I am thinking about renting points for a DVC studio (Sun to Thurs), then paying cash for either a DVC studio so we don't move or a moderate resort (Fri and Sat).

If I do a split stay between a dvc studio (renting points) with DP and a moderate resort with DP, do my DP credits expire when I change reservations/resorts?

If I do a linked reservation staying at a dvc studio (renting points) and a dvc studio (paying cash), do my DP credits expire when I change reservations?

Thanks.

With a split stay between a DVC and a moderate, where the DVC stay is first, the credits for the DVC stay will expire at midnight of the day you check out of the DVC resort. You would then, unless you have an annual pass, need to buy at least a one-day park ticket with the moderate reservation to get the dining plan on that reservation. The credits for that reservation would be active as soon as you checked into the moderate and would expire at midnight of the day you checked out.

I have no knowledge about a linked points/cash reservation at DVC, in fact I didn't even know that could be done.

I completely missed the need for two park tickets for two reservations, if each reservation includes the DP. A split stay (for me/us) means only one reservation will have the DP because it is not worth the cost of an additional single park ticket.

I won't disagree with someone who has 20,000 posts. However, my understanding is the reason why DVC adjusted their point charts for 2010 (increasing points Sunday to Thursday, and reducing points Friday and Saturday) is DVC owners found it cheaper to rent rooms for cash on Friday and Saturday than use their points.

I used to do that but I wouldn't pay cash for DVC rooms. I'd move to Pop Century. Am not aware that DVC members can link a points/cash reservation but it would make sense.

"Link" as in they don't need to change rooms or check-out, then check-in a 2nd time. I have no idea how it might impact their use of DP credits.

I don't think you need to have park tickets to get the DDP while staying at a DVC resort on points. So when you switch to cash you can book a MYW package paying cash for the room and adding tickets to the package.
