So after reading a few trip reports and some pretrip reports I decided to write my own. This is the first time I'm writing one so please be kind. :goodvibes So here goes...

So I'm taking my boyfriend for his first trip to Disney World and I think I'm more excited than he is (actually I know I am!) So lets get to the passengers on this trip.

So there's me (Sara). I'm 22 years old and went on my first WDW trip when I was 8 years old. I've been to disney about 19 or 20 times since then. I love disney and anything to do with disney. I am a kid at heart and am never growing up. I am absolutely obssessed and also an obssessive planner, as one Diser said, I have OCPD (sorry I can't remember who used this term but if you read this thanks for the term, I love it!) All of my other trips have been with my family so this is the first time I've had to plan everything by myself and I have to say it's nervewracking but I love it. I go to Penn State for nursing and will graduate in May with my associate's degree and become an RN, in the fall I will finish my bachelor's degree in nursing. I can't wait! Both my boyfriend and I live in northeast PA and we hope to move to Florida in the next few years (Yay!!! I'll be closer to Disney!)

This is me from one of my previous disney trips and yes I bring the light up tiara on each trip and wear it proudly...
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/435220599_l.jpg

So then comes by DBF. His name is Ian and he is 19 years old, he wil be 20 in about 2 1/2 weeks. He has never been to disney and is definitely not as excited as I am. I think and hope he will be as we get closer. His favorite disney movies are The Nightmare Before Christmas and Aladdin.

Here is a picture of him...

So there is the passengers on this WDW trip and I will be back with some more about my previous trips, where we're staying, and how the planning's going so far (just wait for the flight stuff, let me tell you that's been a lot of fun:scared1: )

To be continued...

Ok so to continue on...I had my first trip to disney when I was 8. My mom, dad, me, and my brother went. We loved it so much that my parents bought DVC on the spot and we've been back ever since! :thumbsup2 I love Disney world and anything to do with Disney. I've stayed at a few of the different hotels there, Port Orleans French Quarter (when it was just known as Port Orleans), Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boardwalk, and mostly Old Key West. This will be the first time I'm staying at Pop Century and I am so excited! I've been to Disney world every year since I first went and sometimes twice a year, I vowed to myself that I would keep it up and never miss a year which was what prompted this trip. My family wasn't going to Disney this year and I refused to miss a year and break my streak. Here are some pictures of previous trips and my home resort OKW...

so those are from my last trip to Disney. So onto some planning...

Ok so you know that disney commercial where the parents are looking online to see how much a disney vacation costs and they say "hey we can do that" or something along those lines? Well that was me. As I said before I didn't want to miss a year at disney but I didn't think it was in the cards for me this year. I did though want to go on a vacation with Ian as we hadn't every really gone on a real trip together so I thought we might go to the beach or something like that for a week. Well I was pricing hotels and I saw that commercial on tv and I swear I thought the same thing "hey we can afford that!" So that was the beginning of my planning for disney. I've wanted to take Ian to disney since we practically met and I thought we would have to wait for a while but that commercial got me. See Disney, those commercials really do work!!!

So I started pricing vacations. I knew that we wouldn't be able to afford anything more than a value resort so I wanted to pick one that looked like fun so I picked Pop Century. I remember thinking on previous vacations that Pop looked like a fun resort and I would like to stay there. So Pop it was. I was trying to find out a way to save even more money (I'm a poor college student, every bit counts right?) So I got talking to my parents, since they were the planners for our previous vacations I thought they would help and they did! They told me to go to AAA and see if they could give me any discounts. Well before I had gone I had already priced out everything to see how much of a difference the price would be, I do my homework! I had also looked at flights and found that Delta was the cheapest. Well I went to AAA the next week and was pricing a trip well wouldn't you know in the week since I first looked at flights the price of the one I wanted went up like $100!! Oh well they were still realtively cheap and I was just happy I could get what I wanted and I was going to Disney World! So I booked my trip with a TA from AAA. I probably could have done it on my own but I like having a TA to call and figure things out for me. Of course if I think she might be wrong I will definitely check it out on my own!! ;) I went to AAA knowing exactly what I wanted. I had the hotel, the dates, the tickets, that I wanted the quick service dinning plan and ME all picked out and ready to go. She really didn't have to plan that much for me! The only thing I was debating on was whether or not I wanted to add the water park and more option and decided it would be a good idea and as it turned out Ian wanted to go to DisneyQuest for a little bit so it definitely saved us some money. Before I went to AAA I also wasn't sure about the dinning plan but since my boyfriend and I don't really care about a sit down meal, we're fine with cs so we did the quick service plus I didn't want to worry about having to spend a lot of time eating when we didn't have a lot of time there. I remember from one of my trips to Disney we felt like we didn't do a lot because we had to plan everything around eating. I'm used to going to disney for 2 weeks so I definitely didn't want to waste time on this trip. So the quick service was the best choice for us. I can't even remember now if it actually saved us money but the convienience of having our food paid for upfront was worth it. I did want to do one sit down meal our last night there, something a little more special so I budgeted that in for us. I wasn't sure where I wanted to go and my choice will come in later editions, so hold on for the answer!

So in October of last year I had my Disney trip booked!! :woohoo: I called my boyfriend on the way home and practically screamed, "Guess what!!! We're going to Disney World" I'm pretty sure at that point he knew I was crazy (if he didn't guess that already :crazy2:) I was practically jumping in my seat as I drove singing "We're going to Disney World, We're going to Disney World" Yes I am crazy but I don't care cause guess what? I'm going to Disney World!!!! (of course being sung while bouncing in my bed!! :yay:)

So that was how I booked our trip, nothing really eventful in that story but thought it was important to give a little background info. The trip is for August 9-15. We're staying at Pop Century and we're on the quick service DDP. We're flying on Delta and getting to orlando late morning so hopefully we'll have some time that day to go to a park.

The next installment will be about my obsessive planning! (and I do mean obsessive :hyper:)

Ok so I am an obsessive planner. Once I made our plans I got down to planning. I found this wonderful planning organizer from one of the Disers here. I'm sorry but I can't remember who it was but they are great. Well I started planning on what days we would go where and what we would do each day. When we used to go we usually don't plan our days real well but since this trip was only going to be a week and it was Ian's first trip I wanted to make sure we did everything we could. So I now have everything planned out. So here's the overview of the plan:

Sunday: Land at Orlando hopefully at 11:30
Get to Pop by 2:00
Get to Magic Kingdom by 3:30 (I have to go to MK on my first day and see that castle!!! :wizard:)
See SpectroMagic and Wishes that night

Monday: Get to Epcot by rope drop and spend the day
If we have time go pack to Pop for a break if not take a break at Epcot for a while
Have CS lunch at Sunshine Seasons
Spend afternoon/night at Hollywood Studios
Have CS dinner at Backlot Express
See Fantasmic tonight if it's offered

Tuesday: Get to Hollywood Studios by rope drop
Spend the morning and early afternoon at HS
Have CS lunch at Toy Story Pizza Planet
Take break at Pop if time
Spend late afternoon/night at Epcot and do things we haven't done yet
Have CS dinner at Electric Umbrella

Wednesday: Get to Typhoon Lagoon by opening
Hopefully get a spot next to the wave pool
Have CS lunch at TL
Go back to Pop and change and take a quick break
Spend night at Magic Kingdom and do some more rides
Have CS dinner at El Pirata y el Perico Restaurante

Thursday: Get to Animal Kingdom by rope drop
Spend morning/early afternoon at AK
Have CS lunch at Pizzafari
Go back to Pop and change real quick (our last ride is Kali River Rapids so we'll be a bit wet :goodvibes)
Head to DisneyQuest (Ian's a big video game person so he wanted to go here for a little bit)
Have CS dinner at DisneyQuest
Spend a few hours at DQ and head to Marketplace
Do most of our shopping at World of Disney
Head back to Pop to sleep

Friday: Get to Magic Kingdom by rope drop
Spend morning/early afternoon at MK
Have CS lunch at Peco's Bill
Go back to Pop and freshen up
Dinner at LeCellier
Watch Illuminations after dinner
Head back to Pop for the night, relax and pack :sad1:

Saturday: Get to Magic Kindom by rope drop
Finish what we haven't done
Get on Magical Express
Go home :guilty:
Saturday may be changed, it depends on what we haven't finished or what we want to do again but I'd like to see the castle right before we leave.

So that's my plan so far, it might not work out the way I want but at least I've got a starting point.

The next installment will be about my problems with the airlines!! :scared1:

:banana:I think I'm first! You really have this thing down don't you?

I wonder how the crowds are going to be first, and second did you get the 4/3 deal? I think personally that is the best deal I've seen from Disney other than pin codes in a while. . .

Just found your PTR, we could be planning twins! A couple of years ago, my family took my boyfriend on his first WDW trip, and he's gone back with me twice since then. He enjoys it, although definitely not as much as I do. I'm also an obsessive planner on most Disney trips, and he probably thinks that I'm crazy as well. Look forward to seeing more of your plans! :thumbsup2

First of all I have to say thanks to both of you, I started this PTR a while ago and no one seemed to look at it and I was about to give up but I figured hey, I'll keep going you'll never know maybe someone will find it and if not I'll write it for myself, hehe.

Ha ha, yeah creativeamanda, I've been planning this since October and I still have so long to go!! I'm not sure how the crowds are going to be, I haven't been there in August for like 7 or 8 years, to be honest I can't remember how they were back then. I've been checking the UG website and the days are ranked as a 7 or 8 so I'm a little worried but we'll be ok, I'm used to summer crowds so we'll see how things go. I did get the 4/3 deal, I originally booked it first without it and then when I found out about the deal I emailed my TA like that day! I was so excited! I think it's an awesome deal, def. saved me some money! I've never gotten a pin code, course this is my first trip I've done by myself, all of the others I went with my parents and they used DVC so that could be it :rotfl:.

Tink774: Glad to meet a fellow OCPD!! I'm hoping my boyfriend will like WDW, cause if not we're going to have some problems:rotfl2:. Even if he likes it 1/3 of what I do that'll be ok. hehe. I know he thinks I'm crazy, he's said so but I deal with his obsessions too so he'll have to deal. How can you not love disney, it's wonderful!!

Again thanks guys for looking at my PTR, next to come is my rediculous problems with the airlines, they gave me quite a few headaches but everything's been figured out now. I'll either update later tonight or tomorrow!

Hi, you are going about two weeks before me! Great to see your planning :)

I hope that your boyfriend likes DisneyQuest! Rob (my bf) is also a video game fanatic, but I've never had the opportunity to take him to DisneyQuest before. Maybe on our next trip, whenever that will be. I went once a looooong time ago, and from what I hear there have been lots of changes since then. Next time, I'll make a much more awesome roller coaster if they still have that game!

And I'm jealous that you're eating at Le Cellier! For the past two trips, I've tried to get reservations there to try it, but I've never been successful. Take lots of food porn pics!! :goodvibes

Totally know how you feel about writing a PTR. I'm going to attempt to write one for my last-minute 21st birthday trip in two weeks (staying at POP, too!), but I may be the only one who actually pays any attention to it. :confused3

DisneymoonJess07: Thanks for joining!! I'll be over to read your report as soon as I get a chance! Did you get to do the free dinning? It starts the day after we leave so we didn't get to do it but we did get the 4/3 deal. Have fun on your anniversary trip!!

Tink774: We're hoping we can fit all of the things in that we want to do there cause we're not spending a whole lot of time there but whatever we do will be fun! I've been there once too a while ago and remember really enjoying it but thinking there should be more stuff. I think they added more stuff since I've been there too so it should be cool to see the new things. I did do the build your own rollarcoaster thing and it was awesome!! My family did a whole competition thing against each other to see who could build the best one. It was my mom and I on one team and my dad and brother on the other. Well needless to say my mom and I won!! Our coaster was ranked like a 10/10 and it was rough I must say. I will def. read your PTR if you write one, I love reading them and TR so write away!!

I do like LeCellier, I know some people don't like it but I love the food and we've always had good experiences there. We're hoping to get the ADR for this trip but since we can't make them yet we'll see how it goes. I'm gonna call right at 7am at the 90 day mark so I'm hoping all will go all right. I suppose I should have a back up plan in case we don't get it. Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to go in case we can't get it? I want some place in World Showcase cause we're going to see Illuminations afterwards. Thanks!! (Oh and I will def. take a lot of food porn pics!!)

Oh and I have no idea how to multiquote like two different people can anyone tell me how to do that? Thanks!!

tink774

I can't wait to see your pics from Typhoon Lagoon! It's been at least ten years since I've been there, and I don't remember it at all. :upsidedow

And I decided to take your advice and go ahead and start a PTR! Definitely helps me get more excited about getting ready for WDW!

Microcell

I don't know how to either, and would like to learn myself how to multi quote!

You don't worry at all about being an overplanner, I think that is the majority of us on this board!

I gotta say you have topped me, I never actually write the part about going back to bed at the hotel!:thumbsup2

tink774: I will be over to read your PTR as soon as I'm done! Can't wait to read it! I love TL! The wave pool is my favorite! Gotta love those huge waves :scared1: When I get back I will def. be doing a trip report and post lots of pics but if I can find some of typhoon lagoon from my past trips I will try to post them for you but they might be before I had a digital camera and I may need to scan them in. I'll see if I can find some from my mom's pics too.

Microcell: Yeah I actually have more than what I put on here in my plans, they're just an summary kinda thing. If you saw everything I actually have planned out already you would def. think I was crazy but it helps pass the time and I like to have everything figured out.

(Side note: I can't spell for the life of me so if some of the words are horribly off please forgive me :))

Ok so on with my problems with the airlines. Well we're flying delta, I've flown with them before but of course since I never planned anything I didn't really know if there were any problems since my dad always took care of that. Well I booked the flight with delta since they were the cheapest, we're leaving at 6:00 am and on the way home leaving at 5:30 pm so we'll have a good portion of both those days.

Problem #1: Well the first hiccup that happened was a month or two after I booked. I was checking my flight because of course I have OCPD and need to make sure everthing was ok and it's a good thing I did cause I found that our flight down was ok but on the way home our final flight landed in michigan!!! :scared1: Now I live in pennsylvania so that's not really near michigan! Well of course I had to get that fixed and of course it was 11 at night so my TA couldn't help at that time. I did end up emailing her to see what she could do but since I knew she wouldn't be getting back to me until at least the next day I decided to call delta myself. Well after waiting on hold and getting routed to about 3 different people I finally talked to someone who said that the flight got changed or something and now only had a 12:30 flight leaving on our departure day :scared1: That's 5 hours before my previous flight I was really really &*#$@&! And of course being prepared that I am I knew that there was a 5:30 flght leaving because I checked on delta's website well I argued with him for a while and he said he couldn't give me that flight. Well it's now like 11:30, I'm getting really irritated and tired, hello people I have class the next morning!!!! So I just booked that flight because I figured that landing in pa earlier would be better than landing in michigan! What I couldn't figure is that they know I'm flying out of pa, why wouldn't they pick that up and say hey that girl is flying from pa and wants to land in pa maybe we should book her a flight to pa? :crazy2: Crazy I know right. Well the next day I got an email from my TA saying that she knew a week ago that the flight had been changed and had told them to change it. Well I'm not sure if I should be mad at my TA or delta or both! Well my TA redeemed herself because she got delta to change my flight to 5:30! YAY!!! :woohoo: So I guess now I'm just mad at delta  But thankfully that problem got fixed.

Problem #2: A few weeks ago I was again checking my flight to see if there were any time changes (I now check it religiously because of the first problem I had). Well there were I found that my flight on the way home now left at 6:40 Woohoo!!!:cool1: I have more time at disney!! Well I should have read further first. Yes I do get to leave disney later but I land in altanta at 9:18 pm and my connecting flight to pa leaves at 9:00 pm. Hmmmm... well I know have -18 minutes to make the flight, somehow I don't think that's going to happen. I'm not real good with the whole traveling back in time thing :teleport:. So once again I email my TA, well this time she fixes it and I'm back on the 5:30 flight :guilty: Oh well at least it's not 12:30! :goodvibes

So that's my flight problems, hopefully there won't be any more big ones. I'm sure others have had more problems but these def. gave me quite a headache :headache:. One good thing did happen with delta though, I don't have to pay the luggage fees!! Since we booked the flight before Nov. 6 we don't have to pay the fees and we can both take our first checked bag free!! It's not that much but it'll save us like $60 and that's more money for souvinirs(sp?)!!

So that's my update for now, I think I'm all caught up on the planning I've done so far so I'm not sure what'll come next. I of course have not bought anything for the trip yet (planning I'm ocd about but actually doing things I'm a huge procrastinator!) So I'll have to think of something else to keep this PTR interesting. Hmmm...let me think.

Subbing!

First, before I forget to answer you...to do the multiquote thing... Click on the "+ icon thingy in between the 'quote' and edit buttons at the bottom of the post you want to quote. You can click as many as you want, even go to different pages and it still remembers from the previous page. then when you're done, click the Quote button on the last thread you want to quote and all of the ones you selected will appear :) It took me awhile to figure it out, haha!

Can't wait to hear how you bf likes Disney. I have yet to find a guy that is completely thrilled with the idea of going down there. Crossing my fingers that when I do find Mr. Right he'll be accepting of my obsession ;)

As for a backup for Le Cellier... hmm.. I LOVE Tutto Italia. Went last May and it was fabulous. I also really like Chefs de France. Hmm..if you want a fun dinner..there's always Teppan Edo? But that's not as romantic for your one sit down dinner there.

So here's just some random pictures from my last trip to disney. I'm going to try and scan some from when I was little but it might take me a little while so here's some to tide you over for now.

My favorite pic the Tree of Life. The lighting was just absolutely amazing

Sorry about the next few pics they were photopass pics but I took pictures of them from my computer a while ago and I can't find the photopass cd, my mom must have put it somewhere and of course she's not home!

My brother with Darth Vadar. We went last summer during Star Wars Weekend. It was fun but crowded.

My family!!!!

Me and my dad. I am such a daddy's girl!!!!!
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN0666.jpg

Me and my brother in front of the castle!!! We were actually taking this pic for a b-day present for my mom. We went down last summer for my mom's b-day and I bought her a frame that says "I can still remember the magic of our first visit to Walt Disney World. When we got there we rode a real monorail to the Magic Kingdom, where we first met Mickey and the gang. I can still recall the smells of popcorn and cotton candy as we walked down Main Street, U.S.A. And there it was at the end of the street-Cinderella Castle." So we took the picture and gave it to her when we got home. She of course cried. She loved it.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN0543.jpg
Actually it's a really sweet story about the frame. I couldn't find the frame anywhere. I had seen it once and of course didn't buy it and we were in the World of Disney at DTD and I was looking everywhere well I asked this lady and she smiled and said I'm sorry I think we're all sold out so I said thank you and was going to walk away. Well as I was walking away she told me to hang on for a minute and she ran in the back, she came back out and said I was saving this for someone special and I guess that was you. She had hidden one in the back. Now I know she couldn't possibly have been saving it for me, it was probably for her or as a present but it really brought tears to my eyes and I couldn't thank her enough. It was one of my magical moments at disney!

Me and Jedi Mickey. he was the only one I really really wanted to see during star wars weekend and we waited forever in line to see him and I finally did!!!!
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN0501.jpg

This is Fred. He is my dad and my lizard. My dad named him and he was always there when we came back from the parks at night and I mean every night, we were there for like 11 nights or so and he was there every single night. He was never there during the day though. We always said goodnight fred everynight too and of course we said good bye to him when we left disney. Yeah none of my family is right in the head!

Yeah OKW is our home away from home as we like to say. (Plus really it's our home resort with DVC) We've stayed there most of the times we've gone to disney. I love the layed back feel and of course that we get a two bedroom and there's more space (love my family but need some time away from them 2 weeks is a long time to be cooped up in a room with them). Ok so since you had such a good idea on your PTR with the whole ride memories thing, do you have any ideas I can use in my PTR? I feel really weird using your stuff plus I think I've used all my memories on yours :rotfl:.

We call it "home" now too! Like when we're at a park doing something, we'll say something like "Let's go home and swim" or something like that.

We usually do a 1 room villa, but as I said at the beginning of my PTR, this will be our first time doing a 2 bedroom! I'm so excited! We were amazed at how big the 1 bedroom was at OKW, so we can't imagine how big the 2 bedroom will be! I hear ya on wanting some alone time from the family on vacation. Which is why we're getting a 2 bedroom! Usually, B/F and I slept on the pull out couch and sis slept on an air mattress.

Okay...ideas for your PTR...let me think for a minute...how about doing a favorite memory from each park overall and resort (we like to resort hop/explore/eat there).

Your comments about the flights make me happy I live close enough to drive. Of course, my fear of heights don't help, either, but anywho. . . . .

BTW, I actually love POP Century! For me, it will always be my first Disney home.

haha...we do the same thing. "ok it's time to go home and take a rest before we go back to magic kingdom!!!" wow I can't believe you lived having all of those people in a one bedroom! We used to get a 1 bedroom when my brother and I were smaller and we would sleep on the pullout couch but now I'm so glad for my own bed. You'll be amazed at how much room is in the 2 bedroom. I love it! I forget from your PTR, are you DVC members, do you rent the points, or just pay for the room, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks for the idea! We like to resort hop too and eat at differnt restaurants. This means that I'll have to think of some memories!!! (Oh I forgot to tell everyone, my memory is absolutely awful. My dbf teases me about it all of the time. He can literally tell me something and 10 minutes later I'll forget it. I'm really bad) But anyways, thanks tinkgurl.

yeah it would be great if we could drive. I know my dbf would feel so much better about it. He's never flown before and he's terrified. This is my first time staying at Pop but I'm sure I'll love it, it seems like such a fun resort! Can't wait!!!!

Oh by the way I found some old pictures from my first trip to disney and as soon as I become less lazy I'll scan them on my computer and post some! So stay tuned!!!

:) Oh don't be scared to ask me any questions at all! :)

We are DVC members. Our "home" resort is the BC, but we always switched over to staying at WLV because the MK is our favorite park. Now for last year, it was pretty hectic around my house and they got a late start to making reservations and then I finally was able to go...we ended up not being able to stay at WLV, but OKW was available so we took it. AND BOY ARE WE GLAD WE DID!

Haha, I feel his pain! I absolutely hate flying. I've flown about five or six times in my life, I think, and always 5+ hours. For me the whole experience is generally unpleasant.

I better not let him see this! And of course this year there seemed to be a lot of plane crashes recently so that doesn't help any! Oh well he's going wether he likes it or not. I was talking about disney last night and he was just groaning. I asked him if he was going to kill me before we even got there and he told me probably. Then he said well I guess not because I don't really want to fly by myself. Well thanks ian, I feel so loved now.

Oh speaking of ian...It's his BIRTHDAY today!!!!! Yay!!!! :bday:
He'll kill me for telling anyone, he hates his birthday so of course that means I must make a big deal about it. We can't do dinner or anything cause he has to work tonight but I bought him a huge cheesecake (he hates candy or anything sweet but LOVES cheesecake) and I'm paying for a new tattoo for him as a birthday present. So overall just a quite day.

I love your Tink PJs! I have some pink fleece pajama pants with Tink on them, and they're so comfy! But my favorite are my Chip & Dale pajama pants. Gotta have plenty of Disney apparel for your trip!!

Are you going to try and get your DBF to wear anything Disney? I think mine would have me committed for even suggesting it. :rotfl2:

Ok so I decided I know what I'm going to do with my PTR. I'm gonna use the disney attractions and give you all a bit of disney trivia. I love disney trivia so each day (hopefully) I'll give you guys a bit of disney trivia and if you guys know any please post it. Also if you guys have any pics of fun stuff or stuff that goes along with the trivia post please. So here goes!!!

Disney Trivia of the Day!

Cinderella Castle

Designed by Imagineer Dorothea Redmond and crafted and set in place by a team of six artists led by mosaicist Hanns-Joachim Scharff, the 15 by 10 foot, ornate panels are shaped in a Gothic arch. The murals took more than two years to complete, and contain hundreds of thousands of pieces of Italian glass and rough smalti (glass made specifically for mosaics traditionally used by Italian craftsmen) in over 500 colors. Many of the hand-cut tiles are fused with sterling silver and 14-carat gold, and some are as small as the head of a tack.

If you look closely at these ornate murals, you will notice that each of Cinderella's wicked stepsisters appears with a little added color - one sister's face is clearly "red with anger," while the other sister is a little "green with envy," as they watch Cinderella try on the glass slipper.

(now I have gathered this trivia from a bunch of places and I'm not completely sure if all of it's correct but it's fun nonetheless!!!)

Hope you all enjoy!!!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

The story behind the attraction is that greedy gold prospectors where plundering the hills of Wyoming's "Big Thunder Mountain," which at one time was sacred Indian burial ground. An ancient Indian legend warned of disaster if anyone tried to remove gold from the mountain. Ignoring the warning, the miners took the train down into the deep mines, where Indian spirits took control of the mine cars and spun it out of control. The miners were never heard from again. Some time later, an earthquake destroyed most of the mine, and as the disasters continued, the miners and visitors to the town of Tumbleweed quickly vanished. Now, only a few residents remain, but the legend of Big Thunder lives on.

Each of the six trains on the Big Thunder Mountain railroad are named. The names of the trains are: I.M. Brave, I.M. Fearless., I.B. Hearty, U.B. Bold, U.R. Daring, and U.R. Courageous.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Tom Sawyer's Island

While passing through Harper's Mill on Tom Sawyer's Island, take a close look at the wooden gears inside. On one of the horizontally-rotating gears, look between the cogs to find a little blue bird sitting in his (or her) nest.

This bird is a subtle reference to the Disney cartoon, "The Old Mill," the first Disney film to use the multi-plane camera. The film contains a scene where a bird has nested in the cog of a gearwheel. When the wheel begins to turn, the nest is saved when a gear tooth that would have crushed the nest is missing.

Listen closely, too... you can hear the bird singing from its nest, as well as hear the creaks and groans of the old mill playing "Down by the Old Mill Stream."

Disney Trivia of the Day

The Jungle Cruise

While waiting in the Jungle Cruise queue, listen closely to the announcements. You'll hear that one of the new sponsors of the Jungle Cruise is "Casablanca Air: The Airline No One Comes Back From".

As you're in the queue close to where you will board the boat, there is a table with a caged tarantula spider in it. If you put your hand close to the side nearest the queue of people and move it, the spider will "run" across the cage, causing it to tip up on its side, as if from the spider's momentum as it tries to "get" you.

(I've never heard or seen either one of these but I haven't been on the Jungle Cruise in a while, def. have to do that this trip, I want to see if these are true. Well I did see a video of the spider so I guess that one's true :))

Disney Trivia of the Day

Fantasyland

Ok so I know this isn't an attraction or anything but I like the trivia I have for Fantasyland so I decided to put it in

As you walk through the Castle from the central hub towards Fantasyland, look for a small fountain with Cinderella at the center on the left side. Officially titled, "La Fontaine de Cendrillon" (or Fountain of Cinderella), this bronze statue is named after the fairy tale heroine who became popular in France in 1967, and served as the inspiration for Disney's 1950 animated classic, "Cinderella."
This fountain is known as "Rags to Riches" because if you stand (actually, you may have to kneel) in front of Cinderella and look at the painted mural behind it on the Castle wall, a painted image of a crown appears to be sitting on top of the princess' head. Although an adult may have to get low to see it, this was designed intentionally so that when children look at the fountain, they can clearly see the crowned princess. (it's next to Tinkerbell's Treasures)

Located around the corner from it's a small world, the Pinocchio Village Haus serves fast food and snacks in a restaurant themed to the story of the little wooden boy who just wanted to be human. One of the restaurant's hidden treasures is a window overlooking it's a small world. The restaurant is divided into seven themed rooms, each named after a character in the film. The names of the rooms are: Blue Fairy, Cleo, Jiminy Cricket, Monstro, Stromboli, and Gepetto's Workshop

As you enter the Columbia House Restaurant from the Fantasy Land end nearest Peter Pan's Flight (London), it is decorated to represent England and as you walk through, the decor changes to early American.

I also thought of something, if you guys have any favorite rides or areas of parks or anything that you would like some disney trivia about just let me know, I probably have some about it, I've been collecting disney trivia for quite a while now so just let me know!!!

Congratulations on graduating! One of my roommates is graduating in a week, and my other roomie and I (we're both entering our senior year in the fall) are so jealous.

PhilharMagic! I love that show so much. It's funny, for years I put off seeing it, because I'm not truly one for the 3-D shows. I like them well enough, but most of the time they're just an excuse to get out of the hot sun. When Rob and I went in May 2007, I said, "Why don't we try it?" because there was no wait. I loved it! So many of my favorite characters/songs/films being brought together! Now it's one of my absolute must-dos for every trip.

Looking forward to more of your PTR!

O.M.G. DisneyFaeriePrincess I think we were separated at birth! lol

I am taking my DBF in August for the first time, too! We are also college students, next week is our last week of classes. Unfortunately I still have 1 semester left :sad2: then I'll have my bachelors in Biology! I pray every day that DBF will love Disney even 1/10th as much as I do!! For now he thinks I'm insane too lol. I have to get DBF cheesecake for his bday too bc he hates pretty much all other desserts and anything with chocolate.

I also went every year (sometimes twice) as a kid. Unfortunately we didn't have DVC :sad1: but I am definitely signing up as soon as I get out of school and get a FT job! Still have to talk DBF into a Disney wedding though :rotfl:

Oh and he's a video game lover too so DisneyQuest was a must!

We will be there with free dining the 17th to the 22nd. I wish we were staying at POP but they were all booked up but I keep checking just in case we can switch :thumbsup2 But for now we are staying the ASMu (Movies only had preferred rooms and I refuse to pay the $80something for that!)

We're flying airtrain, our times aren't as good but I couldn't pass up the deals! It's only his second flight and his first was only from Rochester NY to NYC so that hardly counts! Plus it was eons ago :lmao:

I'm planning on starting a PTR but probably not until after I'm done with the semester entirely. For now I'm just waiting for the park hours impatiently :bored: And using DISboards to procrastinate from doing the ridiculous amount of school work I have to do this weekend :rotfl2:

Haha, I told DBF there simply wouldn't be any other way for me to get married than at WDW. Luckily he understands. Or pretends to.

Sounds like all three of our DBFs would hit it off! They'd all just scamper off to a corner to talk about how awesome video games are and how crazy their girlfriends are at Disney.

'K, I saw your link in another PTR, & before I could get through the 1st post, I had to comment! YAY future nurse! Is it this month you get your ADN or next May? I graduate next May with my ADN, & have already signed with a local hospital (we bought a house, so we're here to stay for a while!) I plan on getting my MSN by doing a RN to MSN program, skipping the BSN all together (one BA is enough for me!). I'd also like to be a RD as well, since I want to work with bariatric patients. Do you know if you want to specialize yet?

Ok I am furious!!!! :headache: I just checked my flights on delta's website and one of our flights is GONE!!!!! The one from PA isn't there anymore! I'm so &%^#@$!!!! So once again my flight dilemma's have continued. I have to get this fixed!

Wow this is really getting ridiculous!!! I haven't flown Delta since I was a kid, usually we flew JetBlue when we didn't drive and no problems as far as I know. Lately AirTran has had better prices. They have switched times around on me now and then but never destination and certainly not erased my flight completely  Good luck getting that straightened out. If I were you I'd be thinking about getting my money refunded and looking for tickets elsewhere they shouldn't be able to treat their customers like this!

Thanks!!! Well don't get too jealous. I'm graduating on May 15 with my AD and then I have one more semester for my BD. But at least now I'll be able to get a big person real job! :rotfl: I love PhilarMagic! I love all of the them together! I especially love the music. I love disney music! My dbf doesn't know it yet but once the trip's like a week or so away all he's going to hear is disney music but shhhh don't tell him yet, he already thinks I'm crazy! Did you have your final yet or was that this Mon. (tom.)?

haha. My dbf said no to a disney wedding but I think I can con him into one. We'll see how that goes. Gotta wait until I graduate and get myself settled and stuff. I could so see our dbf running off and letting us crazy disney people to ourselves to plan and talk about disney!

My finals officially start tomorrow. I have five classes, and four of them have exams and one requires a paper instead. Last semester, my finals were all right on top of each other so it was horrible! This time they're much more spaced out. I have one tomorrow afternoon, one Tuesday afternoon, one Wednesday night, and then the paper due Thursday morning before my last final exam that afternoon. Then I am done until July 6th!

I totally hear you on the Disney music! It's wonderful for getting yourself in the WDW "zone!"

Since a Disney wedding is waaaay off in my future, you don't know how much time I spend lurking over on the Disney Weddings and Honeymoons board, living vicariously through all of those DIS brides! Haha, you could always have a lot of Nightmare Before Christmas theming for your wedding, maybe that would bring DBF around?

I'm so sorry about that! Since I live close to Atlanta where Delta is based, I've flown with them several times and they're not an airline that I particularly enjoy traveling with. Are there any other airlines that you think could get you from PA to Orlando on a similar schedule? Best of luck!!

The thing is my family and I have flown Delta a lot before and we've never had this problem. It is ridiculous. I'm not really sure if I can get my money refunded, my TA booked them and I'd have to check the details but I was thinking about it. They def. should not be treating their customers like this, it's really getting bad. I emailed my TA but she won't be in until tomorrow so I'll see what happens then.

Wow you're schedule is def. packed with finals. I thankfully only have two, one on Tues. and one on Wed. Good luck with all of them and your paper. I'm too afraid to go over to the Weddings board, I'm afraid I'll get sucked in and spend even more time on the DIS! Yeah a wedding is quite far in my future as well. Hmmm I should def. play the Nightmare Before Christmas angle, could work. hehe. I've flown Delta before and never had a problem but I'm really getting frustrated. I could probably get another flight with a different airline but I'm not sure I could get my money back for the tickets. We'll see what my TA has to say and see if she can fix it. I have to say she's been great with all of my questions and fixing my airline problems so I'm sure she can fix this. I may just stay with Delta for this trip and then never use them again!

[SIZE="3"]Thanks for joining and yay fellow nurse!!! I'm graduating May 15 and my pinning ceremony is May 13 so I'm really excited. After working for a few years (probably like 2 or 3, the school I'm thinking about has a requirment of 2 years of working before you can start the program) I'm going back for my master's and hopefully becoming a nurse practitioner. I love kids and I'm hoping to get a job in pediatrics. Once I become an NP I want to work in a pediatric office. Haha about the discount, I read that somewhere and I got so excited! Def. the best part of nursing! :rotfl: Soon I'll be able to use it!!!!

Congrats! Are you a SNA member? Word is that "they" (whoever "they" is...) is trying to make it so that a NP must have their doctorate! WTH?! I mean, a PA has a 2 year degree! Only 2 years of medical! Ugh!!!!

I'll be doing our pinning ceremony this week. The SNA members get to pin the graduates. I've got one more year left! YEAH! My med-surg final is tomorrow, and pharmacology is Tuesday. I've note even studied for the med-surg. I figure if I don't know it by now, I never will. But I've got a B (and have a baby at home, so yeah, I'm proud of that B) and would have to get a 70 to maintain my B, so I'm not concerned at all. I'll study the pharm stuff tomorrow, since I have the worst time keeping my drugs straight.

Thanks!!! Ok that's ridiculous! A doctorate!!!! Well hopefully they won't cause I do not want to do that much more school. I am a member of SNA but our members don't pin us, the head who runs the Nursing department does. If you have an RN in your family then they can pin you which I think is really nice. Unfortunately I'm the first RN so I can't have a family member pin me but that's ok. Ugh pharm is horrible, it's the hardest part for me. It's sooooo hard to keep them straight! I just finished studying for my med-surg final, ugh I've been studying for 7 hours just today! My brain is fryed and I'm done for now. I don't even want to think that I have to study for a my nursing psych final tom. Uh yeah a B with a baby is amazing!!!! I have so much respect for the people who can go to school and have a family. It's amazing to me that they can do all of it. So :worship: to you for being able to do all of that. The only thing about the program I'm in is that they don't have a separate pharm course so you have to learn the drugs and the diseases all at the same time which I think makes it harder. But oh well I'm almost done!!!!

I'm going to disney August 9-15 and those darn hours are still not out!!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know my flight problems are all figured out. My TA got it all figured out. I know leave at 6:30 am and get there at 11:37 (instead of leaving at 6:00am and getting there at 11:35) so actually it worked out better (it's only 1/2 hr but for me an 1/2 more sleep is worth it!) Plus with the change in flights we got our seats (we had to wait until 90 days to get the ones on the other flight). So I guess everything worked out for the better. Hopefully that will be the last of my flight dilemmas! So onto....

Disney Trivia of the Day!!!!

Peter Pan's Flight

At the beginning of Peter Pan's Flight, you can look down and see Nana barking outside of her little red doghouse. (Not really trivia but I never noticed it before I read this :))

On Peter Pan's Flight, in the scene where you're "flying" over London, the little moving car headlights are actually bicycle chains painted with dots of blacklight paint.

Hey I only have 2 finals! And ones on Tuesday and ones on Wednesday! :rotfl: My DBF said the only character he would want to see was Jack Skellington, too bad :sad2: He said no way to a Disney Wedding but I have a while to work on him still lol Hence my praying everyday that during our August trip he will fall in love with Disney, too! So we need to start plotting about the best way to go about getting them to love WDW!!!!

PS these similarities are starting to freak me out!
I was even really considering going to nursing school but I felt like my BS would have been a waste! lol So now I'm looking at Pharmacy schools!

I'm going to head over to your ptr as soon as I eat dinner (just finished studying and I'm starving!!!!) Can't wait to read it!!! Oh by the way...

Not sure if it's all accurate but it seems like it could be so hey it gives us something. Oh by the way I forgot to tell you, good luck on your last final!

So as far as my planning goes the August hrs. didn't really change much other than on Mon. August 10th We'll be going to Epcot during the day, coming back to the hotel for a quick rest, and then heading back to Epcot to do some quick things in Future World and then maybe walk around World Showcase for a little bit. Then on Tues. August 11th we'll go to HS during the day coming back to the room for a quick rest again and then going back to HS to see Fantasmic. I had to change those two days because of the scheduling for Fantasmic but that's ok, still works out just the days are a bit different. So that's it for now.

Disney Trivia of the Day

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh/Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

During the Winnie the Pooh ride when you're going through Pooh's Heffalump/Woozle nightmare the building blocks spell out H-U-N-N-E-Y when the rest of the ride (as well as the stories) spell it hunny.

Fans of Mr. Toad can still see their lovable green friend hidden away in the cheerful Pooh attraction. He can be seen handing over the deed to the property on the left wall of the scene in Owl's house - one of the first scenes in the new ride. And, in a final gesture of remembrance, Cast Members in the Magic Kingdom have named one of their break rooms the "J. Thaddeus Toad Memorial Room."

(I so miss Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, I liked it. Plus in one of the parts there's a sign that says Madame Sara, which is my name, spelled correctly. No one seems to know how to spell my name they always put an h on the end so when I saw this I was sooo excited. We ended up getting a picture of it (oops, didn't think about the no pic rule on rides ) and it ended up being the last time we rode it because they closed it before we came back the next year)

I miss Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, too! Ichabod and Mr. Toad is one of my favorite Disney films, so I was sad to see the ride go. Not that I don't love Winnie the Pooh, though. I'll have to remember to include that thing that I bought during my trip in my TR because it so reminded me of your PTR. Mystery, mystery...

They haven't put up the August stuff yet, but I used this section of the main DIS site to get information about parades, shows, etc. (http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/hours.htm) I'll warn you though, it wasn't 100% accurate. They said that there was no showing of SpectroMagic on my birthday, so we didn't plan to stay in the park and see it. Then when we got to WDW and got their official park events handout, we saw that it was actually scheduled for that night and Wishes was moved to later at night. Maybe they didn't officially decide to put the parade on until closer to the actual date. :confused3 But for the most part, the information on the website has been pretty reliable.

Hope your finals all go well! I've finished two, and my brain is already wanting a break. I've only got two left and a paper to finish and hand in. I just keep telling myself, in less than two days the semester will be finished!! :yay:

Thanks. I actually found some info on the shows from another post on the DIS, not sure if it's completely true but it seems like it could work so I'll take that for now. Pretty much my plans stayed the same, the hours or the extra magic hours didn't change that much from last year so I actually had most of it planned already. I actually got the info from that site when I first started planning so I'm gonna check it out a little closer to when I leave. But thanks for letting me know! Good luck with the rest of your school stuff. Yep just keep telling yourself it will be over soon and then a couple months of blissful nonschool!!! :rotfl:

Thanks for coming over!!! Haha that would be a great idea for a thread! When I first started planning my dbf asked me what would happen if he didn't like disney and I just kinda gave him a really weird look and said of course you'll like disney. It was really weird like there was even an option that he wouldn't like disney! I still haven't gotten any ideas how to make them love disney but the other day when I was looking at pictures of AKL (I would love to stay there again but soooo not in my budget right now) I asked him if he wanted to look at them and when we got to the end of them he asked "Is that all of them, are there any more" :scared1: It was great!!! I thought, hmmmm maybe he's coming around!!! As far as my flight stuff is going, everything's figured out for now, we have all of our flights and seat assignments but I keep checking them on the website!

I'm not a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh but I do like the ride and I love looking at the pages of the book, I remember them from when I was a kid!!! haha, yeah I'm pretty sure if was with flash, oops, oh well, it was a few years ago. :)

Just wanted to let everyone know...I'm done with my finals!!!!! Had my last one yesterday and then we all went out to celebrate!!!!! Had to take off today from work to recuperate. :rotfl: Next week is pinning and graduation!!!! :cool1:

Disney Trivia of the Day

Mickey's Toontown Fair

Near the front door of Mickey's Country House, you can see letters on the table from some of his pen pals like Peter Pan (who sent Mickey a large package), Buzz Lightyear (his return address is "Infinity and Beyond"), Ariel (send her mail "Under the Sea"), and Wendy (from Peter Pan, who seems to be writing from "Hook's Room).

Professor Ludwig von Drake of the "Old Duck and the Sea Enterprises" drew the map of the Quack Sea, Mount Quackmore, the inlets, islands, and way to Toontown Fair, located inside Donald's Boat.

Look at the vegetables in Goofy's farm - the squash are flattened out and the bell peppers are shaped like real bells! Get it? "squash"? "Bell" peppers?

Mickey's license plate reads "2N-TWN-FR" - Get it? 2N-TWN-FR? (Toon Town Fair)

If you look inside Mickey's garage, you can find another license plate hanging on the wall that reads: "MIK MIN."

The statue in front of "Cornelius Coot's County Bounty" and the "Hall of Fame" is that of the town's founder, Cornelius Coot. The scroll at his feet reads:
"This is old Cornelius Coot
Who Turned His Corn Crop Into Loot
And Founded Mickey's Toontown Fair
To Him We Dedicate This Square"

Minnie is one busy lady. I mean, mouse. In addition to being the editor of Minnie's Cartoon Country Living Magazine, she also quilts, paints, and gardens. Her home office is full of recipes and photos for the magazine, and her computer screen shows that she is typing the "Letter From the Editor." In her kitchen, you can see that she has been quite busy canning and baking for the Backyard Fair. And we all know she's a good cook - just look at the blue ribbons and other awards she has won for her many entries. If you think there's not much to do in her house, here's a few little "secrets" for you - Be sure to check her messages on the answering machine, turn on the microwave to pop some popcorn, turn on the dials on the stove - this will make the coffee pot perk and the utensils hanging above the stove to dance to the music, and if you want to cool off, open Minnie's refrigerator door to feel a chilling blast of air!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Liberty Square

The Liberty Square Christmas Shop in the Magic Kingdom is designed to look like three separate shops with the walls opened between them. They are supposed to be owned by three different colonial families - a German family, a woodcarver's family, and a musician's family.

The big tree in Liberty Square used to be somewhere else on property. Walt saw it and said he wanted that tree to be his Liberty. Even after he died they dug the tree up and moved it by truck to the MK. On the way it fell off and several limbs on the right side were broken. If you look you can see where the limbs were grafted back on.

The 13 lanterns hanging from the majestic oak Liberty Tree represent the first 13 colonies of the United States. Located across from the Hall of Presidents, The Liberty Tree commemorates the communal meeting place of the Sons of Liberty who in 1865 protested the imposition of the Stamp Act.

Oh for a little more disney planning stuff, my dbf got some clothes for disney yesterday, he seems to actually be getting into it today I came in and he was wearing one of the outfits and sandals!!! I never thought he'd wear sandals, if you knew him you'd know this is a big deal! So he got a whole bunch of shorts and a few t-shirts to wear. If not then I figure we'll probably finish eating in an hour, we're not real slow eaters (well I am but he isn't) so if we can get done by 8:50 we should be good. We'll run over to that middle part where the big path to future world is and hopefully squeeze ourselves in there and get there just in time to see Illuminations. I think it'll work (ok so I'm gonna make it work no matter what!!!) I really really really want to see Illuminations on the last night we're there, for some reason I think it's my favorite show, it just gives me this amazing feeling. I'm thinking of calling back again in a few weeks to see if there are any earlier times. Does anyone know what that day is that people need to have their payment in? I've read here that some people can't finish their payment and then have to cancel their trip (so sad :sad1: but I am sooo taking advantage of that, does that make me a bad person?) and since they can't go their times for dinner open up, does anyone know what I'm talking about and can give me the day? Thanks!!!! So right now I'm happy cause we're eating at LeCellier and everything is planned and going perfectly! I've decided today that I think I'm gonna try to scan some of my old pictures to post here so keep looking cause their be up soon! And onto our last thing....

Disney Trivia of the Day

The Haunted Mansion

Ok so I'm not even sure if some of these are correct since the change I can't remember but if they're not true then it's a good walk down memory lane!

After you pass through the Haunted Mansion's library, you are presented with an eerie piano, apparently playing by itself. However, if you look at the floor in front of it, you will see the shadow of a wretched ghost playing the haunting tune. In front of the piano on the floor is the piano stool, and three sheets of music. A close inspection of the music reveals that that one of the sheets contains staff lines, but no notes, meaning the poor composer never lived to complete his work, and is doomed to haunt the mansion until it is finished. The piano itself is an original, built by the Schomacker Piano Co. out of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . The piano is believed to have been built somewhere between 1870 and 1890.

There are two books on the table with the lamp as you prepare to leave the library of the Haunted Mansion. They are separate volumes from "The National Encyclopedia" and the open book is open to the "D" section so that the entry for "Death" is shown.

The little ghost with the ball and chain is Gus, while the tall, skinny skeleton is Ezra. Their hunched-over friend with the top hat is Phineas. According to (Cast Member) legend, Ezra Dobbins and Phineas Queeg were friends of one of Gus Gracey, having been cellmates at the Salem Asylum for the Criminally Insane. After planning their escape, the three tried hitchhiking down the road. After meeting their demise separately, Madame Leota cast a spell banishing Gus to the Mansion for eternity. However, she eventually took pity on him and summoned his old friends to keep him company, where they continue to hitchhike to this day.

Most of the library is actually fake - Other than the top three shelves of real books, some of which slide in and out, the rest of the books in the library are actually painted images! Some of the real books in the library include a dictionary and a number of legal titles, including "Corpus Juris" (which means "body of law"), and "Modern Legal Forms." According to the blueprints for the Haunted Mansion , this room was painted by R.L. Grosh and Sons, Inc., who has painted numerous Hollywood sets.

If you're passing the Haunted Mansion at night, look up above the door to the top floor of the house, and you might just see two shadows walking by holding a lantern. I've seen this one!!!

If you look closely at the "real" front door to the Haunted Mansion (not where guests enter the attraction), you will notice that the the two columns along side the door are actually shaped like coffins!

Right after you come out of the HM there is a pet cemetery, which I'm sure you all know about, in the far left corner of it there is the statue of Mr. Toad from the original ride. It's pretty cool. So i guess Mr. Toad is still in the parks.

Stick around after the preshow in Haunted Mansion to hear the whispering voices at the end of the stretching room.

Since I have so many for the Haunted Mansion (I really like it and there's so much cool stuff about it I'm going to continue it in another post)

X. Atencio. (The "X" standing for Xavier.) He joined the Disney Studio in 1938 and worked on numerous animated features through the 1950s. He was the person behind the clever animated title sequences from The Parent Trap and Babes in Toyland. In 1964, Walt Disney asked Atencio to transfer to WED Enterprises to assist in the creation of the Primeval World diorama for Disneyland. He went on to develop dialog and music for attractions such as Adventure Thru Inner Space, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion for which he co-wrote the song Grim Grinning Ghosts. But most importantly, he is the one who penned nearly all the clever verses featured on the now infamous 13 tombstones that make up the family plot at Walt Disney World's Haunted Mansion.
DEAR SWEET LEOTA
BELOVED BY ALL

BUT HAVING A BALL

As most Haunted Mansion enthusiasts know, Madam Leota is the Mansion's resident medium. Leota Tombs was an artist at WED Enterprises. During the Mansion's development, Tombs served as a model stand-in during concept testing for the crystal ball character in the attraction's seance room. She did such an excellent job that the test performance was used in the final version, and the character was named in her honor.

In 1961 he came to WED Enterprises as a special effects and lighting artist. His expertise in the field of special effects was gained via his own personal research and hands-on experimentation. He was responsible for nearly all the special effects in the Haunted Mansion.

While working at 20th Century Fox in the mid-1950s, Bill "Bud"Martin was recruited by Walt Disney to help in the design and building of Disneyland. His first major area of responsibility was as an art director of Fantasyland. In 1971, he was named Vice President of Design at WED Enterprises, overseeing the master layout of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Among his projects were Main Street U.S.A. and Cinderella Castle, and he was one of the key designers of the ultilidors than run beneath that park.

One of Disney's legendary "Nine Old Men"of animation, Marc Davis also stands as one of the most influential and creative forces in the history of theme park design. His clever and highly detailed concepts were the basis for the audio-animatronic vignettes of both Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, and his unrealized designs for Walt Disney World's Western River Expedition are among the great lost treasures of Disney Imagineering. He also contributed to other celebrated attractions including the Enchanted Tiki Room, the Jungle Cruise and It's a Small World.

Wathel Rogers was a long time veteran of the Animation Department before moving to WED Enterprises in the mid-1950s. Initially part of the model department, Rogers' true calling emerged when Wat Disney drafted him for his now famous "Project LittleMan" which was the genesis of the development of audio-animatronics. Within the halls of WED Enterprises, he became known as Mr. Audio-Animatronics and went on to contribute his design and engineering skills to countless theme park attractions until his retirement in 1987.

Fred Joerger joined the Walt Disney Studios in 1953, coming on board as a set designer and model builder. He, Harriet Burns and Wathel Rogers were the members of WED Enterprises original model shop. He was a master of rock formations, as noted in this passage from his Disney Legends biography:

"Fred's unusual knack for creating gorgeous rockwork out of plaster led to his reputation as Imagineering's "resident rock expert." Among his rocky mountain highlights are the huge stones featured on the Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. In fact, he designed and constructed most all rockwork at the Florida theme park for its 1971 opening, including the breathtaking atrium waterfall featured in the Polynesian Resort."

Brother Claude refers to Walt Disney Studios animation veteran and pioneering Imagineer Claude Coats. He began his career with Disney in 1935 as a background painter, and contributed stunning water color backgrounds to numerous cartoon shorts and also to feature films from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs all the way through Lady and the Tramp. In 1955, Walt Disney recruited Coats to work on concepts and designs for Disneyland, and he subsequently became one of the key talents at WED Enterprises, the precursor to Walt Disney Imagineering.

Bringing his background artist skills to bear, Coats was largely responsible for designing the Haunted Mansion's interior environments.

And in Honor of my DBF...

There are six hidden "jacks" from nightmare as a homage to the DL version. Two are in the library near the table, the other four are in the attic. The easiest one to see is under the second husband's portrait (first one on the left), Jack is on the cover of the book on the floor.

Thanks! You'll like it, I think the food's pretty good and we always have fun there, course that could be the people we're with. The one time we went there it's was my family and two of my mom's friends who are absolutly hilarious. Well we got the chocolate "moose" for dessert and it was shaped like a moose. Well my mom's one friend kinda mutilated her's but it still kinda looked like a moose so we started sticking things in it (yeah I know we're so mature but I must say my brother and I were younger and it was my mom's two "adult" (and I say "adult" not because they were old but because they are the most immature out of all of us!) friends who started it) and we stuck some straws in it. Well we laughed about that forever. I'm not sure why it was so funny, someone probably said something funny. Well my mom's friend named it Fred. So for the rest of the trip we would see straw wrappers or straws on the ground and we would make fun of her and say "Hey there's Fred! Oh dear it looks like something happened to him. Poor Fred." It might not seem funny now but it was hilarious at the time. Just one of my stories from Disney! Ok so onto...

Test Track

Did you know that in Test Track when you nearly collide with the tractor trailer, the "driver" of the trailer is a cardboard cutout of Lyndon B Johnson? He is wearing sunglasses and a hat but if you look carefully when the lights turn on you can see him.

Test Track vehicles have three onboard computers that have more processing power than the space shuttle.

It's really hard to see. It took me a few times to actually make sure this was real. It's a little bit easier to see it when you go on the side of the truck, cause then the lights don't blind you.

Ok so I'll give you a little report on my pinning.

Here is the stage.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1397.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1396.jpg

It started out with us all walking into the gym, all of us in our white scrubs. Here's a picture of me walking in (I'm the one with the longer hair, the second one in the picture)

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_14012-1-1.jpg

After we sat down they started off with some speakers. First was the Chancellor of the school. Next we had a welcom by our SNA president and one of our former instructors wrote a speech that was read. Finally we got to the pinning. We didn't actually get "pinned" they put the pins on ribbons to put around our necks because it's too hard to pin all of those people. I liked it that way. Here is a picture of me getting pinned. The lady whose pinning me is in charge of the nursing department.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1402.jpg

Here is a picture of the pin on the ribbon. That's my kitty's head in the background!

Here's a close up of the pin.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN1067.jpg

Of course while I was going up my brother had to be the loudest person in the room! While we were walking up to the stage they read thank yous that we wrote. So they read a thank you I wrote to my family. It was really sweet. Two of my classmates were a mother and daughter. So the mother got pinned first and then pinned her daughter (only RNs can pin you). It was so sweet, I started to cry! Two more of my classmates were sisters and again the one got pinned first and then pinned the other. Oh my gosh did I cry! And of course these two people were right before and right after me so I'm sure I looked aweful with my eyes all red and teary. After we all got pinned we all lite candles and recited the nursing pledge and then two girls from the chorus (I think) sang Hallelujah from Shrek. It was very pretty. So after all of the bawling we had a picture presentation. A slideshow of a bunch of pictures from the past two years was presented. Some of them were so funny!!! They gave us each a copy of the slideshow which I thought was just great! Next a former classmate came and spoke. This amazing girl was our SNA president during our first year. She had cancer but was in remission for a while, well she relapsed and had to take a leave of absence. I cried when she spoke because she is just a wonderful girl and so strong. She is amazing. The pinning was now over and we walked out. Here's a picture of me walking out.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1403.jpg

It was a great ceremony and very touching. It's so sad that I'm not going to see everyone in class anymore. It was def. bittersweet. After the ceremony we took some pictures. Here is one of me, my mom and dad, my brother, my grandmother, and my uncle.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1410.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_14092-1-1.jpg

Here are the flowers my dad gave me (I'm a daddy's girl and he always gets me flowers for things, it's something special that he does for me)
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN1073-1.jpg

And my mom gave me an angel statue, it's the Angel of Nurses. On the little tag it says "Nurses are angels on earth that heal the hearts of others." I cried when I got it because she gave me a note inside that said "A long time from now when I'm not here, may this angel protect you and guide you as you help heal others. Love Mom." I'm tearing up now as I write this. My mom has been my inspiration my whole life. She is a wonderful woman and I cannot say enough to thank her. Here is a picture of the statue.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN1075-1.jpg

So after that we went out to dinner. Later I met up with some of my fellow nurses (I can say that now!!!!) and we went out for a little celebration of our own!! The night was great. The weather was wonderful, the ceremony was beautiful, and we had a lot of fun afterwards!

Today I went out to find a dress for my graduation. It's tomorrow and I realized today that I didn't have anything to wear under my gown. So I went out with my mom to find a dress and I did. Here's a picture of it. (Please excuse the clothes behind it)

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN1078-1.jpg

I also got shoes to go with it.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/DSCN1079.jpg

So that's it for now. I had a very good day yesterday and tomorrow looks to be a good one as well. Tomorrow's my graduation so there should be a report on that this weekend!

Oh my gosh I almost forgot...I finished my paying off my trip! We are all payed up! I'm so excited!

Oooo that's so great. You'll love staying onsite! Hoop De Doo is so much fun. We went a few years ago and they picked my dad to be in it. I don't want to ruin it for you if you haven't seen it before but let's just say that it wasn't a very masculine part and we have pictures to prove it! :rotfl: How long are you staying, sorry I can't remember. Yeah that's what I'm trying to do, plan as much as I can so everything goes perfectly. Course I'm an obsessive planner so it's not like it's hard for me :) Ooo I wish mine would ask to watch it. We haven't watched it yet and I'm debating whether or not to wait until a few days before we go or watch it now. He did want to look at pictures of disney the other day so I guess that counts for something and he did agree to go shopping with me for clothes for disney and he hates shopping so I guess I'm getting through to him. :lmao: I think he'll end up really liking it I can't believe he won't!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Canada

The "Hotel du Canada" is the towering landmark that leads guests into the Canada pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase. The distinctive building is modeled after the French Gothic design of the 19th-Century "Chateau Laurier," located in Canada 's capital city of Ottowa . It is another example of "forced perspective," in that although it looks six stories high, it is actually only three. The building was designed to represent the entire nation of Canada , as the top portion of the building represents French Canada, while the lower half is patterned after the hotels built around the turn of the century by the Canadian railroad as it pushed west toward the Rockies . The building is home to "La Boutique Des Provinces," a small shop with handcrafted items from Canadian artists, as well as pewter and decoupage (The art of cutting out pictures and pasting them on furniture or home accessories to simulate painting). The entire Canada pavilion in World Showcase features architecture and landscaping found throughout the nation.

I told him I wanted that at my wedding and he said sure. I was a little confused and he asked do you want to get married at Disney? And of course I said yes so he said "Then we'll get married at Disney" OMG!!!!!! He said we could get married at Disney!!! I'm so excited, of course that won't be for quite a while but the idea is there! When you enter the main building in the pavilion, look for the 9 stones embedded into the floor - this exact number of stones was placed here, as the Chinese consider 9 to be a lucky number.

If you look at the number of columns surrounding the outer room, you should count twelve. This number represents the number of months in a year and the number of years in a full cycle of the Chinese calendar.

The pair of banners that hang at the entrance to the pavilion offer you good wishes, in the hopes that: "May good fortune follow you on your path through life" and "May virtue be your neighbor."

Thanks!!! I'm def. thinking about trying it. I'm not a big soup person but I do like soups that have cheese in them so I def. think I should try this one plus I've heard good things about it too. I'll let you guys know how it is once I get back! I wanted to update you guys on my graduation but unfortunately all the pictures are on my mom's camera and I'm at dbf's apartment and won't be able to get them until Sunday or Monday so I'll post that then. Oh and I think dbf is getting more into disney, he was sitting next to me as I was looking at some other posts and there was a picture of someone getting married with Cinderella's carriage behind them and he noticed it. I think he's becoming excited about our trip!!! hey if he said we could get married there then of course he's going to like it!!!!

And you were worried!

And I totally agree with you on the soups. I don't eat many soups either, and I prefer them to be more brothy. New England clam chowder is usually the most texture variety that I like in soup. But if it's a soup made from cheese, count me in!! :yay:

Hey guys, I'm gonna try and get the pictures up from my graduation and let you guys know how it goes. I'm just really exhausted right now. I didn't sleep well last night, didn't get to sleep until 2 and then kept tossing and turning until I had to get up at 6:45, so I got like 3 hours of sleep total and it wasn't all at once so I'm quite tired. I def. don't function well on 3 hours of sleep! After I got up I had to go to an NCLEX review (NCLEX is the exam to get my actual license to be an RN and I'm completely scared I'm going to fail it!) from 8 until 4:30 and let me tell you for just sitting there it was exhausting! My brain hurts!! And I get to do it again for the next 3 days. I'm gonna try and get the graduation stuff up later tonight but I may fall asleep. But I hope everyone is doing well! Here's a little disney trivia for now!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Germany

In Germany, the stores are designed to be architecturally different rooms in a house. Each room is themed according to the merchandise sold inside. Wine sold in the "wine cellar," food is sold in the wood-floored "kitchen," works of art are sold out of the "attic," and Christmas decorations can be purchased in the warm and comfortable "living room."

Perched atop a fountain in the center of the St. George's Platz (plaza) in the Germany pavilion is St. George. Riding his steed, he is immortalized slaying a dragon. St. George is known as the patron saint of soldiers, chivalry and Germany , and monuments to him are common throughout Bavaria .

At the courtyard in Germany if you look up towards the back there is a clock. If you are there around the hour, it will ring and a German boy and girl will come out ( they are made our of wood, they are not real) and twirl around. Sometimes the clock is a little off on the time and you have to wait a few minutes.

Ok so I managed to stay up so far so I figured I'd give a little mini report on my graduation. So here goes.

Let me just say it was incredibly hot! I got there early and took some pictures in front of the lion (for those of you who don't know penn state the lion is the mascot and my mom is big on taking pictures in front of it) It was hot and stupid me didn't eat anything all day so I was a little bit grumpy but we did get our pictures done. My dbf was there, he was able to take the night off of work!!! I was excited, he wasn't able to make it to my pinning so I was glad he came to my graduation. Here are some pictures in front of the lion!

Just a picture of the lion alone
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1412.jpg

Here's my crazy brother riding the lion :rotfl:

So after the billions of pictures we headed down to the gym where the graduation was. Well of course I was ridiculously early and I met up with one of my friends. Well those graduation gowns are hot too so we were waiting for them to line up and we were just searching for shade. I don't mean to complain about the heat, it's much better than it being cold and rainy, it was just really hot! I'm ok with heat, I think I was just grumpy from not eating. So finally it was time to line up to walk in and we got all of our instructions on what to do. Yay time to walk for graduation!!! As we're walking in their playing the traditional graduation song, ya know pomp and circumstance. We get to our seats and graduation starts. They had the first class that graduated at my campus come back for this graduation because it was the 40th anniversary of the campus. I thought that was so nice and special for us. They first started out with a welcome by the chancellor of the school and then they introduced the main speaker. To be honest I have no idea who he was (isn't that so bad but the way the campus is set up the nursing students are tucked away in their own building and I really don't know a whole lot of the faculty) So the address was given by the guy who I think was in charge of the library. He had been working there since like the first year the campus opened. So that was kinda cool. I don't want to be horrible but it was so not as exciting and emotional as my pinning. I think because my pinning was with people who I've been with for the the past 2 years and have gotten really close and this time it was more distant. It was still fun and of course I loved going! The nursing students were almost at the end of the list and finally it was our turn to line up to actually get called up to get our diplomas. It was really great to finally feel like I graduated. So we got our diplomas and the chorus sang a song and I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. So finally after a few more shorter speeches we walked out. I graduated!!!!! I was finally a college graduate! Here are some pictures from the graduation.

A picture of some of the nursing students, I'm in there somewhere, can you find me?
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1423.jpg

A picture of us lining up to get called up on stage to get our diplomas
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1424.jpg

Ok so this is actually a picture of me walking across the stage but my lovely mom only got the back of my head, oh well, the lady in the picture is in charge of the nursing department
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1425.jpg

Ok so I'm really not sure what's going on here the only thing I can attribute this too is that my mom loves taking back pictures, ya know pictures of people turned around, she loves it! I'm in there again but I don't think I even know which one I am!!! :rotfl:
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1426.jpg

This is me walking out. I love this picture of me and I don't usually like pics of me so this one must be good! It's really funny cause I was walking out after the graduation was over and my mom said my name and I just turned and she kinda surprised me with that picture but I guess I was just so happy that it ended up being a really good picture
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1428.jpg

So graduation was over and I couldn't find my family. There were absolutely like the last ones out of the gym! Oh well they made it! I was now pinned and graduated. What to do now, well of course take more pictures! So here's one of me with my diploma.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1429.jpg

Another of my brother and me. He surprised me with this one, he came up to me and wanted a picture, it was cute.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1430.jpg

Here's one of me and my friends, Jill and Cecelia
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1431.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/IMG_1432.jpg

And finally the pictures ended. So by this time I was starving! (Remember haven't eaten all day). So we went out for a quick bit to eat and I got cards from my parents, grandmother, and brother. My brother's was so sweet. He said some really nice things in the card and it was to his little big sister. I don't know if I mentioned but I call my brother my big little brother because he is younger to me but about 6ft tall and I'm older than he is but about 5ft2. It was really cute. Well after we ate my family and I departed and I went out to celebrate with my friends again. Well for some reason we weren't really feeling the whole bar thing that night so we ended up only going to a few and not really drinking. At about 2:30 in the morning we decided to go to Perkins because we wanted breakefast. So we had our breakfast and my friend Cecelia was driving us back to our cars and we were going to drop my friend Jill off and ended talking until 5:00 in the morning!! :scared1: It was getting light out by the time we parted ways. When Jill opened the door I yelled out "It smells like morning!" Now I figured they would look at me like I was crazy and just laugh but they got out of the car and said "Oh my god it does, I love it!" OMG, people who are crazy like me! Well we parted ways, it was sad because we wouldn't be in class with each other any more and Jill lives a little ways away so we wouldn't see her as often anymore. (It turns out we'll see her on thurs. this week but that's besides the point! ;)) I finally got to Ian's apt and it was about 5:40. I was exhausted but I had such a fun night. So overall I had a great amazing graduation day/night!

Oh I just had to tell you guys. Cecelia was telling me later that when she got home her diploma was mounted in a frame that she wanted. Now her dad works at penn state and actually gave her her diploma which was so sweet. But she couldn't figure out how he had gotten her diploma in there because as far as she knew she was still holding her diploma. Well her dad had made a photocopy of the diploma (shhh you're not supposed to do that) and put that in the envelope that was actually presented to us and took the actualy diploma and had it all ready in the frame! Isn't that just the sweetest thing. It almost made me cry! Another thing that made me cry was after our graduation and we were standing outside taking pictures and just relaxing after the ceremony Cecelia came up to Jill and me and gave us a gift, inside was a really cute photo album and a little box. Inside the box was a pin that was engraved: Sara Pedley, RN. Oh my god! I def. started to tear up, it was so thoughtful! So that's my graduation adventure. I don't have anything else big coming up but I'll let you guys know if anything exciting happens and of course I'll be continuing my disney trivia and updating with anything disney!

It looks like you had an awesome graduation! And I know what you mean about not eating anything beforehand, I did the same thing when I graduated from high school. My school was the first of about seven or eight in the venue, and it was like 8:30am when our ceremony started. I'm not really a big breakfast eater, so I didn't have more than a glass of coffee and a banana that morning, which I definitely regretted later!

Congratulations on finishing college! And good luck with the NCLEX review!

I'm here. Followed you over from my PTR.

Congrats again on your nursing career!!!

You are going to love Pop. I just love the vibrant colors and the feel of the place. I would like to go back, but DS likes to try a new place each trip, and it is fun to see the different resorts.

Cant wait to hear more.

thanks! Yeah I'm not really happy when I don't eat, never really noticed before but I was so much happier after we had dinner! Wow that is a long day for your graduation, mine wasn't nearly that bad! Another long day at the review, my brain hurts. It's like trying to fit 2 years of nursing school into 4 days, not so much fun but I think it'll help me in the long run.

Thanks for coming over and thanks for the congrats! Pop just seems like so much fun, it's really colorful and I think it'll help dbf getting into the disney spirit. I like trying new places and would love to stay at every resort like your DS! Oh since you took the NCLEX (I'm assuming!) how did it go for you?

Oh and I have to tell you guys I'm going shopping with my mom in a little bit so hopefully I'll get some new clothes for disney (that's my goal but we'll see how well I can con my mom into getting them for me! I'm so spoiled!)

I'm so excited for you, Sara! Your trip is getting so close! And  for clothes shopping!! I totally need to do the same! Next month, my family and I are going to Hawaii for the first time (well, my parents have been before, but not my sister and I) and I need to get some stuff to wear! I'm mainly a t-shirt and jeans girl, even in the summertime. Where are you and your mom going shopping?

Your PTR is helping to motivate me to update my TR!

Been a long time since I took the NCLEX (1995) (yeah, no old jokes) But, it was online at the time (yes we had computers). I got one of the NCLEX review books and some NCLEX flash cards and thats all I studied. I also think it helps to take it soon after school so you are still familiar with stuff. Many of the questions came directly from my review book or flashcards, I was amazed not even one word was different.

It will be fine-just make sure to review. :thumbsup2

Haha I didn't even realize that until you mentioned it! That's so something I would do! I want to go to Hawaii! I've never been, have fun! You better let us know how it went when you get back and lots of pictures! yeah I def. wear jeans all the time, I'm not a shorts or skirt kinda girl but I do wear shorts in Florida cause it's just too darn hot! I ended up getting a few shirts and some shorts, I'll post pictures tomorrow, too tired to get out of bed and take them now! (I'm soooo lazy!) We ended up going to Kohl's mostly. I love that store!!! Every time I go I find a ton of stuff! Yay for updating, I was actually just thinking about your TR and wondering if I missed an update, guess I'll have to run over and read it!

I'm jealous!!! Happy shopping :goodvibes

Haha, no jokes here. I only make fun of my dad for being old (we always tease each other!) Yeah I know you take it on a computer and it's in a certain location that apparently is rediculously secure, like we get fingerprinted when we arrive and if we leave the room during the test we get fingerprinted when we come back. They also have cameras and stuff watching us, it's kinda creepy actually! I have two NCLEX books now and have been going over questions and I'm taking a review course now so hopefully that helps. I'm taking it as soon as I can. I'm just waiting for my ATT(I think that's what it's called) so I can schedule it. I know if I wait too long I'll forget everything! That's really weird that the questions were exactly the same. It won't be like that for me cause that would be too lucky, I am not lucky! Thanks for the help!

Oooo! That would be amazing. (If you have the time and want to) I'm so excited to see everything, I'm def. taking time to walk around. I really want to make sure I walk around during the day and at night because it seems like it's so different between when it's light out and when it's dark.

I'm so excited. Dbf seems like he's getting more excited, he's not as annoyed when I start talking about disney and the stuff we're going to do. Oh and he decided he wanted to wait until like a week or so before we go to watch the planning dvd so we can get in the disney spirit (ok so he didn't use the phrase "disney spirit" but that was the general idea) So it seems like everything is working out just fine!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Italy

Located in the central plaza of the Italy pavilion, known as the "Plaza del Teatro," you can find the "Fontana de Nettuno." This fountain contains the image of Neptune, the God of the Sea, and was inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's Fountain of Trevi, located in Rome, Italy. The original famous fountain is often recognized as having been seen in Federico Fellini's classic film, "La Dolce Vita."

One of the statues on top of the columns at the square's entrance shows Theodore and the Dragon. The other statue is of the Lion of St Mark, protector of the city of Venice.

One of the globes held by an old man in the carvings around the columns in the Italy Pavilion has three holes in it. Rumor has it, one of the Imagineers had a passion for bowling.

'K I gotta go shopping with you some time! I always pick out plain stuff - solid tees, jeans, solid pants, etc. - thinking that I'll find these fabulous accessories to go with, and then I never shop for accessories. :confused3
You picked some cute stuff! Now we have to know the important stuff - what shoes will go with those outfits?

 For the NCLEX review! I'm sure you'll pass the 1st go! When do you start back for your BSN? Did you ever mention what your DBF was in school for? You guys make such a cute couple - he looks like a rocker-type bad boy, but I'm sure he's super nice, and you look like a good girl - it's cute! :cutie: *hums "Opposites Attract" by Paula Abdul* (yes, I'm old, shut up :P) My parents loved Kyle when they met him - they were afraid I'd met a guy with a "bone in his nose", meaning tattoos on his face, multiple facial piercings, etc. (No, Mom, tha'ts my piercer, not my BF!)

Enjoy your weekend, I'll be stuydin' up on diabetes! Oh, excuse me, I mean "thuh sugars" (that's what my MIL calls it, it's a country thing I guess.)

No kidding about the shopping! I do the same thing when I shop, just pick out basic solid-colored stuff with the intent of jazzing it up later. And then I never do, so I'm usually just in jeans and t-shirts all the time. My sister is the complete opposite. She has all these snazzy clothes and always looks cute. Maybe I should drag her shopping with me when I get some stuff for Hawaii. And count me in the group of readers who want a shoe post!! :cheer2:

When my parents first met Rob, he was lifeguarding so he was huge (as in broad), tan, buff, etc. On seeing him, my mom said she thought I'd met some crazy macho guy lol. But he turned out to be pretty normal!

Now, back to the Disney stuff!! (And hopefully shoes!) By the way Sara, I am working on a POP post for you! I didn't even realize how many pictures that I had from the resort until I started uploading them to Photobucket. I'll have to narrow it down.

haha thanks! I used to just pick the plain stuff, but I'm really bad at picking out accessories so that so did not work out for me. It's only been recently that I started picking out more patterned stuff. I really like that stuff now. Of course I love a good t-shirt and jeans too! I'm not sure about the shoes yet. I know I know, what I sin, and I love shoes but I'm also thinking I should probably cut down on bringing too many, you know with the whole flying thing, I do not want to have to pay for my luggage being too heavy! (And believe me I could do it!) I will def. let you know when I figure out what shoes, I'm thinking it'll probably be a little closer to when I leave cause I'm hoping to get a few more pairs of shorts and shirts!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, I hope I pass on the first go! I start back in the fall for my BSN. My dbf isn't going to school right now, he's not sure what he wants to do and feels that going to school is a waste of time if he doesn't know what he wants. He works in a factory that makes books now, he actually really likes it. He just recently changed from midnight shift to afternoon shift and has become much happier (Yay for me, no more grumpiness!) Haha I know we're complete opposites. He is gothic, you should see some times when he goes all out. He does seem sometimes to be very hard but he's an extremely nice guy, actually the nicest guy I've ever met! He's very sweet and basicly the complete opposite of what you would think looking at him. I love it! I'm not sure if I'm the "good girl" kind (hehe) but I do appear that way. My parents like him, he's just really quite around them, he's shy, it's cute. He actually just recently got a new tattoo and now has 2 so I guess he falls into that category that you're parents wouldn't want but my parents can't really complain about that because I have 2 tattoos as well, so that's not a big deal.
I've actually heard people call diabetes thuh sugars. I couldn't tell you where right now but I've def. heard it! I'm going to go check out the nursing thread, what a great idea!

Yeah I have friends who dress way better than me and I always want them to pick out clothes for me! :rotfl: I will get a shoe post eventually! Haha, I have a few pairs but I'm not sure what I'm going to where with what. I know what'll happen though I'll take all of these shoes and then end up wearing the same ones because I'm running late and those shoes are right there and the easiest to get! It happens all the time! :lmao: Yay I can't wait for a Pop post! Thanks so much! I'll have to show dbf, he likes looking at the pictures of stuff at disney, hey whatever he wants! Dbf is def. not a macho guy, he's incredibly skinny but also built, it's kinda wierd, but hey I think it's hot so whatever! :rotfl: :rotfl: Ever since he started working at the factory he's def. been getting some more muscles! Works out for me!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Japan

The 83-foot tall blue-roofed Goju-no-to pagoda, the icon of the Japan pavilion, is inspired by the seventh century Horyuji Shrine at Nara . The levels of the five-tiered pagoda represent the five elements from which Buddhists believe all things in the universe are produced: earth, water, fire, wind and sky. Atop the pagoda is a bronze, nine-ringed spire, known as a "sorin," with gold wind chimes and a water flame.

See, I was a BAD girl when I met Kyle. I went to tons of Ozzfests, was getting pierced left & right (or so it seemed to my parents) tatooed, hanging out at tattoo parlors, doing stuff that'd get me kicked out of nursing school if I did it now... so Mom & Dad were terrified I'd bring in something scary!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Mexico

Ok this first one isn't really disney trivia but I thought it was pretty interesting about Mexican flag (I hope it's correct, if it's not please correct me)

The Mexican flag is consists of red, white and green stripes, whose center contains an eagle eating a rattlesnake. The eagle stands with its left claw upon a cactus, and a half circle of green oak (enciño) on the left (symbolizing strength) and laurel branches on the right (symbolizing victory). The red stripe symbolizes the blood that was shed during the battles for Independence . The white stripe symbolizes the purity of the Catholic faith, while the green symbolizes the fertility of the earth. The central shield is representative of the Aztec heritage. This flag was originally created in 1821, when the Independence movement had ended victoriously. "El Día de la Bandera" or the "Fiesta of the Mexican Flag" is celebrated every February 24th.

Imagineers designed the approach to the pyramid with the lushly planted, parrot-dotted walkway on your extreme right; the idea is that you're hacking your way through the rainforest with a machete, and you stumble across a ruin.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Morocco

Because the buildings in the Morocco pavilion have great religious significance, the buildings are not highlighted by the spotlights of "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth." When Illuminations first began, however, Norway was also not illuminated, as the pavilion was incomplete at the time.

Morocco was the first country to be added after the opening of Epcot. It opened on September 7, 1984 and is the only World Showcase pavilion to have it's own government as its sponsor. The north African cities of Casablanca , Fez , and Marrakesh are represented here. The pavilion is divided into the new city (ville nouvelle) and the old city ( Medina ) by the Bab Boujouloud gate. The pavilion follows the pattern of many Moroccan cities, being divided in two. The ville nouvelle (new city) contains a replica of the Koutoubia minaret of Marrakesh, leading into a courtyard containing a replica of the Nejjarine Fountain, which in turn leads to the gated entrance of the Medina (old city).

The Chella Minaret is a Muslim prayer tower, and the keyhole windows signify that worship can open up the door to the heavens.

You won't find any patterns containing people, animals, or plants, due to the tenet that only Allah can create life.

There is a pebble, river like change in the pavement between the Morocco and France pavillions that represents the Straits of Gibralter.

Every mosaic in Morocco has a flaw, because only God is perfect.

Disney Trivia of the Day

U.S.A.

As guests proceed into the theater, they pass through the "Hall of Flags." In here is a collection of the flags that have flown over the United States in all of its forms, including flags from the Revolutionary War, Colonial period, as well as foreign flags that once had claim to the land. There are a total of 44 flags in all.

Representing the "Spirits of America" are 12 life-sized statues on either sides of the theater. On the left side, the statues from front to back, are: Individualism, Innovation, Tomorrow, Independence , Compassion, and Discovery . On the right hand side, from front to back, are: Freedom, Heritage, Pioneering, Knowledge, Self-Reliance, and Adventure. The cowboy, representing the "Spirit of Individualism," is the first statue closest to the stage, on the left side of the theater.

If you notice the flag flying above in America over the Liberty building the flag is not a flag. It is a banner. That is why it does not need to follow the rules of American Flag hanging.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Norway

The Stave Church found in the Norway pavilion is a smaller, detailed replica of the Gol Stave Church , located in the Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo, Norway . The church contains a fascinating exhibit on Norwegian culture and the history of the Stave Churches. It is probably the most visited Stave Church in the world. The stave church dates back to 1015, when King Olaf II first made Christianity the official religion of Norway, and you can see both Viking and Christian symbols in the architecture.

Nine-time New York City Marathon winner Greta Waitz, the only woman to win more than two New York Marathons, is immortalized in a statute located on the grounds of the Norway pavilion. The Greta Waitz Lopet (road race), the largest run for women in the world, is held annually in her home country of Norway .

Disney Trivia of the Day

United Kingdom

Be sure to take some time and walk through the beautiful Butterfly and Knot Herb garden located in the spectacular United Kingdom pavilion behind the Tea Caddy shop. The plants located in the garden were specifically chosen as they attract butterflies. It also contains a chrysalis box, where butterfly cocoons are sheltered until they are ready to take flight. Also be sure to check out the hedge maze located nearby!

A replica of Hampton Court Palace is featured, along with Anne Hataway's thatched cottage, Hyde Park, Yorkshire & Regency buildings.

The Rose and Crown bears the Latin motto 'Otium Cum Dignitate' ('Leisure with dignity')

Disney Trivia of the Day

France

An area of the pavement in between the France and Morocco pavilion is painted a different color than the rest of the dark-red ground. Why? This color change is supposed to look like a little river, representing the Straits of Gibraltar, which divides Europe and Africa - the continents which are home to France and Morocco respectively.

Featured are a replica of Les Halles, a once-beloved Parisian market, and a replica of Pont des Arts, a footbridge that once led from the Louvre to the quais of the Left Bank.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Gertie the Dinosaur

In MGM there is a hidden attractiion, it is Gertie the Dinosaur. She is a tribute to the vaudeville actor and artist Windsor Mackay. About 1912 he decided to spice up his act with a cartoon of a railroad, projected on the screen, and he would interact with it. The audienes thought that this was trick photography. He then decided to come up with Dinosaur Gertie. This was before the concept of the multiplane camera or even cells. He made about 14,400 drawings on rice paper. Each one not only had Gertie drawn on it, but also had the background screnery (Silent movies had 16 frames per second and this ran anbout 15 minutes or 900 seconds). He started this act in 1915, the audiences recognized at this point that Gertie was a cartoon and could not be trick photgraphy. This was the first recognized projected cartoon. Many years later, Walt Disney met Windsor's son. The son was very happy to met Walt, but Walt was even happier to meet him. Walt told the son that "I owe everything I have done to the idea started by your father". There is a small sign near Gertie in the park, but it does not go into this detail.

I always mean to print out the trivia I have and take it to the parks but I always forget right before the trip. Of course it is about 52 pages long so maybe that's not really efficient and I keep adding trivia to it but hey maybe one day. I do use it for my countdown calendar. Disney Trivia of the Day

The Great Movie Ride

During the Wizard of Oz sequence of the Great Movie Ride, if you look closely at Dorothy's house, you will see the striped socks of the Wicked Witch sticking out from under the bottom. Hanging nearby is her Certificate of Death. Ding Dong, that witch is toast!

In the Great Movie Ride, look for a "Hidden Donald" in the hieroglyphics of the Raiders of the Lost Ark scene having lunch with Mickey Mouse. (Look fast, it is on the last stone pillar on the left). Other hidden characters in this scene are C-3PO and R2-D2, from "Star Wars."

On the Great Movie Ride there are some really great hidden mickeys. There is a hidden mickey foot under a poster as you come up on the gangster scene and when you stop for the gangster if you look up and to the left you can see mickey's profile in a high window.

So just wanted to tell you guys a little about the show I saw last night. The group is called Rain A Tribute to the Beatles. They were really good and very amazing musicians. They did not allow photography so I'm going to post a few pictures I found online. Sorry they're not mine but they'll give you guys some idea of what was going on.

First they have the stage all set up for them to play and then they have two big screens set up on either side of the stage. The first section of the show is them on the Ed Sullivan Show. It was really fun, they showed Rain (acting as the beatles) giving interviews and instead of showing pictures of the beatles they had pictures of the members of Rain in those same pictures. Here's an example of what I mean.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/imit03.jpg

It was really funny. During this set they had the old suits on and the old hair. They played the older music from their earlier albums. Here's a picture of this set
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/wek_rain051409_68135c.jpg

The next set was when the Beatles played at Shea Stadium. They played songs from their movies. They also put members of the audience up on the screens, you could see everyone singing along and having a lot of fun! Ok sorry I can't find a picture from the actual concert but here's the outfits they were wearing.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/930333606.jpg

The third set was the Sgt Pepper Era. They came out in the full costumes and everything! They sang the songs of this time period. I'm sorry I'm not really specific on what songs but to be honest I can't remember them all, I was having too much fun!!! Here's a pic of them in their costumes.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/Pepper.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/542.jpg

Here's another example of what I meant when Rain put themselves into pictures, this was also behind them when they sang during this set.
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/rain3.jpg

The fourth set was called Flower Power. They sang their songs from 1967-1968. They were in outfits of with the whole hippy theme. It was really cool. Ok sorry I can't find a pic from this one. Since there's no photography allowed it's hard to find pics.

The fifth and final set was Abbey Road. They wore the outfits that they wore on the cover of Abbey Road. I think this was my favorite part! They did their most recent music and of course from Abbey Road. Here's some pics...
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/A0241.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/A0254.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/633.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/575.jpg

At the end they got everyone pumped up and it was so much fun! They sang imagine and Let it Be at the end of the last set. It was great. They left the stage and then after quite a bit of cheering from the crowd (and I'm some pre-planning on their part!) they came back out and sang Hey Jude (which my mom guessed they would sing!) It was def. one of the best shows I have ever seen and would love to go see it again!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Tower of Terror

When the Tower of Terror was being built, it was struck by lightning.

Disney Imagineers have calculated that if both towers were to drop at the same time that Rock'n Roller Coaster launched it would bring down the Studio's power grid. This is prevented because the Imagineering department decided to build a power sub-station that services just this section of the park.

The Mah Jongg game in the lobby was actually played by two championship players for one hour. Then they just stood up and walked away. This way nobody who knew the game could claim that the game was in any way inaccurate

The four load towers are named (from right to left) Alpha, Beta, Charlie, and Delta.

The two drop towers are named (left to right) Echo and Foxtrot.

It's because you can see the Tower of Terror from EPCOT. It's located just behind Morocco. And since Morocco was built first and it's mauve, Disney didn't want to spoil the illusion. So it was made to blend with the Moroccan buildings.

The luggage in the lobby is a complete set made from genuine alligator skin. While looking through a 1930s furniture catalog, Imagineers decided to call the company to see if they were still in business. They were, and Walt Disney Imagineering had them reproduce two settees for the lobby.

When you board the elevator, on the left side, outside of the elevator itself, is an inspection certificate that's dated Oct. 31, 1939, and signed by "Cadwallader". Cadwallader was a character in the sixth Twilight Zone episode "Escape Clause" who actually turned out to be the Devil himself. the inspection certificate number is 10259, which is cool because The Twilight Zone's first episode ("Where Is Everybody") premiered on Oct. 2, 1959.

Hotel Props and Antiques: The rooms and corridors of The Hollywood Tower Hotel are full of items from Hollywood auction houses. Some items are particularly valuable: One set of leather chairs is an authentic Renaissance antique. (Similar sets of these 17th century Portuguese renaissance chairs are in New York's Metropolitan Museum and London's Victoria and Albert Museum.) Other chairs were from the exclusive Jonathan Club, a well-known Los Angeles landmark built in the 1920s. Numerous French bronzes are found throughout the hotel, some by the famous 19th century artist Moreau, whose work graced many of the best hotels of the period. Even some recreations of a famous American's own work can be found in the lobby. "Four Pages of Hilarious Star Caricatures by Walt Disney" is featured in the Photoplay Magazine on the concierge desk.

In front of the Tower today looms two rather ominous stone structures. Their practical function is to house restrooms, but they are almost exact replicas of the monuments that act as gates at the end of Hollywood's Beachwood Drive. In California, the mountains directly above these gates are home to the famed Hollywood sign, originally built to advertise a real-estate development called Hollywoodland. The gates mark the entrance to this hillside collection of homes and cottages. Ametal sign on the smaller, left hand gate proclaims, "Hollywoodland, Est. 1923." Disney-MGM Studios designers copied this L.A. landmark down to the last detail - almost. At the Studios, the metal sign reads, "Hollywood Hills Estates," a fictional housing development.

Images of MICKEY MOUSE have been hidden throughout the attraction by mischievous Imagineers. During the entire show, for example, the little girl is holding a MICKEY MOUSE doll. Also, look for the famous silhouette of three circles along the balcony railing just before you enter the building and as a water stain on the wall in the boiler room. Although probably not intentional, the bell for the elevator above Rod Serling's head in the Library film also bears a resemblance to those famous mouse ears. A reference to MICKEY can also be seen in sheet music in the Echo Library which is a copy of actual music written in the 1930s (titled, "no mickey mouse? what kind of party is this?"). In the Fifth Dimension scene on the Foxtrot side, the swirling stars form a Hidden Mickey just before they disappear.

Oh I'm glad you like it!

I have some good news, I finally got my ATT for my NCLEX test!!!! I can now schedule it. The only problem is my best friend that I graduated with didn't get hers yet. So I have to wait. We promised each other that we would take the test together. We kept each other sane during nursing school and taking the test together will relieve some of the stress (at least we hope!) So I still wait, but at least I know I can schedule it now!!! I'll let you all know when I schedule it!

In the pre-show Muppet 3D room at MGM there is a net full of green jello hanging from the ceiling. It signifies Annette Funicello.

When you first enter the line for Muppets there's a sign next to the ticket coutner that says "Key under mat" There's actually a key under the map.

Asia

"Anandapur" means "City of Delights" (or "place of delights") in Sanskrit. As with most things found in Walt Disney World, this fictional village has a story behind it. It was supposedly established in 1544 as a royal hunting reserve. In time a village grew in the area. Although the royal hunting reserve has now been converted into a conservation area, the surrounding village still thrives to this day.

The mythical land of Anandapur in Asia - note the authentic prayer trees, draped with both faded and new scarves that commemorate dead loved ones.

Oh and I also went shopping yesterday (again) and got some cute stuff, I'll post pics of them either later tonight or tomorrow!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Epedition Everest

Over at Animal Kingdom, you may have seen the shrine that is located across the
way from Expedition Everest, but the real magic of this shrine is in its shape.
If you stand back so that your line-of-sight has the shrine directly in front
of the attraction's mountains, you'll find that the shrine has the exact same outline as the Himalayas in the distance.

By the way… Did you know that the tallest peak in this recreation of the Himalayans is not actually Everest? Everest is the mountain on the right. It was the Imagineers desire to create a mountain “range” and decided to put Everest further back to add to the illusion of distance and majesty. And in reality, there is another range of mountains in front of Everest. So it would be correct to see other peaks in the foreground.

Disney Trivia of the Day

The Main Street Windows

Ok so I know I'm backtracking because I already did Main Street but I just got finished reading The Imagineering Guide to the Magic Kingdom so I figured I'd add some stuff I learned from there. So here are the stories behind some of the windows on Main Street.

The very first window you see before even entering the park is dedicated to Walt Disney. It pays homage to his love of trains and designates him as the Chief Engineer for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Walt actually has two windows, the second one is over the Plaza Restaurant at the end of Main Street. The window is marked "Walt Disney, Master Classes in Design and Master Planning."

Former Disney President and Chief Operating Officer, Frank Wells, has a window marked Seven Summits Expeditions and is located on the third floor of the Main Street Market House. He had a love for mountain climbing and his wondow is higher than any others on the street, just one more peak surmounted by Frank :)

One window is marked "The Center Street Acadamy of Fine Art" and pays tribute to some of the greatest fine artists ever to work for Disney and WDI, including Mary Blair, Herb Ryman, Blaine Gibson, and John Hench.

Another window is marked "Hollywood Publishing"-the lead Show Writers for the Magic Kingdom are recognized by this entry: F.X. Atencio, Al Bertino, and Marty Skar. Their words are found throughout the Park, so it's only fitting that they are put into words here.

One window is labled "M.T.Lott Real Estate Investments"-This is a collection of pseudonynmous companies used by Disney to secretly buy all of the land that would become Walt Disney World, and the Company executive, Donn Tatum, who led the effort. The team didn't want the public to know who was doing the purchasing or why they wanted that big, empty lot.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Main Street

yes, yes, we're back to main street again!

Walt wanted the storefront windows to be placed closer to the ground than would be period correct so that children would be able to see inside.

The bright red of the sidewalks in Town Square and in the hub area was chosen to enhance the green of the grass, as the two colors are opposites on the color wheel.

The attraction posters that hang in the Train Station, illustrating the stories and adventures that await you as you enter the park, are part of the attempt to set the scene for the arriving guest.

Many of the windows over Main Street are lit from behind with flicker lamps, and some even have special effects that cast shadows to make the street continue to feel occupied after dark.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Pirates of the Carribean

(ok not sure this one may not be there any more since they revamped it but I'll have to look and see, still cool even if it isn't) The name on the coat of arms hanging over the Treasure Room finale scene reads Marco Daviso, an obvious reference to the artist and character designer (Marc Davis) who lent the attraction all of its great sight gags

Pirates features the oldest continuously running example of the MAPO Flicker, a special effects dimmer mimicking the look of a candle or torch. It was developed by Roger Broggie, head of MAPO, WDI's Manufacturing & Production Organization. MAPO also refers to Mary Poppins, the film that provided the original funding for the group.

The Auctioneer is voiced by Paul Frees-the Ghost Host at the Haunted Mansion and the original narrator for the Hall of Presidents.

Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean features two drops rather than WDW's one. While both are required to move Guests out below the Parks' railroad tracks, the Florida version cannot go as deep b ecause of the extremely high water table in the area.

(and a little story for all of you!)
Check Mate!
The chess game between the two long gone buccaneers visible from the queue is trapped in a perpetual check. The only available move leads to a never-ending repetition of the same series of moves. One can only imagine how long they found themselves in this state before their untimely demise. Unfortunately, the game was once disturbed during a routine rehab. When it was time to put it back the way it was, none of the Imagineers were able to recreate this oddity and restore these pirates to their ever-so-static state. A search was undertaken to find the notes describin gthe arrangement. It wasn't until someone looked at the back of one of Marc Davis's drawings that they found a detailed sketch laying out the board just as it needed to be arranged in order for the gag to work. Talk about a complicated punch line!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Liberty Square

The shutters on the windows of the buildings hand at an angle because in Colonial days the upper hinges tended to be made of leather straps in order to conserve metal, this made them list to the side.

Bricks on the serpentine wall behind Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe came from old buildings being torn down in downtown Orlando.

The Liberty Bell is a replica cast from the same mold as the original in Philadelphia and was placed there in recognition of the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution in 1987. The court of flags surrounding it represents each of the thirteen original colonies.

The plant pallete for the flowering varieties placed into beds in the land is limited to red, white, and blue.

The music is all period specific, and orchestrated to include only instruments that would have been in use at the time.

Disney Trivia of the Day

Spaceship Earth

When engineers originally reported that a full geodesic sphere could not support itself structurally, Imagineering legend John Hench suggested an approach of treating the upper three-fourths and the lower fourth as separate pieces-one supported by a table at the top of the six legs and the other hanging from the bottom of that table.

The hidden network of backstage corridors inside Spaceship Earth is understandably compliccated because of the shape of the building and the sperpentine ride system. So much so that maintenance workers occasionally resort to drawing pencil lines on the walls (like bread crumbs) to find their way back to where they started!

Spaceship Earth consists of 2 spheres. The inner sphere is the building membrane, sealed in a thing, black, rubber blanket for protection unlike any other building. The outer sphere is make up of 11,324 individual triangular panels made of aluminum alloy-each one a custom fit.

She'll also give you some ideas if you have absolutely no idea what to do!! I just gave her Dbf's favorite movies and she worked with me to design it!! She works so well with you. And believe me I am quite annoying with getting things perfect and she went with whatever I wanted. We emailed quite a few times and she always had different ideas. She even sent me pictures of stuff from the parks so I could decided what I wanted to include. You should def. do it!! She pretty resonably priced. She doesn't charge extra for the stuff she buys in the parks, just whatever you would pay in the parks. You can send her stuff if you want to include it too. I think she charges for the basket and possibly a delivery fee, but it's not that much!! Do it!!

I'm so jealous that you got a basket for him! I wanted to get one so bad, but it's just not in the (money) cards for me this trip. I am loving your trivia of the day, though I don't comment often, its because my time on here is limited...damn grad school degree, taking my time away from the dis!

Yeah I was a little iffy about getting it in the first place but I decided hey, it'll never be his first trip to disney again so why not! It's a little more than I wanted to spend but I got so excited about it that by the time I got the final price I just couldn't let it go! And hey, he deserves it, he is a wonderful boyfriend and he does so many things for me. So this is something little I can do for him! Damn grad school!!! How dare it take time away from the dis!!! I'll be adding more trivia and pictures from previous trips until we go so keep on the lookout!!! Oh and sorry for the disorganization with all of the trivia. I know I'm repeating myself but I had all of this trivia collected and then I got the Imagineering Field Guide books and I found all this other cool stuff!

Ok so the general consesus from everyone is that it's not that bad for me to have booked an ADR for 4 people to LeCellier so I can get an earlier time? Please?!?! (or am I just rationalizing it to myself!)

Ok so I have been thinking. I wasn't going to preorder the photopass cd for our trip and instead get the photobook. I thought it would be a nice little souvenior (sp) for my first trip with my dbf. Now I'm debating whether or not to get the cd. I do like that I can get sooo many pictures with it but I think the book is so cute and such a nice keepsake. What do you guys think I should do?

Disney Trivia of the Day

Journey into Imagination with Figment

Let's all take a moment to morn the original Journey into Imagination ride, Figment, and the Dreamfinder :sad1: I loved that old ride and Figment, it was one of my favorites. May we always remember our fallen friends. :figment: Ok onto trivia.

Take note of the names on the office doors here at the Imagination Institute. You'll see one labeled Dean Finder, a not-so-sublte reference to the venerable Dreamfinder from the original attraction.

The red and while letterman's jacket witht the M hanging outside the entrance to the computer lab is a reference to Medfield College, the fictional setting of such classic films as The Absent-Minded Professor and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. This also explains the high-top sneakers placed by the door.

The sheet music being used by Figment as a hang glider in the finale scene includes a few bars of the attraction's theme song, "One Little Spark." The sheet is decorated with a motif paying homage to the Dreamcatcher from Journey into Imagination (It's a silhouette of the Dreamcatcher)

In the Sight Lab, look for the poster showing the classic optical illusion in which one can see either a goblet or two faces, depending on how one chooses to look. Ours is a specially Imagineered Figment version.

Well, I am not going to vote yet because I am not sure what the photo book is.

I have thought about the CD in the past, but we seem to not get many photos taken by the photographers there so I just dont think for us it would be worth it. Maybe I am just in my on little world but the last few years I have seen very few of the photographers. The first couple of years they were every where, but now I am not sure I would have enough on my CD for it to be worth it.

What is the photo book?

Love the pictures for the day. Cute one of you in the pirate Mickey ears.

I think I will contact Betsy and see if we cant get something for DS. Does she deliver to your room or just the resort?

Well if you don't know what it is then we shall have to remedy that! I'm not sure. I never really payed that much attention to how many there were. I do know we got quite a few pictures for our cd last year. Enough, to make it worth it I believe. I'm just not sure if I want to. I think I'll talk to dbf too. He's not a huge picture guy (he likes taking them just not being in them!) so maybe the book would be a better idea. I'll have to see what he thinks and how open he is for lots of pictures. Thanks about the pictures! Betsy delivers to the resort but according to her the resort will deliver it to the room for you. She told me it will be delivered the morning of the day I get there and then delivered to our room as soon as it's ready!! She can't guarantee that it will be in the room when you get there, it depends on when you get to the room. I think if you get there later and your room has been ready for a little while it might be there. It doesn't matter for me, we're stopping at the room real quick when we get there (if it's ready!) and then heading right to the parks. We'll unpack later!! So I don't really care if it's there before we get there or if it's just delivered while we're out. So here's some info on the photobook...

Yep, you make it from all of the photopass pics once you get home. I believe you have 30 days from the last day of your trip just like the cd. I know I think it's such a cute keepsake!! Plus it's cheaper than the cd (well it starts out cheaper but knowing me I'll keep adding things onto it and it'll end up being more expensive. But hey it's dbf's first trip and like you said it is an awesome keepsake from his first trip!

Ok so far going with the photobook. I'll think about it for a few days and talk to ian but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be the book. Ugh I should just go with what I originally planned, it always seems like I go back to it!!

Disney Trivia of the Day

China

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest (the big building) is an imperial prayer temple where the emperor would go to pray for a good harvest or give thanks for one othat had already passed. An agricultural theme prevates the detailing of the hall's interior. The four columns in the center represent the seasons of the year. The twelve exterior columns are indicative of the twelve months of the year and of the twelve year cycle that the Chinese live by.

In Chinese design, circles define the heavens and squares stand in for the earth, used together they form the universe. This design is used throughout the building.

The colors red and yellow represent happiness (yellow) and the emperor (red).

There is a medallion inset into the top of the hall with a dragon and a phoenix on it. The dragon represents power (and if it has five claws, it specifically refers to the power of the emperor) and the phoenix represents peace and prosperity. Together they signify a marriage.

The man seated on the hen (overhang) on the roof of the Nine Dragons Restaurant is Prince Min, a 3rd century ruler who was hanged for his cruelty. It is customary to install an effigy of him as a warning to other tyrants. The various animals (they are lined up behind him) are placed there to keep him from escaping.

Xing Fu Jie, or "Street of Good Fortune" serves as the exit corridor for Reflections of China. It was intentionally designed to be too small for the number of guests exiting the show in order to re-create the sense of corwding one feels on the streets of China.

Ok not only am I going to continue the Disney Trivia but I thought maybe of adding a little more so that you guys can join in too! So I'm going to start with top 5 favorites. Pretty simple but I like seeing what other people's favorites are! So here goes!

Oooh you have a few different ones, cool! IASW, def. different, most people hate it but I was actually debating putting it on my list! I love it and dbf promised he'll go on it if I never sing the song again (haha, he'll forget he said that and I WILL sing it again!) Have you ever rode the Jungle Cruise at night? I've read somewhere that it's neat to ride at night but never tried it before, just wondering if anyone else has done it. I never got to ride 20,000 Leagues :sad2: I bet it would have been cool though!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Germany

The Gild Hall, a 16th century merchants hall, is inspired by Kaufhas in Freiburg. The original has four figures on it while the one at disney only has 3 because of they were unable to make the building any bigger. The figures were the original four Hapsburg emperors. The 3 on the disney building are Philip I, Charles V, and Ferdinand I, the missing emperor is Maximilian I. This European royal family ruled Austria-Hungary from 1273-1918.

The statue in the courtyard is of St. George slaying a dragon. St. George is the patron saint of soldiers. German legends say that St. George killed a dragon to which a king's daughter was being sacrificed-slaying it with his magical sword Ascalon. Almost all German villages have a statue of St. George as a symbol of protection.

Ok so not only are we going to do our top 5 favorites but also our top 5 least favorites!!! So today...what are you're top 5 least favorite rides at Magic Kingdom?

Mine:
5.Dumbo (sorry I know it's a classic but I think it's rediculous the lines it gets!!! Little kids like it and I completely get that, perhaps if I was a little kid I would like it better!!! ;) Although I've seen some amazing pics of Wishes from on Dumbo!!)
4.Magic Carpets of Aladdin (again same kinda reason as Dumbo)
3.Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
2.Astro Orbitor (Ok can you tell I don't like the sit in things and go in circles things!!! Course I am a fast ride kinda girl!!)

2. LTT (are the characters back, not sure I would like it without them).
3. Aloha Isle (yummo!)

Disney Trivia of the Day

Japan

Japan features more specific reacreations of real buildings than any other pavillion.

The red torii gate in the lagoon is based on the one that serves as the entrance to the Itsukushima Shrine on the Inland Sea. Torii are found throughout Japan. Originally conceived as perches for roosters to welcome the new day, they have come to symbolize good luck and purification.

The pagoda is drawn after one at the 8th century Horyuji Temple in Nara. Eachc story represents one of the five elements of the Buddhist universe, in ascending order-Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Heaven.

Yakitori House is representative of the tea house at the Katsura Imperial Villa, commissioned by the ruler Hideyoshi, and designed by an architect who gave three conditions before he would take the job-no limits on expense, no limits on time available for completion, and no interference from the patron until the job was done.

The fortress in the back is taken from Shirasagi-Jo, a 17th century castle overlooking Hemeji, used by regional kings during hte feudal era.

Ok for MinnieNurse we'll go to Epcot next! But first we'll start with your top 5 favorite rides at Epcot!

5.Spaceship Earth (I love the revisions they did on it. I LOVE the ending!!!)
4.Turtle Talk with Crush (This is sooo cute, it's so much fun watching the kids!!)

Plus they said, they couldn't keep the water clean enough either. Weird.

Can I still do the top 5 MK places to eat, is it okay?
1. Main Street Bakery-Ice Cream Cookie
2. Plaza-my dh likes walking in and getting a shake or malt.
3. Columbia Harbour House-Tuna Sandwhich
4. Crystal Palace-because the building is gorgeous, food is okay, lol
5. Used to be the Popcorn stand at the entrance. They have the best popcorn, but I can't eat popcorn anymore.

Favorite Rides at Epcot.
1. Soarin
2. Did I say Soarin-we always get fastpasses to ride again during the day.
3. I actually like Nemo's clam shells.
4. The movie in Canada-I sit down in the back, against the wall, and you can see 3/4 of the movie. I hate standing and turning in different directions, it gives me vertigo.

Yeah it would have been really cool to see :sad2: I actually have no idea why it was closed. Can anybody answer this one for us?The submarines were not pressurizing correctly, they were getting to old and they couldn't seal the doors and windows anymore.

5. I know this isn't a ride, but I love the dancing fountain. If this doesn't count as a ride, then Test Track.

Thanks for the answer and thanks for joining!! That is really weird!! Course the whole submarines not pressurizing right and the doors weren't sealing, I'm glad they closed it!!! That could def. have been a problem! :lmao:

Of course you can do any top 5 you missed that you want to do!!! I love your favorite rides at Epcot, very different and sure the dancing fountains can be a ride. Perhaps I should say attraction because those fountains are def. an attraction. Just to make sure, are you talking about the fountains right behind Spaceship Earth!! I love those fountains! And hey if you want to have a top 6 and add test track go for it!! I'm flexible!! And I must agree with you on Soarin' by far my favorite ride at epcot!

Thank you!! I know, I'm so excited!! I'm sure he's going to love it! I think he's really starting to get into it! He's been asking more questions and he likes reading some of the posts when I'm on the disboards. So I think the brainwashing is working!!! :rotfl: yay someone else that likes IASW!!! I do like that ride!

Oh I forgot to tell everyone. I've decided that we're going to get the photobook when we get back. I was showing Ian pictures of it and how you can kinda customize each page and he really liked it. He seemed to like that you can design your page and as I was looking at it I realized that I really want something special like that to mark our first trip together. Not only is this ian's first trip, our first trip to disney together, it's also our first big trip together so I think a little bit of special is in order! So the photobook it is. I realized that if you really wanted to you can fit 80 pictures in the book and I highly doubt we'll have more than that plus Ian wants to put some of our own pics from our cameras on too and to add a page it's only like $1 something so it's not too bad. Oh and to prove even further that he's getting into it we have been watching disney movies for the past 2 weekends. And it was HIS idea!! I love it, he's getting in the disney mood!! He also isn't complaining as much when I talk about the stuff we have to do still (ya know like shopping ;)) Ahh, things seem to be working out quite fine!!

To be honest, I don't have a whole lot of favorite table service in MK, there's just not that many. Ooo I didn't think about he voices of liberty, they sound so beautiful! Is orange the side that spins, I can never remember the colors, I just always walk up and say "the one that spins please!" You'd think I'd remember by now but of course I don't! Very nice choices though!!

When you do Soarin...PLEASE remember to ask to sit in the front row. I was NOT a fan of Soarin until I asked. When you're in other rows, you see peoples feet above you and it ruins the effect! The front row is the only way to go now!

Disney Trivia of the Day

France

The park bordering the canal overlooking the International Gateway is inspired by A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by the post-Impressionist painter Georges Seurat.

The costumes of the female Cast Members at Impressions de France are taken from the painting A Bar at the Folies-Bergere, the last major work by the painter Edouard Manet. The colors and a bit of the trip have been changed, but the cut is practically a direct lift.

The bridge into France from the United Kingdom is a replica of the original Pont des Arts, a pedestrian bridge across the Seine, which was torn down and replaced in 1970.

Our Eiffel Tower was constructed using the blueprints originally drawn by Gustave Eiffel-only at one tenth the size.

The mansarded roof-with two slopes on each of the four sides, the lower slope steeper than the upper-takes its name from the architect Francois Mansard, who worked in Paris in the mid 1600s.

Yay, it's still there!! I think it's so fun to watch them make the food in front of you! It was one of my family's most fun meals! I was thinking of including Tutto but I haven't been there in quite a few years and to be honest I can't remember the food. But I do like me some Italian food!!! My family and I went to Marrakesh last summer and it was good but I didn't think that it was amazing. I have to say though that the restuarant is beautiful inside and it was a lot of fun. I'm glad we went but I don't think we'll go back. But hey, what I like might not be what you like. I would def. recommend going to it for the experience and for something a little different!

Ahhhh I leave for my NCLEX exam in like 10 minutes!!! I just had to hop on the disboards for a little bit to relax before I go. Yes the disboards is like meditation for me!! I'll let you all know how I do tomorrow!! (I would do it tonight but my friend and I are going out to relax and celebrate once we're done and I don't know the condition I'll be in when I get home!! ;)) Please think good thoughts for me!! I'm so nervous!!

I have no idea how I did! I feel the same way I do after every test I've ever taken, I have no idea. I'm keeping a positive outlook though and I keep telling myself that I passed. It ended up only taking me about an hour and a half and I did about 90 some questions. So I guess we'll see. Hopefully I'll get the "unofficial" results today in about an hour and I'm hoping they say I passed!! I'm trying to keep myself entertained until then because I really really need to know! Oh well if I didn't pass I'll take it again and hey I'm still going to Disney World!! So I'll keep you all posted about the results!!

Hello everyone, I haven't been on in a few days but I'm here and I have the best news in the world...

I passed my NCLEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1::cool1::banana::woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay::d ance3::dance3:

I am now "officially" an RN!!! I'm so excited. All of that stress is over!! I was on cloud nine all day on friday when I found out!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July and set off tons of fireworks. My 4th was great. We always have a cookout at my house and some of my neighbors come over. Of course Ian was there and we had a nice day. Then when night came, fireworks came!! My dad and brother always set off the fireworks. We live at a deadend road and we're really close with most of our neighbors so then all come over and we set up chairs in our driveway and watch the fireworks show!! It's so much fun!

Disney Trivia of the Day

Animal Kingdom

Disney's Animal Kingdom has 1,500 specimens of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians-representing more than 200 species-in addition to 5,000 specimens of fish comprising 500 different species and thousands of insects from over 40 different species.

It takes about four and a half tons of food a day to keep the Park's animals happy. The Animal Nutrition Center prepares over 400 individual or group diets daily.

The animals inhabiting Oasis were chosen because they are perceived to have a gentle disposition. This helps to achieve the sense of welcome that the land is intended to embody.

Ok since today is Animal Kingdom trivia day how about what are your favorite attractions at AK!!!

Picture time!!!!

From our November 2000 trip!!

Just one pic this trip. We went with my grandmother for Thanksgiving. It was a lot of fun. We ate at Olivia's at Old Key West and of course had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Although it was fun, I missed having all of our family at our house for dinner. But hey they had the lights up for Christmas, so that was a bonus!!!!
So here's me, my brother, and my grandmother in front of some Christmas lights in Epcot!! And of course the 2000 and wand on the big golf ball!!! http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/amunet12/November%202000/scan0013.jpg

Also since there's not a whole lot of restaurants or other rides at AK I'm going to skip them and head right on to Hollywood Studios!!! Ok so what's your top 5 favorite attractions at HS!!

5.Fantasmic!
4.One Man's Dream
3.Toy Story Mania
