Is there any chance that DCL will ever have a cruise ship leaving from the New York City port? I know Florida & California make sense due to the WDW & Disneyland proximity, but I can dream, can't I?!:p
Just the thought of not dealing with air travel would be heavenly. We would definitely cruise more often! :D

Sometime in October of 2001 (I know that because my computer was out for repair and it had just been returned!) I received an email survey from Disney, triggered, I assume, by my cruise in May, 2001.
The subject was about a potential new cruise ship and new itinerary, and it focused on the number of days I would be likely to cruise, and whether or not I would take a cruise from NY, and if Bermuda would be a destination I would consider (of course, I answered yes to the last two questions, and chose the longest number of days they offered in the survey.
I imagine they targeted that email to me because I'm in New Jersey, and I would imagine people closer to other ports would have gotten similar questionnaires regarding ports close to their homes.
I think it would be great! I used to love to watch the cruise ships sail out of New York when I was little. In fact, if I'm on the beach where I live now on the right days and at the right times, they still sail right past!

I was actually on the new Prinsendam from Holland America today for a tour while it was in NYC. The port is very convenient to get to, but traffic within the terminal entrance and exit is horrendous. They really need to do something about the traffic patterns.

We would LOVE a DCL cruise out of NY harbor!! That would save us money on airfare!! We would definitely cruise more often. I hope that DCL considers NY because of the many people that would go on it!!

I think there would be a huge market for DCL in New York. Not everyone want to tie in DL or WDW vacation....most just want to cruise!!!!! And what better way than with DCL.
Out of New York would be icing on the cake!!!

and the other months when its too cold to go out of NY they can go out of California. The 2 coasts will be happy.
Not a bad deal to turn the Wonder into a 7 night cruise ship to do that.

Julia, I know you are kidding... since you're from Buffalo, you know that ships as large as the major cruise ships can't fit through the locks in the St Lawrence Seaway. There are about a half-dozen ships that do cruises on the Great Lakes now. They look pretty cool... but not as cool as DCL!
Hey... maybe somebody could buy up Premier's old Red Boats and sail them on the Great Lakes. I think those old boats would fit through the locks!

Maybe there is hope. Our local paper (Newsday) had an article in todays travel section that cruise ships are returning to NY. They state that the Carnival Legend will be launching a new cruise on the Carnival Legend starting next spring, for an 8 day caribbean cruise out of NY and Norwegian will alos start next year with the Dawn going to Florida and the Bahamas. I checked the Carnival Legend itinerary and it is 4 sea days and a stop in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Tortola B.V.I. The stop in Tortola is only from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Puerto Rico stop is from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Couldn't find info on the Norwegian Dawn.
So maybe Disney will one day come to NY if the market is good.
Build it and we will sail!

Received my Castaway Club package today (sailed on the 5/11 Western) They also include a one page questionaire, one of the questions was: On your next Disney cruise where would you most like to sail. Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Asia, Alaska BUT the one I marked was OTHER (please specify) so of course I put in Bermuda. Hey what better way to get there than on DCL from the East coast, whether it be NY, MD, MA.
So if anyone gets that questionaire, maybe we can all put Bermuda for an East Coast experience. Hey like the NY lotto slogan, "You never know".

We went on the April 14 4-day Wonder and there were so many people from New England on the cruise that it would have been much easier to pick us all up at Boston Harbor. :smooth:
