I can't believe *I* am starting the meet thread for this cruise!
This will be our very first parents-only cruise and we're pretty excited.
Who else is cruising w/ us? Or will we have the whole ship to ourselves? :rotfl:

Hi-
We too are sailing, it will just be the adults. My first cruise and I wanted to make sure I liked it before adding the kids into the mix. It will also be our 10 year anniversary "gift" to each other.

Has anyone tried to do this yet? I was thinking this length of cruise would be great to get my feet wet and see if I can do it in the future with the kids. I believe my husband will think I am crazy if I make him travel the ship to deliver items, when we get so little time without the kids as it is... oh well!:rotfl:

Nette-
Congratulations on your 10 years, ours is truly in June but to get someone to watch the kids we choose Sept, it is easier when they are in school during the day.

Well, after going to look at previous threads it seems like they give a little more information on themselves, so let me start.
Me - DW 36 and DH 35
Location: Green Bay, WI
1st cruise for me, second for DH - but first time in a larger ship.
Reason: 10 Year anniversary celebration (truly the date is June 12)
Staying a POP before the trip, hoping to get FD bounceback for a trip in 2010
Renting a car and driving to the port.
Room: Cat 7 - secret verahanda (sp) room
Hopefully we will get a few more people joining us...then again, I am all for an empty ship...More for us.

It's just the two of us. DM (dis mom) 50 and DD who turns 18 on cruise. We're from AZ. We're in a cat 12 (but hoping to upgrade). First cruise for both of us but many trips to WDW.
We're all for Fish Extenders if we can get it organized.

Yep, ours is the week after yours June 19.
We are Nette/dday2021

This is our 5th cruise on DCL
Cat 11 (for now)
First parents only vacation!! (We had a trip once w/o kiddo, but it was for a tournament, so not really vacation)
Staying DVC somewhere the night before the cruise. Will probably use DCL transportation to the port. (Hoping for a night at AKV...)
I still need to make sure my mom will sit while we're gone. I'm sure it will be fine, but I'm chicken to tell her we're gonna spend money during this economy...

Hi Everyone - We are also joining you - and we are so excited!!!
This is our second Disney cruise. It's also our bounceback. And because we loved our 7-night cruise on Jan. 31, we decided to add a 4-night cruise at the end of this cruise.
I was wondering if anyone here has done the fish extenders before. I was also curious if it would seem a little rushed on a shorter cruise. But I really do love the idea of trying it. We booked our last cruise just six weeks prior to boarding, and I was concerned about being too late to add our names to the list. But I'll be honest, I really wish we had done it on the last cruise. It just sounded like a ton of fun.
A little about us -
It'll be me, the hubby and our daughter, who will be 4 (going on 24) at time of cruise. We're from Northeast Florida, and quickly became addicted to Disney cruises (We've also done Holland America before, and loved that too - but Disney was definitely more child-friendly and perfect for our family). The weather was pretty chilly on our Jan. 31 cruise (which was somewhat of a fluke) so we're really hoping for nice weather this time around.
Can't wait to learn about all of you, and see who else will be joining us. (Our tablemates from our first Disney cruise have already booked, which is why we chose this date for our 3-night. Our daughters became really close on the first cruise, so we thought it would be nice to get together again.)

Staying at Poly and using Magical Express
Room: Cat 5 on the 7th deck
I have been planning this trip for 2 years and it's been booked since last July! I can't wait! Hoping to find someone with kids of around the same age who would be interested in getting them together.

Not a very chatty group are we? That's new for me. Every cruise we've been on has had a wild long meet thread that I've barely participated in. I'm just a lurker at heart I guess.
I'm getting very excited for this cruise. It's the first time in YEARS that DH and I will be getting away sans kiddo (though, I'm slightly worried about that too). What the heck is a vacation w/o kids for? I suspect I'll be in the Cadillac Lounge for the entire cruise. :)

Hello,
I'm would like to join the group. I am sailing on 9/17, and I can't tell you how excited I am. This is my third DCL adventure, and my first solo! The first was with a group of four, my husband and another couple. The second was a family reunion, with my then 18 month old daughter. We had fun on both, but we are now a family of four and this is a trip for me.
My husband is active duty Navy and has been deployed a lot since the kids were born. I really need a get away vacation and decided to book the cruise last year. I have cat 12 (for now) because we didn't really spend much time in the room and I can justify it by myself. I arrive on the day the ship departs and when it returns I have four days at the Beach Club DVC side. I look forward to relaxing and sleeping in and doing all the things I like to do.
Thanks Nette for starting this thread. I look forward to checking in before we sail.

A cruise without the little one sounds great. We'll hopefully do that one day ourselves. But I will say, sometimes our dd loved the club so much, it felt like we had a ton of time to ourselves.
It is kind of quiet here - and I'm not usually quiet. The last time around we booked our cruise just six weeks prior to the cruise - so it all happened so fast. I never got involved in the meet thread. It just seems so far away this time. But I am hoping people will want to do a fish extender. I was searching for one on ebay, but I'm waiting to see if people are interested before we buy it. I thought there might be more talk of this as we get closer to the sailing date.
Nette

I'd love for us to get a bit more talkative... It seems like no one else really understands a DCL vacation unless they've been on it (or are on their way to the first one). I'm so tired of hearing how expensive it is!!! You get what you pay for people! (And we have some very dear friends who just hated their cruise on Norweigen because of all of the upcharges!)
Anyway... DD only ever wants to come out of the club when DH and I are - ahem - busy. So this might be a nice change. ;)

Well, I'm in. I have to agree, too. I have had friends on other cruise lines and it really is different. I'm going cheap, mostly because I am not traveling with kids. It is possible to do that. I don't gamble so I don't miss that part at all.

I think a FE would be fun. I know Brigette has done one before on our last cruise together.
Maybe once school is over this thread will get more chatty. I know at the end of the school year we get so busy it is hard to keep up with everything. We are definately looking forward to this cruise. Should be a lot of fun!

Were going to be using our bounce back offer we were on the same cruise as Christy and her family! It will be myself, DH and DS 3 years old. This is going to be laid back cruise for us, we went all out with the last one. I organized the FE exchange group on the last cruise but dont think we will do it again, as it made our luggage so heavy, but may do it again if it turns out to be a small group! I can help organize it again ir give tips on how to do it?
As the cruise date gets closer I think the group will start to get busier.

Hadn't joined before now-Guess I was having trouble really believing that we were really going on a Disney Cruise (our first).
We are a Big Disney Loving Family, we were hoping more family members would get to come but this year's trip looks like it will only be me DM48 and DS28.
We are going to be at DW for FD 9/9-17 (4th yr) and then the cruise.:banana::banana:

We've only been to Nassau once in 4 cruises (what can we say, we like double dips)... We did the stingray excursion and loved it. But we loved it more for the beach break time afterward... DD was only 3 and was scared of the ray's.
This time we're thinking of checking out the atlantis aquarium, or maybe just staying on board...

Sorry, all. I have been overwhelmingly wrapped up in the "Land" portion of our trip, I've been neglecting the "cruise" part. To me, the cruise seems like dessert, and I haven't put 1/10 of the effort into it that I have the resort stay. I booked my ADRs, so it's all starting to feel real. Anyone else getting excited?

Wow... down to 67 days!
Sorry I haven't been around, I warned you guys I'm bad at this stuff. :rotfl:
As far as a meet goes, we're planning on being up at the bow of the ship to try and see some dolphins as we leave the port (I guess that's around 5pm). W/o the kiddo we're not planning on going to the sailaway party... though, maybe I'll get a package of bubbles to hand out just because it's fun to see kids' faces light up over something so simple. (Yeah, and I like bubbles too!)
I'm torn on the FE thing... I'd like to do it, but I'm pretty sure I'll manage to stress myself out over it before we go.
Guess what I got last night? Palo ressies... at a prime time on Friday night even!!! Looked like there were still LOTS of times available, so if you want them and thought they were all gone....

We will probably stay on the ship. I think it will be a good time for my daughter and I to really explore the ship and take advantage of some things.
I have been to Nassau many times in my life and the only thing that interests me at this point is the knock-off purses and after last summer being witness and knocked to the ground during a major raid in NYC Chinatown :scared1: --- I figure I will spare the kid.
As of right now we have late seating so I want to make sure she gets a good nap in everyday so we can do the show, dinner and whatever is after dinner each night.
Speaking of which...anyone working on their pirate night costume? I picked up some Mickey pirate patches last week at the Orlando outlets that I will sew onto a red and white striped shirt for her. Not sure what I am going to do yet. Thinking of a white peasant shirt and gaucho pants.
BTW, you are forwarned for any meets we do... I am all about the themes (ie she will be in a mermaid dress at tritons) and whenever possible us matching. :rolleyes1
We will also be on this cruise. It will be me, DH - Joe and our 2 daughters, Brandie (15) and Courtney (12). We'd like to be included in a fish extender exchange. We participated on our last cruise in March and it was a lot of fun.

Very odd, but excellent, situation---my group has expanded to 7 people....all friends and DM's ages 39-49. :grouphug: Interestingly enough, two of us have birthdays while on this cruise! :bday:
We are attempting to book the Palo Private Dining room but we need a total 12-14 people to book it.
I saw that some of you lovely folks are traveling in various groups....would anyone like to join our fun-loving crew to be able to eat in the Palo Private Dining room? Cost is still $15/person...and your Palo ressie would be cancelled if you have one. They don't assign the Private Dining Room until ~30 days out.
Just PM me if you are interested--thanks and looking so forward to September!

yeah, I'm torn on the FE. we did it the last time but I was so stressed out in packing and planning.
I'd rather meet up with everyone at a firm time and place. The last time we had a time and place and no one showed up. I think it was because it was the first day and they were too busy with getting ressies, lunch, etc. Maybe an evening gtg might work better.

I got your PM... I am interested in FE. Not our first cruise, but first on DCL and I think my daughter will get a kick out of it. Right now I have a lot going on and can not organize. Sorry.
I am also interested in a get-together at any point in the trip.
We will be at WDW beginning Sept 14. We are passholders and only staying 2 nights there so no free dining for us. But that is fine. I have lots of special things scheduled for this trip -- Dinner at Castle, MNSSHP, Biergarten and breakfast with Donald.... we go about once a month so I am trying to do "different" things this trip since it is more of a real vacation than a quick run up to Orlando. Also... my daughter has no idea about the cruise and I probably will not tell her until we get to the port for a BIG surprise.

It will be a huge surprise for him - we're not telling him, we're just driving to the port on the 17th. He turns 8 on Sept 28th, so he is getting his surprise a little early. We would love to be part of a kids-only FE exchange, count us "in". I PM'd you with our room #.
My daughter has no idea either. We will be staying on-site at WDW the first part of the week to celebrate my birthday. But I have no plans to tell her anything until we get to the port. So when you see a little girl squealing in the port -- that will be us! :lmao:
She has been asking for a cruise too.... but she has no idea that there is a "Disney Cruise". When she realizes her two favorite trips can be thrown in a blender together she is not going to know what to do with herself. i can't wait.

I've sent a few PMs to people with smaller children about doing a kids exchange. It seems that some PMs aren't going through? If your interested let me know. So far there are 3 kids.

I just pmed you Tierre so I hope you get it, if not our room # is 2612.
I would love to meet everyone. It would be great at a bar but makes it hard for people with kids. Or we could setup a couple of different times and places. One that is kid-friendly and one in a bar.

something else that is not working for me is the subscription thingy. I have mine setup to send me email alerts and I got on today and there is a whole page of talk and I didn't get one alert. Hrmph. :)

We got an upgrade from a cat 12 GTY to a cat 9 on deck 2!!
Two weeks from now we'll all be getting ready to board!
I think I mentioned before that we plan on being at the front of the ship on deck 10 when we leave port to see if we can spot any dolphins. So if anyone wants to meet us that's where we'll be. (I won't commit to anything else as I am notorious for missing planned things on vacation...)

Only 7 more days - yay!
We live in Melbourne, so we can drive up to the port at anytime, on the 17th... we're gonna try to be there by 11, and on the Wonder before 12pm. We're carrying our swimsuits with us, so if it's warm enough (and it should be) we'll be playing in the pool after we get some lunch at the buffet. We'll worry about getting into our room later!
We have alll our clothes picked out, waiting to get stuffed into our carry-on suitcases.
Keep your fingers and toes crossed for no hurricanes... the day at Castaway Cay is always the best day of the trip (for us, at least), and you don't want to miss it. IF there is a weather problem in the Atlantic, we'll probably end up getting re-routed to Key West and up the west coast of Florida.. not a "bad" cruise, but without Castaway Cay it won't be "as special".

I know! I'm so praying we have good weather and are able to make CC. We had crappy weather there the last time and everything was cancelled so the boys are really hopin'. O'well, it is what it is and will still be a great trip anyway it works out.

Hi everybody, just got back. Wasn't the weather awesome? We had our best cruise ever. We did Cabbage Beach on the 1st day, and it was terrific... Castaway Cay day was perfect too, our 7-yr old snorkeled all the way out to the sunken Mickey and back, we were so proud of him. Lotsa great family memories.
Thanks to those of you who participated in the FE exchange... It was fun!

We're back and in love with cruising. We booked the 7 night Western Halloween cruise for next year and may actually book the Alaskan cruise asap. Thanks for all the great FE gifts.

We got back on Tuesday evening and I've been not feeling well since the cruise I got the sea legs feeling and it wont go away! Went to the Dr and got some nausea meds hope that does the trick.
It was a great cruise, and the weather shall I say more!

My wife gets the "sea legs" thing too... she is perfectly fine on the boat (never been sea-sick) - but for days after the cruise, she feels dizzy and complains that the ground is still swaying ;)
Only today, she is finally starting to feel back to normal (it's been 6 days since the cruise). This time it lasted longer, I wonder if it had to do with being higher (7th deck) than before (we're usually on deck 2).
