Sorry if this is a repeat thread---searched through Rumors & couldn't find it. Any news on when the refurbishment will be finished? CM told me on Sat. that it was indefinite! We'll be there in Sept & I CANNOT imagine MK w/out SM!!!! :sad2:
Does anyone have any clue of what the other rides will be like w/ no SM? I bet the lines will be ATROCIOUS!!!!! :scared1: TIA!

Space Mountain is tentatively scheduled to re-open on Nov. 22nd. But Disney is being slightly coy about publicizing the date. The rumor is that the refurb may be extended a bit longer. We'll just have to wait and see. :)

Yeah, you won't have it in September. They're trying to get it open for the Thanksgiving / Christmas holiday. (Hopefully by Dec 19th for my Birthday trip!)

Dang it! :headache: That's so sad! But, what about Thunder & Splash Mountains & all the other rides? Are the lines ridiculous or what? It seems the lack of one of THE most popular rides at MK would mess the whole system up?.?.

Last time I was there they said the Primeval Whirl was still two weeks away from reopening, but they were opening it up for 2 hour intervals during the day. Don't give up hope yet!:flower3:

At least this rehab isn't as long as the one the Disneyland Space Mountain went through. It was down from 2003-2005. From what I hear, they're not replacing all of the track which was the case at Disneyland. I think the WDW is getting a new soundtrack so that is pretty awesome.

Nice joke.
But seriously, there was an article months ago via CNN, where they quoted a Disney spokesperson as saying SM would receive a new track, but new as in age not layout. The ride will remain the same and so will the ride vehicles. There will be new projections on the ceiling of the dome, as well as items suspended amid the track itself (i.e. RnR), and that both the entrance and exit queues will receive new dioramas and decor. I believe the waiting queue, prior to getting into the vehicles, will also be covered.
In any event, it will not be turned into the SM in DL. :)

It's not scheduled to close for rehab until April 19. :)

OH! I just assumed it was already closed. Then it probably FOR SURE won't be open when we're there. :sad1:

I'm visiting in July & I'm super upset that SM is going to be closed for refurbishment. :sad1: I love riding that thing! However, after it's finished, it definatly gives me reason to visit again!

That is a major disappointment. DL Space Moutain is quite simply - FABULOUS. It's so much better than the last time I rode Space Mountain at WDW.
Well, improvements are improvements and it's a good thing they are taking care of the ride. It WILL be better!!! Yea!

As bummed out as I will be that SM is out for a few months? The more exciting it is to ride when it returns. The ride is out for so long that you almost forget about it. Then after all the painting and fixing and improving they do, viola!! You have a 'new ride' to re-discovery.
Something as simple as the Dinosaur change back in 2001 or as complex as the Stitch Great Escape in 2004.
I find it exciting.....

I'm bummed to hear that it's closed during the time I'll be visiting in June. I agree with you, AllisonG, I can't wait to ride the new and improved SM, I just don't know when that will be lol.

I'm still concerned about the MK crowds with SM being shut down. Does anyone have any experience with a closing like this? I'm scared that TM, Splash Mtn, PoC & other rides will have HUUUuuuuuge lines. :scared:

I think you will be ok. You are going in September...which is usually a slower time period. Just use your Fastpasses for Splash, TM, etc and you should be fine.

With the economy the way it is, it seems EVERYONE is going in Sept to benefit from the FD!
