Okay, so I checked the 2010 meets thread, and it seems as if no one has started a thread for this cruise yet. Guess I'll step up to the podium and get this party started! :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::cheer2:

If you're going on the February 27 - March 6, 2010 Eastern Caribbean on the Magic, say aye!

It will be me, DSis, and DNiece. The cruise ends on March 6, which is the day before my 30th birthday! Hopefully we have a good group of DISers going along to make this a celebration for all of us! :grouphug:

Hey, we had to cancel, so we won't be along. :( This is a big bummer, but it's a financial necessity next year. Someone else is going to have to take over being this meet's leader! Have a great cruise - here's to 2011!

I just booked this cruise!
We were originally booked (and VERY excited for) the eastern transatlantic crossing, BUT my daughter was just accepted into a performing arts highschool, and they will really frown on her taking 2.5 weeks off in April. School is more important, and this cruise lands on her spring break. So I switched over to this one.
My daughter will be almost 14 and going into the stack for this cruise. Just the 2 of us, this will be our 2nd Disney cruise.
I hope we get many more on here and can do a great FE exchange!

Greetings from Northern California!

My family (wife and I and two daughters, ages 5 and 7) recently booked this cuise along with another family and we are soooo excited to go! we are looking to maximize our trip aboard the magic, as well as make some new cuise line friends.

Our friends, have two sons, who are also ages 5 and 7, we will be spending a week at WDW prior to our sailing...Staying at the Animal Kingdom with the Savanna view!

The eight of us are so excited,

Hope to see you all there!

I love doing the fish extenders. I am happy to organize it if anyone wants, I organized it on the last cruise. We don't have many people here yet, but once it gets closer???
On our last cruise we all met briefly at 3pm right before the lifeboat drill in the prom. lounge, and it was a good way to quickly get to know a few faces so we could say 'hi' during the cruise.
I am down to only owing $500 on the cruise now - paying bits and pieces here and there...
Its getting closer, but still soooooooo far away!

Hi all! We are booked for this cruise as well. Our party consists of Myself, DH, DD 12, DD 9, and my parents. It will be the 4th weeklong Disney cruise for all of us. Our last trip had a great group of disboarders, and we enjoyed many activities with the group throughout the week. We still keep in touch with many of them, and I am actively trying to convince them to join us.

Has anyone started to put together a master list of fellow travelers yet?

princess:Hey all,

I thought I would check in as we will be submitting our passport applications to our local post office this week. We are getting the kids the passport cards, and a full passport for me. The wife has a valid passport already.

Just wanted to say hi to all of the DIS'ers who are attending this cruise. Would love to be a part of a meet and greet aboard ship to meet some families with kids near the same age as ours..

Me (Andy) 36 (DH) :surfweb:
Becca 36 - (DM) princess:
Sam -7 (DD) :cheer2:
Katie -5 (DD)

Sam and Katie will both be 6 and 8 at the time of cruise. Our kids are very outgoing and love to meet new friends.

We are still pumped to go as this will be our first cruise ever! Both Becca and I have never been on a cruise either, except I was in the Navy for four years aboard an aircraft carrier, but I dont think It will be the same. Hey, at least I dont have to work 12 hour shifts and eat lousy food while I am aboard.

Just like to say "hey" to all the new persons joining our cruise. Not many of us, but we are gaining speed.
We do not have a "leader" yet, so if anyone wants to step up and do some organizing, please do. That sorta stuff is not my forte.
Lollipops Mom has offered to organize the Fish Extender Exchange, so I beleive that is covered. Anyone want to organize a DIS group "hug" (meet and greet) for when we get on the ship? Anyone?
For any of the new to cruising persons out there. Just ask away. There are alot of expereinced cruisers on this thread and on the DIS boards in general, the only dumb question is the question not asked.
7 months people......better start packing!!!!

** WE HAD TO CHANGE DATES AND I CAN NO LONGER ORGANIZE THIS -SO SORRY **

Ok....
I am happy to be the FE organizer.
I will start a list on this post that I can update, so if you want to be in the FE, please pm me how many adults/kids you have!

1.
2.bigturkey12 (1 adult, 1 teen boy)
3.SamKatFam (2 adults, 2 kids (girls))
4.seashell724 (2 adults)

Once we get closer and we see how many there are, we can make more 'rules' and things.

When I have some more time, I can post more about the FE. Right now I have to run out the door in a few mins. Basically its just a token fun something. I can post a list of some of the things we got and stuff like that.

It is just myself and my daughter, who will be almost 14 when we go! I am going to pm you and hopefully your son and my daughter can chat beforehand on facebook or something and get to know one another!

Well looks like we won't be on this cruise after all....my daughter is starting a fine arts high school next week and her spring break is March 6-13 and I figured 'what could they be doing at school the week before spring break? I will book the cruise for Feb 27th and give her a 2 week break....'

Well today I got a prelim calendar sent to me, and it turns out there is a TON of stuff going on that week, including her dance exams....EEK!
So I had to change it to the March 6th cruise, which I am not overly happy about because we did the western last year and really wanted to do the eastern......but I don't mind too much - we can just go do things we missed out on last time, and in Cozumel it was raining last time, so we didn't get to see much!
So you will have to re-delegate the fish extender person - so sorry guys!

We are a family of four- me (34), DH (34), DD (3) and DS (9 months) from Rhode Island. Can't wait as this is our first Disney cruise, though this will be my DD 3rd cruise (first 2 on Royal Caribbean at 8 months, and 15 months) but it will be DS first! Anyone know how the weather will be? We are going to stay 2 nights before at the pop century so we can spend a day at the Magic Kingdom. Can't wait! Karen

Yes, they are our BFF's!! :dance3:

Looks like our party just got bigger, DW's mother and father are also coming! It will be their first DCL also, I'll have to forward them this site and our posts, so they can read along and perhaps participate in the FE..

I'm starting to think about excursions, what are people doing in St. Maarten and St. Thomas?

As of now, I'm thinking about a snorkel and sail, since I grew up Sailing out here in California...Any excusions to avoid?

Oh, btw, DW and I will celebrating our fifteenth wedding anniversary aboard..

Since our flights are booked, cruise is in the process of being paid for, I'm trying to figure out what else I can do research on to be better prepared..

We also have to start looking for a name tag for our cruise....any ideas?
Some people make t-shirts or signs or other stuff and use the cruise name. In the past I have made up logo's and magnets with the cruise names. Austin77 has even been on a cruise that bought those rubber braclets with the cruise name on it........

Anyone have any suggestions??????:thumbsup2

If anyone is interested here is the link to our video from our last cruise. The large group photos were taken at our disboard cruise meets.

The video is about 18 minutes long, so depending on your connection speed it may take a moment to download.

http://gallery.mac.com/czachorski#100099

Our door signs were made for us by a fellow disboarder, and for name-tags we all used the green mickey head paint chips from home depot.

As far as excursions go my husband and father are probably going to do the regatta race in St. Marteen (they have done this one before, and enjoyed it) and DH and DD(9) will be doing a snorkeling excursion in St. Thomas. I think Sea turtles, but I'm not sure. DH likes to book all excursions thru Disney, because he just can't relax thinking that the ship might leave without him if he gets back late from a non Disney excursion.

Anyway, enjoy the video, let me know what you think!

My girls wil be 12 and 9 when we cruise. They are always looking for buddies to hang out with. My 9 yo would probably like to email with your 8 yo, if you let her do that.

I have never done FE before, so I'm not a lot of help with the planning. We have done gift bags before, but I'm up for participating in FE's if someone else is interested in organizing it...

We are flying into Orlando on the 23rd, staying at AKL for four nights, three days in the parks. There is now ten of us coming from Northern California.

Since we are first timers, i would prefer someone else to run the FE..Since I have a minute idea of how it works...Also, no one has talked about a DIS meet and greet aboard..I am sure it will happen, from what I read, looks like most people have it on the first afternoon aboard.

Our plans as of now is to go swimming first thing after we board....

Feiste, I'll mention your idea to Sam and let ya know, I already know what the answer is though, ill pm you after we talk..

Hello! Yes! More action on the thread.
We are also coming down the day (early evening) before and then going to port the next day. We are leaving RIGHT after the cruise, like, we'll be off the ship when the doors open b/c we can't afford more time away. I am thankful for what we do get though. :thumbsup2
I am really excited since we've never cruised before and I also am dreaming of the virgin islands as well.

We arrive on the 23rd and are at WDW on the 24th and 25th. We have a condo rented as we have a gaggle of people with us.
We are driving straight from Ontario, Canada. Should be about a 23 - 24 hour drive, so we are taking the 23rd to rest and, of course, shop.:thumbsup2
After we get off the ship, we usually head to Downtown Disney, but I dont think we will this time. We have to get back, so, we will be heading straight back, another 23 - 24 hour drive....but it is all worth it when you visit the Mouse, especially when it is on his boat!!!!

Since the cruise date is getting closer I thought I would check this board. Wow, quite a bit of activity.

My wife and I have been planning this cruise for over a year now. We started so early we had to book a place holder cruise for December and then switch it. We booked on our last cruise to get the 10% discount.

Our schedule is:

Thursday, My wife completes the Massachusetts Bar Exam
Friday, Get on a plane to Disney World, staying in Pop Century
Saturday to Saturday, the Cruise :dance3:
Saturday to Thursday, Visit WDW staying at Saratoga Springs
Friday, Pick up our son at college for spring break.

A pretty tight schedule.

So for statistics purposes, this is our 4th disney cruise. It will be myself (Rand), my wife (Michele) and her sister (Vieva). Vieva may bring someone else.

A side note. Since I setup the reservations for planes, DVC and the cruise on my own I had to buy my own trip insurance. If you did not do everything through Disney Cruise Lines you should make sure your trip insurance will get you to the ship if there are any weather delays. If you made your own plane reservations, the DCL trip insurance will not do this.

We are driving down as well. From Michigan it will take us about 18 hours. Staying in Orlando Friday night. I am a little obsessed about arriving to the port early It drives my family crazy, but they indulge me :thumbsup2

We will head straight back to Michigan from the port the following Saturday.

This will be our 4th 7th day cruise as well. We did do one three day, but it was so fast it hardly counts! This will actually be our third Eastern. I prefer it for the extra day at sea, and I didn't really care for Key West that much. What other Dis cruises have you been on?

Yay! I'm so excited there is only 16 Friday's until our cruise!

We are going to be pirates this year for Halloween in order to get double use of the costumes when we use them on the cruise!

I have everything all planned and have bought all the stuff. We went to Value Village last night and got my husband a shirt and shorts and then to a fabric store to buy fabric to make a waist sash for him and a head band thing for me. I bought WAY too much fabric though. It was near closing and no one was helping me decide what we really needed.

I did see men's pirate costumes for $17 at Value if any Canadians area thinking of going there. We just didn't want "full out" pirate costumes. We will still look like pirates but more casual.

Does anyone else have their pirate night outfits, semi formal and formal already planned and if so tell us about all your outfits!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

The last time I talked with DCL about my reservation I got two dates. I am a silver castaway club member.

November 29th (90 days) is when castaway club members can book spa and excursions (assuming you are paid in full).

December 14th (75 days) is when you have to pay the balance for your cruise, and non-castaway club members can book spa and excursions.

As for booking when using a TA, I cannot tell you anything useful. A while ago there was a thread from someone that used a TA, and the TA held the final payment instead of forwarding it to DCL. This prevented the poster from booking anything until the TA actually sent the payment (which they refused to do). They were very upset about it.

Hope you get on ErieCruiser. :)

Okay, I am going to make sure I pay 2 weeks prior to my 75 days. Then I am going to triple-check to make sure my payments have gone through. (From my ta.)

Then, on midnight eastern time (Dec. 13) I can log onto DCL website and book my excursion!

Stateroom2: Larry (53), Debbie (49), Greg (25), Bethany (19)

We did the Dolphin Encounter last summer in Nassau with our 3 Grandaughters and we all loved being in the water with the dolphins. It was not a long time, as the whole group gets a turn, but when others are doing it you're sitting on the dock with your feet in the water.

We LOVE DVC ! We are empty nesters and have 3 sons & dau-in-laws and soon to be 8 Grandchildren. They all live out-of-town :sad2: But we get together often at WDW or Disney Magic and DVC's Hilton Head .

Checking back in and our group is getting bigger and bigger
this is going to be so much fun. Were flying in the day before and staying at pop century night before and night after. Going to do one day at magic kingdom on sat and then flying home on sunday.
As this is not only our first disney cruise but our first cruise ever any tips would be so appreciated. Watch the boards almost daily for info. Welcome to all the new cruisers.

With the airlines charging for bags, we all have watch what we pack. This is what I'm packing :

Formal- Husband rents a tux through DCL incl shoes
I wear the same thing both nights, black slacks, black top then one of
the nights I wear a turq beaded jacket & the other night a black & khaki shawl. We usually go to Palo's one of those nts to eliminate dressing up a 3rd night.

Informal- wear the nicest of my "casual" clothes

Pirate - wear clothes that can be worn other day or night,ie, black capris, white tee, tennis shoes. BTW, DCL says you can wear shorts in the dining room on Pirate Night. Then add accesories,ie, fake beads & hoop earrings,
scarves, eye patches, pirate hats or bandanas. DCL used to give each passenger a bandana in the dn rm.

Tropical Character Breakfast - tropical shirts, shorts, DCL gives out leis

Kids - esp girls like to bring their princess dresses, etc

Shoes - Being in the Caribbean I just bring sandals, water shoes ( I like to have them at Castaway Cay ) and I wear my tennis shoes on the plane
shoes weigh alot and take up alot of room

Leave beach towels at home also robes...DCL provides them and they are very bulky

Laundry - DCL does have self-service laundry, and I understand you now use your KTTW card to pay. But on sea days it gets very hot and crowded in there, and tempers have been known to fly ??? For myself, if I need laundry done, I give it to our cabin attendant. He'll give you a bag and form to fill out. The cost is very reasonable. NO WAY am I going to do laundry on my vacation ! But, if you must use the self-service, go very early in the AM

FE goodies - You can do a search for FE ideas on these boards. I usually make something for each family, then throw in some cheap things for the kids. The last time I did the FE we had 34 families. I put everything in a small suitcase and checked it. Then coming home I put my FE gifts and other souvenirs in that same bag

Maybe everyone on this thread can add their own packing ideas, or things NOT to bring and things not to forget:

Bring : over-the-door shoe holder to put in the cabin to hold misc things
alarm clock
room freshner for BA :rolleyes1
sm soft sided cooler, cabin attendant will keep it filled with ice. I can
never have enough ice
post it notes to leave notes for cabin attendant and for your family
plenty of sunscreen ( old sunscreen looses its effect )

Hope some of this helps !

Thanks for all these tips Gina! It is also our first cruise ever.

We are starting the car, plane and then cruise! We are driving 8 hours away to catch a flight and then getting to the cruise! 8 hours seems like a lot but when you save so much money on the flight it is worth it.

I don't know about the FE stuff b/c we have no official organizer of FE. I have seem little stuff I *want* to buy but don't want to get it in case we don't give it away. Some stuff is just so cute out there though.

I have been obsessed with these boards and have copied pages and pages of tips. I am glad to have some experienced cruisers on here to help us out for our cruise!

I also have so many dilemma's with packing. I had a thread on it on the boards a while back and lots of people have problems with packing.

I am going to make sure to bring: ear plugs, highlighter, more than 1 bathing suit, all of our travel documents in case something gets misplaced!

Joanne, happy to help !

Your clothes sound fine. On formal nt you'll see all kinds of dress. A few will wear gowns & tux. Most will wear dressy pants and top and men coat & tie.

Sonny's tours are well known and many people book his tours. We haven't toured w/ him but have taken private tours many times. As long as you book with a repudible company you'll be fine. And you'll enjoy it more since you're not on a bus with 100 others ! But , not to scare you, I must remind you that if your tour gets back late, the ship will not wait. Just be sure that Sonny gets you back way before the back onboard time !

After your balance has been paid, go on the DCL web site. Click on Already Booked* enter your res # and your DOB. Go to My Cruise Plans and from there you can book shore exc, Palo res ( you HAVE to book the Palo Brunch, IMHO it's the best meal on the ship ! ) , Spa appts, Register your son for the Teen Club

No med form needed
No I'm not worried about the virus. They will ask you when you check in at the port if you've had any flu symptoms. Best to say NO if they are mild or passing symptoms. Most cruise lines will confine you to your cabin if symptoms are present. If I have misstated this please ( anyone ) correct me.

Also, if there are birthdays or other celebrations, you can order gifts from DCL. BUT alot of people order from Shirley. I can get you her website if you'd like. She does all kind of theme baskets and delivers them to the ship

Gina thanks so much
i have heard so much about the palo brunch however im a single mom so i dont feel comfortable going alone. {josh is only 14 so he cant go to palo as it is adults only correct me if im wrong}
he did say he wanted to go to the teen club once but he said this is our family trip and we are doing everything together. So sweet.
Now i dont know what to do about sunny liston tour. The last stop is at the beach where you can stay for 15 minutes to take some pictures and then get back on the bus and finish tour ending up at the ship around 2:30pm. Do you know what time you have to be back on board. I am nervous of missing the ship but ive heard such tremendous reviews of his tour that i would be sad to miss it also. P.s are you folks at the first or second seating for dinner . I do believe we are second. Joanne and josh

$15/pp for Champagne Brunch at Palo's , same price for dinner

You may book the dinner any night, but the Brunch is only on Sea Days.

Palo also has a High Tea, but I've never been to it. Anyone gone to it ?:grouphug:

Joanne, We are scheduled to leave St Thomas at 4:30, so we probably will need to be back on board by 3:30. I would go with Sonny's tour, if it were me. He has a very good reputation, he has done this 100's of times, and he knows that getting you back onboard ontime is crucial to his success of his business. So have fun and don't worry !

Bruce,Cindy and I would love for you and Josh to join us at our dinner table for 2nd Seating ! Bruce and I are 60 and Cindy is 54. Cindy is mildly mentally retarded. She is very sociable and alot of fun. We are all "Disney Nuts". In fact we just got back from WDW for Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. We all love to cruise, and it would be fun to have you at our table. I raised 3 sons and have 3 Grandson + another Grandson due in Jan ! Guess you'd say I'm partial to BOYS ! So I would enjoy Josh's company.

Also, we'd be happy to have you join us at the Palo Brunch ! You shouldn't miss it ! :grouphug:

that is so sweet of you to invite us to join you .we would love to.Not sure how we would arrange this with disney to be seated at the same table?? maybe you folks already know that and could help with this detail also. i will certainly think about the palo brunch. we have told each other we are doing everything together. we want all our memories and pictures of this trip to be as a family. however josh did say he would like to go to the teen club once and i encourgaged him to do that and i would do something else. maybe we could coorinate that with the palo brunch. i did notice that you said the brunch is only on sea days. i will talk this over with josh and get back to you. again not sure how this is coordinated with disney palo reservations. should i be booking with sunny liston now. it sounds like he is very popular among cruisers and i dont want to miss out . is this too early. thanks for all the time you have spent answering my questions. joanne and josh

Does this mean we get back to the ship at 2:30 or 4:30 ? It's confusing. This is from Sonny's website :

"For those who are swimming you will get at least 2 hours at the beach where you can Swim, Snorkel, Jet Ski, Parasail or whatever your heart impels you to do. Your purchases can be secured safely in the vehicle while you swim. Those who do not want to stay at the beach to swim or snorkel will be taken back to the ship between 2:00 pm and 2:30pm. On our way back to the ship we will travel around by the Red Hook Ferry Dock area, where the ferry to St. John leaves from. You will see two of our marinas and also a chance to see how some of our locals live. Your tour ends back at the ship on time between 4:00pm and 4:30 pm."

i have already sent an email to sunny in the past to ask some questions
in his reply it says you have a choice of staying at the beach for 2 hrs or 15 minutes. i will send him another email and ask him directly if we chose to only stay 15 minutes at the beach to take some pictures what time would we arrive at the ship. i do believe he goes back to the beach a second time to pick up the swimmers later. i will explain we have to be back by 3:30pm and that we are on the disney magic where ever it may dock. he is very good at replying promptly. ill know by tomorrow. ill send my question tonight and ill be back to you im sure tomorrow. have a nice evening joanne and josh

I suppose I'll need the names and cabin #'s of those participating. How many adults and how many children (ages).
In the past the participants were assigned a day to pass out their FE's. So not everyone was passing them out on the same day.
If you have a preference what day you want let me know. Some may have Pirate things so they'll need to be distributed b4 Wed.

Scrappy Cruiser!
That is awesome that you would do the FE! It is just my husband and I and we are in our late twenties. Eeks, I just had my birthday and it sounds so weird to say that!
I have a question for scrappycruiser, for an FE can we use something else instead of an official FE? I am thinking of a recyclable bag but that may look to ugly for our tastes.

I would just like to add in a word that I have also read about Sonny Liston tours on another cruise website and he seems reputable, in case that eases anyones mind.

Hurray for going to the U.S. to get cheaper flights! We are saving over $1000 by doing this! I don't think we'd be able to afford it if we didn't go to the states first.

I got a package from DCL in the mail the other day about our cruise, just some reading material. That was pretty exciting since I wasn't expecting anything!

Did I read earlier that someone is staying at Hyatt the night before? This is what we are dong and are throughly confused about if we take our own luggage to the DCL bus and where to get to the bus and what time. Anyone know about this?

ErieCruiser08
10-18-2009, 12:11 AM
scrapycruiser--Thank you so much for volunteering to do the f/e exchange! It will make everyone's cruise much more memorable!

Seashell--My husband and I are both in our late 20s as well--eek! I know, its weird to say 'late 20's'. We will both be 28 on the cruise. We are traveling with my parents and bro and sis.
This is our 2nd DCL cruise on the Magic and we participated in the f/e exchange last time, too! It was a blast! We saw all sorts of fish extenders. You could use the recyclable bag but there are alot of better options out there if you are interested. We bought ours on eBay for about $30 and its great! If you search the boards, you will see all kinds of pics people have posted of their extenders. Other people have just bought an over the door shoe organizer and put Disney stickers on it to decorate it. You can really do whatever you want--just have fun with it!

Another thing: Last time we stayed at the Hyatt at the airport and DCL picked up our luggage from our room. We didnt have to take it onto the bus. Very nice and easy!
This time, our TA suggested we stay at a Disney resort (its actually cheaper than the Hyatt if you stay at a value resort). SO, we will be arriving 2 days early and staying at one of the value resorts at WDW.

seashell.... anything is fine to use for a FE. But as Amy suggested, do a search

for Fish Extenders and you can get some ideas.

Hyatt...we are staying at the Hyatt and will be using DCL transportation
Just let the Hyatt know when you check -in that you're using DCL
transportation and they'll tell you where to meet the bus and what to do w/ your luggage. The last I heard, you just leave your luggage in your room and someone will pick them up. Just be sure the Disney luggage tags are on them. I believe you will also be able to check in for the cruise at the Hyatt. So when you get to the port you're ready to board. We did this in Barcelona prior to going on the DCL Med '07 cruise. They gave us our KTTW card, too.

I will confirm this with DCL and get back with you

Erie....Amy,
We have used Tiffiney Town Car for years and they've always been on time and very professional. Some people use Happy Limo, but I never have.

Everyone that is doing the Fish Extender, let me know :

1. #adults & #kids
2. cabin #
3.If you have a preference of what day to pass out your "goodies"

Thanks,

Hello!
We are in the traveling party with ErieCruiser08 and Cowgirl0524! My name is Debbie. This is our first cruise ever! We are so excited!

We would LOVE to join in the fun with the fish extender gift exchanges! My family just picked out all the material to make our f/e. Can't wait to start it and start getting ideas of gifts to pass out.

I will have one of us post our cabin numbers asap.
(For the master roll call, you could just put us next to Cowgirl0524--we are sharing a cabin with her).

Can't wait to learn all I can on these boards and meet everyone in just 4 months!

This will be fun Gina!
Can I ask, how do people already know what cabins they will be in?

Thanks for the info eriecruiser! Are there multiple times that DCL picks up at Hyatt or is it just a one time that we have to be waiting?

Seashell...the DCL bus will run several times because it not only takes those staying at the Hyatt but those coming in on flights that day.

Some passengers were given cabin assignments when they booked and some were booked with a guarantee status. If the later is the case,it could be a few weeks prior to sailing when you find out.Maybe someone that has experienced this type booking can explain better than I.:grouphug:

Welcome to the group, Lornak! We are absolutely accepting new group members! So glad you joined us! The f/e exchange is so much fun. It makes getting ready for the trip so much more exciting! In my opinion, half the fun of any vacation is the anticipation and excitement thinking and planning for it!

On our last DCL cruise, there were several people with guarantee staterooms or people who got upgraded to a different cabin at the terminal. To make sure everyone knew about any changes in cabin #'s, we arranged a DIS meet and greet for embarkation day. Easy enough--if everyone shows up if they can. Just in case, we arranged for a 2nd meet and greet the next day just to make sure everyone is up to date.

Amy... we should plan a get together on Embarkation Day. What about 3pm?
Where ? We'll have a short time before the drill to put faces with names and exchange any cabin # changes and /or upgrades :rotfl2:

I liked your idea about the map of the ship to help find the cabins for the FE. Problem...I have no sense of directions, even tho I've been on the Magic 6 times. Maybe I could get my husband to do that :rolleyes1

And we should have a cut off, say 2 weeks before we cruise. To give everyone time to do their shopping or time to make their gifts. What does everyone think ???:confused3

Well I guess that gives me 4 weeks to make Cindy a pirate outfit, make 2 FEs, make some of the FE gifts, oh and make signs for our 2 doors, plus watch the boards. Guess that doesn't leave time for cooking and cleaning !!:rotfl2: Oh, well.:grouphug:

3pm sounds good for a meet. Im pretty sure thats what time we did last time on our cruise too. I think we met in the Promenade Lounge, not sure though. Scrapycruiser, is that a good place to meet or do you know of someplace better? You have a better knowledge of where everything is than I do:-)

I think 2 weeks as a cut off is good. What does everyone else think?

Just as a suggestion, we bought our f/e on ebay for about $30, its really cute too! I'm not talented enough to have sewn one myself, lol. If you dont have time you could always have someone else make one for you. We got a customized f/e from a lady of ebay.

I wanted to mention this:
On our last cruise--SOMEONE STOLE OUR FISH EXTENDER!!!!
It was filled with goodies and they also took about 5 of our door magnets. We were so upset. We reported it to guest services and they were very helpful. They took a full description of our fish extender and they got security, stateroom hosts, and guest services manager involved and they got it back for us! How's that for Disney going above and beyond!

They said they had a suspicion of who may have stole it, as other things were stolen as well that cruise in other areas of the ship. So, apparently security approached this person and she gave it back. She did not give back whatever was inside the pockets or the magnets though. We were very grateful to get back that fish extender--we were very surprised that we got it back at all.
We later found out by someone else on the DISboards that the person who stole it was a 23 year old woman. Whatever the case may be, we were very impressed that Disney went through all the trouble to get it back for us! Next time, we will definitely zip tie it to the fish!

We never thought it would be necessary to secure our f/e, esp being on a Disney cruise. But, I am going to zip tie it to the fish and I highly suggest others do too.

Thanks for the info on staterooms and on DCL busses.

I am for sure going to Ziptie our FE. As for gifts being stolen from it...maybe this is a bad idea but we should say what time of day we will deliver our gifts. That way people can pop back in to collect them and put them in the room. For example, if I am away from my room all day and only go back at night and someone delivered in the morning then it would give people lots of time to take away the goodies! I also don't want all my hard work for people in our cruise to go to waste because someone decided to help themselves aka steal it. I don't know if that's ever been done before but I am a bit nervous of someone stealing gifts!

I know this sounds like I'm from planet Mars, BUT where do you buy zip ties ? I know what they are, but haven't seen them in the stores.

Also, I've never bought anything on ebay. How would I go about finding a FE on ebay. Would they know what that is ?

Promenade Lounge is perfect !! 3pm it is. I'll get the word out.

Someone suggested cutting off the FE at 3 weeks, since there will be some people going to WDW before the cruise.

Another suggestion I got was to plan on being at the port early & let everyone know where I'll be, in case anyone has a cabin change at the last minute. Then I can update the lists for everyone and give them a copy at the 3 pm mtg.:rolleyes1

Thanks for the welcome to the group! Olivia and I are very excited!!

I work as a Disney Travel Specialist so I coordinate two group Disney cruises each year. For this cruise I am "bringing" 11 families and will help them coordinate all the details. For each cruise I bring along one of my children as a special perk! It's a wonderful way to travel. But we don't really hang out with any of these families or do anything like the FE gifts so we are looking forward to being a part of this group!

We live in northern Minnesota---about 2 hours north of the Twin Cities in a very little town called Motley (unfortunately!).

We will be in stateroom 5013 and are on the early dinner rotation. We are flying in the night before the cruise and staying at Pop Century resort. We haven't decided if we will fly home immediately after the cruise or stay another day at Disney. I have three other children that I will be leaving at home so it can be hard to add any more days to the trip!

Thanks again for including us!!!! :goodvibes

Zipties! I am sure we will bring a few with us since we have them laying around anyway. Here's some places you can find them:

Canada: Canadian Tire would be your best bet. Wal-mart or any auto store has them.

U.S: Target has them! Or you can check K-mart, Wal-mart as well. I would personally check in the automotive section first but you can ask around in the store if they are not there.

Lorna-that is so cool you do that as a job! We will be driving past you on our way to our flight!

I think that the morning-afternoon-after dinner thing works for me. If anyone wants to be more specific that is okay too.

I would also like to have the FE cutoff be at least 3 weeks due to getting everything organized and ready.

I have seen FE's on ebay by looking up "Fish Extender!" How much more simple can it get?! I forgot to look for supplies to make my own today. I don't know if I'll make a cheap one or actually buy one. I have NO idea what I'd do with it after and if I spend more money on it I don't want it to get dusty in a closet.

Hope this helps all!

Joanne---I have chartered a bus from Pop Century on the morning on Feb 27th. You are certainly welcome to join us if you would rather not head back to the airport. The exact cost always depends on our final numbers but it is usually $20 per person. The Disney bus is $35/person so it is a decent savings. We usually leave around 8:30 AM on Saturday morning so we can get to the port nice and early. If you are interested in joinin us just let me know!!! Lorna :)

You can have just one way transfers. Did you book directly through DCL? If so, just call them and have them modify your reservation for one way transfers (port back to Disney World). The cost will be $35/person. It is not a problem to have one way transfers----people do it all the time! In fact, if you didn't have any transfers on your reservation at all you could still add a one way transfer back to Disney World during your cruise. You just have to go to Guest Services and they can add it for you! You won't get stuck at the port!!! If you used a travel agent for your reservation you can do the same thing by asking them to make the change for you.

But please do whatever makes you the most comfortable! We are happy to have you join us but feel free to stick with the Disney bus if that seems like a better fit. Just let me know either way!!! :goodvibes

Hi!
Yes, I the zipties are what people use on luggage to hold the zippers shut. In Canada we are still allowed to use locks but when I have been in the U.S. flying I have thought zipties would be a good idea. You normally would get a whole bunch in 1 package. They are normally clear or white. The only thing is I am going to make sure that I ask my room steward the night before we leave if they can bring something to cut them off because they are very strong!

I have a question about the Promenade lounge. Is it super big and will there be a ton of people in it or is there a certain spot we should meet in it? If it isn't super big then that's fine! I just have no idea how large it is.

Oh-I am excited for the DCL busses too! I am kinda nervous about finding the spot to catch them and what time to get on them. I just don't want to miss that boat.
For those who have stayed at the Hyatt what do you do for breakfast? I am thinking of just bringing something small for us but it really depends on what time we would board the boat. I dont' want to be starving.

Seashell--there is a McDonald's almost right outside of the Hyatt at MCO. I think you can see the McD's when you walk out the hotel entrance. It is inside the airport. We ate there for bfast before we caught the DCL bus. And there is no way you will miss that bus. DCL reps are everywhere guiding you where to go. Makes everything go smoothly.

Erie Cruiser is correct, there are several Disney reps around that AM. We will be there and I'll PM my cell ph # to you so you can call me that Fri pm or Sat am. Also, be sure and tell Hyatt when you ck in that you're going on the Disney Cruise and they'll tell you where to go the next am. There should be a DCL rep in the hotel. I heard that we will be able to check in for the cruise right at the hotel. I'll call DCL today and verify.

Oh no ! I guess I read it wrong. But, if they're not having Golden Mickeys and they haven't started The Villains we'll be missing a show. The moderator said they can't have the props from both shows on the ship at the same time. I guess there's no room to store them. I wish Toy Story was on the Magic as well as the Wonder. It's so cute !:confused3

Would anyone like to join us for Sunny Liston's St Thomas Tour. Sunny will pick us up at the ship at 9 am and will return us at 2-2:30 pm.

Sunny drops us off in town to shop & have lunch, then the tour begins , ending at one of the beaches at 2pm. There would be no beach time, only time to take pictures. Sunny is well know & has a reputation for a lively, "musical" tour.

The price is $25/ pp

Is anyone else planning on working out on this cruise? I really, really don't want to gain weight while on board but have heard most people do gain on cruises.

I am don't want to lose my motivation and know it is so easy to do when you are on vacation. I want to either do some classes or some 20-30 min. workouts I on the machines. It doesn't seem like much but again, while on vacation it is so hard.

Anyone else ever workout on cruises?

I can't wait to sail on the DREAM! Hopefully one day we will! DH is a member of D23 and he got his magazine in the mail yesterday. There are some drawings/computer graphics of the Dream in there and it looks beautiful!

We haven't discussed excursions too much yet. We know we want to snorkel for sure though.
Last year, we snorkled in the snorkle lagoon at Castaway Cay. It was a windy day so the water was a bit cloudy, however, we saw tons of fish! There were hundreds of them and if you let yourself, you could have touched them. And they got so close! They weren't afraid of us--but I was kinda afraid of them! lol! I had to pop my head out of the water several times so I didnt see that I was surrounded by fish, ha! It was fun though--I definitely recommend it!

Did you just rent equipment or did you pay for an excursions? My Husband would like to take my son snorkeling and so we would like like any info you could provide.

ErieCruiser08
10-28-2009, 06:35 PM
We rented the snorkel equipment from Disney. We paid for it on the ship and I think they gave us a voucher to turn in at the snorkel place on Castaway Cay. I believe it was $25 per adult for rental, which included mask, fins, and snorkel.
Then we just walked right into the crystal clear water and began snorkling. Its so much fun looking for the hidden treasures under the water. Also, if you aren't interested in snorkeling, you can sit on the beach which is in the same area as the snorkel lagoon. So you could watch them snorkel from a cozy lounge chair:-)
Have a great day!

I am also looking for a place to snorkel, swim, relax on the days we are in St. Marten and St. Thomas. I think our family just wants to hang and enjoy the beach those days. Are there nice beaches to hit at either port of call? Some beach with locals cooking lunch and serving drinks....

A co-worker of mine said somehting about Oriental beach at StM?

thanks,

Orient Beach is beautiful.Don't know if there's snorkling. The section of the beach that we like is Dawn Beach .Very wide white sandy beach. Chairs, umbrellas,Scavengers Beach Bar...burgers,salads,fresh fish, etc. Bathroom(2) chg facillities. Nice picnic tables w/ thatched coverings. We sat there for an hour while our Granddaughters played next to us in the sand. Some people complain that there is nudity. We only saw one couple walk by on the beach. The kids didn't even notice. The adults found it amusing. "Live and let live", that's my motto. I think Orient Beach is a beautiful and very restful place. It's been called the" French Riviera of the Caribbean". BTW, the first time we were in St Maarten, we went to the beach near the ship. I thought it was fine for college age, but it was loud and crowded. But don't book a tour to Orient Beach. There are plenty of taxis & taxi vans on each end.Plenty when you're ready to come back to the ship. Most taxi drivers will agree to come back and get you at a certain time. My driver didn't want us to pay him until he came back !

My favorite place to snorkle is St John's Island. We always take a DCL tour there. It's a 30 min ?? ferry ride over and back. Some like Sapphire Beach. Too many iguanas for me. Sorry, but I'm scared to death of those creatures !

Do we have anyone else wanting to submit a name for our cruise ?? We'll have a poll on Sat :grouphug:

I know, I just keep seeing our cruise siggies and think, "Oh gosh. That's not that far away!" I think that mid-Jan-end of feb. will go really slowly because all of the Christmas/New Year fun is over. Where I live it will be bleak. And cold. And dark. :( I love having 16 hours of sun in the spring/summer but winter is horrible.

Scrappy-our plane gets in that evening and we are going to the Hyatt. When do you get in? I know we'll have to grab something to eat but I'm not sure where. Around the airport? Around the hotel?

Also-okay, maybe this is paranoid but leaving Hyatt to do the luggage transfer I am nervous to leave our luggage in our room for them to take care of! What if they lose it or steal or something?

scrapycruiser
11-04-2009, 07:49 PM
We get in at 1:15pm on Air Tran. I will send you a PM with my cell # in case you need any help. The airport has a large Food Court where you can get dinner and/or breakfast. Don't stress over your luggage. We plan to go to the food court ( it's right next to the Hyatt ) for breakfast. They have McDonalds, prob Starbucks, and my fav...Krispy Kreme Donuts !! I know, I'm bad ! After we eat, we'll go up to the room to make sure they have picked up our luggage before we get on the bus.

We always go to Orient Beach. The first time we went to St M we did the
2 Flags Tour ? and the inner part of the island is very depressing. We just didn't enjoy it. One time we did the Sailing Regatta. Most people love this, but I got terribly seasick .

There is a beach very close to the ship. They have chairs, food& bev, small beach, clear water. But I found it more geared to college age & 20's. Party atmosphere & lots of beer !

Dawn Beach, 15 min away, beautiful beach, has everything ,but can be rough surf if you have young children.

So we go to Orient Beach, usu Bikini Beach. There is nudity at Orient Beach, but at one end not near Bikini. You might see some nudes walk by. My kids/grandkids didn't even notice. The adults could care less. We probably noticed cause we were aware that it existed. Anyway, Orient Beach is a very wide white sand beach...some call it the French Riviera of the Caribbean !
Very beautiful ! They have chairs&umbrellas for $15, plenty of snack bars & drinks, some have water tramboline, restrooms. Taxi from pier is $18/ea way. Just tell the taxi driver what you're looking for and he'll take you there. There are plenty of taxis around for a ride back to the ship. Or you can arrange a time for your driver to come back to get you. Our driver even told us not to pay until came back. They are very reliable.Hope this helps.

I noticed you have 6 in your party but I only have 2131 for a stateroom. Do you have another cabin ? Is Pumpkin Princess with you ? I was confused because your 4 and their 4 added to 8 ??? Are all of you participating in the FE ??

Thanks !

What do you think about a FE cutoff date of Feb 1st ???

That will give everyone plenty of time to finish their shopping or crafts. I know some are planning pre cruise trips to WDW.

LOGO UPDATE
The lady who is designing our logo has been sick, but it should be done in 3-4 days I was told :cheer2:

Here's a group hug for all of our Mickey's Magical Castaways !!:grouphug:

SuperNervousErie is in the same cabin as Cowgirl. They are fitting the 4 of them (all adults) into the one cabin. And yep, they are participating in the F/E, so the 4 of them will work together on deliveries and gifts :)

On our last cruise, we had people joining the f/e right up til the last 2 weeks prior to sailing. If we don't get more interest in others doing the f/e with us, I might suggest the cut-off date being Feb, 7 or 8--just to see if we get anyone else?---what do you guys think??? I'm fine with whatever!

Hi,
We are a family of 4. two girls age 5 and 7. It is their first cruise and my wife and my second cruise - last one was a long time ago though.

Not sure what to expect (I am sure lots of fun) and have lots of questions.

Do you all meet up on board?

We are thinking of staying on after the cruise for a few days in Orlando. Not sure if we should do the Disney park or veg elsewhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi Silv01! Welcome to Mickey's Magical Castaways! Woo hoo! Be sure to check the cruise forum FAQ as well, that helped me with lots of questions I had.

Thanks Scrappy for the info! I think Feb. 1 would be a good cut off time because if people are making things it could take them more time. If you look at the F/E homemade gifts some are pretty detailed!

St. Marteen we are doing a tour with a local company-which I have heard great things about. We go all around the island and do spend a few hours at the beach. Just wondering though-we don't have to back on the ship until 7 or 8 so is anyone staying on the island that long? I don't know if we would go for dinner somewhere on St. Marteen or if there is things to do in the early evening. I want to get the most out of it!

For Castaway Cay all I wnat to do is lay on the adult part of the beach and relax.

I hope it is gorgeous weather when we cruise!

WELCOME to MICKEY'S MAGICAL CASTAWAYS !!!!pirate:

You're 1st Disney cruise ? You're in for the time of your life !
First of all the Magic is a beautiful ship, the crew is exceptional
always catering to the kids, there are adult areas for relaxation, there
are planned family events, evening shows to equal Broadway, fantastic
kids' clubs with creative activities ! It looks like ,with a 5 & 7 yr old they'll both be together in the Oceanears Club.

You must have a ton of questions so fire away ! One suggestion I would make is to purchase a copy of PassPorter's Disney Cruise Line. Jennifer& Dave, who wrote the book also have one for the parks. I refer to mine all the time.

We will have get-together once onboard on Embarkation Day, at 3pm in the Promenade lounge on Deck 3, just down from the lobby, between Lumiere's resturant and Parrot Cay on the port side (left) of the ship.

We also, welcome you to join our FE gift exchange. FE (fish extender) ...there is a fish next to your cabin door that messages, are sometimes left. There you can hang a bag to collect goodies from your group. Nothing big or costly. If you do a search for Fish extender gifts you'll get an idea of what it's all about. Some people make things, some give candy, some give glo necklaces, pirate stuff ,hand sanitizers, tiny flashlights, travel size toiletries. Some give 1 gift /cabin ; some just give to kids. It's totally flexible.

So welcome ,again !! :cheer2:

It's going to be sooooo much fun !! :grouphug:

THANKS for straightening me out. BTW, who is nervous ? Greg or Bethany ?:)

Yes, I think you're right. Feb 7 would be fine. That still leaves 3 weeks before the cruise. I am making my gifts for the cabins & purchasing something for the kids. But I'll make a couple xtras just in case.

Thanks for the info. I have a lot of reading and researching to do :)
I bought the Disney Cruise Birnbaum guide, so I am getting an understanding there.
I am not sure I understand this FE but will look into it more.

Thanks and talk more soon

Silv01..... Birnbaum is an excellent source ! Have fun reading it.

I hope I didn't overwhelm you with the Fish Extender info. It's just a fun little extra thing to do . If you decide you are interested just let us know and we'll explain further. The deadline to sign up isn't until 7 Feb. Each day I'll be giving The Tip of the Day so that will help, maybe. You can go to the Ports of Call section on Cruise Critic for info on St Martin & St Thomas.

Just have fun "soaking it all in " !! :dance3:

Captain Mickey plush at Macy's
Macy's has an 18" (approximately) cute Captain Mickey plush with an alarm clock for only $14.95...I picked up 2 for my kids and Mickey will "send" them here before the trip to tell them he can't wait to see them on his ship.

Check them out if you have a Macy's near you....

OK, here is the logo that milliepie did for us, but I can't figure how to open it. It's on my desk top and I want to show it to you . Any ideas ? :rolleyes1

Also, she said if we wanted to change anything about it, no problem . :confused3

It won't let me copy and paste ??

I'll keep trying.
