I was at DTD to check out the latest on PI and the rumors surrounding it when we decided to see what was new with that stupid baloon they are putting up. Well low and behold, they brought in the balloon and several giant helium tanks and were blowing it up last night. I took this picture from the bridge between WS and PI. It was nearly complete. When we got there we could only see half of mary poppins, so it came a long way in a relatively short period of time.

What's the deal with the balloon? I can't remember. I assume people will be able to ride in it....how much are they charging for that?

If I recall correctly (and I may not be haha!) it was something like 35$ a person for a 6-10 minute ride

It's free if you want to shimmy up and down the rope.

16 dollars for adults, 10 dollars for children, and each load takes "up to 30 guests" and it goes "up to 400 ft in the air"

it's amazing what you see when you're roaming DTD at 2am because you have no life and an obsession with PI rumors...

I think you posted a similar picture on FB, except it was sideways? Thank you for clearing it up...I was uber confused.

They have one at these at Disneyland Paris, was pretty empty when we thought about doing it.

Might get a nice view though!

Does anyone know when this will be open? I would love to go up in it. I love heights.

I was told by a manager it will require at least 2 weeks of testing and the opening date is TBD, but the Sentinel is reporting a grand opening of April 1

Maybe they should wait until the 2nd! April Fools Day seems kinda :scared1: for a opening for that lol

You took a great picture. I would have loved to be there at night when they were doing that. I have been visiting the site for a while now and I missed the night time activity.

I have pictures and info http://www.disunplugged.com/2009/03/25/characters-in-flight-balloon-ride-at-downtown-disney/

yeah it was complete luck that we were there that night. We went to eat at perkins and then decided to wander down there to look in 8-trax and see if there was any movement and all of a sudden we notice this thing getting blown up. That picture was lucky because they had extra work lights shining on the baloon which illuminated it even more.
