Any downside to re-booking while onboard?

If we enjoy our 4-day cruise in Jan '03, I intend to book a 7-day while onboard to take advantage of the $200 credit. I understand that the price will be the same as if booking on the DCL website but I can:

1) Move the ressie to Dreams Unlimited to take advantage of any discounts that they can find for me

2) Change dates/itineraries if the mood strikes me (assuming 60+ days out)

3) Cancel without penalty (assuming 60+ days out)

Is there any downside? Why would anyone who think they even MIGHT take another DCL cruise not book onboard and then change the reservation later to fit their schedule?

What am I missing?

The only down side I saw was the deposit of $250 per person, but we thought it was worth the investment

You're not missing anything, you're exactly right -- there ARE no downsides to booking while on the cruise! You can always switch the date or cancel altogether, and you can transfer the cruise to Dreams to get additional rebates and discount checking. Plus it's the ONLY way to get the Castaway Club shipboard credit on your next cruise!

As long as you can pay the deposit while on the cruise definitely book the next one while onboard. :)

When we booked our May 2003 cruise while on board they asked if we wanted to keep our same agent (which was Dreams). By the time we got home we had our confirmation e-mail from Dreams and when looking it up on the site we found we had a $75 rebate. We didn't have to lift a finger.

Is the $200 credit available if you only book a 3 or 4 night cruise? Or do you have to book a 7 night to get this credit?

4 night is $100

I don't think 3 night is any form of stateroom credit.

We're doing the May 10th Western. We booked it while on our 4-day Wonder cruise on May 12th.

I hate to bring this up again, BUT, I want to be clear on this.

While I am on my 3 day cruise, if I re-book a 7 day cruise at Disney prices and get the $200 credit, I can then transfer the booking to a travel agent (i.e, Dreams Unlimited, etc) and the price would be what Dreams Unlimited is quoting.

I know, I know, I just want to be clear.

When you book on board they will quote you a price. When they are filling out all the info (they have it on hand from your existing reservation) they will ask if you want to go with the same travel agent (in our case Dreams and this is assuming you used Dreams for your 3-day). We said yes and that was all we had to do. We received written confirmation the next day from Disney (via fish mail - the fish outside our door). When we got home we had gotten e-mails from Dreams confirming our reservation and deposit. In looking it over on their site we also noticied that we had qualified for thier rebate. The quote of the trip was the same.

Since the quote you are getting on board is the same as you would get from DCL if you called in from home on that same day there is no difference. The big plus to booking on board is that $200 shipboard credit on your next cruise.

We did not use Dreams, however, I wish we did. When I was checking prices though, the prices through travel agents for the cruises were less than a direct Disney quote. The way I was reading some of these posts, when you "transferred" the booking to a travel agent, you got THEIR price. Am I making sense????????????

Kml2000, yes, if you book onboard you can then transfer your reservation to Dreams once you return, and you would then be eligible for the Dreams rebate as well. Everything else on your reservation would remain as is, including your stateroom and Castaway Club credit. And if for some reason the price went DOWN Dreams would have it adjusted for you. :D

Thank you very much for your replies. This is something I had planned to do - book on board for next year. I have not been pleased with my current travel agent, which I booked before I found these boards, etc.

OK, I have a cruise booked for December that I booked last year while on the ship in November. I am trying to change the dates to Oct 26-Nov2 but Disney will not let me.
