Could a dis-er please explain the origin of cake vs. pie to those of us that are new. I hope it is a really great story!

:cake: or pie or brownies?

I'd also like to know the meaning of the dancing  banana.

Thanks for making us all welcome as we join in the :chat:conversation.

wow, I'm not sure I can explain it.

I guess because it never really had an explanation it just started and continued. Some like cake, some like pie. We found it funny, in continued.

Anyone else got something better? :confused3

I think the pie talk started in chat. Can't remember who it was but he kept having pie every Wednesday and we all discussed our favorite pies which then morphed into cake. The rest is history, as they say. :confused3

I'm going to say it all started with Brandie who made a killer DIS cake for the Indy DIS meet. She kept telling us how she was working day and night on it. The next thing we knew cake was the talk of the Unplugged board! Could be way off, but for some reason I remember the cake talk starting around that time. :rolleyes1

I'm not sure if I should take credit, but I did start with some eating of pudding, and calling it crustless pie...I'm not sure if that was the beginning or not.

The main point is no one is sure, we just keep talking about it. You don't have to know the origins, just hop in and roll with the punches.

I do think it was you!!! I have been trying to remember who exactly and my mind keeps coming back to you. I know we talked about cool whip going along with the pie - and pudding and cool whip go hand in hand.

It is something some people post when a thread is going in one direction and they hijack it with pie or cake posts.

Not sure why, it is a game people like to play, just like when they were back on the grade school playground.

Here's the thing Rich. We are a fun, light-hearted bunch here and don't like it when someone is trying to muck up the waters. So when we see it, we do a cake or pie intervention. See Jen here, see only does cake interventions. George you'll see, he can handle his pies. It changes the subject and keeps everyone from kicking your *s* online. See how that works? We are just trying to be helpful :flower3: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Ooooh, I'm kind of a fan of thinking back to the days when I was in grade school on the playground. Remember those days when Billy pulled your pigtails and you were NOT going to marry him anymore. Or you best friend Susie told you that you couldn't swing with her because she liked Molly today. And then Mary Lou suggested we all play freeze tag and life couldn't be better. Susie was again your maid of honor at yours and Billy's wedding.

Even Wikipedia does not say exactly what the dancing banana emoticon "means" at this point. It danced along with a song.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_Banana
The Dancing Banana (also known as Peanut Butter Jelly, or Humba the Banana) is a popular emoticon.

"Peanut Butter Jelly Time" was a Flash animation that emerged in the early 2000s and became an Internet phenomenon. Based upon a song of the same name recorded by DJ Chipman of the Buckwheat Boyz, the best known version of the animation (usually distributed as a Flash clip) shows a highly pixelated animated Dancing Banana moving back and forth to the song's repetitive chorus. In some versions of the animation, the song's lyrics are displayed on screen.

:teacher: And now we know.

I think the pie talk started in chat. Can't remember who it was but he kept having pie every Wednesday and we all discussed our favorite pies which then morphed into cake. The rest is history, as they say. :confused3

I remember lots of discussions of British vs. American food on both Chat and Chatzy which talked about pie, cake and chocolate. Food is just big around here!

I'm going to say it all started with Brandie who made a killer DIS cake for the Indy DIS meet. She kept telling us how she was working day and night on it. The next thing we knew cake was the talk of the Unplugged board! Could be way off, but for some reason I remember the cake talk starting around that time. :rolleyes1

That cake looked amazing!!

I politely disagree with you, Rich. I see the Podcast forum as my happy place. I come here to share my day and talk about the cruise and read about the days of my "friends". I have enough conflict and drama in my life so trying to steer conversations in a fun and friendly way to cake vs. pie talk is my way of making peace.:hippie: If I want to get in a debate about my cake is better than your cake, I'll take it to the Community forum.

Maybe you're still on the school playground, but I'm going to Disney World!:woohoo:

WOOO! :thumbsup2:cool1:

It's time for cake pictures. :)

http://www.mentalfloss.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/435_rubiksCake.jpg

My friend is obsessed by Rubix cubes, I need to get her one of these!

There is no "and".

"Its Peanut Butter Jelly Time. Peanut Butter Jelly Time. Peanut Butter Jelly. Peanut Butter and a Baseball bat."

Almost as catchy as the the "There's a llama (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama)" song.:goodvibes

OH NO! That song is now in my head! I can't find the link to the funny single ladies dance, where was it posted??
