just started weight watchers on Saturday (on my own, no meetings). But I know how to do the program from doing in once (or twice!) before.
Lisa -I'm glad you enjoyed your experience at the fitness center with your sister. Enjoying the workout and the company is half the battle. It will make it easier for you to get your body over there.
Have a great day all, will check in later.
I'm going to get some exercise myself, now :yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

Lisa- good job with the working out. Keep it up, but remember to snack a little during the day. We don't want to hear about you passing out again.
I ventured onto the scale last night and guess what...2lbs gone!:thumbsup2 I was shocked and amazed. Finally progress. I've been eating really well and even DH is impressed. He did look at me funny when at a diner I got a salad and ate it with no dressing. Small steps and soon we all will look good in the next round of Disney photos.

Sad to report that the only exercise i got this weekend was worshipping the goddess of porcelain. :worship:Apparently, I got a case of food poisoning Saturday at lunch and spent Saturday evening throwing up and Sunday mroning in bed. Finally, Sunday evening, I could keep down some crackers and Sprite. Rough weekend. That's what I get for eating someone else's potato salad anyway! :rotfl2:
Haven't weighed yet but that should have taken off some pounds - I didn't eat for almost two days.

You are such a pal to encourage me! I am much better today. Yesterday was still weak and dizzy but back on track today. Wlaked the dog for 30 minutes this evening. Wore him slap out! I did fine. Didn't break a sweat and could have gone on but the little guy was huffing and puffing so I had pity on him and we came home.
Lisa: Hope you are doing well this evening.
Hope everyone had a great day. Be good to yourselves. Remember: tomorrow is another day and brings a fresh start!:thumbsup2

Can anyone explain this BMI index to me? I went to a website, put in my weight and height, and saw that according to my BMI, I only needed to take in 1,199 calories a day. Oh, and that I should take 500 calories of that off if I wished to lose weight. After taking in 575 calories for a day, I am feeling wicked sleepy. I don't understand how this is calculated at all. I also don't know how to figure in taking the kids to school, doing laundry, walking for and hour and a half, getting child home, making lunch for school the next day, making dinner and doing dishes. Oh, and lol, my favourite packing for disney. This doesn't seem logical at all.
Have a great trip all of you,

I did really well yesterday with the food and exercising. For today my problem is that I have been up since 3:30 am. It is 6:40 am right now. I did do a quick 10 min. workout with my DH this morning so even though it is not enough of a workout for me at least I got a little bit in. I have to wake the kids and get them ready for school and then I usually do my workout after they leave but before I have to go to work but I am so tired right now that I don't know if I can workout. I feel like even if I attempt it I will just be going through the motions because I am too tired. Maybe I can rest and then try to workout later. I will see. Anyway...I have to go, just wanted to check in here and say that I did really well with the food yesterday. I tracked everything I ate and I did not eat the cookies that are in the pantry. :rotfl:
Have a good day everyone,

I just came across this post. We too are going in Sept to FW cabins and I'd love to get 40-50 lbs off before we leave. I've battled my weight all my life and I'm 45 yrs old. Sometimes I just say, "it is what it is" and I'm tired of trying. This a.m., I'm off to the Y for the first time in 3 wks. I was on a good run of 3 times a week from end of Jan until first of April but I didn't lose more than 2 lbs. I was doing Weight Watchers on my own (been there, done that so I have all the info) but...well, those of you who have been on this yo-yo know what I mean. I'll try this AGAIN and keep an eye on everyone else's posts...maybe I'll learn something new. :surfweb:

Wanted to address you first .... your Body Mass Index calculates your fat/water/muscle percentage. As for the calorie intake you should never take in less than 1000 Calories a day. This being said your "maximum" calorie range should be 1000 to 1200 (this is healthy and will help to keep from getting sick, excessively tired, and allow you to function). Also as far as "taking off" 500 calories this is meant for you to "Burn" these 500. Not sure what site you used but I wanted to really make sure you NEVER go there a again... To be healthy is great but less than 1000 Calories FOR anyone is unsafe. Hope this helped also try this BMI Plus: Calorie Intake Site (http://www.webmd.com/diet/calc-bmi-plus/)
Everyone be aware as former fitness teacher and a nurse anytime you look up health issues, symptoms, or any thing to do with weight loss try to stick with Government supervised site.... That being said here is the most recommend sites by doctors, nurse practitioners, and used by all Emergency Medical Centers in the USA.
WebMD (http://www.webmd.com/)
Medline Plus (http://www.medlineplus.gov/)
Hope this helped you guys especially miraged.

Congrats on the 2lb weight loss maidenfairy!!!!
ckdsnynt, I'm so sorry. I hope you feel better soon.
miraged...that bmi info does NOT sound healthy at all! I like to use WebMD for most of my medical info. I'm assuming that the 500 or so calories they were mentioning were calories to burn. Not to exclude. No wonder you were so weak..you poor thing.
Welcome to all the new guys stopping in. I'm sorry you have to be here, but I'm glad you found us.
We had some horrible storms tonight, so I didn't really want to drive out to the gym. DH came home with presents for me though!!! He kept telling me how proud he was of me. I think my keeping up with him on the 3.5 miles the other day impressed him. My presents....a 500gb external drive (I take ALOT of high quality pics), Don King Boxing (for the wii fit).......AND a new camcorder!!!!! Which I SO wanted one for Disney, but when our car broke ($700  ), I wrote that idea off. So I think I'm gonna try the new boxing game tonight. I love the regular wii boxing (my arms are sore for days afterwards), but this uses the fit board too. Anyway...sorry to brag, but I'm excited! LOL

I am going in Sept. also, I would also love to weight 40-50 lbs less. It is the hardest thing that I have done. I cleaned my closet today, I put all the beautiful size 10 clothes up, then I did the cute size 12, then the 14's to just get by. What was left --- 16's. I am going to do my best everyday and realize I am going to have bad days.

Hi Lisa, How dose the photopass share work?
As far as I am doing I could be doing better. I only did a quick 10 min. workout with my DH yesterday. I was so tired from lack of sleep that I did not workout later like I thought I would. I also ate a little too much yesterday. Nothing really bad but too many 100 cal snacks. I have to be careful with the food. I am so good at work but when I come home it is like I just want to keep eating and eating. today is a new day and I will not let a bad eating day become a bad eating week. O.K....I gotta go. I will check back a little later.

Have a great time at POFQ. I have never stayed there but did love CBR when we were there in 2005. For our trip it will be DH, DS13, DS11 and me. We are on the basic dining plan but I am nervous about my 11 year old. He basically eats chicken strips, pizza or pasta. He does not like hamburgers, hot dogs or mac and cheese. Weird, I know. My 13 year old is a little bit of a better eater so I am no worried about him. We will be staying at the GF May 15 to May 22. I am still pinching myself that we are staying at the GF, thanks to the buy 4 get 3 deal. :woohoo: It's funny how we are getting to WDW the same day but our tickers are off by 1 day. :confused3
Have you started getting everything ready? My DH pretty much has everything he needs and my kids have most of their clothes. I want to buy them new sneakers and have them wear them before the trip. I will have to do that this weekend. I on the other hand need so much stuff I am starting to feel overwhelmed. I guess I have to go shopping for myself this weekend too. I have hardly any summer clothes but I did get 2 new bathing suits so I am good in that area. ;)

Ugh...I'm sorry. I hope you get this figured out quickly!
I haven't been able to weigh in for awhile..thought battery was dead. I kept replacing it, but it still wasn't working. I got a new scale last night and couldn't believe it! As of this morning I lost 17.2lbs since the start of this all. Roughly 3 weeks ago. I know it seems like a lot, but I'm doing everything right....totally not starving myself. It's the low carbs and working out I tell you! I had posted a couple of days ago about my heart pounding. Well after a short 30 minute workout yesterday I started getting this chest pain and pressure. It was going down my arms, up my neck, into back. I was having problems breathing. I was trying to not overreact...but it was getting bad. DH left work and took me to ER...they ran EKG, bloodwork and Xrays. Everything looked fine, but the ER doc wants me to contact my doctor have them hook me up to a monitor. Started with a "H" but can't remember the name of it...I would have to wear it for a week and phone in my results. I was so worried that it was going to be something wrong and I'd have to stop working out. She told me I can still work out, but if I feel like that again get to the hospital. I did get some GREAT news...my blood pressure and blood sugar levels have both gone back to normal!!! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to get this news. When I first started this, it wasn't about the weight to me. I have four small children and when the doctor told me I was insulin resistant..all I could think was that I would die early and they would be the ones to suffer. The weight loss is wonderful, but getting healthy and watching my vitals go back to normal is what I really want.

Hi!! I just found this thread and I'm right there with you all! I'd like to lose 20 pounds before my Disney trip in August. In 2005, I went on the South Beach Diet and lost 25 pounds over a period of 8 months. Although I was happy with my weight loss, I was never happy with my fitness level. I guess I managed to keep most of the weight off for about 2 years. Over the past 14 months or so, I've managed to regain just about all of the weight. I think some of it has to do with hitting 40. It is much harder for me to lose weight.
But honestly, some of it is just lack of motivation and commitment on my part. I think I have lost and regained the same 5 pounds 4 times since January of this year! I'll have a great week of diet and exercise and blow it on the weekend.
DH is in the same boat as me - he lost lots of weight at the same time that I did and he's put it all back on. We started dieting again this Monday - I've been very good. I've also started a walking program. I'm trying to walk 2.5 - 3 miles at least 4 times per week.
I hope you don't mind if I join your support group here. I've always found it helpful to have people to "talk" to about the struggles and challenges of weight loss! :cheer2:

Hi just found this post and hoping its ok to jump on board. I have the baby fat too. My DD is 3 1/2 now so yelp right with ya ladies that its just fat now. I quit smoking a month ago and gained 10 pounds BAMM!! Thought that was a lie that you gain some weight quitting. I think it took me all of 2 weeks to put on that much. I want to lose 26 pounds total by my trip in August. I want to lose 15 by June since I have a reunion to go to. And now since im 40 (ouch still hurts to say that) the weight aint coming off like it used to
Congrats on quiting smoking. :yay::cool1::cheer2: that is an awesome accomplishment. Think of all the money you will save too, I can't believe how expensive smoking is now. Just take it one day at a time and I am sure you will make it to your goal. Just don't ever give up. I am also turning 40 in November and I am freaking out a little bit about it. :scared1: I wanted to go to Disney World for my 40th birthday but we would not be able to take off from work at that time so we will be there in 22 days!:cheer2: I told DH we can make this my birthday gift, anniversary gift, Christmas gift etc. I am just so excited to go. Welcome to the group, the people here are very helpful and motivating.

I have lost 68 pounds on weight watchers and over the last 3 months I have gained back 15 pounds. I have been trying to lose the 15 pounds but it is not easy. I just keep telling myself that if I don't give up I will make it to my goal. I realized that when I give up watching what I eat and give up exercising , that is when the weight comes back so I just tell myself that I will be doing this for the rest of my life. Anyway...I am also trying to help my DH lose weight and it is not easy. I think a walking program is a great idea and the weather is getting warmer so it will be nice to walk outside. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I would like to say:thanks: for all the support here. I went to the gym twice this week and worked out longer than normal b/c I knew I couldn't let my DIS friends down. Believe it or not this board is really giving me motivation. I want to be able to post my trip-report pics and not think 'why didn't I try harder to look better'.
So thank you to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
This week I got to the gym and worked my abs at home and instead of getting a snack before bed I'd just get up and go to bed.
I did have a break down and eat a candy bar one night (but I have had cramps so bad for days that I really just needed something chocolatey). But I didn't let it ruin the next day.
Again thank you everyone!
You all just understand! My husband stepped on the scale yesterday and said "wow I haven't even tried to loose weight and I think I'm eating the same and I lost 5lbs"- are you kidding me????? He has been to the gym twice in 9 months and lords knows it's not that he is cutting back on beer.
UGH>>>men!
Have a great day! Today it is suppose to be about 80 here- in central New York it is very rare to be that nice in April. So I am going to get outside and take a walk and play with my daughter.

Good for you! I'm taking the day off! I just came in from putting together a swing set for DGDs. My husband and I actually worked together and didn't speak an unkind word, have one fight or disagreement. It's a miracle! :rotfl2:Oh, and we got it all done except for one piece that we need to buy bolts for since the package was short. DGDs will be so happy when they see it.

I know exactly what you mean! I tried on swim suits at the mall today and what is up with their mirrors? They are like the Fun House at the State Fair:lmao: I look short and fat - Oh wait, I am short and fat!:rotfl2: But no kiding, at home, I just didn't look that bad but any time you try on stuff in the store, you look worse! :confused3 Don't you think they should put mirrors in the dessing rooms that make you look better than you do at home? That way, people would buy more stuff.:thumbsup2
I have three weeks till we leave so I need to get off my rear and start walking more consistently and eating a tad bit better so I will feel a little better before we leave. If I manage to lose a few pounds, even better. Gotta get the focus back!

Swimsuit...what the heck is a swimsuit? My top half looks fabulous (thanks to a wonderful doctor ) but the lower 1/2 is just wrong on too many levels to consider putting it into a bathing suit

Combining my fast with prayer, of course! Truthfully I do not think this is such a great idea. You may lose a little weight temporally but I don't think it will last and then when you go back to eating regularly, you may gain it back. Sorry, I don't mean to be a downer but it just does not sound like something you can live with for the rest of your life. I have done slimfast in the past and it works for a while but the weight always came back. Eating right and exercising is a much better way to go. Good luck with whatever you decide t do.

Not a downer at all and Thanks for your good wishes! This is exactly why I subscribe to this thread. I need your feedback and support. :grouphug:
I know fasting appears to be a quick, temporary fix! That's why I don't want to do it for an extended period! I really intend to eat healthy the rest of the week, in fact the rest of my life! I don't want to live my life obsessed with food and my weight! I want to eat to live, not live to eat! My battle with food is unhealthy and I need to get some control over it. I just need a little motivation, scale wise! I want results and am hoping this this drastic caloric reduction will help.
Currently my weight is 155. My goal is 145. I'm so hung up on numbers and just want to get there! In my heart I know that I'll have to be a "weight watcher" for ever and I am learning to moderate my food portions and make healthier choices thanks to everyone that posts here! :yay:

Fasting must be done delicately I know your are combining this with prayer so heres a lovely site you may get so good information from ... http://www.ccci.org/growth/growing-closer-to-god/how-to-fast/index.aspx
On the other note havent got to check in in a while ... so busy this weekend feel like I have done nothing but run and while running from place to place I am sure I made some bad choices ... so trying to get back on track ... starting with my Special K Protein water instead of the lovely looking ice cream cone my DD had after dinner tonight ... Lisa - you had me LOL with your comment about "taking" your daughter for her ice cream. I am sure we have all had those thoughts about our kids and their snacks. :lmao:
As for me I feel like I am in a really good place right now. I am doing weight watchers and even though I am still 7 pounds over the weight watcher goal and 13 pounds over my personal goal, I have been really doing well so I feel good. Here is an example. With weight watchers they work on a point system. Based on your height and weight and age and gender, they determine how many points you are allowed to eat every day. Then on top of that you also get an additional 35 extra points to use during the week. I weigh in every Saturday and I am very good during the work week with my points so I usually use most of my 35 points on the weekend. Well...I am happy to report that I have been very good about tracking all my food and today is Monday and I only used 7 of the 35 points on the weekend. :woohoo: That is a HUGE accomplishment for me. I also exercised yesterday and I plan on exercising 5 days this week.
I went to Old Navy this weekend to get some clothes for my trip. I was having a really hard time finding things to look good on me. I feel like I have gotten smaller but even though I exercise, I am still flabby here and there. Especially in the lower stomach area. I was able to buy 3 pairs of shorts and 2 shirts. I must have tried on a million things but this was all I could find and I still wish I was more toned so I would look better in the clothes. Anyway...instead of getting upset, it just made me want to work on toning my abbs more.
Well I have rambled on and on and now I have to get to work.

Ladies,
Can I join too!!?? I am my heaviest ever right now (not including when I was pregnant with twins!)
I joined Weight Watchers last week, I NEED to do this! I am unhealthy and look and feel terrible.
Our trip is scheduled for October 19 and I'd love to loose at least 25 lbs by then. Having other Disney-loving people on board with me losing weight would really help.
Thanks!!

Hi everyone,
I wanted to know if it is too late for me to join the group. I am at my heaviest weight. Yes past Disney pictures has made me realize that I have to do something. I usually go about 3 times a year, and I was last there for Thanksgiving and the pictures were nice, but I did not realize I look like that. I am eating smaller portions and trying to cut back on the sodas. I am looking into getting a personal trainer, so I can learn how to exercise correctly. I am not sure about you all, but I notice that I am losing weight, but my stomach remains the same. How do I get rid of my stomach?
Current weight: 200lbs
Height: 5’4”
Next trip July: want to be down 20lbs, that losing 2 lbs a week. Will be 180lbs.
Graduation trip end of Sept: want to be down 20lbs, with losing 2 lbs a week. Will be 160lbs.
Goal weight: 150-160lbs.

Thanks!! Welcome. I love weight watchers and had lost a total of 72 pounds using weight watchers but then I gained back 13 pounds over the last few months and I am working on getting back to my goal. Do you go to the meetings? I felt the meetings were very helpful. This thread is great, lots of support here.

Welcome to the group. Sounds like you are doing great. Smaller portions and getting a personal trainer will help so much. I don't really know what to tell yo about the stomach part. I think it is the last part to go. As I mentioned before I have lost a lot of weight doing weight watchers and exercising and of course I have gotten smaller than I was but my stomach and the back of my arms are my problem areas. The experts say that you can't spot reduce body parts. You have to lose fat through burning calories and you will get smaller. I guess weight training will make you toner and more fit. I guess your trainer will help you more with that. Good luck and keep us updated on how you are doing.

Just checking in to say that I am doing really well with my food and I already exercised this morning. I did a really hard, 45 min. workout. I was a sweaty mess when I was done but I felt so good. Tonight I am going to do a 20 min. abb routine. I really need to work on my abbs.
I hope everyone else is having a great day.

Hi there. Can I join? I'm actually leaving 2 weeks from Friday and driving to DW, arrivingon May 16. Going with a couple of friends. I've been "thinking" I've needed to lose weight for several years. But, I'm also a "foodie." I love the tastes and textures of food! And I'm not one of those that likes to chew and then spit out. I train horses part time and have realized I really need to drop the extra 30 pounds if I want to keep my knees and back in decent shape. A few months ago, I had a couple of things cause some extra stress in my life. I have plenty of stress factors (like we all do) to begin with, these just kicked it over the edge. Apparently, the kick I needed - while I am still a foodie, I've just lost the desire to taste or try all those wonderful sounding things. Basically, I completely lost my appetite. :scared1: It's back now, but at a more controllable level.
So,
weight when I started around 165
I don't have a scale, but at my parents house helping out one day, jumped on their scale (about 2 weeks ago) and was down to 153.
height 5'4"
goal weight 130
I'm aiming to just keep an eye on my caloric intake per day. I'm a little afraid of the trip, though. First night there, dinner at Cinderella's Castle, next day, lunch with Pooh!

I had a bad accident last year - tore 2 ligaments in my ankle and was laid up for months with that. Needless to say, I was already outta shape and laying around didn't help. I am overweight too. I had a wake up call with some routine bloodwork that came back, and I got flagged for elevated triglyceride levels. THat was devastating but also a wake up call. I have worked on improving my eating habits and that alone brought down my level 50 points. I go for blood work at the end of this week and will see how it's doing now that I have been walking regularly, as 2 months ago I began walking. Literally baby steps and now I am doing a few miles a day. Very little weight loss, but I am going for stamina and endurance at this point. OUr last Disney trip was Oct 08 and I was a mess. I enjoyed myself but not as much as previous trips. I also battle chronic back pain from a fall.. I just would wear out at the parks, have to sit frequently and rest, pop some pain meds.
So anyways,, I am hoping my walking pays off when we hit Disney in late June. I am excited as this is a goal. I have a treadmill in my basement, and I taped up pics of the parks to look at and remind me why I was on that dang treadmill when I first started out. Now I look at my pics and keep thinking about what rides I wanna do when we get there.
I have just begun to really watch my calorie intake. I am just counting/weighing my portion sizes and that is starting to make a difference, I have lost 5lbs so far.

Just wanted to post my progress....Tuesday is my weigh in day for Weight Watchers. I was down 1.6 this week for a total of 5.2 lbs lost in 3 weeks. I'm pretty happy!
Let's hope I can keep it up! I did my High School Musical Dance game yesterday for almost 2 hours and was sweating it up :)

Congrats on the weight loss. :cheer2: I feel like I have been going up and down for the past few weeks losing the same few pounds. I lost last week so if I lose at my weigh in on Saturday I will have broken the cycle. Does that make sense? :rotfl: Anyway...I have been so good with tracking my food and exercise this week that if I don't lose it wont be because of anything I did wrong!
I just finished working out and let me tell you guys, I was not in the mood to do it. I woke up tired and just felt lazy but I forced myself to do it and now I feel great. I am so happy I did not give in to those lazy feelings. Some days are easier than others and we just have to push through it.
Have a great day.

Just checking in. I haven't been on much but I'm still plugging away on the weight loss. I am doing great on the eating part, but the exercise part is lacking. That is my focus this month. My diet is going great I just need to move more. Good luck everyone and it's great seeing people getting closer to their goals.

Hi there.
Welcome! We will be there on the 16th too. My goal was to be much slimmer then but looks like I am not going to make it:sad2: Oh, well, I have lost some and will keep on plugging away at it. Maybe I will make my goal before the next trip.:thumbsup2 I generally do fine at WDW because I do so much walking and swimming that it offsets my eating. Even though I don't eat everything healthy, I do much better than I used to and since my stomach has shrunk so much, it take much less to fill me up. On the dining plan, I try to use my snacks to nibble on healthier choices rather than eat big meals many hours apart and I have our ADRS scheduled early so we are not eating late at night.
Good luck to you.:)

Hi All!
Well my excerising has been going well but I still have not lost any weight, maybe b/c I could do better on the food front....
The past two days I have been waking up early before work and going for a 1 mile walk and I have been going to the gym twice a week. I know it is a long way up hill (it seems) to get to my goal but at least I have started climbing rather than just looking at the hill and thinking there is no way I can do it.:confused3
Today when I was walking I didn't feel so out of breath- so it is getting easier.:cheer2:
If there are any english teachers out there reading this I know there are a lot of run on sentences in this message - LOL :lmao:
Have a good night!

We would make the perfect dieter. You have the exercise and I have become calorie counting machine. If we were the wonder twins I'd say, let our powers combine.

Maybe we'll run into each other sometime during the stay! I'm not sure that I'll make my goal weight - that's a lot to drop in just the next 2.5 weeks, but, I'm gonna keep plugging away after I get back!
Didn't think about the walking and swimming. I think I tend to plateau in weight loss because I stay more physically active, but my eating can go off - depending on times of the month, etc, how much physical work I've done on fencing, etc. I spend my weekends fixing paddocks at home, generally, so sometimes, there's a lot of work involved. But, good point! I'm hoping to continue watching what I eat for the week I'm there! Taking LOTS of water to drink. Keeps me from wanting to munch all the time!

Not an English teacher, but I did major in it... I have a tendency to write run ons when I'm not paying attention all the time! Too much to say, not enough time!

HOLY COW!!!!! :scared1:
OK, first, as a concussion queen, OW! I had a dance partner drop me and I landed smack on my head on concrete. Only one of my very many concussions. I am so sorry girl! Good Night Nurse! Bless your heart! And then you find out you have to eat 1300 cal a day no matter what. Gracious. Keep yourself with plenty of protein and hydration, and get some rest. My goodness. My heart just goes out to you! I really hope you feel better soon! And your hubby! Man, ya'll had a day!
