Upgrade price

Am I wrong in thinking that if there is a 200.00 price difference between each category room on a 7 day cruise now (almost a year away), then there will still be that same amount (200.00) difference right before the cruise begins? I have booked a cheaper room and am interested in possibly upgrading later. Even though the price for the cruise itself will go up, the price to upgrade to a better category room should stay the same, right?

Well, if you've booked at one early booking savings tier and later want to upgrade and the sailing is in ANOTHER early booking savings tier, the price difference could be MUCH more than $200. You would pay whatever price was in effect for the cabin category at the time you made any changes, so it's best to decide on what category you want from the beginning. :)

not always worth it. i have checked on doing this more than once, and it sometimes runs as much as what i had planned to spend on shore excursions, and etc.

i think it all depends on the time of year and the type of upgrade, and if the ship is full or not.

And rooms are not always available to upgrade! I agree with Michelle, if you really want a particular category, BOOK IT! We sailed in January, usually a slower time, but DCL doesn't really have "slower" times!

I think what the others are trying to say is -
Yes, there will still be a $200 price difference between the categories. But it will be in a different 'early booking tier' than what it is now.

For example, I was checking for myself in February of 2002 and I made notes on a 7 day cruise on July 5th, 2003 for 2 adults:
cat 10 - 2847
cat 9 - 3047
cat 8 - 3247
cat 7 - 3607
cat 6 - 3807
cat 5 - 4007

If I wait until 70 days before the cruise, the prices will still probably be $200 apart, except it is more likely to be starting at a higher level, like 3247 for a cat 10, and more like 4600 for a cat 6. And the difference would be because more of the Early Booking Savings have been depleted.

So the difference from the 'now' price from a cat 10 to a cat 6 would be $960. The difference from the now price of a cat 10 and the projected price of a cat 6 would be more like $1750.

I think that's what we're trying to warn you to consider.

I just found more notes that I had made about cruising this summer.
I was looking for a 7 day cruise on July 13, 2002, 2 adults, Category 6.
The first time I checked was 9/9/01 and it was $3922.
The second time I checked was on 2/18/02 and it was $4022
The third time I checked was on 5/9/02 and it was $4534
And when I checked just now, the ONLY category that was available was a category 11 at $3420.

That illustrates what I was saying even better.
