Shopping in St. Maarten

I am feeling the urge to treat myself to a little sparkly bauble while in St. Maarten. Since I will be on an excusion while in port that day I will not have the time I would love to dedicate to really shopping the shops themselves, selection or prices. Any tips from anyone?

I went on the Eastern Caribbean Cruise in April '08 and my mom found a really beautiful necklace at the first shop in port (before you even take the ferry over to the main island). We had looked in all the jewelry stores on the island and were disappointed that nothing stood out and then we found a beautiful necklace in the last shop. I don't really have any tips except that they are overpriced at first and you have to talk them down a little. And that jewelry should just pop so don't settle for a piece you don't love just because you don't have a lot of time to look. Happy shopping! princess:
