My girls (16 and 13) and I got home Friday from visiting my brother where he is stationed at Ramstein. He took several days off to take us around the sights. Wow, I really loved Germany! We saw Ramstein, Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl, Saarbrucken, Heidelberg, Trier, Mainz, and we drove through Luxembourg (at rush hour, no less. can't really recommend that.), and stopped in Metz, France for dinner. It was great!

I wish I'd learned more of the history of the area before we went. I know practically nothing other than WWI and WWII stuff. Anyway, here are a couple of my favorite pictures.

This is the Dom in Heidelberg, taken from the castle:

Welcome back! Wonderful pictures of terrific places. I lived in Wiesbaden for five years when I was in the Air Force, so all the places you named were just parts of the extended neighborhood. Thanks for bringing back so many happy memories for me.

Nice pictures! I love Germany too. Studied in Mainz one summer and traveled around.

It's on one of the places to go back to now that I've got a good camera. I think that's one of the hidden costs of a DSLR -- to go back and revisit all these places to get the shots you missed the first time around!:lmao:

I enjoyed the photos. #3 is my favorite, there's something special about the dusk setting.

Thanks! Here's the German phrase I used the most: Sprecken sie English?

Everyone was very friendly and patient with my lack of knowledge of their language. I really appreciated that.
