Was going over the navigators on Dave's sight and..... isn't NHL skills offered for the 10-12 yr olds anymore? This is NOT good for my DS as this is all he is talking about! I think I'm in trouble and how do I break it to him? Maybe they'll offer it again by Oct????

The old navigators on Dave's sight (I think dated December 2001) had NHL Skills Challenge (hockey games) on the Sports Deck as an activity on St. Maarten afternoon for the 10-12's and also for everyone on Thurs (sea day) afternoon. Ian saw it and his eyes lit up!!!! NOW it's NOT there!!!!! ohhhh nooooo.
Good luck tonight! :) :) :) :)

The offered it on our April cruise. They put a couple nets out in the basketball court and the kids can play ball hockey. It was offered for the 10-12 years old club and also on the regular navagator, open to all kids.
It was just what my hockey addicted kids (and husband) needed to get them over hockey withdrawls. We had 15 foot seas and it still didn't stop them from playing!
It would be a shame if they discontinued it.
PS: Odd man out here, but GO RED WINGS!

On our recent May 11th cruise on the Magic the NHL challenge was on Thursday at 10 am.
Me and my son (5) had agreat time playing pickup hockey with about 15 or so fellow cruisers. Played Dads against the kids.
A great time was had by all, but I still feel bad about the little guy from Toronto who seemed to get hurt every time I shot the ball.
He was tough though and the little ones ran circles around us parents.
It would have been great thogh if they had made the euipment available at other times, as it seemed the court it shares with the volleyball setup was not used most of the time, and since we didnt bring our own stuff, just watched it go to waste.

Thanks ilovemky. Unfortunately that was on the Western and I can't find it anywhere on the Eastern navigators (we'll be on the Eastern). Hopefully it'll show up again. Maybe just taking a break and trying something different that week! BTW- are we allowed to take our own equipment? - sticks and tennis balls? THAT would be great!!!!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My DS wasn't happy as he is a Red Wing fan (I TOLD him you always root for the team that beat you so you are eliminated by the best but he said no - oh well!)
I hope you can get the games - if necessary :) :) :)

Since the games are on ESPN you will see them on the Giant screen as well as the smaller ones inside. The ones inside although smaller are much better than the giant screen.
On the may 11 cruise the playoffs were on all the time. It was great to watch the games with so many different fans as opposed to the one sided group you find at the local hangout.
Have a great time.

CANES ARE NUMBER 1 THEY ARE GOING ALL THE WAY!!! GO CANES! :D
All the playoff games were on in the ESPN Skybox during our 5/25 Magic trip. It is a great place to watch games and the bartenders - Miguel and Daniel are great. By the way, Daniel is a Leaf's fan - so you Cane's fans can give him some greif. Also, if you go up there - tell Daniel that Scott wanted to be sure he was still working out at the gym regularly.
WINGS in 5.

Disney6-
I don't know about bringing sticks on the boat, but my 7 year old son brought our local airport to a stand still by trying to carry on his 18 inch Red Wings souvenier hockey stick on the plane (he won't leave home without it!) He was forced to surrender it and have it lock up during the flight.
Must have been Carolina fans....

two4ruff-
We too have travelled by air with hockey sticks and they had to be checked! Last Xmas from Toronto to Atlanta - nobody batted an eye when my son carried his stick through the airport here but in Atlanta......... Just wondered if he brought it if they'd let him and his buddy play when no one else was using the courts. Maybe this is a question I should email Disney with ??? :smooth:
Hey charlotte61 - missing our pm during the series!!!! maybe you can banter with two4ruff.........:D :D :D :D :D :D

We were on the April 27th (2002) Magic 7 day Eastern cruise. And YES they did have NHL skills competion (for kids and adults). I'll check the time from our Navigator, but i think it was Thursday afternoon. They ALSO had a NHL challenge as onbe of the daily kids activities. I I also think it was on St. Maarten day (afternoon).
For those of you that would like to know how the contest works, here it is:
That split you up into two groups (one kids and one adult group)
Each person gets seven shots on goal from half court. This is about a 25 foot shot.
They use a standard street hockey net, BUT then they lay a deck chair down in the goal mouth (this is the goalie)
So you have about 6 inches on each side and about 18 at the top. Its a bit windy up there too.
I have to brag a bit but my son won the kids cometion and I won the adults. They gave us each a nice medal. However, they did not give awards for 2nd and 3rd place, which kind of stinks.
If there is a tie they have the ones who tied shot 5 balls to break the tie.
A HINT TO THE ADULTS. If you can use a kids stick for the contest. The blades on the adult sticks are very worn and TOO flexible, so its hard to get a accuarate shot.
And don't shoot too hard, and don't panic if you miss the first couple. But on our cruise it took 6 out of 7 to win.
Good Luck!
