We're thinking about going in Sept with the Free Dining Plan. I remember people mentioning in the past that it was hard to get where they wanted for sit down restaurants, with so many people booking.
So, if we can't get into a sit down restaurant that we want, can we downgrade a sitdown credit or two to counter service?

During free dining they have allowed this, but I don't recall the conditions or the time frame. I wouldn't count on it, personally. Better to make ADRs and cancel them if it turns out you don't want to use them than to count on a trade that may or may not be offered.

In the past during the free dining period Disney has had a plan in place where people could trade a TS credit for one CS plus a freebie. Two years ago it was 1 TS=1 CS plus a lanyard with two pins. Last year it was 1 TS=1CS plus two snack coupons or one mesh tote. This year who knows?
The only other time substituting has been allowed is a few times at resort CS, where people have been allowed to do a one for one swap, but usually a manager must be called in to override the system.
