DIS Digi-challenge #50
It’s so hard to believe that we are already up to challenge #50! The idea for this challenge actually came from my sister when I told her I needed an idea for this week’s theme. The inspiration is going to be SLEEPING BEAUTY since it is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. We are going to use the story as our inspiration.
Rules:
1. Must be Disney related
2. “Make it blue!” Flora and Merryweather have an ongoing debate which color Aurora’s dress should be, so use an element and RECOLOR IT either BLUE or PINK.
3. Every fairy tale has a villain so incorporate something BLACK to represent Maleficent
4. “I know you . . .” Briar Rose sings to her animal friends in the forest so include at least ONE ELEMENT FROM NATURE (leaf, flower, animal, etc).
5. Briar Rose is raised by the three good fairies, so REPEAT ONE ELEMENT THREE TIMES.
6. To represent the magic wands sprinkle your page with some GLITTER or SPARKLES.
7. The curse that Maleficent placed on Aurora was that she would prick her finger on a spindle on a spinning wheel, so include at least ONE CIRCLE.
8. The three good fairies gave Phillip the “Sword of Truth” to use to slay Maleficent so use something SILVER or GOLD.

Britt helped to arrange an AWESOME prize for this week!!!

Wow! So many parts of this challenge call to me. SB and I share a birth year, I just celebrated my 50th birthday by going on a trip with 17 high school students to Paris, my favorite Disney movie is Sleeping Beauty and my username is BriarRose! The trip was wonderful. We went to DLP while we were there and saw the fantastic SB castle. This will give me a chance to scrap some of those pics! Thanks!

Oh my, that must mean that I started digi-scrapping almost a year ago! My first ever digi-LO was for the first DIS challenge hosted by Britt in April of last year! How time flies!
What a great idea for a challenge, Melissa! I'll have to think about this one!

I'm pretty new to the digi scrapbooking game, and I have no clue how to recolor. Does anybody have a link to a good tutorial? (I use Photoshop 6). :teacher:
Yzerbear19
03-25-2009, 10:56 PM
Do you have Photoshop 6 or Elements 6?
I use Photoshop 7, so the instructions might be slightly for your version.
Select the layer you want to recolor.
Hit CONTROL and U together. This brings up "Hue/Saturation" box. You can also go to IMAGE --> ADJUSTMENTS --> HUE/SATURATION
Click COLORIZE on the bottom right.
Adjust the sliders until you get the color you want.
It also helps if you have the color you want your item to be as the foreground color.
Let me know if that helps.

Another way to recolor in Photoshop is to use layer styles. Go to Layer...Layer Styles...Color Overlay in the menu at the top. In the box that comes up, you will see a box with a color in it that you can click and choose a new color. The drop down menu will be set at Normal blend probably. Change that to Color and you will get an overlay of the chosen color so that the detail of the recolored item shows.

I took this one literally! My black element is Maleficent. My glittery element was re-colored. My silvery eyelets were used three times (actually four).

Journaling:
You love playing dress-up in your fancy princess clothes. When you are Aurora, Maleficent always shows up. However, when telling us your detailed story, you can never pronounce her name correctly. It always comes out as MUSS-A-FUSS-A-CENT.

What fantastic LOs so far! I finally finished mine. It's the second of a two-pager, one page that I did a few weeks ago. I wanted to add more photos, and this challenge was the perfect motivating force! Thanks, Melissa.
The recolored item is the pink frame - it used to be a nice dull brown.
The bling are the tiny blue glitter sprinkles behind the three silver stars.
The element from nature is the stars, one with a circle around it.
And there's black in the photo mats & bracket elements.
The first is the LO for the challenge:

Coming in under the wire here. These pictures are from Saratoga Springs when we were there for my son's performance in an a musical theare competition (they performed 101 Dalmatians!). We had never visited there and it's such a beautiful resort! The circular element is the wreath and the staple is my silver element. I almost forgot the black element and added those black swirly things after the fact. I picked the roses for the three items and recolored one blue. I chose roses since it tied in with the racing theme of the resort. I wanted it to have an old feel, too. I hope it all goes together. I haven't had time to study it much.

I'm not totally happy with the colors for this LO. I think it's because there are so many different colors in the pictures that really don't go together. Oh well....
Requirements:
Recolored the "splat" blue.

Vine for nature element.
3+ buttons.
Glitter paper used on mask.
Circular metal frame.
Silver staples.
