I have noticed that some of the RVs at the campground seem to always be there so I know that there are people who spend multiple months at Fort Wilderness. Are they getting any deals? We just booked 3 weeks in January but if we could get a deal we would love to make it the whole month. OR can you get any other deals with it? Like dining discounts or discounts on your annual passes? What am I missing??

There must be a lot of very wealthy people spending the months at Disney. We usually go a few times a year and we do not usually stay for more than 2 weeks but I realized this time that 3 weeks in January was about the same as 2 weeks in December. This year I want to be there to try running the half marathon. :)

I just wanted to say welcome to the Disboards!
Up until a few years ago, Fort Wilderness offered what they called "Settlers Rates" for long term campers during the winter months. These rates were much lower than the rack rates charged for the campsites. They stopped offering the reduced rates as the campground has become more popular, and they apparently are able to keep it full enough without having to offer those discounts.
From what I have seen, there are less and less people each year who spend long stretches at the Fort. One of the members here, Des1954, knows some of these folks, and has reported that a lot of them have shortened their stays at the Fort, and have begun to stay elsewhere.
This past winter season was a bit unique, in that various loops have been closed for renovations. I would not be surprised, if the economy continues to stagnate, to see some type of discount rates offered again for long term campers.

TCD, I was thinking the same thing. I would not be surprised if they brought back a limited number of Winter Settler discounts for the January/February timeframe in 2010.

This is my retirement goal. To winter at FW. I know DH is up for that!! Fortunately we have DVC points so I could probably wing 6 weeks at the Fort just on my points. :thumbsup2 Hmm, I may just have to go count that out. :rotfl:

Yeah, if I remember right, I think it was about 6 or 7 points to stay there per night? I should contact DVC to find out if that is still true.

You can go on the DVC website to get the most accurate points chart. We use DVC points all the time. It may not be the most economical use of the points but I can't be bothered renting them and dealing with someone else. :thumbsup2
