View Full Version : OK guys, I am home....

Well, I am home.... A lot happy, and a little concerned. LOL

This guy was the surgeon, he said the CT says the aneurysm is 5.4cm, not 5.9cm and the guideline is 5.5cm for operation for someone of my "size" .... so it got about this (_) much to spare lol.

He wants me to get the WLS and then come back and see him, but he would not clear me for it, he says I have to see another cardio guy to get his clearance LOL.

So I have another appointment tomorrow morning lol. I don't know if the WLS guy will even touch me now, so I am in kinda a giant catch 22, surgeon won't fix the heart till I have WLS, he won't clear me for WLS, have to another guy to get clearance, and then the WLS guy might not even do it LOL

So, I will have to have open heart surgery at some point, and I will have to monitored on a regular basis, with echo's and ct's to make sure it doesn't grow too fast, and if it does get bigger then I will get cut no matter how fat I am lol.

So here we are, still in a holding pattern, but at least I got a while to be 'prepaired'.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE AND CONCERN!!!

Talk at yins later.

We're hanging on every word Johnny boy. Good luck wth the medical run-around, and let us know how we can ever help.

I'd say watch some TV and relax, but given the options on TV, that wouldn't be very enjoyable.

Praying for you Buddy! :worship:

Wow, John, that really is a catch 22.
Anyway, I'm glad you're home and I'm happy that it isn't as bad as they first led you to believe.
I think now would be a good time for you to kick back and relax as much as possible - you've been through quite a bit of stress lately. :)

Glad to hear it's not as bad as they thought. But, geez! What a run-around. Well, if the WLS Doc won't clear you, you can do weight watchers with Amanda, Ami and me. We'd love to have you join us! Heck, you might not even need the WLS... :woohoo:

John - Sitting in the "inbetween" is not a pleasant place to be. If either the 2nd cardiologist or the WLS nixes the WLSurgery, it's for a very good reason. They would only deny the WLS if it were too risky for you because of the heart condition. Try everything you can yourself to start losing the weight. I KNOW how difficult that is, because I'm no light-weight myself. BUT it can be done. I'm keeping you in my prayers that no matter what happens, it will be the right thing for you and your family.

Hey John - I hope the other cardiologist will sign off on the surgery and that the WLS surgeon will do it. I'll keep praying for you. But its a good thing that you were doing the testing for the surgery so that they could at least find this problem.

And no, you're not a SCHMO!

Ok, for all those keeping box scores, it's the bottom of the second inning and I am 1 and 1, lol.

Today's cardiologist was cool too, I started with an ekg (my first one of those in about 20 yrs) and said it was perfect, he says he is in between on the measurement of the aorta, says the echo could have been on an angle, and the ct could be a little small cuz of all of the pressors and nitro they gave me to get my bp and pulse down.... so hi ho hi ho, of to an TEE ( trans esouphegial echocardio gram for those of you keepping track ) I go.

I go in tomorrow morning for a TEE, and I don't know, maybe they can add up all the sizes and divide by 3 http://www.valvereplacement.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif

I feel like a freeking yo yo, you do you don't you do, maybe..... he says he is a little more concerned about the valve, than the other guy, because of my shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, (which has been more than the normal fat guy fatigue over the last couple months), poor color, cold hands and feet, and occasional dizziness.

So I let em shove the thing down my throat in the morning... (which is a lot easier than going in from the other end by the way) and see where we stand from there.. LOL

I will keep those of you still reading this soap opera up to date.

Thanks I love you guys!

Oh, dear God, John!!!

Gregory House & his team would have cracked you open, repaired the valve & the aneurysm, lipo-sucked the fat out, tightened up the loose skin, put in the lap-band, performed a vasectomy or a reversal if that was necessary, and sent you home....all within an hour!! Geesh!! Tell these guys you don't have any health insurance so they get down to the basics of the problem without putting you thru all this crap and thus padding their portfolio's.

This would be driving me nutz!!!

Hang in there, John! We're with you every step of the way.

OK, I'm home, I got a little hangover, headache, but the test was a peice of cake... still a little loopy, and need a nap but I am alive.

It said 5.4cm same as the CT so who knows what is next?? This doc said he would call with results and I have follow up appt in 6 weeks, 6 WEEKS!!! are you kidding me?

I will be calling a doc at a real hospital monday morning LOL.

will be back when my head isn't kiling me, matt's popcicles are taking a hit right now, feels good on my throat after they shoved that garden hose down it!!! they gavve me 100 of phentnol, and 10 of versaid, saaid that was more than double what most get.... but I was wide awake throught the whole thing, I never even fell asleep till I got home.

later thanks for your support, I will probably have to edit this when I sober up to see the mistakes LOL

It's kinda hard to turn off that perpetual motion picture in your head when you should be sleeping, John. Worrying will do that to you.

Look at it this way, if the Dr said 6 weeks, it's something that needs attending to, just not immediately. You are going to be all right, John. It's scary, I know, but you will be okay. Just try and stay away from researching your condition on the internet. That just serves to drive you crazy.

We've got you covered in prayer. Sit back, relax, and let us & God handle this one!

Hope you're feeling better today John. For future reference, the anesthesiologist told my son that it's better to keep that drink (assuming the sedatives they gave you were in a cheap plastic shot glass) in your mouth for a while, swirling it around to let it get absorbed there, faster and quicker to the brain and less wasted on the rest of the body. Told him it was a quick tip on how to save money on booze while in college.

He then turned to us and said he probably shouldn't have said that out loud to a 15 yo. :confused3 Gotta love a Doc with a sense of humor and a realistic outlook on life.

Glad to hear you are still with us ready to give it another day. Camping weather is here (a little cold, but here).
