Platycodon and Wishbone (torenia) flowers. They are so unusual and I hope they will grow well. I've never seen these around here. Anybody know anything about these?

Hi Snuggles the Wishbone Flower is a kind of tubular violet. It's grown as a annual and will flower the whole summer. It likes moist soil, semi-shade and it likes a little shelter. It's height should be around 12 inches.

The Platycodon is called the ballon flower, it's a perennial and will multiply. They usually come in a shade of blue, but there are pink and white varities. with heights of 20-36 inches. They flower in the summer, like sun and a rich well drained soil. I have a blue variety and I need to stake them. I use circular stakes that work great.

kids love the ballon flower. Just before they open very gently pop them and they make a popping noise. Sounds like a tiny ballon popping, really cute.Susan

Hi snuggles! :)

I planted some Torenia in a container last year, it did quite well. Like Mamu said, they prefer semi-shade and some protection, so I kept it on our deck.

Thanks for the info Mamu. I suppose I'll have to move the balloon flowers from where they are now. I had no idea they would get that big! Its great to have a board like this to get tips and info from.

Now I've got to go and find a photo of these flowers because they sound interesting.

I like this new forum too, Ann.
