By the way, I finally got an answer from the camp director about posting the photo of my sand sculpture and she said she would rather I not. Of course, I will respect their privacy. But I can bring the photos with me on the cruise and hopefully share them with you.
Sue,
I could understand her reasoning. Looking forward to seeingthem on the cruise.

Hi Everyone!
Wanted to share my D23 necklace that I got through Disney Movie Rewards. The picture does not do it justice but I will have on the cruise. I got the points for buying Disney movies. I joined on Disney site. I have gotten allot of nice things from them for free. They even pay the postage.

Our favorite thing to get when we get back to our cabin at night is the "all Hands on Deck" which is a cheese and fruit plate. It can be slightly different everytime because of the cheese selection, but that with a hot cup of tea just makes my evening complete.
Just can't wait!! :goodvibes

Looks like we will use DCL transportation too. I was hoping there would be more interest but no big deal. There is still plenty of time to make transportation arrangements.
As far as who people can call for transportation, I would suggest FL Tours since they are listed on the DIS as well.
Well, time for bed. Congrats on the pirate: and princess:

Very excited!!
I was able to book DS and I for parasailing at noon on Monday. :cool1:
Monika - I think I recall you mentioning you booked the same time for yourself and Michael. Should be fun.
I also booked a cabana massage for myself on Wednesday. Ahhh. I can not wait.
I checked but nothing available for Palo. I will just have to make sure I get booked on the SSMC10 and get a ressie at the 90 day mark.

Thanks for the pictures. If you want to post a picture here on the DIS you've already made the right start by having them on a hosting website. To add an actual picture lick on the little yellow box at the top of the text window. It looks like it has a mountain in it. That will bring up a box and you just put the URL of the photo you want to post and then hit enter. Hope that helps.

Dianne,
Yes, we are at the boardwalk. I called Magical Express to see what hotels they go to. To make a long story short I went to 4 places and could not get an answer.
One good thing about takingthe magical express is ( I was reading the DCL contract) that we register at the hotel before we get on the bus. So I would think that all we have to to at port is get are pics taken. Not sure. We will see.
Have a good day.

Good Tuesday Morning! :goodvibes
Another beautiful day here in the midwest. I wish it were like this all year long.
Well, we have actually started packing for the cruise. When we got home from Disney in June, we just left one big suitcase out in our bedroom and when we think of something we don't want to forget we have been throwing it in! Just this morning I put my DCL beer mug in! Don't want to forget that! :rotfl:

Susan
Susan - they usually announce the next cruise while on the current one but everyone calls in the same day. There are two exceptions to that.
1) If they offer a free cruise for adding on like they have done the past 2 years.
2) if they pull a stund like they did in 2006. Denied on the ship that there was another Member Cruise planned (even though a 4 night date had been dropped from DCL's calendar). Then announcing a special call in date and lottery for first time cruisers. That pissed a lot of people off!
As for sending a picture in you just need to attach it as a .jpg to an e-mail. The address is on the main web page.

120 points or more for the Big Fig. Here are the incentives from last years cruise:
Here are the incentives:
BLT points good until 2060, AKL points good until 2057. Base incentives for booking - $5 per point off of Bay Lake Towers (which is selling for $112 per point before this reduction) or $8 per point off of Animal Kingdom Lodge (which is selling for $104 per point before the production. This is good for adding on anything over 120 points.
For 120 point in addition to the above you get a special Mickey Big Fig Statue and a 4 night stay in the new Treehouse Villas before booking opens to the general public.
For 200 point add on you get a 5 night stay Savannah view at AKL in a 2 bedroom, fast passes good for your whole family for the length of stay and $250 visa gift card or $250 shipboard credit on this cruise.
For 270 point add on you get either a 7 night stay in a Magic Kingdom 2 bedroom at BLT (with fast passes), or if you don’t want to wait until BLT opens a 4 night stay in the Contemporary Tower, or a Cat 6 stateroom for 2 on next years Member Cruise to be held 9/13/09. This comes with a $300 visa card or shipboard credit.
For 360 points you get the special ABD Backstage Member Exclusive Tour on May 12,2009 for 2, or any one of 10 other ABD trips. This comes with a $400 visa card or shipboard credit.
For 500 points there is a 7 night stay at the Grand Wailea in Maui in an ocean view room, or the exclusive Member ABD trip to Italy on 7/20/09 or any ABD for 2. This comes with a $750 visa credit or shipboard credit.
Mary, thanks for answering the question. I would have to search through my stuff to find it. Someone asked about a picture. I'll take one, but will have to wait until Jamie returns from drill camp since she has the camera.
Finished my fish extender gifts last night. Just have one more thing to add (the goody inside), but will have to wait to buy that till the week before the cruise!
One more thing to check off my list!

I don't have a vacation all summer....so I am dying for the cruise!! I love to look at the photos from previous Disney cruises. I don't know if I will ever be able to do all of the things I wanted to do with my new knees. They just don't always go the way I want them to or as fast as I want them to. And forget about ever kneeling...no way. Maybe after a year or year and a half it will be better. The surgeon told me it take that long to be really healed, and it's been 6 months. I go see him in July and I know I need to have my left one manipulated under anesthesia due to scar tissue. HOpefully it won't be too bad.
It will be fun to meet all of you...the more I read and the more I post, it is like I already know you!!
I was able to change my Dec DVC ressie from 11/29 to 12/5 in a two bedroom to 12/12 to 12/18 in a two bedroom. The airfare was wicked expensive for the Thanksgiving weekend. And since I am paying for 5 of us, I decided to change. I hope the crowds aren't too too bad. I know that I will never go again when Pop Warner is there!!!!

Wow! I haven't been on for 2 days and I am 9 pages behind! :scared1:
I just filled out the final form on the DCL web site for the cruise. That was the credit card auth. We are all done.
Butin reading it says that there is a form we both have to sign and birng with, I did not see it or get one to print and sign? Does any one know what it is or were I might have gone wrong. I do this for all the cruises but this time I did not see now form.

Robbie,
I register on line so I don't have to fill out paper work. I did the credit card info so that is in the system now and I registered each passanger. That part was easy they already had are passport info in it all I had to do is change the emergency contact info. Since my DS will be home it is him.

Good Morning, Fellow Cruisers!
Happy Wednesday! Starting out a bit cloudy here after nighttime rain. But it's my day to go to my mom's, get her to the hairdresser, and then since DH and DS are at camp, I'll probably stay the rest of the day and have dinner with her, She really likes that. :goodvibes
Anyway, here I go with my questions again. When you (anyone) deliver your gifts to the fishextenders, what time of day do you try to do that and do you try to do it secretly and not get "caught" (like Santa!) or do you try to actually meet the people when you deliver? :confused3

No hump day this week...we have off on Friday (you know us Federal employees)...
I just put my FE stuff out when I get a chance to do it. I am so busy trying not to miss anything, and also, it is a big ship with a lot of people spread out, so I had to do it in two trips. Don't know what others do, but I just do it when I find the time and the energy!

The last couple of cruises we've usually done it in the evening during the second show (assuming it is a show we've seen before). The halls are usually quiet because most people are either at the show or at dinner. I love walking the halls and seeing how my fellow DISers have decorated their doors.

We usually deliver our gifts in the evening too and try to be secret about it. We usually split up with our mini navigator in hand and we go deck by deck and meet in the middle then head down to the next deck.
If we have tons, we usually take 1/2 and then stop in the stateroom to pick up the other 1/2.
It doesn't really take too long to deliver, and I agree with Mary, half the fun is looking at how everyone has decorated their door and to see how the FE has evolved since it was introduced on the inaugural Panama Canal Cruise back in 2005.
My FE gifts are just about done. I've been putting the finishing touches on them this week. I will just have to wait to put in the last little "goody" until the week before I leave home.

Thanks for the responses about the FE gifts - I think I'll follow suit and do them in the evenings inbetween activities or shows. You guys really make it fun to be on this. I think it has really enhanced my joy of cruising! Thanks again.
Day at mom's was very nice. While she was at the hairdressers, I ran around and did some errands for her. Then we did a few things around her house, got Boston Market for dinner and now I'm home, after watching the first inning of the Phillies game with her. She loves her Phillies!

No, but the Disney Outlet in Hershey is just adjacent to Hershey Park. There is also an outlet in the Lancaster Outlets.
They are having a huge clearance sale right now. Someone on the budget board got a ton of stuff for her kids for $90 for Christmas.

Happy Day...Thank goodness it is Thursday and I can sleep in tomorrow!!
Here's a Makayla story...4 years old...she was going on a field trip with daycare to the miniature horse farm in Gettysburg PA. So in the am, daddy was getting her dressed and she was all excited, he told her she needed to be good and listen to her teacher, to behave herself, and to eat all the lunch that mommy packed her...
When they were on the way to daycare, her mommy started to tell her that she needed to listen to her teachers, and behave, and...Makayla interrupted,
"yea,yea,yea, just get me there.."
That's Makayla!

For some reason, we have always gone into Parrot Cay. Maybe because that is where we have been directed, but sometimes because it has been either very warm or very windy (which it can on the coast) and we didn't feel like sitting outside at that time. Plus, they usually have a band playing, and DS likes that, too.

We always go up to deck 9 (Beach Blanket on the Wonder/Topsiders on the Magic). I'd much rather sit outside than in an air conditioned room. Maybe it's because we're coming from the Midwest. :confused3 I know last year there were a lot of DISers up at Beach Blanket.
When we travel with friends like Karen who have kids we grab a table by the pool. Last April when Karen and I got up to the table after handling Palo reservations her son Nick was eating pizza. I had never tried the pizza on the ship and it looked so good that's what I got for lunch.
The kids get to swim right away, and we get to enjoy a nice lunch.

It has been a while so I though I would post one.
This is for any one that has sailed DCL before. Let’s give the first time cruisers an idea on why we go to one or the other.
When you first get on the Ship were to you go and eat Parrot Cay or Beach Blanket and Why?
We have gone to Beach Blanket because of recommendations from others here on the Dis. I think this time we will try Parrot Cay...hey, if I don't like it, I can always go to Beach Blanket or get pizza, right?
This is like planning a wedding...so excited, but when it is over, I am going to be so depressed!

We have done both. Usually go to Parrot Cay if we are with a large group of dis'ers and it is easier to sit and have a whole group of tables together and visit.
If we are in a smaller group or by ourselves we usually head up to Beach Blanket or Topsiders (depending if we are on the Wonder or the Magic). Then we usually grab something out by the pool too!
This time, since I will have my brother in law (1st cruise) and sister (2nd cruise) with me, we will probably go to Parrot Cay. My BIL is an architect and I know he is going to be totally amazed from his first steps onto the ship!
In fact, I think we will do the tour that is like at 1:30 p.m. around the ship. I've never done it before in all my cruises and my BIL would find it fascinating.

One of my best friends from high school works here at the hospital and her husband does too. I have known him and his dad for over 30 years. He is about 55, and was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, had surgery, and was scheduled this am to see the oncologist. After my friend left for work this morning, he shot himself in the head. He was medivac'd to Hershey Medical Center. I have worked with people who have survived this and it is never good.
I can't imagine what my friend is going through.

I could use a few prayers myself though nothing as serious as Susan. I had bloodwork done at lunch today and my platelets are back down under 100. Now they still can go up in 3 days as I'm scheduled for chemo on Monday. If you have the time and are so inclined please say a prayer that they go back up and I can have chemo as scheduled.
Thank you all!

Well, it is a somber day today. Our friend's husband has died. Well, he was our friend also. He was dead on arrival at the hospital. He had lost a lot of weight in the past few months, and then he was admitted to the hospital rather in a rush with prostate cancer. He had said that the doctor told him that they "got it all". But I think that his cancer had metasticized. I think. He shot himself in the head. It is so sad. I don't know the entire medical story, but prostate cancer is so slow growing and so curable. Men live 20 to 30 years most times.
About 3 years ago my girlfriend had her colon removed due to ulcerative colitis. She was off work for 6 months. They gave her a temporary ileostomy and then they reattached her small intestine, giving her a pouch. She has to take antibiotics and lomotil for diarrhea every day.
They have a son and two young grandsons.
My heart just aches for them, and particularly for my girlfriend. I don't know how I would feel, but I know that I would be feeling that there must have been something I could have done, something I missed, hurt, anger, loneliness...
She is 59, like me, and has a very good job as business manager for nursing. She has 37 years of service at the VA and can retire. I think she will, I don't think she will have the strength to deal with all of this and work.
Well, friends, life is so precious. Take care,
Susan

Robbie - not sure what you mean about cruise number? Do you need this for something or were you just curious how many previous cruises the Wonder has taken?
Usually there is a number for the cruise similar to a "flight number" for an airline. I was looking it for it so that I could fill out some paperwork at work.

Sue,
If it is a nice day DBFF may enjoy sitting out side. If you sit on the side of the ship that faces the terminal you could watch the people getting on and them loading the luggage.
At Parrot Cay DBFF would get the island theme.
As you can see I am not much help.:)

Good morning everyone - happy Friday!
I'm ready to enjoy this 3 day weekend. Mark has to work today so I'm on my own. Thinking of heading out to the mall for a little shopping.
Thanks for all the prayers. I know they are helping!
Sue - I think either would make a good impression. For me that first lunch isn't a big deal. I'd say your decision would be better made on how you want to enjoy the first lunch. Inside being served your drinks or outside getting everything on a tray. To me the "wow" happens later. As you walk around the ship, at sailaway, at dinner each evening. Another thing to remember is that you'll have your carry-on luggage with you no matter where you eat. I think that is one reason many like Parrot Cay. A little more room to spread out and many leave their carry-ons up front.

I think you may be right - I'll have to wait to see what the weather is like - but people watching is always fun - or funny!
DH and DS are finishing camp today. I am riding up there with another scout family this morning - around 9 am - and after a stop at a nearby campground to set up their family trailer, we'll drive over the the boy scout camp and hang out there most of the afternoon. Then there is a family BBQ dinner and closing campfire. It has been ages since I've seen one, so I'm excited about going. :yay:
Then we'll go alittle more north to our friends house - another scout family - in the Poconos, PA. On Saturday, we're going to the (and forgive the spelling) Kutztown Folk Festival and Fair. I've always heard about it but have never gone, so I'm excited about that too. Then home again on Sunday morning, about a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Mary, the more I thought about it that lunch has been nice, but as you say, the "wow" happens later! I think I'm excited and waiting for the look on her face when we first walk on the ship into the grand lobby!

Sue,
We went tothe Poconos on are honeymoon almost 31 years ago. It is go pretty out there. we even went to a nice zoo that is some were around there. We landed in wilksboro airport. When the pilot tells you they are going to land he realy means it.
take care and have fun at the campfire.

OH THE POCONOS...I love it there. When I was young we used to go to a beautiful cabin on the lake. It is so peaceful. DH and I drive up occasionally to see different areas. There is a great shopping outlet there too. When DD was a cheerleader in HS, they went to cheerleading camp in the Poconos every summer. I always went on the last day to watch them compete...such fun.
My wow factor when I first got on the ship was just the ship!! I couldn't believe it. Got the drink of the day..and walked around a bit, sat outside and ate shrimp, watched people, and then scouted out a good place to watch the sail away party. I had only been on one Carnival cruise, and DH was never on a cruise...I remember that day so well on the first Disney cruise.
The ship was so beautiful and everything was unbelievable.
Going to go to the Disney store today at the outlets in Hershey. Nice quiet day alone, which is really unusualy for me...usually surrounded by DH, one or two DD's and one or 2 or more toddler grandchildren....the weather is beautiful, it stormed like crazy last night and poured, and now it is a little overcast with a nice cool breeze. Hard to believe it is July in PA.
I spend last night surfing the Dis, and I am so disheartened that SSR owners are do disliked by other owners. I don't offer my two cents...because you can't convince anyone that you LOVE SSR and that is your preference in resorts. I have stayed at all the others with exception of BWV, and don't really have the desire to stay there, but even though I own at VWL, I love SSR. I think it might be that it reminds me of the condos at Surfide Beach and Myrtle Beach where my family lived for over 20 years. It is so pretty, cheery and airy and like a little community...reminds me too of summers when I was a kid and always going the same week on vacation and seeing the same families year after year. Maybe it is because I am such a northerner (Yankee as the people in SC called me) and it just is beautiful to me! You know, Saratoga NY. I like the home away from home...I don't want a hotel feel like the others. I like my private entrance. Oh well.
Happy Friday!
Blessings,
Susan

Hi everyone!
Thank you so much for all the Birthday wishes!
We spent the last 5 days at AKL. What a beautiful resort. I'm jealous of everyone who owns there. We loved spending time on our balcony watching the animals, giraffes are mesmerizing! We stayed in the Jambo house. I did walk over to Kidani Village, the pool there looks great especially if you have children, there is a wonderful, type of water park with fountains and water guns.
For all of you who love the California Grill, boy are you right! We had a fantastic meal there on my B'day. It was an added bonus to watch the water light parade from the restaurant. You could even here the music.
So, bear with me as I catch up on what I missed!
Thanks!
Well, we have actually started packing for the cruise. When we got home from Disney in June, we just left one big suitcase out in our bedroom and when we think of something we don't want to forget we have been throwing it in! Just this morning I put my DCL beer mug in! Don't want to forget that! :rotfl:
This is such a great idea, I'm starting today (if I can keep my cat out of it)
The surgeon told me it take that long to be really healed, and it's been 6 months. I go see him in July and I know I need to have my left one manipulated under anesthesia due to scar tissue. HOpefully it won't be too bad.
Susan
Under anesthesia, it won't be to bad! Hopefully you will get better movement afterwords. Good luck and keep up the good work.
Wow! I haven't been on for 2 days and I am 9 pages behind! :scared1:
OH boy, my problem too! I am trying to catch up missing 5 days!
Annmarie & Tom, Nancy & Bruce  Happy (belated) Anniversary!
well, I know I will be doing mine alone...DH thinks I am NUTS!!! "What are you going to do with all that junk?" Party Pooper!
Susan
I haven't broken the news to my husband yet. He does have a lot of Grumpy tee shirts. He should get along well with your DH.
I told him to get on her and talk to all of you, but he won't. Oh well he is not much for typing.
It looks like all of our DH's will get along!
me, me. Please.
Congratulations:banana:
I'm bringing along on this cruise my DBFF Gail. It is her very first cruise - of any kind!
It is so fun to bring someone along who has never experienced a cruise, let alone, a Disney Cruise. But our favorite thing was always the show, Disney Dreams.
I am going to spend a day of solitude tomorrow.
Susan
You will be in my thoughts
Good morning everyone - happy Friday!
I'm ready to enjoy this 3 day weekend. Mark has to work today so I'm on my own. Thinking of heading out to the mall for a little shopping.
Thanks for all the prayers. I know they are helping!
Stay strong, we will be wishing for high platelet counts for you this Monday.
I'm sure I missed some stuff, you all have been a chatty group. We will be cruising before we know it!

Ravonne,
Welcome home. Your comments were too funny. Grumpy..yep, that's DH. Only when it comes to spending money and dragging stuff with me, and putting stuff in closets, well, stuff in general, I guess!
I loved AKL too, but didn't buy there because it is just too dark for me...must be my old age...can't see without light. But we have stayed prior to AKL being the DVC in the concierge's and it was FABULOUS...we were given a tour of the large suites, can't think of what they were called, but it is where Kelly Ripa has stayed, and Michael Jackson...and our concierge staff was so wonderful...gave us gifts, arranged for special things, like DH being the Veteran of the Day at MK for the flag ceremony.
We stayed in May at the Kidani and loved it too. But again, too dark for me.
I think it is beautiful. Loved the pool at Kidani and my little grandson loved the water area and the canons.
We love the food at California Grill. When we are on the DDP, we always try to get ressies there. But I will say that my dinner at Palo's was even better than anything I have had at Ca Grill. Might have just been what I ordered at Palo's, but it was to die for! I love food.
Can't wait to meet you on the cruise!
Blessings,
Susan

Well, had a nice quiet day to myself. Just laid around in bed and watched tv, played with Riley my 5 pound Maltese, napped, and thought a lot about my own mortality and how quickly lives change...and then the phone woke me at 1pm...WHAT 1pm, what am I doing home on my holiday????
So, showered, and got an Angus burger to go at McDonald's, then a pineapple sundae at Dairy Queen, parked under a shade tree and inhaled that sundae and then off to the Disney outlet...
Ok, so, I am going to bore you with the details. I bought a whole bunch, and then decided to go back in and buy more! The first time there was no one in line to pay. The second time, the line was about 25 deep, so I shopped some more until the line went down...it was great. Sales plus 40 to 60% off the sale prices...so here is what I got:
White Enchanted Wedding Gown 29.99 reg price 79.50
Enchanged silver shoes 8.99, reg price 25.00
4 pairs of long sleeve, long leg pj's all for 14.36 reg price 50.00
Sleeping Beauty nightgown 8.00 reg price 34.50
Ariel nightgown 5.99 reg price 29.50
Ariel nightgown 5.99 reg price 19.50

Toys PVC figures 8.00 reg price 12.50
Total price 182.22
Reg price 534.50
savings 352.28
ok, you can double check my math...but I did use the calculator
I had so much FUN...I love sales. Most of it will be put away for Christmas.
I got the princess gown for Makayla for our Christmas trip...all of her princess dresses are a size 2/3 and she will be 5 in Jan...but they all still fit, just they are now tea length...she will love this beautiful white gown...I will take her to BBB and have one of those hair styles with the hair pieces in it...she will really think she is the cat's meow.
Gave Cameron his light up Tigger sneaks and sunglasses tonight...he doesn't talk real well, just sentences, but he said WOW WOW WOW...and "that's funny". He was quite thrilled with his shoes and sunglasses.
Then I came home and fortunately DH had just gotten home with DS from golf and they had a good day. I brought the 3 huge bags of stuff in and told him I bought stuff for Christmas, DS said that was a good idea...DH said, oh, good...WHAT???? The grinch said good? Oh well, goes to show you what a day of golf with the boys will do for you...
And then we sat down and had some cheese and crackers and talked about life..then I decided to add up my savings...and here I am....
and that's all I have to say about that!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Feels like Sat to me, and I will be all nutsed up by Monday!

Yep, the best thing about the day was a sleeping, happy lion...don't wake the lion whatever you do!
Never had the brunch at Palo's...I don't do well with buffets...I stuff myself until I feel like I need an ambulance! But, we have reservations for the brunch and I can't wait...never was able to get ressies there for brunch and the pictures everyone is posting look WONDERFUL...
I am just so anxious to find out what our theme is, and then I guess on the ship we find out who our guests of honor are...I would have loved to have met Marty Sklar...I think that's his correct name. I have seen in on the travel channel and discover channel shows about Disney and he amazes me...and to have known Mr. Disney..WOW.
I am in my bedroom right now, flanked by about 8 big Mickey pictures, drawings, and a wooden Mickey on the wall, a stock certificate with Mickey on it, about 25 Mickey figures, and my MICKEY MOUSE TV....my grandkids always ask me why my tv has Mickey ears!! HA HA:lmao: Gotta love it
I think I may go back to the Disney Store tomorrow and see what they might have put out...like EARLY when it opens! Need to find some things for my FE's!

Good morning everyone - happy Saturday!
Had a nice quiet day yesterday. Watched some TV in the morning then headed out to my local outdoor mall. Did a lot of walking around, people watching, shopping and looking at things. Didn't buy very much. I went with two things in mind and only got one. The one I couldn't get is my favorite perfume called Laila from Norway. I first got it down in Epcot and love it. I've since picked it up at Nordstrom's but they are doing some remodeling in ours and I couldn't find it. Oh well I'm not out and it will give me an excuse to buy in in September!
Rest of the day just kind of chilled and even took a nap. A nice low pressure day.
We don't really have any plans for today. Might walk to the parade but that will be about it.
Hope everyone enjoys the holiday!

I am sitting here watching the show Wedding Day on TNT and the tears are falling down my checks.
The wedding they are planning is for two solders that just came back from Iraq. They have been engaged since 2004 but have not been together for 10 months. This could not be more perfect to watch this on the 4th. They so deserve it.

Mary, sounds like you had my same kind of day...with one exception...I spent too much money! I have to check out your perfume. I splurged one time in France and bought perfume and I still have some of it. Lately, I have this one called Beach by Bobbi Brown...it smells just like that smell from we were kids and used Coppertone at the beach...it smells so so good and just brings back memories. I used to love the smell of Coppertone.
Flo, you are such a sweetie...working at the VA, these young kids that come in who served in Iraq look so so young. I am used to caring for WWII, Korea and Viet Nam era vets. My uncle was shot down over Nagasaki when he was only 20. He was a fighter pilot and left a young wife and baby. DH retired from Air Force and our son is in Air Force. So far, his job has kept him stateside. He works on fighter planes.
It is beautiful again today. Sunny, no humidity, nice breeze..just a perfect day. Won't go to the fireworks...after seeing them in WDW, it is a disappointment. No plans except this evening might play mini golf with grandson, DS and DDIN.
Happy 4th of July everyone. Have a wonderful day!
Blessings,
Susan

Most people have a favorite perfume - I have about 15. Strong likes and dislikes - but in the "likes" I have quite a range.
Anyway, we'll come back to that. After one of our earlier WDW vacations (1993), I must have used a new Lancome face cream for the first time, because every time I put it on, once I got home, I would flashback to standing in front if the mirror at OKW - a very happy place.
Ever since, I've "used" that awareness to create new flashback opportunities. I bought a perfume in Epcot/France in 1998. I thought it would always remind me of Epcot, but because I took it Medjugorje, it is that experience that floods my memory when I use it.
Fast forward to the DVC member cruise 2007 - I had been spritzing myself with Leila whenever in Epcot/Norway for many years - always thinking that I would eventually buy it. Supposedly, you could only get it at Epcot, on the cruise and in Norway (today, you can also get it online). I bought it early in the cruise (at least I saved sales tax), used it every day - and now, whenever I use it at home, whoosh - I have a DVC member cruise flashback (great stuff!!). (Note, it wasn't available on May 23, 2009 cruise - don't know if it was a co-incidence or not).
I also bring home as many shampoos from the cruise as I can - which I use daily (until they run out) - again, another temporary flashback-mini-vacation.
I also buy a soap from Basin, use it during the vacation time, then bring it (and a couple of back ups) home - every time I wash my hands, whoosh - you get the idea!!!
The concept here is - if you want to create this association, buy it early and use it throughout the vacation (rather than waiting until the end and not using it until you get home). Pleasant flashbacks are nice mini-vacations throughout the day. Kind of like the smell of pine and the association of Christmas trees......

OMG, I was afraid I'd never be able to chat again. For some reason, I've been unable to log in for weeks. Today, after trying for probably the fourth or fifth time, I FINALLY was able to change my password and log on. So, hi everybody! Happy belated birthdays and anniversaries, too.
Prayers have been said for Mary and Susan; so sorry to hear about what's happened.
We spent a week at the beach in early June (Emerald Isle in NC, one of my very favorite places) and DGD1 decided she didn't need any more help in walking. She went from baby pinball (bouncing off of all the furniture) to walking all around the beach house just like that. Now every day she's saying new words. She's just the joy of my life right now.
As for Flo's question, we have always gone to Parrot Cay for lunch because DH's tolerance for eating while sweating is very low. We also like not having to walk around w/trays. But if we had little ones w/us, I'll bet poolside would be the place for us.
Am I correct in thinking that we won't have a group bus? I think we'll probably go w/Disney transportation if so (mental note: call DVC to arrange for bus).

You are correct there is not bus. BUt as it turns out allot of us are taking the Magical Express so we may still have allot of us on one bus.

Tigger light up sneakers 5.99 reg price 19.50
Susan

That's great! DD took DGS who is 2 to fireworks, well not into the park, but nearby where they could see them easily, and I thought he would freak at the noise...nope..WOW, WOW, WOW...his favorite word..he loved them. So maybe he will be ok at Wishes in December. It is so beautiful here in PA...no air conditioner, no humidity, nice breeze coming in the windows...so peaceful.
You know how when a door closes, God opens a window? Well, I had contacted one of my girlfriends from high school...class of 1968, who moved right after HS and lives in the midwest...on facebook and told her about our friend's husband and now we have re-established our friendship after all these years. It is so wonderful...we just picked up where we left off...we know each other so well and that is comforting. Just love that girl!

How great Flo, to be able to walk out your door and watch the fire works! We were lazy and chose to watch the New York fire works (Macy's) display on TV. WOW! I could almost smell the smoke!
Speaking about scents, I love the smell of the ocean, that somewhat musty, salty, warm, sandy smell. Have you ever had a balcony stateroom and kept the door open all night?
I do love the Basin also! But, my DH won't go in, to overwhelming for him, thats good though, because I can go in and touch and smell it all to my hearts content.:rotfl:

Breaking News: Deadly Disney World Monorail Crash
POSTED: Sunday, July 5, 2009
At 2am Sunday morning, Reedy Creek Emergency Services responded to a call at the Ticket and Transportation Center at the Magic Kingdom. Two monorails collided. 8 people were evaluated total following the crash. One monorail driver was killed. The other driver is fine physically. There were 5 to 6 guests on the monorail at the time of the crash. Disney World Public Relations tells Local 6 that they will release more information later this morning. They are on scene right now gathering information about the incident.
A witness tells Local 6 that he heard a huge crashing noise when the monorails collided. He was able to get pictures and video of frazzled guests walking off the train.
Another report indicates that a moving pink train hit a stationary purple train.
Local 6 has obtained dramatic pictures from the scene of the crash. Stay with Local 6 for more information about this crash.

I found the following statement,
When the train detects there are fewer than two holdpoints between itself and the preceding train, the emergency brakes are immediately applied and cannot be released until sufficient spacing becomes available, or the operator explicitly overrides the system.

Well, I am still toying with moving the first 2 nights of my December trip to a non-DVC resort. Since my trip starts on a Friday (10 nights Kidani), I have been toying with moving the first 2 nights to a deluxe (preferrably) or moderate resort that I haven't stayed at before.
I keep watching for the AP rates to come out, but nothing yet. I just went on the WDW website and priced it out and for the prices of the GF or the Poly, I won't be staying there unless there is an excellent discount. However, the moderate prices aren't that bad. So maybe I will make a switch. :rolleyes1

To add a bit of technical about that horrible accident. Reports are, that being the last run of the night at 2am, and they were moving monorails off the beam, the collision detection system was shut off which also locks the monorails down to 15mph.
After reading this report (http://www.attractionsmagazine.com/blog/2009/07/05/the-latest-on-the-early-morning-crash-between-two-disney-monorails/)(Thanks Karen), sounds like he may have been resting in his cockpit after working long shifts for the holiday, waiting his turn to park it for the night when he got run into. :(

Found this on the disscussion part. My heart goes out to the family and friends and prayers to.

I couldn't believe this!!!! How does something like this happen? My heart goes out to the families also. I guess any computer can fail. I saw the video that the person took and it was frightening.

Yes, and that is what I love about my Beach fragrance from Bobbi Brown..it's all that plus the Coppertone..MMMMM....and I can't get into the Basin myself. DH has to pick up everything and tap it, sniff it, look at it...even in the grocery store!!
Mary,
Thanks for the count down clock!;) WHen I get up on a Sunday morning I can't wait to turn my laptop on and see how many weeks till we will be on the

Where is the countdown clock?
Rain off and on, but it's Florida. Hot and humid, but I often see that it is hotter and more humid up north:lmao:
I live near the ocean, here is a link to the beach I go to; http://evsjupiter.netfirms.com/main.htm
I enjoy the beach but between work and home, I don't go nearly enough.
But that makes vacation even sweeter. I loved Mary's picture of Castaway Cay. I can't think of a better island to be on. Wouldn't it be great to stay overnight there?
Ravonne
Love your beach pics...beautiful. My parents lived at Surfside Beach in SC and they went there for the beach...but rarely went there! You are right, with work and home, they didn't go much at all. I used to go there and soak in the sun from sunup to sundown...that's what we did back then and now my skin is so damaged...the darker the better...loved it. And now I get a burn as soon as I go in the sun! My favorite beach was in Destin Fl, the Gulf Coast...so beautiful and peaceful.
Question of the day:
What would you like to see on the new ships that the Magic or Wonder do not currently have?
MORE SHOPS!!! MORE STUFF TO BUY. LOL. And I like the idea of the pools being covered in case of bad weather. But I would shop, not swim anyhow.

Congrats on the pirate:

Good morning everyone. I hope your 4th of July was safe and happy.
We opted to watch the fireworks from Boston. They always do such a great job. We can usually see the local ones from our back yard but we've been spoiled by Disney. :)
We love Basin as well and will have to stop by after the cruise and stock up. I also love the H20 brand they use on the ship. Used to have a store in the mall near us but it closed.
Oh, this is just so sad and must have been very frightening for the small group on board. Thank heaven it happened at a time when not many riders were aboard. There is a picture of the damage also at http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/05/u.s.disney.monorail/
Thanks Flo for letting us know about this.
Very sad indeed. I think the late hour and long days the drivers were working had a lot to do with it.
Question of the day:
What would you like to see on the new ships that the Magic or Wonder do not currently have?
I would like to see the new ships outfitted to make an Alaskan cruise more enjoyable. Or they could refit the Magic or Wonder to do that.
So sad about the CM, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
We are leaving in a little while for the funeral home a dear friend, a retired :firefight firefighter, who my DH and DS had worked with. Died of natural causes. Totaly unexpected.:sad:
Have to get there early since DH can not walk very far, just yet.:sad:
Service is tomorrow, So I took the morning off from work.
Sorry to hear about your friend. to you and DH.
So, I think we need another sunrise on the Wonder

Beautiful shot Ray - thanks for sharing!
:rolleyes1

Well, I have been thinking about driving to WDW for one of my trips instead of flying, mostly for the adventure of it. My target trip had been my Aug '10 trip with my nephew but he wasn't so keen on driving. (Its about a 20 hour drive from here.) So as I was driving down to visit my mother today, my mind was going over the options. Since it is a 1.5 hour drive, I have lots of time to think.
Anyways, since Sandi is going with me on the cruise, if we drove then I would haev 2 drivers (versus just 1 for my solo December trip). Well I called Sandi and she is game. So now we just need to figure out when we would leave and get back. This does mean that I may cancel our BCV reservation for the night before because in the scenarios that we are looking at, we would arrive in the early evening on Saturday so we may jsut want to stay near the port.

Hi everyone!
Back home from the Poconos. DH and DS survived Boy Scout camp and had a fabulous time. Went to the Kutztown Folk Festival on Saturday - it was a beautiful day and the fair was great! Definitely ate too much but the foods were fantastic! UMMMM funnel cake!
DH has been sitting behind me as we caught up with all of the news and he said he'd like to see either a "flo-rider" (that surfing like wave pool thing) or a climbing wall. I think the covered pool would be nice - like one of those retractable glass roofs.
Congrats, Flo and Ravonne on the ES and Pirate! Yeah, Ravonne now we finally have one each!! :yay:

Okay, I'm a little behind, but OMG, how terrible. I just can't believe that this happened. How sad for the family of the CM driving the monorail. We were literally shocked when we saw this. I never ever thought this could happen. Like Flo said, we thought there were crash devices to divert a collision. So sad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. :sad1:

Sue - It usually takes us 23 hours drive time from Central Iowa. We have been leaving home around 2:30 in the morning and driving to Atlanta, GA. We usually stop around 6-7:00 pm. Talk about a long day. Last time we drove, March of 2008, was when the tornado went through downtown Atlanta, and we were driving in it! And I was driving. Scary ! :scared1:
The only good thing is we get up early the next day and the drive is not that bad then. We get to Disney by 12-1:00pm. And when they say Welcome Home, it is so worth it! :yay:

Robbie - we love driving down and the Member Cruise is the perfect time for it. You won't have to worry how to get some of those gifts (which in the past have been large) on the plane.
We usually take 2 days. First day we leave super early (like 4 am) and drive as far as Macon, GA. The next day we leave early (about 5 am) and get into Disney early afternoon.
If you are coming down 95 and getting in Saturday evening you would be better off staying at the port. Some stay at the Radisson as they allow parking there while on the cruise. We've stayed there before and it isn't bad. Our last couple of trips (not Member Cruises) we've stayed at the Hampton Inn. Easy access to the beach which we like to go to in the morning before heading over to the port. It even includes breakfast.
As for December we'll just miss you as we head home on the 3rd.

I tried to dance like I used to dance at the wedding two weeks ago...you know, the electric slide, and land of a thousand dances...and my knees just wouldn't do what I wanted them to do...I was like DARN knees...but I had fun anyway.

I have a question which I am pretty sure I already know the answer to but I am going to ask it anyway.
Dress policy at dinner.... No shorts.....Are kids not permitted to wear dress shorts at dinner? I believe a while back I read somewhere that shorts were not permitted at the restaurants for dinner.
Can someone please confirm whether this is accurate.
This is not an issue for DD as she would probably be wearing one of her dresses. DS is another story. He is going to hate it if he has to wear pants on vacation. :confused3
If this is true I better start getting him used to the idea now.
UPDATE: When booking our transportation from WDW to Port today, I inquired with the CM assisting me regarding the dress policy for children. He did some research for me and found that anyone age 13 or under is permitted to wear shorts as long as they are appropriate. They ask the parents/guardians to use their best judgement in determining what is appropriate. No cuts offs of course. This is not a problem as DS will have dress shorts and shirts. I am so relieved.
At the age of 10, DS is 5' 3 1/2" and 145 lbs so everything he wears is adult sizes. I have to get all his pants altered so as you can imagine he does not have too many options. As fast as he grows nothing lasts more than one season.
