Christmas In Disney

The Cast:

Joyce and Rachel
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/a%20December%20Disney/Dec%20Pre%20Trip%20Report/joyceandrachellikethisone-1.jpg

Joyce and Rachel are my good friends from church. We also enjoy being addicted to a few TV shows (One Tree Hill anyone?), so we get to hang out watching TV, too!

Rachel has a rare genetic disorder called mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS). There is a conference for families who are dealing with MPS in Orlando in December. Which is why we are going to Disney! In addition to MPS, Rachel also has a spinal cord injury from a surgery she had just 3 days before Katrina wiped out our coast. To our knowledge, Rachel is the oldest living person with MPS.

Rachel and Joyce have been to Disney before, but this is the first trip for Rachel since she has been using a power chair.

When we were planning Lauren's wish trip, Joyce was quoted to have asked why in the world I LIKE Disney? In fact, I really thought she was a Disney Hater... But...as we have started to plan this trip, I have discovered that Joyce actually LOVES Disney. She gets sorta giddy when we talk about it, actually. :goodvibes

Of course, Joyce and Rachel can't go to Disney without this precious girl...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/a%20December%20Disney/Dec%20Pre%20Trip%20Report/elliepic.jpg

Meet Ellie!

Ellie is the 4-yr-old grandaughter to Joyce, neice to Rachel.

Of course, Ellie has very sweet parents, too...so we guess they can come along! ;)

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/a%20December%20Disney/Dec%20Pre%20Trip%20Report/rachelginaandellie.jpg

This is Gina with Rachel and Ellie. Gina is Ellie's Mommy!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/a%20December%20Disney/Dec%20Pre%20Trip%20Report/rachelandjustin.jpg

And this is Justin. Justin is the Daddy to Ellie and brother to Rachel!

So...are you confused yet? No? Ok...well let's add the rest of the cast!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/a%20December%20Disney/Dec%20Pre%20Trip%20Report/Rosemarypic-1.jpg

Meet Rosemary! Rosemary is one of Rachel's best friends!

And then there is me...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/Photopass%20Feb%2009/ce61056a-1.jpg

Maroo! And I won't go through my details again. All you really need to know about me is...I am a DIS addict! ::yes::

Dates of this trip...December 15 - 20! Rachel, Joyce, Rosemary and I are all driving down. Gina, Justin and Ellie are flying to meet us.

More on the details of this trip are coming as soon as I can get organized some! :goodvibes

Ten Days in September (2009) - Free Dining

Well, gang, it is time for another pre-trip report! I am so excited!

My last pre-trippie was ... so ... fast! Only 4 days, if you recall! :thumbsup2 And lacking of good stories, suspense and...well, planning!! So, I decided to start this one off right!

This is going to be a very cool trip. A trip that is definitely a work in progress! So I will need LOTS of help from you guys.

I have been hanging out a lot these days on the Free Dining threads. There are several threads out there describing this wonderful thing that Disney does. FREE Dining. It is really FREE!! Really!! Who turns down free food? :confused3 Not me!!

So...THE CAST!!!

The cast is sort of a mystery. Because I am not sure of ALL of the cast members yet. But two are in stone...so I will share those with ya!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/pre%20trip%20report/Sharon.jpg
Meet Sharon! Hello, Sharon!

Sharon, like me, is single and has no kids. She is an awesome high school teacher from the great state of FL! Florida is cutting their teachers WAY back, but she has kept her job so far. She is one of those few teachers that live, eat and breathe to teach. She is a really great teacher...focusing on the slower kids to get them back up to grade level! :teacher:

Sharon and I have been friends for several years now...she used to go to church with me when she lived in MS! She was a missionary in Japan when she was younger (which was not that long ago, since she is still young!!) ::yes::

And then there is me...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/pre%20trip%20report/IMG_3106-3.jpg

Yep, that's me!! And my dog, Muffin. Muffin can't come, but she wanted to be in the picture this time!

Some of you already know how crazy I am...but for those that don't...I will tell ya a little about myself.

I am single, no kids. Although I would love to not be single and have several kids...so, if you know of a special someone...:rolleyes1

I have a regular job working at a cancer clinic. I fight with insurance companies to pay for my patient's chemotherapy that they need. :thumbsup2

I also have a heart - a passion, really - for helping disabled and medically needy kids. I actually take care of Lauren, who some of you know from the rainbow TR (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1980494), as a second job. Although I don't really consider that work. :confused3

I am terribly...or wonderfully...addicted to the DIS! I hang out on several boards and threads, including the Wish Trippers thread...where we plan Wish Trips for medically needy kids! Hi guys!!!

Magic Meets

So, another trip is in the works. Magic Meets is a Disney convention of sorts where Disney fans from all over the country come to PA for a day and a half of Disney fun! They will have a social event or two for people to meet and mingle. They organized break out sessions where we can learn about cruises, pin trading, DVC, trip planning and the like. It is organized and supported mostly by podcasters - all people that I have gotten to know in the past several months listening to podcasts on my iPhone. So I am really excited!

I got the tickets to the sold out event because I won an auction on the June Live Show for WDW Today. The guys and gals at WDW Today, allears.net, MouseVanTravel have all been over the top nice to me!

So...here are the links for the Magic Meets info! And more coming! :)

Hey there Maroo....

I am sooooo jealous! I would love to get back to WDW soon. Love the picture of Muffin too! My suggestion on an adult only trip is to definitely eat well when you are there ! I would definitely book some time at Teppenyaki, and Cat Cora's new place; along with Wolfgang Puck's place. Yum!

I have a question for you knowledgeable DISers!! I have never stayed on site (except the Wish Trip) as an adult...always off site. But I am staying on site for FREE DINING!!!!

So...when I wake up at the crack of dawn on Monday morning to call...

Which resort should I book?

I am leaning heavily toward Pop - Standard Room...because we don't need anything fancy and the only thing better than FREE DINING is paying on $82.00 a night for it! :thumbsup2

But, I am told, even if I wake up at the crack of dawn...before the crickets even stop chirping...that I might not get my first choice, since all of the Disney Visa holders got a 2 day head start.

So...what should my second choice be????

I am trying to take into account the bus sharing situation? Don't the All Star's share buses?

FIRST!!! :)

You rock. Thanks for being here!! :)

I was totally excited to be first. :goodvibes

As far as resorts go, Pop is my favorite value.

I wouldn't worry yourself too much over getting it, I think you'll be fine.

Just in case you're not able to, I have to say, I haven't stayed in the All Stars in years, and I'm just not interested in them. I know that you'd have a price jump from Pop to a mod, but depending on how many friends you have with you, it could be doable (not sure what your budget is).

I would recommend going on allears . net and taking a look at the All Stars. I believe they can share busses, and I know that some have been recently remodeled, so that may help you in your decision.

And are you really just looking for a place to sleep, or do you want certain things out of your resort? That would help me direct you to a mod, if you were interested. :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear all about the plans!

I've never stayed at any of the values. I'm staying at my first one this December for 1/2 my solo trip. I usually stay at POFQ which I adore. I consider it my home away from home. I love it so much that I keep debating changing my ressie for Dec. to POFQ.

Maroo:

You can make your ressie with Disney to secure you spot, then if you are a member of AAA they can "take over" the reservation and save you 10%. I think technically the Disney reservation gets cancelled simultatenously with the AAA reservation getting placed. If you don't like the resort you ended up with through Disney, the 10% may make up the difference with the moderately priced resort. Good luck!

So...what should my second choice be????

Actually, I like the All Stars' busing situation. You can get off and walk at the first stop when they are sharing and at the peak times they have individual buses.

We've stayed at the back of ASMu twice and really enjoyed it because it was quiet and peaceful. Only a short walk took us to the activity centres, but, we could listen to the crickets and even saw an armadillo.

Other people will give you equally good arguments for other areas at the All Stars. Basically, if the goal is to enjoy free dining, I think it should be combined with a value stay. Otherwise, you can likely save more money by looking for an AP holders' room only discount and then purchase the DDP (or, just purchase your food).

I'm pretty sure you can't get the AAA discount and free dining simultaneously.

He he!! :) That is a whole different pre-trippie, my friend!! :) We are going in December. I even made a VERY COOL ressie this afternoon. :thumbsup2 As soon as this pre-trippie gets established a little (you know, like I have a place to sleep! and stuff to eat!) then I will post that pre-trippie to get all of those details worked out for December! :) I love the DISboards!!

I was totally excited to be first. :goodvibes

I am definitely going for the POP! I even went ahead and made my ressie in the hopes that they will just add the dining in the morning. That will free up the phone lines a little. :thumbsup2

I am definitely just looking for the cheapest options for this trip...since it is going to be so long! :)

Nice save. ;)

I'm so glad you're pre-trippin' again!! :woohoo:

He he! Did ya like that save! Figured I should backtrack a little there. :tiptoe:

I hope to stay in POFQ one day!! :) I am actually going to New Orleans this weekend! Nice thing about being so close...although this is a business trip.

When are you going in December? I think I already asked you this....I can't remember... :sad2:

Maroo:

E

:) That is exactly what I did today!! :) But they did tell me today that I can't stack discounts? Like I can't add free dining and AAA...is that true? I thought you could add AAA to any other discount?

Well, you just answered the question I just asked! :thumbsup2

I am definitely going value! I am treating my friend to the trip...she is going to get her tickets and get there...but I figure if I am already getting the room, then she can just stay there, too! And we get more food! lol

I think I have almost decided to do All Star Music, if I don't get POP...because of part of the purpose of my trip! It has some music thrown in! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, living in Mississippi...we see lots of crazy animals! :rotfl2:

I'm in, can't wait for more!!!

Woo Hoo!!! A new poster! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I hope to have some good news tomorrow!!! Then we can get around to figuring out the other great stuff!! :)

I am extremely excited!

Quick update...(well, maybe not so quick...)

I have actually made a reservation for my dates at the POP Century! I was already on the phone making another reservation. :rolleyes1 It doesn't have Free Dining (from here on Free Dining = FD!) attached to it yet...but I will be getting up quite early...with several of my DISboards friends...to call and try to add it.

I figured it would be smart to go ahead and get it reserved so they just have to add the code to make it FD! Then I can see how much money I saved! :goodvibes

On another note...I found out today that my cousin (who is married with 2 cute kids) is also going to be in the World in Sept. :woohoo: We won't be there at the same time. :upsidedow But I found out something VERY interesting...She is a DISboards LURKER!! She loves the DISboards and spends lots of time obsessing about Disney! And I didn't even know it. :confused3 So now I am not the only Disney-crazed person in my family!

And...my friend Rachel... Hi Rachel! ... joined the DISboards today! :thumbsup2 I am not sure if it is a good thing to spread my addiction or not. I am just throwing gasoline on it, I think! :lmao:

Thanks for joining me on this journey! I am so excited!! :goodvibes

I'm here. Be absent for a couple of days and look at what all happens. Okay this is really weird. As soon as I saw the free dining, I started crunching numbers and was looking at a long weekend in September. I was looking at 18-22, but just learned that a good friend turns 50 on the 21st. I can almost guarrantee when her DH will throw the party. So now I am looking at the next weekend. Gotta look at the dates again. How cool! Another trip and trip report!:cool1:

I'm pretty sure you can't get the AAA discount and free dining simultaneously.

Bummer. Don't forget about the budget threads here at the DIS. There is always someone who knows of a special/ a code for upgraded rooms, etc. The issue always comes down to timing.

Did I hear my name? Did someone out there call my name? :dogdance:

You people are waking me up from my nap.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/photo-1-1.jpg

I understand that you people are telling my Mommy that she should back to that place with the big castle?

Well...I have a few words for you...because every single time she goes to that castle...she packs these HUGE bags...and then I get dropped off at my Aunt Cindy's house. She is nice and all, but I want my Momma!

I know I am in trouble when she gets that big GREEN bag out! And she runs around the house. And she talks really loud on the phone. And she sits on this computer and types and types and types. And she won't play with me. :sad2: UNLESS...I throw my ball up in her lap or jump up and down with my pink toy in my mouth! Then she plays with me! Over and over and over again until I am so tired that I need another nap!

ZZZZZzzzzzzz....

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/photo-1-1.jpg

So, let me go back to sleep!

And please don't tell my Momma I was on this laptop.

And quit talking to her about going to see that stupid castle with all of those LOUD fireworks!

Sincerely,

I spent most the evening yesterday working on a December trip...Making 2 room ressies in one day was a little stressful! But, alas, that is an entirely different pre-trippie that I can't start until I have pictures of all my cast!!!

So....

The next step is figuring out some restaurants we want to try in SEPTEMBER!!

First of all...Sharon has done a great job losing weight this year and we are planning on NOT spoiling that with this trip. I told her we will walk a LOT so, we will burn some of those calories...but still, we will try to be sorta smart about eating... :) Not to say that I won't have a No Way Jose... :)

This will be a strange trip...and good for dining purposes! We will only have 8 park days...so that is 8 days to eat, but we get enough credits for 9! Plus...at the end of our trip, we will have a couple of days that our focus will be elsewhere...(more details on that later...still working on those!) so we will be doing only counter service those last few days...

So...here is what I am thinking on dining...

Boma - 1 TS
Jiko - 2 TS
California Grill - 2 TS
Crystal Palace - 1 TS
Teppan Edo - 1 TS
(We have two more TS credits!)

Paying on our own: Beaches and Cream - Ice Cream only, probably

The rest will be counter service...most on the fly...but we are trying to find some good places - even with some strange food - in Epcot.

We will do Flame Tree BBQ at AK for sure! And eat at THE LAND (whatever that restaurant is!)

Sharon's favorite park is Epcot - Specifically World Showcase. And it will be her first time to do DHS and AK, so we will spend some time there, too!!!

So...what do you guys think...changes? Suggestions? Timing of these meals? :)

So, just how many trips DO you have in the works:rotfl: Oh, I'm so jealous!! Free dining would be SO fun!! I don't know how you can be smart about eating though, with all the amazing desserts available that are FREE!!!!

Boma - 1 TS
Jiko - 2 TS
California Grill - 2 TS
Crystal Palace - 1 TS
Teppan Edo - 1 TS
(We have two more TS credits!)

Boma's is DELISH! My picky husband LOVED it there. Very yummy.

I ate at Teppan Edo in October and it was very good. Great for a party of one (in case someone is lurking ;)).

Have fun!!!

California Grill - 2 TS

So...what do you guys think...changes? Suggestions? Timing of these meals? :)

I love doing Crystal Palace as an early, pre-park opening breakfast! There's nothing like the sight of a nearly-empty Main Street first thing in the morning!! :cloud9:

We've had breakfast at Boma ~ yum! ~ but it was on a no-park departure day. That is actually a great time to schedule a breakfast b/c there is no rush to finish and get touring! :thumbsup2

Boma - 1 TS
Jiko - 2 TS
California Grill - 2 TS
Crystal Palace - 1 TS
Teppan Edo - 1 TS
(We have two more TS credits!)

So...what do you guys think...changes? Suggestions? Timing of these meals? :)

I had a horrible meal at Boma, but I really think it was a fluke. All other reviews (other than mine) have been so positive, I think maybe the kitchen just had a really day.

I've never tried Jiko, but heard great things.

I love the California Grill. In addition to that, I HIGHLY recommend Citrico's. I can't speak highly enough of the food, service, ambience, etc. It's wonderful. I just reviewed it in my December trip report, if you're interested.

Love, love, love the Crystal Palace! So much fun, and great food.

I haven't been to Teppan Edo, but again, I've heard great things.

If I had to recommend other restaurants, regardless of whether they're one or two TS, they would be...

DHS - The Brown Derby, 2 TS
If you feel like getting treated like one of the kids, the Prime Time Cafe.
If you want that drive in feel, Sci Fi.

Epcot - The Coral Reef
Nine Dragons
Chefs de France (It may not be my favorite, but Mom and Nana love it)

Now, if we're dealing out of the parks, I love the Flying Fish and haven't been in years. That's a 2TS. I know that Cat Cora is supposed to be heading a restaurant to replace Spoodles, and I'm not sure if that's happening before our trips, but I think it is, so that could be fun for you if you wanted something different.

I'll see if I can come up with anything else, but those are my gut instincts right there, unless you give me more of an idea what you're looking for. :goodvibes

Boma is one of my favorites. It's the only place I'm considering a must do for my solo trip, although I'm pretty sure I'm making a return to California Grill too. We had a fantastic meal there last year, and had the best seat in the house. It was the perfect way to wrap up our trip.

Sunshine Seasons it at the Land :thumbsup2. Bill loves their food. As for eating at Disney when you are trying to watch your weight there are many foods to choose from. I always ask for the sauces on the side, they have many yummy salads, grilled chicken, grilled fish, etc. Everything will be fine.

First of all... we will try to be sorta smart about eating...

Given that you get good desserts at TS meals and many snack credit options are high calorie choices, I recommend skipping the CS desserts. They are generally super sweet things that just aren't worth it. However, you can always get one one of the sides for the kids meals (i.e. grapes, carrots, unsweetened apple sauce, etc.) and sometimes even things like side salads.

As for other choices...

We love Artist Point, but, I probably wouldn't add another 2 credit option since I don't think they are really very good value anymore since the dropping of the appetizer--especially since the appetizers are often the best part of the signature experiences.

Single Credit ideas:
- We waited a long time to try Sci Fi and 50's PTC, but, enjoyed both of them.
- We like Raglan Rd (I recommend Salmon of Knowledge and The Goat's Town)
- We've enjoyed Wolfgang Puck Cafe (despite the bad review in the restaurants section we've always been treated well there)
- Do Boma twice (once for breakfast and once for dinner)
- Le Cellier
- Coral Reef

It all sounds great! Absolutely everyone in our family LOVES the California Grill. It was our first WDW dinner in 2006 and a highlight of our Wish Trip in 2008. Check out the timing for Wishes and try, try, try to get an ADR at the right time for you to be able to watch Wishes from the observation deck. If you're watching what you eat, be warned that the portions of sushi were the biggest we have ever seen! And speaking of sushi, the boys love their rice krispie sushi desserts. SO CUTE!!! There are many delicious options for dinner. Mark loves to poach off Peter and me at restaurants like this. On the first trip to Cali Grill, he ate foie gras, scallops, steak, sushi, duck...and I had to finish HIS dinner so I'd get enough to eat!

Someone suggested Citrico's and I agree that it's great. We had a lovely meal there on our first trip (the "maximizing value from the DDP trip", in which we ate at either signature restaurants using 2 TS credits or counter service...Cali Grill, Citrico's, Narcoosee's and Artist Point, plus Ohana! We stayed at the Grand Floridian and tried to eat at the GF or on the monorail so Mark could walk (and monorail) to dinner in his walker wherever possible (and boat from WL for AP).

So, yes, Citrico's is great. If you go, leave time to explore the GF, sit in the lobby and listen to the band, visit the shops etc. It's a lovely resort - it's also where we spent those extra 3 nights we added onto the Wish Trip.

We also have had marvellous meals on both our WDW trips at Narcoosee's. I recommend it, especially if you like seafood. One thing I'll point out is that many of the foods I like also work if you are watching calories - I am lactose intolerant, so nothing creamy. Also have a problem with fatty and rich...which really doesn't explain why I can still afford to lose 10-15 lbs!!! (time to cut of wine!). So, if I've enjoyed a meal, it's likely there are delicious and relatively diet friendly options.

Another BIG feature of Narcoosee's is the fact that there is a great view of Wishes - you're right at the ferry launch for the GF, there's special viewing just outside the restaurant and they pipe the music in.

So there's my thoughts...can you tell I am a big Wishes fan? Give me great food and a great Wishes view...now that's a great WDW evening!

So excited for you...!!!

He he...

Uh...4, actually...September, December, January and actually September 2010...which may be the most interesting of them all. :rotfl: I don't know...me trying to complete the half marathon might be the MOST interesting!!! ;)

You feel free to come on down from Canada and bring your precious family! I would love for you to join me!! :)

I know...FREE fabulous desserts...and those snacks... :rotfl: But, no one said anything about ME being good! :) Although, I will...I have worked hard to lose about 18 pounds and I don't plan to put it back on! :)

Boma's is DELISH! My picky husband LOVED it there. Very yummy.

I ate at Teppan Edo in October and it was very good. Great for a party of one (in case someone is lurking ;)).

Very good note that it is good for a party of one!! :) There maybe a day when I am sorta on my own for this trip, even. Might have to save Teppan Edo for that day? :confused3

Decisions, Decisions!!

Kathy

I don't know how fired up Sharon is about getting up very early? I need to ask her about that. It might be good for one day. I enjoy breakfast buffets! :) And I like hitting Main Street first thing!

Boma breakfast is a MUST DO in my book! We did that on our Wish Trip and it was soooooo good!!! William has already asked for a souvie...guess what it is...?? ? ? Of all of the things at Disney he could ask for...He wants "guava juice"... that juice they serve at Boma! :confused3

I had a horrible meal at Boma, but I really think it was a fluke. All other reviews (other than mine) have been so positive, I think maybe the kitchen just had a really day.

Ok...I am thinking you are going to have to "retry" Boma! :) I will go first, since I will be there first...and let ya know how it goes! :)

One thing I need to ask...and may need to ask everyone in an update...but feel free to answer this (anyone lurking, too)...

Which of these restaurants are more "romantic"...I want to steer clear of strictly romantic places. While I want to eat at nice places and most of those are generally romantic, I want to steer more towards the ones that have another draw besides just couples. Does that make sense? :confused3

I don't really do fish...? Does that exclude the Flying Fish for me?

We are definitely doing Crystal Palace!! I love me some POOH!! :)

And I do need to hit Sci Fi...I think I can skip 50's since I have been there before. That is more fun with people I know, I think.

Coral Reef we did this last time...I guess I need to get to that part in my TR, huh!!

Nine Dragons...hmm...and that France place might be good... hmmm.... choices, choices!!! :)

Disney does seem to be really good about choices, I think Sharon will be pleasantly surprised about that. :)

I am going to do an entirely different SNACK section on this Pre-Trippie!! YUM!

I am going to pick up William from school...and take him to get Ice Cream!!! Maybe he will let me have a bite. :thumbsup2

I have... in the back of my mind... been sorta hoping that Lisa might join me at some point for this trip. It would be so cheap for her to join me... we can just add her to the room a few nights and she could dine...

But...that isn't going to happen. :sad2:

Lisa has a stress fracture in her tibia. Actually, that is the best case scenario. She had an MRI and the report actually mentions several things it could be... some I don't even want to think about.

But she is on crutches. Which means no Disney for her. They say it takes about 6 months to get back to "normal" and her fracture is pretty bad. They even mentioned a year before she can really exercise. She won't be on crutches that long, obviously.

But...she can't lift Lauren. And will have a very hard time taking care of her at all in this state. So pray for her...and for all of us. Because it is no fun when Momma is sick, ya know what I am saying? But since she is Momma of a disabled teenager...it is worse!!!!

Thanks for your prayers!!!!

I hate that Lisa has a bum leg and i hope that whatever it is can be treated minimally and more importantly successfully.

I also hate that whilst you are away you are going to be worrying and fretting about how things are going back home and feeling guilty about being somewhere other than at home helping out.:sad2::sad2:

Lisa Update...

Many tests came back today and ruled out the bad stuff....ruled out Leukemia and an infection. She will see the Orthopod next and hopefully get some more good insight.

In the mean time, we got her a wheelchair so she could get around the house and have both hands. She still can't lift Lauren or anything like that, but she can bring us something and is not so sore with the crutches.

And...if I can manage to sneak a picture of BOTH wheelchairs moving around the house, I may just have to post it! And I already warned them to remove all cameras...or they would end up on the DIS! We will see what I can do! :)

Well, I leave for 2 weeks, and look what happens!!!!!! Gee whiz, I missed out on the whole start of this pre-trippie!!! DOH!!!

Bummer to hear about Lisa's leg! That's gotta hurt, and now I guess she's totally and completely out for the count on the half with you.

So, this is the practice run for you know what, eh?? You better believe I'll be watching this one carefully!

Hmmm... I've got a couple of nominations for those last 2 credits.

First one is way out there, but oh so very fun! What about hitting the Hoop de Doo Review. You have enough time in the parks and on property to take a few hours out to enjoy it. The boat ride over to the Fort is a nice 20 relaxing ride to give your tootsies a break, and the show is HIL-AR-I-OUS!!!! The food is all you can eat and we really liked it. 2 TS

If I had to go with (2) 1TS credits, I'd choose another one in Epcot, maybe Marrakesh or something else in WS.

Or something at a resort you haven't done.

Yeah...Lisa is definitely out for training for anything right now. We are hoping she is well enough to go on the big trip to Chicago with Lauren and the church choir. I REALLY need her to be able to go on that trip! :faint:

Ah...Hoop De Doo! We might do this one in December...if not, then I will hopefully do Hoop De Doo in Sept...honestly, if we do it this Sept, I might do a 9:30 show and use my AP discount rather than use 2 valuble TS credits? :confused3

Actually, HDDR is a pretty good deal with the DDP since it includes the gratuity. I kept thinking it wasn't, but, then, I looked at the math and it came out as a good plan.

It will actually likely be cheaper to do 2 other TS lunches OOP (since you sound like people who might share dessert, or not even have it) instead.

I am a little late to the party on this one but there are a lot of Maroo TR's to be keeping track of!

I also vote for Le Cellier. We loved our lunch there! The food and service were great! If you are interested in character meals, we really enjoy Tusker House for Bkfst.

I am so jealous of you and all of your trips! DH is not a Disney lover like me and DD are and after taking three trips in 20 months he said no more WDW for five years. :scared1: He was very good about the three trips so I shouldn't complain. I will have to change his mind though or go with just DD because five years is too long.

An Update...

Ok! So I have been thinking a lot about what restaurants, etc.

I think I have decided one thing...Sharon does not really like the Magic Kingdom. It is not that she doesn't like it...honestly...she just has been to the Magic Kingdom a lot and would rather slowly tour the other parks!

So...we are only going to spend one day at MK!

So, our meal for Magic Kingdom will be Crystal Palace! That is a sure thing. Just not sure if we should do early breakfast or lunch. What do you guys think? :confused3 Of course, part of this depends on if Sharon wants to get up that early! :thumbsup2

The other thing I am wondering...

We are going to do ONE MK Fireworks meal. The MAIN goal will be to see the Fireworks in the coolest way possible, because it will be the only time that Sharon will see them. The secondary consideration is the food/atmosphere!

The decision, I think, is between California Grill and Ohana's. Do you guys have other suggestions for this particular goal oriented meal? Or which of these two would you recommend the most!

Also...it looks like I may have one whole day on my own...solo again!!! :)

So...I am back to wondering what TS restaurants might be good for me to do solo! I have already done Biergarten and want to try something new! Would Ohana be ok solo? What about the Hoop Dee Doo Show? Would California Grill be good to eat and watch the fireworks if I was completely by myself? Any other suggestions of places I could eat by myself?

If U Had Wings
04-09-2009, 01:43 PM
If you want to see the fireworks I'd suggest California Grill over Ohanas. I've watched from both places, but the view from California Grill was amazing. Ohana's isn't right on the lake so they feel really far away. We were kind of watching them over some trees.

One MK Day!!! I would say if Sharon is willing to get up early do breakfast before the park opens - Main St/Castle with no people is amazing. I will try to post some photos then. If Sharon does not want to get up early, I would think a late breakfast or early lunch would be better for your touring plans.

I have not been to Cali grill or Ohana but would think the view would be better from the Cali grill since it is closer.

I have never been to WDW solo so I am not sure which restaurants would be good solo ones. Maybe Tony's in MK if you are doing an MK day. PTC is good because of the counter but I think you already ate there.

I've not eaten at CG or Ohana's either, but I've been dying to try CG, though, b/c of how awesome the MK fireworks are supposed to be from there! So, that's where my vote goes! :)

Still looking for dining suggestions? Being that you are on the DDP I'd say try Le Cellier. The filet was so good... unless you think you might want the filet at Jiko. But my DW had the scallops at Jiko- her whole dish was some of the best food I've ever eaten in my life!!!!

We loved 'Ohana- Although being on a 'diet' (didn't know there was such a thing at DisneyLOL:lmao:), there is so much food here. But our window seat for the fireworks was amazing- plus you are looking at the castle straight on. But they are kinda far away. I don't know how much closer CG is?:confused3 And I don't know if I helped you or confused you?:confused3:confused3

I have no idea what an imperial conversion even is?!?!? What is that? Should I know what that is? :lmao:

You probably do them all the time....

inches to feet, feet to yards, yards to miles, etc.

So, our meal for Magic Kingdom will be Crystal Palace! That is a sure thing. Just not sure if we should do early breakfast or lunch.

I'd vote for breakfast. I've eaten both breakfast and lunch there and liked the breakfast more, but, both were reasonable.

Hi Maroo!

For the Crystal Palace, I would do lunch. It's relatively the same as dinner, and the food is always, always excellent. And although I'm sure breakfast is great, and a lot of people rave about it, for me, if you want to have a nice meal, you do lunch. But whatever fits in your schedule is good, too, you know? You'll have a nice time no matter what.

I'm with wings on CG being the best place to see fireworks for a clear shot view, but I'd like to point out you can see them at Citrcio's as well, depending on if you get a table close to the windows.

And I'm horrible to ask about solo dining. One, I've never done it in Disney, and two, as such, I would solo dine anywhere. Anywhere that tickled my fancy, that's where I'd go! So, I ask you.... ::::takes out pen, paper, and looks thoughtful, nodding to the black physcho-analyst couch:::: what does Maroo really want? :goodvibes

Our original plan was CP for lunch...so we might stay with that. Part of it depends on how late we plan to stay out the night before, I guess. :)

Ah...Citricio's...I need to look at that one...again!!

Hi Maroo,

10days in September, great time to go to the land of Magic.. You are considering the POP resort perhaps. We have stayed there 3 times and are planning to stay again from 10-19th of September. We love it there and the Dining plan is awesome. We are taking advantage of that as well.

Looking forward to hearing more of your plans.:)

Hello - just popping in real quick as I am still heaving boxes around.

I wanted to add my input on the Wishes meal. Believe it or not, I have eaten at all those places! (I love my fireworks, but we tend to watch them from farther away because Mark is very sensitive to loud noises)

So: I think it's between Cali Grill, Ohana, Citricos and I'll make sure you're also considering Narcoosees. You should consider what you want in a restaurant, how good a view you'd like, and also the chances of actually getting that view:

Cali Grill: great food all around (based on our 2 fantastic meals there). Upscale but still bustling (actually a bit noisy, so we were cool with the kids, although there aren't that many). Many tables near window, but no guarantee. BIG PLUS for me on Cali Grill is that you can go out to the observation deck to watch Wishes, so there's no problem if you don't have the perfect table view. Highes spot in WDW I think, certainly highest view of MK. From the observation deck, you feel like you're very close to Space Mountain. You get a "big picture" view of Wishes. My favourite hands down, but I think this is also because of some very special family memories. And they spoiled us rotten on Mark's wish trip.

Ohana: Food is plentiful - unlimited - and pretty good, but not in the class of the other 3 restaurants. Great spot for kid watching because they have lots of dances/races etc for them during the meal. Lots going on! I'd check out the menu and be sure that the food choices appeal to me. We enjoyed this one mostly because the boys did. And my hubby enjoyed the unlimited food, but caliber is just OK, not great. Only views of Wishes will be limited window seats. We were very lucky that a lovely family invited our boys to sit up with them so they had a good view (this is what happens when they spot Mark's walker!). If you're not at the window, the view isn't very good, can be frustrating. It's also further away and yes, there are trees.

Citricos: food was great, and this was definitely the quietest of these restaurants. Fewer children around. A great chance to check out the Grand Floridian (come early to have a drink in the lobby lounge and listen to the band). We didn't watch the firewoeks from here because of timing, but given the location, the view from tables near the windows would be good. I'd check that the music is piped in, though. Remember also that at the GF, you can always go down to the ferry launch beside Narcoosees, and watch and hear from there.

Narcoosees: We have had 2 good meals there - lots of yummy seafood, but steak gets rave reviews there too. A nice combo of quite upscale but enough noise and bustle for kids, and there are quite a few. There are many tables with fews of the lagoon, and either MK, the Poly etc. Yes, they pipe in the Wishes music, but the big problems with the window seat table are there aren't that many of them and also, people sometimes stand right in front of the windows! There's a deck right outside the restaurant for restaurant patrons and everyone heads out. I've seen people inadvertently block a window view and unfortunately, I've also seen people do it on purpose! This happened during our November trip. A lovely young teen was celebrating her bday at a great window table. I politely pointed out that these 2 couples have blocked the bday girl's view (there was lots of room elsewhere along the railing) and I was aghast when one of the men told me "well if the birthday girl wants to see the fireworks, she can come out here with the rest of us." That one was definitely not feeling the magic!!!

Ah, but what goes around comes around. This guys wanted the primo spot for his pictures. But he'd had a few too many, leaned his arms out to take a picture...and dropped his camera right in the water!!! Oh, how we had to fight hard not to laugh out loud, clap and cheer!!!

Gee, I'd forgotten all about that moment.

My order of favourite? Cali Grill, Narcoosee's, Citricos, Ohana.

Let us know what you decide!

First...I can't wait to hear about your trip!!! :) I do hope one day you will share all of that spoiling with us. :) I love to hear stories about some sweet Wish Kids getting spoiled. :cloud9:

Thank you so much for your restaurant reviews!! :)

Ok...

Ohana is out for this particular meal...but I might go there on the night I have by myself!

And Citricos may be too quiet? I am really not looking for quiet....I don't think?

Narcossees...Gosh...another one to put on the list...

I think it is going to be Cali Grill for the fireworks night! I really wanted to eat there when we went in October and it just didn't happen. So, it has been on my wish list the longest...

Now lets see if I can fit in these other restaurants somewhere in the next few trips! I do plan to get to ALL of them ... hopefully in the next year or so! :)

Dropped his camera right in the water!! How funny. :) I would have just laughed right there, I do believe!!!

Hmm...

Now that sounds fun! :) But maybe something I do on my own one night. That would be so relaxing. Can anyone just go to the beach and hang out and watch them? What would you take to sit on? I can imagine a hammock...do they have a hammock you can chill on? :)

Flights! Flights! Flights!

The DISboards save the day again! :) I saw "Breaking News" on another thread (thank you - TK) and booked my Southwest flight for my September trip! :cool1:

It was sorta strange...because the non-stop flight was already "full" or "unavailable"...very odd. Considering this is the first day to be able to book it! Even business class was booked up. Makes me nervous, honestly...why would someone book a whole plane to Orlando on Labor Day weekend? From Mississippi? :confused3

But, it really doesn't matter, because I have to take the long flight with the stop in Houston - which is literally BACKWARDS? - because I can't take off any time from work on that day. I will leave straight from work (get off at 3:00) and go to the airport. I won't arrive in Orlando until 11:30 (but 10:30 my time!). It will be a late night!

My return flight is on Sunday at 3:00 something...which will give me a little more time to hang out in Disney and still get me home at a decent hour! :)

And all of this for... $220! That is not too bad. I may be able to get a DING fare between now and then...although I sort of doubt it since I am flying Labor Day weekend there and returning on a Sunday. But $220 is not bad for round trip! :) Now I just need to figure out how to get out of parking at the airport!

Ok...

So, experts out there...How do I do Magical Express? Southwest does not participate, right? And it is after 11:00 anyway...so I would have to get my luggage either way.

Will I have trouble getting a Magical Express pick up that late? How will they know I am there? I am a little nervous about this whole bus thing - not grossed out by the bus - just wondering if it will take me where I need to go...is it reliable?

DME: There's confusion about what a "participating" airline means

Southwest DOES participate with luggage transfers. What they DON'T participate in is resort check in. What you do is go to concierge to print your boarding pass 24 hours prior to departure. But otherwise - you're covered for transportation.

However, since you're coming in late (past 10PM)- you'll need to pick up your luggage from what I understand. This has recently changed - I know with certainty that they won't deliver luggage 24/7 anymore (any airline, not just southwest). So your best bet is to pick up the luggage when you arrive (or I'm assuming they'll deliver it the next day.). But you should confirm with the CM at Disney (via CRO).

Was that helpful or just more confusing? LOL

But, I also will check DING each day and just re-book or whatever I would have to do and use the credit on a later flight. I will be going back to the World 3 times within the year...surely I will fly at least once! :thumbsup2

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Woo-hoo for flights!

We have taken Magical Express and a private service (van) and had good experiences with both.

Magical Express is open to anyone flying into and out of Orlando and staying at a WDW resort. There are select airlines that allow you to check into your departing flight and check your bags at your resort instead of lugging them to the airport on DME and checking them yourself.

You should have no problem getting DME at that time but I believe you would need to get your own bags and take them on the bus since arrival is after 10pm. Late at night they sometimes wait a little bit for other arrivals but that should be the only issue. The other catch to DME is that your return bus will pick you up at the airport three hours prior to your departure time so it cuts into touring on your last day.

We had no issues both times we used DME.

We had a van transport us last time as we were tight on time due to an ADR and were happy with that as well. I am not sure if I can post the name of the company we used but feel free to PM if you want the information.

It will work out just fine either way!

So awesome! You have a flight! You're practically there now- okay, okay, well not really, but it IS one step closer. You'll have to let us know how Southwest went. I always go with the cheapest flight no matter how it gets there, cuz that's more money to spend at the parks. Unless, of course, it would mean too many less hours AWAY from the my vacay. I guess it's all such a balancing act in figuring out who to go with and what flight!

I am going to have to get with my friend to have her tell me when she is coming in...and then figure out transportation from the airport! I imagine it will be Magical Express, but that I will have to grab my own luggage.

:cheer2: Woo-hoo for flights!

I am not sure how I am going to do this. I am tempted to do a hire...just because it would get me there fast since I am coming in so late. Plus, it might give me a little more time on the back end, too. Maybe enjoy a little more park time!

:banana:Yay on flights! You got a great rate.

Thanks!!   I just read your TR!! :)

That's awesome news about the flight!:cool1: I can't believe the flight is so packed...then again, how big is the plane?

That flight that was packed...is actually completely sold out. Or at least "unavailable"... I am not sure why? Maybe they canceled the flight? But I can't imagine why? It is the Friday of Labor Day weekend? Maybe there is a school group or something traveling and they needed the whole plane? :confused3

yah for flights :cool1:

Thanks!!! :) I am super excited!

Hi!! YAY for booking your flights! We love South West. We're using them again in May.

I love Southwest, too!! :) Cheap and not a bunch of fees! :)

Almost there! :thumbsup2 I would imagine it is a lot harder for you to get a flight all the way over here!! :) That is some major flying!!! :)

We are staying at POR!!! I am excited, especially since we have heard that this is a pretty quiet resort, which is what you want for a Disneymoon!!

And we are very happy with our Southwest deal!!!

Hope the end of your week is going well!

Perfect! That will be a great place to Disneymoon! You guys are going to have so much fun. Disney is both fun and romantic! :)

The end of my weeks has been pretty crazy. Lauren's "Sweet 16" birthday party is on Saturday. Since her Mom is on crutches, the rest of us have been very busy getting stuff bought, food, decorations, etc taken care of! :)

Sweet 16! So nice! I hope it is a great party!

Oh it was a wonderful party!!

The weather was stormy and she still had about 50 people show up for the party, which is about what we expected. We took about 500 pictures of the "Hollywood" themed party (we had 2 paparazzi that took pics all night). I don't have the cameras, so I don't have the pictures yet...but as soon as I get some, I will post them.

Lauren's friends donated decorations, photography services, food, music...it was a wonderful outpouring from lots of folks to help Lauren have a special 16th birthday! Since Lauren can't drive, we wanted to make it extra special!

Lauren looked beautiful and everyone had a great time! Muffin even got to "dress up" and come.

I will post pics as soon as I can get some from our "official photographer."

Maroo,

I followed the link at the bottom of your post from when you posted on Tyler's Wish report and ....... we are at the same resort! I couldn't decide between it and All Star Sports where I have stayed twice. I let my 8 year old pick and she picked Pop! I have been in your position when I had to get up at the crack of dawn to make reservations, but we received a code for Free Dining in January. Now we will definitely have to meet up! Now I just need to get up at the crack of dawn to make dining reservations!

I promised y'all pictures of Lauren's Sweet 16 Birthday party!!

I actually am going to have to do this in 2 parts...These are the pictures I took and the pictures that the professional took will have to be posted later...I don't have those yet!

These were not with my camera, as mine is dead...I used one of her extra cameras...

The theme was Hollywood...Here are some of the decorations...

We took pictures of each party guest as they came to the door and introduced each by name to the other party guests!

This is Brandi, one of Lauren's best friends...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/lauren%20sweet%2016/DSC_0423.jpg

And then...**drum roll, please!!**

The Guest of Honor, being escorted by a very nice young man who is sheltering her from the rain...

Isn't she BEAUTIFUL!!!! My next set of pictures will probably have one of her that is better, too!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/lauren%20sweet%2016/DSC_0432.jpg

Lauren requested that Muffin attend the party...every movie star needs a cute little dog!

I just LOVE this picture of William!!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/lauren%20sweet%2016/DSC_0426.jpg

You will have to just imagine Lauren dancing in this one! She was twirling around and around. :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/lauren%20sweet%2016/DSC_0523.jpg

The funniest picture of the night...And hopefully you will see this fast, because when Lisa finds out this is on here...she is going to kill me and then have me remove it. Well, actually she will probably have me remove it first and THEN kill me.

She looks EVIL in this picture. I assure you, she is not. She just didn't want me to take her picture and screamed...NO...and then proceeded to take a swing at me with her crutch!! As you can see, I took the picture anyway!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/lauren%20sweet%2016/DSC_0481.jpg

But...the best picture of the night...Lauren and her Daddy...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/lauren%20sweet%2016/DSC_0560.jpg

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY LAUREN! Beautiful Party - so much fun - I want to be a part of the fun! PERFECT theme, and  Muffin - How sweet to include Muffin Maroo you tell such a great story with the pics - thank you for sharing!! Poor Lisa - she has to know how important to the story she is!! (healing vibes :wizard:) I say keep the picture so next time she'll smile!! (it worked for someone I know... :rolleyes1) and I cant forget WILLIAM!! :thumbsup2 (I'm sure he doesnt appreciate how handsome he is!)

Do they pipe in the music too? I may have to think about this myself. :)

YES - usually!! We've seen Wishes from the Poly on a few occassions - (hard to get a hammock btw - but its still a great way to see Wishes - but you do miss a bit - the stuff from the castle - Tink flying... but the big stuff is AWESOME!) and Usually the music is piped in - I have discovered that its true - the MK computer system controls the piped music! So if someone forgets to flip that switch - you dont hear it on the beach! :scared:

LOVE Wishes from the Cali Grill - I have pictures surely, its just so awesome there!!

LOL

Very Helpful - and correct - TAKE DME - save that money on other transports for DISNEY, food, souvies, next wdw trip!! That time of night it wont be crowded, and it wont take long - you wont even notice it as you watch the movie on the bus - we've taken a limo company, etc - but now we strictly do DME -

Its really easy to go from Southwest - grab your luggage then head over to DME - just post or read on the Transportation forum!! YOU CAN DO IT!! Truly its easy!

:dance3:

Maroo I had to give up reading TR - it just takes too much of my time!! BUT today is a lazy Sunday, so I entered a click into Pre-trip reports!! and feel guilty I've missed your report!!

Now, my advice about food? well I'd do either Jikos or Boma, not both - mainly because of transportation! We did Boma, and I'm glad we did, we walked around and soaked in the atmosphere - but I truly wouldnt want to do it twice in one visit!!

I have to go back and see what other opinions I can post!! :rotfl2:

EPCOT/World Showcase is our favorite - Do eat at Maroocco (for obvious reasons!!) CS has great options (and their bakery for desserts! YUM!!) I'm not an adventurous eater!! But I truly liked the CS options - Maroocco - dd did a school report and we spent lots of time there! Truly amazing "museum"

1 day at MK - I dont like their dining options - but I have to say... I really hope you will consider doing CP in Jan - and then letting us join you!! Seriously!!

One of the funniest arguments that I hear at Lauren's house is Lauren (15 yr old GIRL) and William (9 yr old BOY) fighting over clothes. :lmao: Lauren is so small that she fits in his. "William, I want to wear that T Shirt!" "No! It's MINE!" :rotfl: :lmao:

Happy belated birthday Lauren!!party:

Thank you so much for your well wishes! I shared them all with Lauren.

In fact...Lauren said something so funny...I was reading them all and trying not to let William feel left out, since he was standing right there...so I stopped and told William the things they were writing about him being handsome, etc...(Which he loved and said that he knew he was handsome! He said, "A ten out of ten!" :lmao:) But Lauren followed that with..."ok, enough about William already...I want to hear more about me!" :lmao: So uncharacteristic of her! And so funny!! She was beaming from ear to ear. I think she misses hearing me tell her everything my "internet friends" are saying about her.

I cant wait for the after trip report - and I am going to keep my fingers crossed that you wont think of me as a stalker and consider having an early CP ressie some time in that Jan trip... :rolleyes1 (of course I keep remembering how early we have to get up for the Half, the Marathon - 3 AM! :scared1: and its a VACATION!!)

I won't think of you as a stalker! :) lol

It would be fun to set up a ressie at the same time! :thumbsup2

Maroo - I was only off the boards for a few days (don't you hate when life gets in the way of the DIS) and I come back to find you have another TR! I am so jealous!

I don't know if you remember but my DH said no more Disney for awhile after we took 3 trips to WDW in 20 months. Well, he may be relenting a little! We just completed a trip with DD to NYC to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway and went to World of Disney twice and I did not see one eye roll. Then, the other night he says out of the blue - I would be okay with a Disney trip if it is a Disney cruise. Now Disney cruises seem to be very expensive so I don't think we will be doing that but I see this as big progress!

Heading over to subsribe to your new TR! No more or I will never keep up!

I am SOOOOO excited that your DH seems to be relaxing on the Disney ban a bit!

Oh, a cruise would be so fun, too!

I decided to put all three of my pre-trippies in this one thread...

I am not sure how that is going to work...so maybe you guys can clue me in? Is this going to work???

Anyway...more to come...I am planning and trying to figure out how to catch all of you guys up without confusing you all! These three trips are going to be so much fun and SO different! So bear with me as I try to organize my thoughts to share them all with you guys! :)

Christmas In Disney

The Cast:

Joyce and Rachel
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/a%20December%20Disney/Dec%20Pre%20Trip%20Report/rachelandjoyce-1.jpg

:goodvibes

The January trip...Is all about me running through the castle!

That's right - I am going to run through the castle! I will probably walk the REST of the half marathon, but I do plan to RUN through that castle!

Dates, where I am staying, who I am raising money for...all of that...will be forthcoming...because, honestly, I don't have those details yet! I just know I am GOING in January!

I was debating this weekend. Trying to decide whether to let the pre-trippie DIE!

Just let it go out to DIS cyberspace.

To let it rest with all of the other half done pre-trip and trip reports...

To give it up altogether!

But I really do need help planning stuff and getting ideas from you guys!

So...should I keep on writing this? :confused3 Or is it all just too confusing?

** December Trip! **

Ok...I need your help with Christmas!

Here is the plan so far...so that you guys are aware...

We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (thank you Joyce and Rachel!). We arrive on a Wednesday and check out on a Sunday.

Plans so far...

Wednesday, December 16th
- arrive and check in to AKL
- If we have time - Soarin' (not sure what else would be top on our list??)
- Late lunch at Le Cellier (2:30 ish?)
- 5:00 show Candlelight Processional
- Immediately leave the park and head to DHS
*** Ellie (4 yrs old and the only child on the trip) and family don't arrive until the afternoon - so they will meet us at DHS!
- Toy Story (don't laugh out loud...we would like to ride it...if possible!)
- Osbourne Lights after the park closes - we plan to wait around as long as they will let us and let the park empty out as we watch the lights. :cloud9:

Thursday, December 17th
- MVMCP!!!! (I am so excited about this, that I will list it first!)
We have no idea what else to do on this day...?? Not planned yet!
We are definitely taking a nap or sleeping in, though!
?? What do we wear???

Friday, December 18th
Joyce has MPS meetings today
- Sleep in! We were out LATE last night!
We have no plans for today, either?
- MUST Go to bed early...early day tomorrow!

Saturday, December 19th
- Early ressie at CRT! As close to 8:00 as possible! For all 7 of us?? Not sure on that yet? This is VERY early for us. It will take a while to get ready and out the door...
- I personally hope that we get to catch Spectro and Wishes on Saturday night? Not sure we make it that long, though?

Sunday, December 20th
- Check out and drive home...long drive!

So...we don't have much planned yet. We wanted to get the Candlelight Processional "out of the way" before Ellie got there, because we want to see it, but did not think that Ellie would enjoy that as much as we would.

We have medical issues that will need to be considered and won't be planning any other meals. Rachel may get tired and need to rest. So we are only doing those TWO ADR's!

So...help me...poke holes in my plan! Add suggestions? What Christmas activities are we missing???

I would like to go around to the resorts? I know they are beautiful!

What else do we need to catch? :confused3

well i can certainly answer the what to wear to mickeys mvmcp...customs of course....matching longsleeved tees with mickey heads and santa hats or if you so choose, holiday iron ons... you must all coordinate it will look so cute in the pics. we went two years ago for the first time. it was amazing, crowded but amazing. we slept in went to downtown disney and went to the park around 5 ish and got in with our party tickets. we tried to make the first night before christmas show, but got closed out. we had lined up about 45 minutes before. we were upset, but went to see some characters. we were able to get in the second showing of mickeys night before christmas, first parade, two dance parties (tons of fun) the castle forecourt show and cookies and cocoa and a glimpse of the fireworks. we only did one ride. we spent a lot of time getting character pics, because we wanted them in their christmas clothes LOL . my kids have pics in their mickey and minnie jammies with mickey and minnie in their christmas outfits. (we waited about 45 minutes for that) but what a christmas card. so i would have to say be prepared read as much as you can and decide what you really want to see. i still feel bad i missed belles story time, but it is a reason to go back. osbourne lights was our favorite thing about the holiday and mgm had a great christmas parade then too. it is just so magical have fun. sorry for the rambling the whole thing started because i was just going to tell you to wear customs (what a shock right?) who knows you might want to throw in a twirl skirt ;)

My advice for the MVMCP is the same as Kim's... Get to the shows and parade route as early as possible!!!

We did the party in '05 (Pre-DIS) and we couldn't get seats for the last Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas a half-hour before the show!! It was completely full!

We managed to find a so-so spot for that awesome parade.... again, half hour before parade time!! I know you'll probably have Rachel in the w/c, but those H/A spots fill up very quickly, so don't wait!

I thought the parade alone was worth the price of the party!! :cloud9:

Oh... and I got the cutest hairband with Minnie ears / sparkly Santa hat at the Emporium!!!

There are 2 parade locations reserved for persons with disabilities. One at Liberty Square and one to the right of the Partners Statue when you are looking at the castle. I would make sure to get there at least an hour before the parade maybe more depending on how crowded the party is. We usually go to the second one because it usually isn't as crowded.

I think that cheat sheet was an immense help- at least for me! I think I was thoroughly confused before this, and even got screwed up on one of our phone calls once or twice! :lmao:

So, Christmas help... sorry, never been there, or done that. But it all really does sound fun! Someday, I'd LOVE to see the Candlelight Proc. It looks so beautiful from the pictures and descriptions.

Questions... will you guys be using WDW transportation or your own van?? Will you take the boat over to DHS from Epcot?? Just wondering how long you had in mind for hopping.

Could someone stop at DHS earlier and pick up TSM fast passes for you all on the way to EPCOT?? That might give you a better chance of riding it? :confused3

Open to suggestions??

Why not tour the monorail resorts on your party day?? After a good sleep in, of course! You could leisurely hit the GF, and the Poly, eat lunch at one of those, see the decorations, etc.. then get over to the MK in plenty of time.

I think with the med. issues, you are very wise to limit the ressies! And the 2 you've picked sound great! I think just playing the rest by ear will be good. Maybe you will get to try some CS you haven't before :goodvibes

Just my 2 cents :)

Thank you so much for all of the hints! I told the group last night (we had a Disney "conference call" - how funny is that? :rotfl:) that we had to all wear matching shirts! Justin was not on the call and I am sure he will freak, but the rest of us have decided to wear matching shirts! So, now I just need some design ideas!

My advice for the MVMCP is the same as Kim's... Get to the shows and parade route as early as possible!!!

We are definitely going to get there early! Our only object during the Christmas party will be to do the Christmas stuff...if we get to ride anything else, it will be a bonus!

Thank you!!!! :) I don't know if Ellie will make it to the second parade? :confused3 I think we are going to have to play that by ear! Hopefully we can get good "seats" so that Rachel can see.

Christmas Party Plan:
- Arrive at 4:00 or earlier (with a ticket)
- Ellie is getting a BBB makeover today, probably in the late afternoon so that she will be all pretty for the big party!
- Eat an early supper
- Line up for Twas the Night Before Christmas early for the 7:00 show
- (Depending on how long Ellie is going to stay up) Line up at the front of the castle by the statues (HC seating area) for the 8:30 parade
- Have someone get us Hot Chocolate and cookies or some sort of snack while we wait
- Watch the castle show as we wait and take lots of pics of the beautiful castle!
- Watch the parade
- Possibly try to catch some characters or a ride before Wishes
- Not sure where we will be for Wishes?
- MUST get to a DANCE party at some point in the evening for Ellie - this was BY FAR the favorite part of our Halloween Party experience with Lauren

If we can stay out later with Ellie (and Rachel, for that matter), then we will try to catch the second parade!

that's nice

- I personally hope that we get to catch Spectro and Wishes on Saturday night? Not sure we make it that long, though?

Sunday, December 20th
- Check out and drive home...long drive!

So...help me...poke holes in my plan! Add suggestions? What Christmas activities are we missing???

I would like to go around to the resorts? I know they are beautiful!

What else do we need to catch? :confused3

I will put my .02 in. :surfweb:

Wednesday------I have to agree with All7OfUs with having someone be the runner to TSM on the first day before you get to Epcot. By the time you get to DHS the FP will all be gone... but you might get lucky with a shorter standby wait.:confused3 If this is going to be your only Epcot day I would make a list ranking the top rides and try to see how many you can hit.

Thursday----- Once again I will double what All7OfUs (Liesa?? I think??) said..... Sleep in. Have a late breakfast then head over to the monorail. You can stroll through CR, Poly, & GF. Have a late lunch 2-3ish. Then head to MK for the party. I'm pretty sure you can get in with your ticket at 4pm. As what to wear... I'm a guy, I just put on whatever is clean! LOL I'm sure you ladies will have some cute christmas attire. I would keep a jacket with you though... it might get cool once the sun goes down.

Friday----- You said you wanted to sleep in. When you get up maybe AK would be an option. You can get there late and leave early. Hit a few rides or a show and you can be back early to AKL for dinner. Or just go back and get ready to go to DTD or somewhere??:rotfl:

Saturday----- With the early ressie you can stay at MK till the early afternoon then go back later to catch Wishes. I don't know if this is a good option though with the wheelchair.?.?.?

Sunday----- After you check out goto Kona for breakfast and get your last 'taste' of Disney ie: Tonga Toast. You can see the castle from here and say your goodbyes.:sad1::sad1:

DISCLAIMER: these are only suggestions. YMMV

I think that cheat sheet was an immense help- at least for me! I think I was thoroughly confused before this, and even got screwed up on one of our phone calls once or twice! :lmao:

I am so glad this cleared everything up for ya! :)

Questions... will you guys be using WDW transportation or your own van?? Will you take the boat over to DHS from Epcot?? Just wondering how long you had in mind for hopping.

This is a good question! I think we will use the van that first night, since parking is fairly close for HC at Epcot and DHS has close parking as well.

Not sure about the other days. We will probably use Disney transportation most days, unless it proves to be unreliable. I have never used the Disney transportation...so I am not sure yet.

We do have the van, but it won't hold all of us. So some of us, at least, will have to use Disney transportation and there will be several points when we will all split up so that Rachel can rest, etc.

I didn't even know there WAS a boat to hop from Epcot to DHS...how late can you get BACK? I tend to think we will take the car, because we have the handicapped tag...if not, I would take the boat.

Could someone stop at DHS earlier and pick up TSM fast passes for you all on the way to EPCOT?? That might give you a better chance of riding it? :confused3

This is totally dependent on what sort of help Disney will give us in the form of a GAC (Guest Assistance Card). Rachel has extra medical issues, in addition to just using a wheelchair, that will not allow her to wait in a long line. It is possible that Disney will allow her to use a GAC and be able to use the Fastpass line or handicapped entrance for all attractions. We won't know this until we get there.

Sometimes these lines (Toy Story is a GREAT example) are actually a little longer than the regular line. Toy Story, for example, has a Fast Pass line, but then you break off that line and go to the handcapped line where the special cars load. Rachel will have to wait for a special car to come get her, and depending on the number of people requiring the special car, her wait may be longer than someone walking on the ride.

But, if we can get this GAC, then it will allow us a little more freedom to get to a park later or leave earlier and still be able to ride. This will help Rachel to be able to experience the parks and not completely wear herself out in the process.

Soarin' and Toy Story are two rides that Rachel can ride, but won't be able to if we are not able to get the GAC that will allow her to fastpass an attraction. :sad2:

Rachel can't ride any roller coaster or thrill ride and won't need the GAC for shows. So there are just a few occasions we would even use it.

She probably won't be able to make rope drop at DHS or Epcot, because our one early morning will be the CRT ressie. It will be difficult to get all of her medical stuff done and to the park that early and we certainly won't be able to do that more than one morning (and we will cut the night before VERY short to be able to get up early enough to make it).

Why not tour the monorail resorts on your party day?? After a good sleep in, of course! You could leisurely hit the GF, and the Poly, eat lunch at one of those, see the decorations, etc.. then get over to the MK in plenty of time.

This is so funny! We JUST talked about this last night! We determined that Rachel and Joyce will skip seeing the decorations. They just can't do it all and what we have on the schedule already (including the meetings they will have for their convention) simply will not allow them to do everything. So they are going to skip the decorations.

However, I have offered to take care of Ellie on Friday evening so that her parents can have some time to have a nice dinner or something. Ellie has only met me once and we think she likes me and hopefully will trust me enough by Friday to let me tour her around a little while her parents eat. If this works out, then probably Rosemary and I will take Ellie to the GF and show her the decorations and get a snack while her parents eat a nice meal (maybe at the GF?). Then we may ride the monorail around and see some of the other resorts or even Epcot. We will stay on the monorail system and somewhere close so that Ellie feels comfortable. And spoil her rotten for those few hours!

Then we will head quietly back to the room, because Rachel will be asleep by the time we get back to prepare for an early morning ressie! CRT!!!

I think with the med. issues, you are very wise to limit the ressies! And the 2 you've picked sound great! I think just playing the rest by ear will be good. Maybe you will get to try some CS you haven't before :goodvibes

Shoot...I plan to eat at Casey's every meal! :lmao:

Thanks for the "cheat sheet"! That definitely helps!
I don't think I can offer up anymore suggestions on MVMCP than have already been given! But I just wanted to say that MVMCP was by far the most fun we've had at Disney! I know there are some people who don't enjoy it, but we had the best time and no problem with heavy crowds. We went on a Tuesday night and went to the 2nd parade! If you can't make it to the 2nd one then do like the others have said and just get a seat as early as possible!

He he!! I think I was answering half of these while you were typing them! :)

I will put my .02 in. :surfweb:

By the time you get to DHS the FP will all be gone... but you might get lucky with a shorter standby wait.:confused3 If this is going to be your only Epcot day I would make a list ranking the top rides and try to see how many you can hit.

Unfortunately, we would all have to actually BE in DHS in order to do this. We would all have to go through the turnstiles to have one person go get the FP. It will be fairly late in the day before we are even able to get out. And they may not even have any more Toy Story fastpasses.

It is so hard to explain what it takes to get us out the door, loaded on a bus or van, and back off...it isn't as simple as just "running in" or something like a family would that is not using a power chair. I didn't really understand it until I was living with Lauren...how long everything takes. Just getting buckled in a car takes minutes...not seconds like a "regular" family.

We would not have the time. :sad2: And if we did, the energy it would take for us to do all the hopping back and forth would wear Rachel out and now allow her to experience the rest.

We will literally skip Toy Story and Soarin' if we are not able to get a GAC. Rachel can't ride Test Track, Mission Space or Spaceship Earth. She actually COULD ride Spaceship Earth...but have you ever seen the stairs in that thing?!?!? And it breaks often...to often for my taste. She would need the fire department to get her out of there and it is not worth the risk for her. Too dark and too high up. If she could walk a little or even stand up on her own, it would be different. If she was as small as Lauren and I could carry her down the stairs, it would also be different. But she has opted to skip that ride! (And I think she rode it when she was younger and could walk...so she has experienced it!)

I think we are going to wear matching longsleeved shirts! Cute!! :goodvibes See my answer above about the decorations. I can't wait to see them, though!!

Friday----- You said you wanted to sleep in. When you get up maybe AK would be an option. You can get there late and leave early. Hit a few rides or a show and you can be back early to AKL for dinner. Or just go back and get ready to go to DTD or somewhere??:rotfl:

This is highly possible!! We plan to focus on AK and MK because there are lots of things at both that everyone is interested in. Epcot will be only that first day, as they don't really care for it as much. And we will try to see Beauty and the Beast and ride Toy Story at DHS...but that will basically be it there. They are either not interested or can't ride the rest at DHS.

Saturday----- With the early ressie you can stay at MK till the early afternoon then go back later to catch Wishes. I don't know if this is a good option though with the wheelchair.?.?.?

This is actually the plan... Not sure at this point in the trip how much more Rachel can take? And not sure if they will be showing Spectro. One consideration is that it will be VERY crowded, because the past 2 nights will be MVMCP...so everyone will have that same goal...so see Wishes and probably Spectro, but I do want them to see it. I will have seen it about 5 times by then...but I would like for them to get to experience it!

Sunday----- After you check out goto Kona for breakfast and get your last 'taste' of Disney ie: Tonga Toast. You can see the castle from here and say your goodbyes.:sad1::sad1:

Ah.... :cloud9: What a GREAT idea!!!!

:wave2: Hello, Mississippi friend! How are ya?

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I am the MOST excited about the MVMCP for this trip and really hope we are able to sleep in and nap so that we can experience the whole thing! The second parade would be a GREAT goal!!

I need to talk to Gina (Ellie's mom) and see how late she can stay up (theoretically)...it will be the first full day in Disney...so that should help!

We are definitely going to get there early! Our only object during the Christmas party will be to do the Christmas stuff...if we get to ride anything else, it will be a bonus!

That's exactly my attitude toward the after-hours parties... special stuff first, then rides if you can fit them in! :thumbsup2

I absolutely love your idea of taking Ellie around to see all the resorts done up for Christmas... she'll love the huge gingerbread house at the GF!! And what kid doesn't love the monorail?? :goodvibes How sweet of you to offer to take care of her while her Mommy and Daddy have a quiet dinner alone! :lovestruc:lovestruc I'm sure that's something they would appreciate more than any wrapped present!

Hey Maroo!

Thanks for the cheat sheet!

My two cents on MVMCP is that we were a little disappointed. Not in the shows, parades or decorations (which were amazing!) but it was extremely crowded and this was in mid November. Plus, the timing of shows, parades, fireworks etc and the amount of time you have to wait to get into them makes it very hard to do it all.

I have two suggestions. . .find out which things are everyone's top priority for the party and secondly, some of the special Christmas things done at the party are also held during a regular MK day as it gets close to Christmas. I would find out if that is the case when you are there and for any of the things you are interested in and postpone those to another time at the MK.

Also, Ellie is a wild card. My DD can stay up until 11pm when needed but party night she crashed out in her stroller before the first parade even started. Just be prepared with a back-up plan just in case.

We arrived at MK in the afternoon on our party day and rode rides etc. and got our party wristbands. Then we went to the first Twas the Night Before Christmas. This worked out well because it was at 7pm and not everyone was there and planned yet. We went in about 30 minutes prior and had no issues getting seats. We were going to attempt the castle show afterward but it was insane in front of the castle so we went to grab a spot for the parade. We went to Liberty Square and got a great front row spot (there is an area in LS for wheelchairs etc too) for the parade.

hope this helps!

You are so sweet! I would enjoy it as much as them! It is one of the cool things about kids that aren't yours...you can spoil them, have fun and then give them back. ::yes::

And spoiling a child in Disney...how cool is that?!?!

Yeah...I am afraid this party will be crowded as well. Although it is on a Thursday night, it is one of the last parties and is set as a premium party.

We definitely plan to hit the first show of Twas the Night Before Christmas. I just hope I can get the group on the same page to do that first.

That is a great idea...to find out what things will be offered already at MK without the party. We will be there another full day, probably, so we should be able to get to all of the Must Dos on their list!

I am so looking forward to this trip!!!

Oops! I had forgotten that everyone needs to enter with their ticket before you can get FPs. Bummer!

So how about this??

Enter through DHS, get all your FPs, maybe even do it! Then, since you are going over to EPCOT next anyway, head over there by boat (yes, there is a boat, and I think it's about a 30 minute ride and very nice!) and do Soarin' and take a stroll around WS while you wait for your Le Cellier ressie. Then, go back to DHS via boat and finish up your day over there. I know it will be extra travelling, but I don't think it would be too labor intensive since she could stay in the chair on the boat both ways.

Just a thought...

This is a good idea!

I just need to find out from the gang how bad they want to ride Toy Story. You know, Lauren actually watched the loading and unloading and decided she couldn't take the jerkyness...(I know, I am making up words!)...so it is possible that Rachel will not even want to ride it?

Crazy, huh! Since it is the big favorite of many people!! :)

Back to the September trip. :thumbsup2

Confused? Check the CHEAT SHEET! (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31873432&postcount=188) ::yes::

As far as meals...I am still trying to plan our ADR's. My call in date is coming up soon!!! June 6! Can you believe it?! We are almost 3 months out!!

Think with me, if you will...DHS...

We are going to have an evening at DHS and we want to eat at a Table Service restaurant. I have ruled out 50's because we went there last year and I think Sharon would like more healthy choices (we would be so tempted by the fried Southern cookin!). I have also ruled out Sci Fi because the atmosphere is not what I am looking for in this meal.

Sharon is interested in eating at "different" places...places with character and good food.

I am thinking between Brown Derby, Mama Melrose and Hollywood and Vine. I know Brown Derby is 2 credits...so I am not sure if it is worth it? :confused3

Have you guys eaten at these three places? Help me decide this one!

I have never eaten at the Brown Derby. I enjoyed Mama Melrose for the atmosphere and the food. The only time that I have done Hollywood and Vine was at lunch with the characters: JoJo, Goliath, and the Little Einsteins. I am assuming it is still a buffet for dinner and it is not too fancy. I hope this helps! :)

mama melrose i gave it two chances, couldnt stand it. but in fairness i am from ny and am pretty picky about my italian food.

I think we might try Mama Melrose in October. There are so many Italian restaurants in CT... probably second behind NYC. These are real Italian restaurants not the 'Olive Garden' ones either. I've researched (via DIS) Mama Melrose and as every restaurant review on here, people have a love/hate feeling about it. I would hope that the food would be good but I also realize that I'm not eating Italian on Mulberry St. in NYC. I feel like there aren't too many choices for TS in DHS.

On a side note.... I don't think I put this in my TR but when we were waiting to be seated at Tony's in MK, I was standing near a guy that was complaining to a CM about something food related. I couldn't hear the conversation fully but when the manager came over the guy was like... I know what Italian food is and this isn't Italian food. You don't know what real Italian food is.....I know because I'm from New Jersey!

I don't know what his problem was but I thought is was funny. People have to realize that Tony's isn't 5 star Italian dining. LOL:rotfl:

I'm so picky about my Italian food. Besides being 1/2 italian, like you, I'm surrounded by fantastic Italian restaurants all over the place. Have to love CT for it's Italian restaurants. I can't even remember the last time I've gone to the Olive Garden. Why bother? Your local mom and pop place is so much better.

I've never done Momma Melrose's, but have always been a bit iffy on trying. I used to love Alfredos, but haven't been to the new place in Epcot. The last time I went to Tony's it was awful. Seriously, one of the worst meals of my trip. Second only to a CS lunch at the ABC Commisary. My appetizer tasted like it had been nuked in a microwave too long, the main course was passable, but nothing special at all, and my dessert tasted like it had freezer burn. The friend I went with had picked different things from me, and had loved hers, but for me it was just yucky.

I can offer no help at all.

I'm just posting so you'll know I'm here!

Haven't eaten at Brown Derby or Mama's. Only Play 'n Dine at Hollywood and Vine for both breakfast and lunch. The buffet selections at lunch were very good; can't imagine they'd be much different for dinner.

The atmosphere is very retro-Hollywood... art deco... chrome trimmed tables... pretty murals on the walls. We liked it!

We ate at Brown Derby in November and the food was great. We ate at Hollywood and Vine, but for breakfast and that food was good also. We would be willing to go back to either restaurant.

Note: The characters are only at Hollywood and Vine for breakfast and I think lunch.

Maroo,
I know you are on vacation (if you can call it that LOL) but I found a thread with someone asking about TS meals in DHS. As of now there isn't anything too telling in it, but you might get some random opinions. Check it out when you have time.:goodvibes

Tim

Well, right this second I am sitting in a nice hotel room and DISing...so it certainly feels like a vacation! But I have a feeling that may end soon. :) I will do a mini update on here, too, but I already posted the full deal on the Wish Trippers thread... :)

This is great!! Thank you...Maybe I can read it when they are practicing at some point here!

Kathy

You are so funny!! Thanks for posting! :) This is helpful!

We ate at Brown Derby in November and the food was great. We ate at Hollywood and Vine, but for breakfast and that food was good also. We would be willing to go back to either restaurant.

Note: The characters are only at Hollywood and Vine for breakfast and I think lunch.

Hmm...sounds like a lot of you guys like Brown Derby...and H&V.... :scratchin

Tim mentioned I was on vacation and since a lot of you guys have been following Lauren through my reports, I should let you know that she is sick today. Our first full day of this mission trip (we are in Chicago) and she is sick.

We are hoping if we let her sleep for a long time that she will perk up when she wakes up. We are actually going to the zoo today after our concert, so I am hoping she is up for something like that.

We traveled for 15 hours before we got here yesterday and went to sleep quite late. I think it was just a little much for her.

Anyway...that is the update for today from Chicago!

Oh, and you guys should pray for my driving!!! This city has some crazy interstates and construction like none other!

Thank you, guys!!!

See...I said "guys" instead of "y'all"...and I have only been in Chicago for a few days. :rotfl:

We let Lauren sleep in on Sunday and she was able to rejoin the group on Monday.

Monday was a very long and fantastic day. We were able to do 3 big concerts - two were at a youth detention center (which normally - in fact NEVER - has allowed a youth group to come and volunteer) - and the response from the residents of the detention center was nothing less than amazing, awesome ... I really can't sum it up. But it was a wonderful day!

We ended the evening at a homeless shelter. It was amazing, too!!

Today we are going to a home for disabled children. Lauren is the only person on this trip with a severe disability, so this will be a great opportunity for her.

Anyway...thanks for keeping up with us!

And someone must have been praying for my driving...because I feel much better now. I have figured out that my iPhone is my new best friend!! It has fantastic GPS...I had no idea! :confused3

Here I am late to the party again! Darn life and work keep interfering with my DIS time!

DHS meals - We are not fans of Hollywood and Vine. It is basic buffet fare but we were not very impressed (And we like buffets). I would only do this meal again as a character meal (it is a great character interaction!). We enjoyed Mama Melrose - we weren't raving but we thought is was good. We loved 50's Prime Time but sounds like it is out of the question. I have heard Brown Derby is good but we never eat at 2TS restaurants (except CRT). So I guess all of this rambling leads to - I vote for Mama Melrose.

Glad to hear you are having a great trip to Chicago! Sorry to hear Lauren was sick at first but glad to hear she has recovered and things are going well. Thanks goodness for the iphone - you can DIS and GPS!

GPS...Oh my gosh...you have NO IDEA... I did not even know my phone had GPS maps...and those saved me in Chicago. Those interestates! And we went all over Chicago. We put over 2500 miles on the van in 8 days (and only 1500 was to and from Chicago). :faint: So, I was very thankful to have the GPS.

The trip was wonderful...I am going to do a quick update on that in a minute.

We are BACK!!!!

Eight days in Chicago!! It was great...awesome...words can't really describe the experience...but I will try.

I am going to do a mini...and very toned down, just the highlights...trip report right here for those that are interested. Hold out...because there is some cool Disney stuff!! We had a CM on our trip! :goodvibes

The Cast: 142 Students in a Church Youth Choir, 40+ Chaperones
Lauren is a student, and Maroo (me) and her Mom (Lisa) were chaperones.

Purpose: To do "concerts" and ministry projects in various places in Chicago.

Saturday: We left at 5 AM. We traveled separate from the 3 big tour buses. The big news this day was that we had a flat tire. :scared1: But we were very fortunate to stop at a gas station and notice it before it was a complete blowout and there was a tire shop across the street that was open and able to fix it fairly quickly.

We did set up and a rehearsal at the church the first night. This stage was one of only a few that just were not accessible for Lauren. I was totally upset by this, because I was so afraid we had come all of this way and she would have to sit and watch her peers. But she was totally fine with it. They checked into the hotel about midnight and Lauren went to bed. I stayed up a while and got our luggage off the buses and enjoyed talking to the students while we waited for the elevators (no stairs). :sad2: Our room was awesome! A full suite with a wet bar...it was HUGE!

Sunday morning, 3 AM: Lauren calls for her Mom and is not feeling well. Lisa makes executive decision to keep her at the hotel for the morning worship service at the church so that she can catch up on her sleep and not get sick for the whole trip.

Sunday: The choir led worship and did a rehearsal on Sunday. The church loved it! But we missed it since we were still at the hotel with Lauren.

Then they went to the Zoo. Lauren woke up feeling better and we joined the group at the zoo! We had Dinner and a team meeting at the hotel and went to bed early.

Monday: Big day! Up very early to get through security at a youth detention center. This was a big, completely locked down facility, with many layers of security. *** Disney moment! We were waiting at a check point and were all sitting around talking about their year-round school system and I said that it would be good for going on vacations at Disney World because you could go during a lower crowd time. And one of the people in the room said she agreed...that she was a CM!!! We talked and talked...I was amazed. Turns out, she is one of my favorite characters! (By the way...they LOVE Wish Kids!!!! End of Disney Moment! ***

The choir was the first time any youth under age 21 were allowed to present a program in this facility. The response from the detainees was nothing short of phenomenal.

We did another program in the evening at a homeless shelter/church. This included a great opportunity to feed the homeless and meet many of them. It was a special night!!

Tuesday: The whole choir was able to sleep in a little. We had a program at Misericordia. This is a HUGE community of developmentally disabled adults and children. They allowed Lauren to open the whole program and introduce a song of her choice. Lauren chose a song called "Celebrate" that celebrates life. I was not the only one with tears in my eyes as she spoke about how blessed she was and how she feels like we should celebrate every single day of life, regardless of our circumstances. The residents were nodding in agreement.

The Misericordia choir actually performed for us, too. It was so sweet! They were good!!

We ate dinner at Ed Debevic's (which reminds me of the 50's Prime Time Cafe) and this was a lot of fun. We actually sang and danced WITH the restaurant staff!

Wednesday: Our program this morning was at the IYC for Girls. This is basically a jail, but for juvenile female offenders. They LOVED the singing and dancing and the response from the girls was really touching! They look so hardened by life...but they are so sweet when you really get to talk to them about what is going on in their world.

The evening concert was at a US Naval Base training facility. The choir really enjoyed getting to interact with the Navy.

Our dinner tonight was at a local pizza place with real Chicago pizza!

Thursday: We did two programs for the IYC for Boys. This was a different environment for us, because we were not allowed to talk individually with the boys. They had some recent security violations and were required to stay seated. We were fairly separated from them.

Lauren was given the opportunity to go back to Misericordia to interact with the residents. This was a special time because Lauren is not shy about interacting.

Friday: We did a scaled down version of the program for a public school. This was the only other venue that just did not have a way to get Lauren up on the stage. The stage was quite small for our huge choir, too. The students were able to interact with the choir and we were part of a project where the students interviewed our choir members. It was a neat program!

Friday night was quite interesting. We brought security with the choir. It is our church's policy to have trained security (ours happened to be a Secret Service agent at his real job and volunteered to help us) with the choir. Lauren and I were alone, though, because we got separated from the buses and went by ourselves to wait for the buses to come to the next concert. (It was the same place as our Monday night concert, so I was familiar with the area.) We used the extra time to take Lauren to the rest room. While we were in the Ladies room, I got a phone call to IMMEDIATELY leave the premises and drive 10 blocks in any direction. "Just get out of there." :scared1: I admit, I was scared. I went to high school in a pretty bad area of town in the city where I grew up, so being there didn't phase me...but something was up to have our security guy tell us to leave right then. I tried, as calmly as possible, to get Lauren situated and calmly take all of our stuff and get out of the area.

Turns out a group of our students was on the way to the same restroom (with our security) when they witnessed a violent act (something about a gun? :confused3) and that there were many reports of recent (last 24 hours) of violence in the area.

We decided to do the concert anyway. Lots of security came (friends of our security guy) plus Chicago PD and I definitely felt safe once all of the kids got set up. This was one of our best concerts! It was outside so all of the people on the streets all came up to listen and dance with us. Kids were all playing and dancing. It was a great night!

And that was basically it! We spent our last night on a church floor and it took us about 15 hours to get home yesterday.

The big Homecoming Concert is tonight!

If you guys want more information, I have a website that anyone can check out with pictures and videos of the different days. However, it is distinctly Christian and I am pretty sure it would violate the DIS Rules and has nothing to do with Disney anyway...except the COOL CM that I got to hang out with!! (That was SOOOO cool!) So...if you want the website link, feel free to PM me and I can give it to ya! :)

The CM deal was so, so cool! She was very Disney-like and did not reveal any secrets (although we were certainly pressuring her!)...but I am sure she would not have said a single word if she knew I was a DISer... :rolleyes1

It was very cool to hear what a typical day was like. And the College Program is very interesting! They basically make no money, but the experience is really cool! I would have loved to do something like that when I was that age!! (Heck, can I sign up now?!?)

The Secret Service deal is probably not as cool as it may sound. I did not realize there were Secret Service Agents stationed here in Mississippi. Probably not the glorious job that many associate with Secret Service life. But he was extermely knowledgeable and it certainly was a huge blessing to have his expertise on the trip! :thumbsup2

Ed Devebic's was fun. :woohoo:

We got about as much service as you could expect for 200 people! We pre-ordered our meal, so that was easier for them to take care of us. They did do a little dancing for us, but it was not the same as ordering from the menu and getting a lot of interaction from them!

The best part, though, was when they let us play a track from our concert and sing and dance to THEM! :) I did feel a little sorry for the few regular customers they had, though. But we were very nice to them and even offered to buy one family their dinner.

And we had one regular customer that asked us to perform at their venue. :rotfl:

that's nice

I am so sorry...because I think I have failed to fill you guys in on what is going on in the world of Lauren and her family this week.

I have posted this on the Wish Trippers thread...but I forget that most of you guys over on this board don't really read all of my ramblings over there...

On our way home from Chicago, Lauren's paternal grandmother was rushed to the ER in extreme pain. Lauren's grandmother has severe rheumatoid arthritis, but this has not stopped her from caring for Lauren on a very regular basis and gardening, etc. She is very healthy otherwise.

When she got to the hospital, the pain medicine did not really help much.

They did an immediate CT on Saturday, which showed she did not have a ruptured disc (which was the initial thought). They scheduled the MRI for Monday. The MRI showed a blod clot pressing on her spinal cord. By Monday, she could not move her legs or her hips.

However, because she was on a blood thinner, they had to stop the blood thinner ASAP and start medicine to quickly thicken her blood. They had to wait till Tuesday to do the surgery.

The surgery was a success - they drained/removed the clot. The neurologist, though, said it was one of the biggest clots he has ever seen. Although he acknowldged that no one knows for sure, he did say that there was damage to her spinal cord and they are not sure that she will ever walk again. In fact, his best guess is that she has a 20%ish chance to walk again.

She has been moved to a regular room from the ICU and will be going to a rehab hospital on Monday.

This has massive implications for this family...not only having to figure out how they are going to care for Grandmother (her house is not accessible yet and is old), but also how to fill in the gaps in caring for Lauren. Lauren also has a cousin, one of only 3 grandchildren to Grandmother, that was hit by a car when he was 9. He has a traumatic brain injury. She also cares for him, too.

Also...quick update on William. William took a genetic blood test to see if they could figure out what is up with his GI difficulties and they have determined that he likely has Celiac Disease. They have not started the diet yet, but as soon as they do it strictly for a week, then they will be able to tell us for sure if that is what it is. Right now, though, they are just keeping their heads above water and not too worried about crossing that bridge at this point.

This family has been through so much illness and tragedy. Please pray for them.

And on the pre-trippie front...I should have ADR's to report in the next few days. I think my ADR call in day is Saturday. :goodvibes

Welcome back!
Sounds like you had a very busy schedule! Now you relax! LOL:goodvibes

You know...the plan was to come home and relax some...but with everything going on with Lauren's family, it has not worked out that way. Instead we have had hospital visits and despite Lauren being pretty sick of spending time with me instead of her parents, we have spent more time together this week since her parents are at the hospital, etc.

And now I am sick. Just a sinus infection/bronchitis - and probably because I have not gotten to rest.

Anyway...I DO plan to get some rest this weekend! And do some more Disney Planning! :thumbsup2

Aw man!! You really must subscribe! I can't believe we missed each other! I had no idea you were from the Chicago area. We were ALL OVER Chicago and may have been been in your neck of the woods. But, most of our concerts were private - held in jails, detention centers, homes for the disabled, schools, etc. The one really public concert we had...well...you would have not wanted to be down there. It was dangerous, honestly. Not something we will probably repeat. But we are glad we had such a great crowd of people and it was a diverse crowd, which is refreshing! But we could have met at the Pier or shopping, at the zoo, etc. :goodvibes

We are back on topic now!

And all of this refers to the SEPTEMBER trip! :thumbsup2

I got up quite early this morning (6 AM on a Saturday is just way too early) and called the ADR line. I talked to Jada and was able to secure ALL of my ADR requests! :goodvibes Then I went back to sleep...which I was also quite excited about, to be honest.

Here is what we ended up with...I made a few changes!

We got our early morning Crystal Palace - 8:05!! :woohoo: I can't wait to meet Pooh!

We got an 8:00 PM ressie for California Grill on Labor Day! Wishes is scheduled for 10:00, but we will leave ourselves a little time to get seated, since it is Labor Day and get a good spot in the observation area to see Wishes! I am super excited about this!

I grabbed an 8:45 AM Chef Mickey's ressie for 6 people on my last day - A little DISmeet we have been cooking up with a future wish family! (I will use only one credit for this...Sharon will not be here for this meal).

Then I grabbed Teppan Edo for a dinner spot. I chose Teppan Edo because Sharon spent 6 years in Japan and will enjoy spending some time chatting with those CM's! Plus, we love habachi!

Then I grabbed a Boma Dinner ressie for us. This WAS going to be Jiko. But the more I thought about it, the more I decided it was not worth it to spend all of our TS credits on Signature meals...probably not a great use of our precious credits. But this will be just as good for us...some good African style food and we will get to hang out at the AKL, which I am excited to be able to explore!

Then I grabbed a Boma breakfast for us. Yummy! This was my favorite Disney meal on our Make a Wish trip - so I am excited about this!

And then...last but not least...(actually, I did book this last, because I knew we would be able to get it!)... Brown Derby!! :yay: This has been highly recommended by a few of you guys! We are actually doing lunch here, because that is the way the schedule worked out.

 And right this second...I am having second thoughts...should I have booked DINNER here instead?! I am sure dinner would be a better use of the credits? Is the food completely different?

This leaves one TS credit. It is possible I will end up using this on the last couple of days of my trip...but I have NO IDEA what those last two days will look like yet...I am still waiting on a lot of details. I will probably be doing mostly counter service on those last few days. And I have a lot of CS credits left because we have a meal or two planned at GKTW and we plan to eat breakfast in the room most mornings (to save time and be able to sleep in!)

Here are the counter service meals we are planning...

Sunshine Seasons - another DIS meet with a former wish family! :woohoo:
Flame Tree BBQ
Beaches and Cream (Ice cream for lunch, anyone?)
Earl of Sandwich (is this even on the Dining plan?) :confused3
Tangerine Cafe and
Casey's (of course!)

The rest are up in the air and will depend on where we are!

so...what do you think? Did I do ok here? This is my first ADR planning adventure!

I still have several places on my "master list"...O'hana, Citricos, Jiko....but I am sure I can get to those places in due time!

 You wouldn't be a true DISer if you didn't have second thoughts! But, remember... work your ADRs into your schedule, don't work your schedule around your ADRs! :thumbsup2

Nice job!

Hi. I just came over (from your response to my pre-trip report). I read you report with Lauren. I enjoyed it.

Wow! Three trips in two years!! You are so lucky. I haven't read through yet, but will after I post. I can't wait to read about your trips.

Excellent ressies!

I have to say lunch and dinner at the Brown Derby are quite similar, if not virtually the same menu, so as far as value goes, I don't think it'll really make a difference for you. :thumbsup2
