Myley Cyrus to play Dorothy in Disney's remake of the Wizard of Oz. What's next Billy as the Wizard. Say it isn't so Toto. I guess we really aren't in Kansas anymore. :)

The OP is taking advantage of April Fool's. Don't be fooled.
However, while we're on the subject...
Disney doesn't own the rights to remake "TWOO". It did make "Return to Oz" back in the 1980s, but that's a different story.
There are currently three remakes of TWOO that I know of... One is by MacFarlane (the guy who did "Spawn") and he wants a more manly version of the tale.
Another remake is the CG version by John Boorman who directed "Deliverance" and the greatest movie of all time "Excalibur" :). That's due out in 2010.
Finally, Sci-Fi Channel is doing "Tin Man" which I believe is a six-part mini-series.

Correction - DID "Tin Man" - in three parts, in 2007... :)
One of the actors, Neil McDonough, made statements that implied the possibility of a full series, but the SCI FI Channel (soon to be "SyFy" - sigh) said that beyond some talking, nothing is happening yet.

You're right. My bad. I didn't watch it but I knew about it.

I think you only fooled one on this one... :) Even the subject screamed "This posting is an April Fools joke" to me :) I just threw in a twist.
Also, there is far too much news that is even more bizarre, but true...

Oh my god! This must be an April fools joke too! Go, rent it now! I've been trying to decide whether my DD5 is ready to watch it yet. But, it's a must see.
And don't forget, Disney already did a remake - The Muppet Wizard of Oz a few years back, where Kermit was the scarecrow and Fozzie was the Lion I think.

Not a joke, can't stomach Judy Garland or that aweful song. Have seen the play and not fond of the flying monkeys either. Just yucky all round.

Agreed. One of the most overrated films ever...
Now if we were to see the film version of the Musical WICKED....

Talk about deja-vu (in terms of "controversy" surrounding the character of Dorothy in a Disney-produced version of the Wizard of Oz)!
Over fifty years ago (way back in August of 1957), Walt Disney announced he was going to produce a full feature film sequel to the 1939 MGM classic called "The Rainbow Road to Oz." His plan was to cast the primary roles in it with the original nine Mousketeers (Sharon Baird, Bobby Burgess, Lonnie Burr, Tommy Cole, Annette Funicello, Darlene Gilespie, Cubby O'Brein, Karen Pendelton and Doreen Tracy). Some short preview musical numbers from the planned movie were actually shot and ran on the fourth anniversary "Disneyland" TV show in September of '57:

However, as the plans for the production moved foward a minor stink erupted. Darelene Gillespie had been cast in the plum role of Dorothy. However, a rivalry of sorts (in terms of who was going to be the star female mousketeer on the Mickey Mouse Club show) had already been simmering between her and Annette Funicello, and it erupted in late 1957. Darlene started making noises that fall to the producers whenever Annette got higher billing than her, which eventually led to them (and Walt) to view her as troublesome. That led to the canning of the whole OZ project and the eventual end of Gillespies career with Disney.

They are going to do a musical and movie based on the life of Judy Garland though. She will be played by Anne Hathaway.
