My wife and I will be in SoCal in late May (West Hollywood) and I'm looking for a nice restaurant (4+ star) where we can enjoy a nice dinner as close to the beach as possible and see the sun set. Any suggestions?

Don't know if these are actually 4-star, but in Malibu, you have Gladstone's and, I think, Moonshadows. Those are pretty close to the water. Nobu is down in Malibu (of course, that is very $$$), but don't know how close to the ocean it actually is.

I have heard of some folks going to Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica (a hotel) and eating at the hotel, so I imagine that is a very nice place to dine.

I like spending a day in Avalon (Catalina) and eating dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants at Sunset. Again, not 4-star places, but nice and good food.

I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be 4 star, just a nice place. thanks for the suggestions!

I think any of those would be great. And Santa Monica & Malibu would be the closest to West Hollywood. The Shutters restaurant is probably great, with a great view I would imagine. And people love going to Gladstones and Moonshadows in Malibu for those beach/ocean views. In Avalon (Catalina Island), if you are lucky enough, while you sit outside at one of the seaside restaurants, you can see a random flying fish fly by, especially at sunset or after dark!

I would recommend The Lobster in Santa Monica. Great views and delicious food!

Nobu in Malibu is nice, albeit $$$$

I would say Gladstone's for the Beach view.

I also would suggest http://www.yamashirorestaurant.com/ which has an amazing view over the whole valley. It's in Hollywood right above Hollywood Blvd.

I also had a great time at Gordan Ramsey's London in West Hollywood. It also offers a view above the city.

If you want a fun adventure before dinner and go to Gladstone's I totally suggest the Getty Musuem Villa. It is about a mile above Gladstone's and not only has an amazing antiquities and art, but the Villa itself is stunning! Based on a Roman villa it offers beautiful gardens to walk and a beautiful view of the ocean. The musuem is free but you have to make a reservation for parking to visit.
