Okay, I know I know. It's a little early but I'm excited. We missed out on the last one as we hadn't even thought about cruising when those cruises were announced. But we definitely want to be on the Wonder when it heads out to LA. :cool1:

So who's in with us? :thumbsup2

It's going to be DH, me, DD (11 at the time of sailing) and my parents. I told my mom I really wanted them on the boat and that I would pay if they couldn't afford it. So I asked her to start thinking about the type of stateroom she needed. Her response "Honey if you're paying I need a verandah!" :lmao: Gotta love mom!!! :rotfl2:

Depending on what time of the year it sails, we'll be on it! My husband and I went on it last year and it was awesome. My DD graduates in 2011 so if it sails in the summer we'll be there, but I am hearing it maybe anywhere from Jan-Apr that it will sail.

I would definitely book into that cruise! We did the Repo in 2005 from LA to Orlando. LOVED that trip -- and REALLY loved Disneyland. That would be awesome to be on the ship when they permanently move her to LA. Fingers crossed that the dates are after my daughter's college classes end .

Oh, but we also want to be on the "inaugural" sailings of the new ship that year. Ahhh, too many choices and not enough time or money

Count me in as someone who would love to be on a PC cruise! My MIL is from Panama, and my DH was born in the Panama Canal Zone, so we've been wanting to do a cruise through there, but have missed out on the other PC cruises to date.

And am I right that this would be the Wonder's first trip through the canal? So it a way it's doing something new that hasn't been done before!

That is right, it will be her first trip through the PC. :) I would like to take at least one cruise on the Wonder and a 14/15 day would be long enough to make that worth our while. ;)

This may be the cruise meet thread. :confused3 Sorry, I didn't check first. I'm just too excited.

I would love to be on this repo - always wanted to do the PC. Will have to wait and see how things play out though since I'm on the WB TA in SEP2010. Hopefully the budget will stretch!!!

It all depends on the price and the schedule. Unfortunately I had to cancel next year's transatlantic repo. To make matters worse, when payment was due I could have booked a veranda stateroom for last year's eastbound PC repo but I felt obligated to visit my mother.

If I can afford it (odds are good) and if the schedule works (we'll see) then I will be joining you all on the cruise. One thing is for sure - the minute reservations open I will be booking mine, then I will spend whatever time necessary trying to convince my wife to go :)

AMEN! I wouldn't even bother getting off the ship again. We were part of a group that got their excursion money refunded after leaving LaRoqueta early, four passengers to a VW buggy taxi. Made for an interesting adventure, though!:lmao:

Wow, we just got lucky, I guess! We hired a private taxi to take us on a tour. Went to the Cliff Divers and all over the place and just had a great time! But once would be enough for us. I would hope they'd make different stops next time. I'd especially love a couple more stops on the gulf side.

As I read the title of this thread and started reading the thread- this is exactly what I was thinking.
ESPECIALLY if the new ship is going to be doing shorter 3/4nt cruises- since although we want to be on the new ship... I'm not willing to cruise those short cruises just to be on the new ship! So an alternative would be a longer cruise on "technically" a new ship for us- since we've never cruised on the Wonder!
We'll have to wait and see when it is and if we can afford to do the TA and then just a few months later the PC repo to take the Wonder on the repo. Depends on what it ends up $$.

Wow, I could have written this post almost verbatim! (except the TA part) We've always wanted to see what the Wonder was like, but we never wanted to waste our time doing a 3/4 nighter. We're definitely going to look hard at this. Our problem is that ds will be in college by then and it's a little harder to take 2 weeks off in college than it is in HS. But I can't imagine the rest of the family going and leaving him behind!!

AmyBiff
04-02-2009, 01:37 PM
I've always wanted to go back on the Wonder (did two four-nighters for our first two), but after doing a 7-nighter, then a 15-nighter, there was no way I could go back to 4 nights!

And I got the ok from DH last night:cool1:, as long as it's not during the HVAC busy season:sad1:. Hopefully those who speculated Feb-April are right!

Question for you SEASONED cruisers. How do you make SURE you can book on opening day for reservations? Will we have some advanced warning on when that will be? Would we be better off having a TA book for us? THANKS! My DS & I are SOOOOOO on this cruise!!!!!!!!!!!

MommaluvsDis
04-02-2009, 06:23 PM
Yes, there will be plenty of notice. Your best bet is to keep an eye on these boards. Also, you can make your own reservations or use a "Disney" TA such as the sponsors of these boards, Dreams Unlimited. As someone posted earlier, not every TA realizes the need for quick action on making the reservations on these "specialty" cruises.

I totally agree -- we hated Acapulco. Visiting the Fort was a great experience, but the town was filthy and the ridiculous feud between the cliffdivers and the restaurant owners put a kabash on that experience! We missed Cabo due to a hurricane, so it would be fun to finally see that port.

Question for you SEASONED cruisers. How do you make SURE you can book on opening day for reservations? Will we have some advanced warning on when that will be? Would we be better off having a TA book for us? THANKS! My DS & I are SOOOOOO on this cruise!!!!!!!!!!!

For the repos last year - there was advanced notice so I am sure there will be this time as well. As for the best route to go - you can either book yourself and then turn it over to a TA if you would like to deal with anything else you need or find a TA that specializes in Disney (they understand the need to book quickly) Or you can book it yourself and just take care of it directly with Disney. Something to keep in mind though with a TA - yours is not the only one they are booking and if the last repo is any indication - things go fast! So keep in mind that the TA will do the best they can for you as they do want you to be happy but they can't guarantee anything. We booked directly last time and turned it over to a TA - now I am a TA so this time my DH will book us while I work on other's arrangements.

We went on the EB Repo and loved it! We will be going on this one as well. I hope that we go back to Aruba as that was my favorite. I am hoping for a few new ports just to see something new. We will be traveling with our DD who will be 14 at the time of sailing.

I don't remember what time the bookings open, but whether you use phone or online -- some people have a phone and online going at the same time when bookings open and go with whichever makes it through first.

Have you seen the thread from someone just off the Wonder?

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2141828

Obviously all speculation, but here are a couple of key things (well at least for the Wonder in 2011) that popped out at me!

5. Lots of crew members were talking about the new ships & new itineraries. I mentioned that I was on the EB Panama & it would be exciting to do it again on the Wonder. The cast member said yes 2/11 should be an exciting time for the Wonder. I asked if that meant the PC cruise was planned for Feb. The answer: well things can always change.

6. Crew members also said the the Wonder would be sailing Mexico & Alaska. I asked about Hawaii. Again, I was told well things can always change.

I hope they change Acapulco for somewhere else as not many people really enjoyed that stop last May.

Yep. As a fellow passenger on that trip with Marilyn last year I too hope they cancel Acapulco and add a different location. I'm hoping for Cartagena and/or Mazatlan this time.

And as for the cruise, my wife, LuvBaloo, and I are hoping to go again in 2011! We had such a good time last time.

I hope they change Aruba... been there... seen it... can do without the cactus and the goats...

Hi Marilyn, Bubba and I are seriously thinking about doing it again.

I second this. I would just stay on the ship

We also got a portion of our excursion refunded as the tour co held us semi hostage in a store at the cliff divers. Not fun.

We did too and we didn't get a refund...

-Kay

Radioclash was on the EB Repo last year, so she would have asked lots of good questions about the Wonder Repo.

Yes Gaylean is thinking about it. Even if she doesn't realize it yet. With all of us on the cruise and her missing out - she couldn't handle that!

I now have a 16gb memory card that can take about 6000 pics. So that should do me for a day or two ....

Planky will never be the same after a night like that. I think I could only handle a night or two of it myself...

The only down part of a February cruise is how cold it got at night in May when we got to the West Coast. February should be colder. They had to cancel a few things out on deck because of it. I remember following Marilyn and John up to the deck after late dining to go to the "Dancing under the stars" only to find the deck empty...

The scooter lady was horrible. Very much a "me, me, me" person. She was an excursion with us, and did not bring her scooter, and was able to barge her way to the front even on her own 2 feet. And she'd be late getting back on the bus after every stop. On her scooter, she assumed we'd all get out of her way. I had to pull my kids out of way a couple times

Nice to see so many new and familiar faces! I'm nervous about the weather for a Feb cruise, but it should still be fun. I wonder if they'll be making changes to deck if they are going over to Alaska?

Thought I'd jump in to say Hi and subscribe. I was just thinking today, I bet there's a thread for this and sure enough.....

I think we may try to book a room on this WB cruise through the Canal. We did the EB Repo last summer and it truly was a trip of a lifetime. My only concern with this one is the timing of it....I haven't read any of this thread, but does anyone have any idea what time of year this cruise might take place?

Thanks!

Somebody earlier on this thread was joking about how crazy we are for planning a cruise that doesn't even exist yet....well, I think I just topped all the silliness....listen to this:

depends... they had ALOT of trouble on the return repo last August... lots of kids getting into trouble...

They could do it anytime and it will still sell out so they don't HAVE to depend on it being a specific week like vacations...

I think there are 3 variables that will lead this...

1. The arrival of the new ship

2. when the cruises are scheduled to start on the West Coast.

and most importantly of all..

3. When they can get a reservation for the ship to go through the canal...

It's VERY hard and VERY expensive... I do believe we were over $300,000 in just tolls for that day last May... (we broke a record...) & you have to have an allotted time and they pay extra for a cruise ship to go through during the day - the rest of the ships can take up to 3 days to get through the canal...

I agree with Tink rules. Disney will fill this ship with adults. They won't have any problem doing that either. There are probably more adults cruising without children on these longer cruises than adults cruising with children. At least that's how it was on the 11 night Southern in '06.

Look at the fury we've already started here and it hasn't even been announced.

1. The arrival of the new ship is probably already set in stone - well, a contract with penalties. Disney already knows this date.

2. Cruises in LA COULD start 1/2/2011. But, that would require canceling cruises that are already scheduled. Really, the date they start cruising will be tied to the expected arrival of the new ship, which is the same date we are hearing for the repo - Feb 2011. So, 1 & 2 are really the same thing.

3. They have plenty of time to get this scheduled ;)

Again, I don't think Disney will be as concerned about when WE get the canal cruise as they will for having the ship on the west coast for spring break weeks. After all, they will be charging a premium to go to Mexico and there won't be $330,000 costs cutting into the profits!

Best thing you can do is be on the phone when the bookings open no matter what time that is for you. And your concerns are understandable...I would assume most TA go in the order they rec'd the request from the client.

We didn't trust a TA to book it for us. In fact BOTH my wife and I each got on a computer to book it to make sure we were on. Once one of us got in the other logged off.

After you've got it booked you can then transfer it to a TA like Dreams Unlimited for any specials or other offerings.

Hi Denise....I'm Deb and me and my DH John did the 11 night Southern in Sept of '06. That's where I learned about the disboards and joined as soon as I got home. Were you on the Southern in Sept???

Have you been looking to do another Southern since your last one? I loved the ports the most. Better than Eastern, Western or PC ports. We're currently booked on the 2010 Christmas 11 night Southern cruise. It's way too expensive because it's Christmas. But we love all the ports. Then when we talked about this coming up in early 2011, we decided that we'll transfer our deposit and do this one instead. We'll be reunion Thieves. We did the WBPC repo in May'08. We decided the people are more important than the ports. It's also half the amount of money for a longer cruise.

I would still like to book a Southern again, just not on a holiday so it won't cost so much. I'll have to keep checking the new itineraries.

Do you know how many DISers you had onboard??? We just about broke 400....you should see our group shot!

Actually, Maersk isn't a particular ship, it's just the name of a shipping line. http://www.maerskline.com/link/?page=brochure&path=/our_services/vessels

There was also a Maersk ship ahead of us going through the locks too on the WB. :thumbsup2

My brother works as a merchant marine seaman and he has worked for Maersk before. I'm sure glad he wasn't onboard that ship right now. I'll have to ask him if he knows anyone on that crew.

Last count before cruise was 624 registered with our group, although that did include 20-25 who had canceled but still wanted newsletters, updates, etc.

We did a photo/video sharing site that has 12,000+ photos and videos on it.
We had a "planning board" where we cut/paste a lot of important planning stuff because the thread moved too fast. We also set up a number of our group excursions there. In Aruba we had enough signed up to take up both boats for the Jolly Pirates snorkeling (what a blast).
We also had a website as I know you did too.

I think the final numbers we got from Disney (on board) were 2200 or 2400 passengers were Castaway Club members.

The DVC receptions were too big (too many people) for RBD, SRO.

I would soooooo love to do the Panama Canal. I already have a Magic cruise booked that we're pushing back to 2011, but that was always the plan to begin with. We rebooked onboard. I wonder if could switch ships and still get the onboard credit and discount.

yeppers, h.t.?..you're right....., i just recognized that pale blue
they painted their ships.

. i'm amazed..how so many found time together. heck, we lost
our kids...most of the time. [ not on purpose, :rolleyes1

..i don't kno who had the numbers, but i do kno...the east pc had

the real jack sparrow~~ onboard, :thumbsup2.

we flew clear across the states..did disneyland, commando style,

...so the first 3 days..we were napping, alot.

early morning..on deck 10, right before....we begun the canal
crossings...the floor must been slick...severval people fell, hard!

....while we have the tendency to keep by oursleves, the
dis gave us outstanding table mates, that were fun every night.

we also had a very young couple with 2 lil'kids, next to us, &
they joined in...., their lil' princess: ..had a "pinch" of tomboy in
her. sweet as they could be.

did anyone see?...that hughmogous..croc?...@ the begining of the
canal? [ jus started working on our videos] . it looked liked a
floating tree....with "eyes." that thing....could swallow me
in 2 gulps, :scared:

cabo?...the whale sighting made our snorkle trip! oh, the cowboy &
..i think....davey jones' lil brother..."silver claw". did any one see

..the lil'wodden cross? right above..the hooter's sign.

while i heard complaining about the food, i ate like a piggy. one
of my favorites food stuff...were the corndogs!

* we also did the 11~nighter....& it was a favorite..too. i hope they
redo...it in the future...st. kitts..train ride..with jimmy the monkey?
and the free drinks..they were providing, had a mule kick. & then
the singers..were a delight. [ the beaches..were black....from the
volcanoes. ] . and it was sunday...everyone were in their church
clothes, :thumbsup2

back on the pc cruise, one night the threater lost its sounds, during
the wil smith 's movie..near the end. on the way out, they gave
everyone...some really neat...dcl flashligts. that's dcl!

....one of the thing we got out of pc cruise, was listening..to an artist
talk about his dream, mr. williams. something special, that gave our
children inspiration. he just dosne't draw cartoons, he gives them
their feelings...& to me , that makes him a disney legend. :wizard:

so any cruise he is on, one should go to any of his presentation.
[ a lady down below us....won 2 of his drawings. this wasn't missed
by the "crowd". she didn't say..nothing, instead made a quick exit.
ha! smart woman.

I've been emailing with my TA about this cruise. She said that although she still doesn't know either the timing of the cruise or when they'll start taking bookings, she did say that she spoke with a supervisor at DCL and they are "quietly" taking fax requests for a waiting list ONLY if you're booking a Cat 1-3. Way outta my price range, so I can't take advantage, but I know some of you probably can!

Either way, I sure hope to be on it! Dunno, though. February is right smack in the middle of gym meet season. But I think it would be our only chance to go on the Wonder, unless they go to Hawaii. You couldn't pay me to do a Mexican Riviera cruise by itself. I don't mind the stops on the way home through the canal, but I'd never choose it as a whole cruise.

Besides, I can't imagine a Disney cruise without Castaway Cay!!!

I think you'll hear different prices from last time depending on when people booked. We didn't book ours until a year out and by then the price was up a lot. We paid around $12k for 4 of us in a Category 6.

tom31b
04-11-2009, 07:54 AM
I wonder how the pricing will work out this time. I thought the EB was way underpriced, we had 2 adults, 2 kids in cat 10 for under $6,000 (no ins, no trans). That plays out to $100 per person per day in my version of Mickey math, which is downright cheap for lodging and 4-5 meals a day. The TA, which they have a much harder time filling, were almost free by the time they sailed last time.

But the EB was in summer, school not in session for a lot of passengers.

A lot more cabins opened up at 90 days for the WB than did for the EB.

Brooklyn
04-11-2009, 09:05 AM
For all of you who have cruised the PC cruises before, do they sell out that first day?

granmaz
04-11-2009, 09:13 AM
The 2008 EB did sell out the first day, but the WB took a day or two to sell out. However, with there only being one PC crossing I would say it will sell out. There were cabins that came available along the way, especially at final payment time though.
