Cat Cora is opening a Mediterranean style restaurant that will replace Spoodles later this year. I hope she keeps the Pizza window open in some regard. We love grabbing a beer and a slice after returning from EPCOT at night and sitting out on the boardwalk. Does anyone have any further details as to what the changes will be?

This is news to me. However, I love the style of Cat Cora's food so will look forward to this.

I thought Spoodles was a popular restaurant? At least it's being replaced by something as nice. Where did you hear this?

I have always found Spoodles to be inconsistent in regards to food quality and presentation. I welcome this change. :)

I love Cat Cora - Sounds like fun but I wanted to try Spoodles. Where did you hear this?

It's on the newswire:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Chef Cat Cora and Disney are joining together to open an exciting new family dining restaurant at Disney's BoardWalk Resort. Kouzzina by Cat Cora will feature a menu of Mediterranean-style cuisine that pays tribute to the chef's Greek roots.

The restaurant, to be owned and operated by Disney, is scheduled to open by fall 2009 in the space currently occupied by Spoodles.

I'm glad it will be a Disney resturant as opposed to outsourcing it like they have all over property.

I'm actually shocked its not outsourced, and I think outsourcing things like restaraunts are a good thing when it comes to Disney Standardization effects. The places that are not owned/operated by Disney tend to offer better meals.

I hope they keep serving breakfast.

We only got pizza at Spoodles, but the Boardwalk needs a pizza joint, right??

I thought I heard that the ESPN Zone was supposed to move from the Boardwalk to DTD? If that's true, they could still have a small pizza shop open - what's a Boardwalk w/o pizza???

I don't have a problem with outsourcing as long as it is not to a chain a la Rainforest Cafe. It seems unDisney to offer something that is available in numerous cities around the country.

I think this is a great addition. I love watching Iron Chef America, and I think Cat Cora is a great chef. It's not that I didn't enjoy Spoodles, but I think this change is a positive one.

I think it will be a good change. I like Spoodles, but sometimes change is good. Cat Cora is a good chef, I'm sure her restaurant will be pretty good!

Ditto. There has been a big change in the last few years. The service and food quality has been inconsistant. I think this is great news!

I love Mediteranean food, it taps into so many different cusines! Something new to look forward to, I wonder what the time frame will be for the transition, (closing & reopening)?

The best restaurants tend to be those that are outsourced. Disney really isn't very good with food.

It seems to me Spoodles had a Mediterranean flare, didn't it?
My favorite type of restaurant is probably Greek. When we lived in Spokane we ate Greek several times a week.
Where we are now the Greek food sucks.

Anyone heard firm dates on when Spoodles goes dark or when Cat's opens?

I hope they have a walk-up window with good food. We were so disappointed with our pizza last year from Spoodles. It was like eating cardboard.

I have to disagree regarding Disney run resturants being sub par. Unless I'm mistaken Le Celler, California Grill, Jiko, Boma just to name a few are some of the best dining options WDW has to offer. All are Disney owned and operated.

RainForest Cafe, T-Rex are chain type resturants that you can eat at back in your home town. I'm for Disney operating as many places as possible. JMHO

Me, too. Disney is much easier to work with with food allergies than chain restaurants who get a lot of stuff pre-packaged.

I actually wrote Cat, and she wrote me back..
Nothing to say currently until more information known closer to Fall/Winter, is what she says..
She'll be posting it on her website as news..
Given that she's also pregnant, I'm sure she's quite busy! so, probably no news till later this year I bet

We ate breakfast and dinner at Spoodles last fall and again two weeks ago. Food and service were both top notch. They even e-mailed me a recipe for their Rigatoni dinner...... which I've already used.:cool1:

Over the years we have had decent dining experiences at Spoodles. However, we were there Christmas Eve and the meal was poor. The worst I had experienced. I have heard mixed reviews about Spoodles over the last couple of years.

I hope they have a pizza window somewhere. I agree it would not be the Boardwalk without pizza. It is excellent.

BUt change is good. I agree with the folks who are glad it is a Disney restaurant.

As for ESPN Zone moving. Now that Virgin Mega Store is closing at the end of may at DTD, the rumors of an ESPN zone move may happen. We will have to wait and see.

Hey now! They make a killer hamburger! Spice it up with a slice of cheese and...WOW!!

I won't miss Spoodles. Over the years, the quality of both the food and the service has declined. I'm really looking forward to its replacement!
I also heard that ESPN was moving to DTD (on this board, I think :confused3). At that time, I wrote that all or part of the space should be converted into a decent CS restaurant :thumbsup2. Having been a BW owner for about a dozen years, it's the one thing that I've always missed.:sad2:

ESPN is not moving according to the people that work there. They recently signed a long term lease to stay.
