Udgrading to AP question

Is it possible to upgrade a 5 or 7 day pass to an AP and still use the DVC discount?

Last time we went to WDW with our extended family and let them stay in a GV with us, they bought our park tickets. This year we want to get APs. We don't want to presume that they might buy our tickets again and tell them not to.

Well, I guess if the answer to my question is no, and they do buy us passes, then we can save them for another time, right?

If they buy you passes, yes, they can be upgraded to DVC discounted APs. The upgrade must take place within 14 days of the first use of the icket, and the AP start date will be backdated to that first use.
