A bump and a question:

The one shore excursion I want to book for the family is FULL (figures!) It's the "Cozumel Highlights and Mayan Ruins" What are the chances of any spots opening up? It sounds like people are less likely to book and cancel with the excursions than with, say, spa or dinner ressies, is this true? Are they harder to cancel--did I read that you can only cancel up until a few days BEFORE sailing?

So since it's full should I book a different one? I'm thinking the ""Cozumel Ruins and Beach Tour" though it doesn't sound quite as perfect for our particular crew...If I book this one though can I then cancel it if spaces in the other open up?

And last has anyone done any of these? My goal is to bring the kids (5, 7, 10) to see the Mayan Ruins. They're studying the Mayan culture a bit in school. I prefer to stay with a DCL excursion in Cozumel...

Jen-This is the excursion that we finally decided on, but after procrastinating for so long, there were no spots available Don't have a 'Plan B' yet.

Steph-Trevor is VERY excited to be going on another cruise...this will be the second one. He is a mega Disney fan. The picture was from the Princess Fantasy Faire at Disneyland.

Nessa-That was quite the storm, we saw reports of it on the news. Glad to hear that you're recovering.

Debbie-Love that picture of your family, all of our family photos have at least one child with a silly look on their face!

The GTKY questions were such a good idea. It was fun reading them

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I am doing the Tulum Ruins and Beach tour ($99 adult/$75 ages 5-9) It is an all day tour of the ruins + time at nearby beach. No changing rooms (wear bathing suits under clothes). It is a DCL tour so you know they will hold the ship for your return (as you boat to the mainland then bus to ruins) Lunch is included.

I seriously need a vacation. It is pouring here and I just can't get motivated to do anything. The clothes are piling up, there is enough dog hair to make another dog. Love my border collie but he is losing the summer coat while the winter one grows in. I vacuum and sweep every day and it looks like I haven't done it in 3 weeks. :scared1:

I also typed out the drama of my commute home last night but decided to remove it as it involved a death and not sure anyone really wants to hear it. So let's just say, I REALLY need a vacation. And for the record, I take a train so I didn't kill anyone.

Now I'll go see if I can post a family picture.

Was shocked this a.m. to find a cabin # on my reservation! It is Cat 9 - YAY!?! It is on Deck 1 though by the Tender Lobby. Has anyone stayed there?

Allison,
Hope it wasn't anyone you knew. We had rain on all last week. There is a strange yellow orb in the sky and everyone is freaking out! I am so ready for a vacation but I'm going to by super busy at work before and after we go so it will be bitter sweet.

I'll sign up for Shutterfly or Photobucket this weekend and get some photos posted.

I know the feeling. The dog in my picture is a miniature Border Collie/Black Lab mix. She looks like she's falling apart right now. No matter how much I brush her with the shredder comb she looks bad again the next day. Her coat is black, but with all the shedding she looks grey. We got rid of all the carpet downstairs and now all the fur goes to the edges of the rooms where we just have to pick it up.

Thanks, but no one I knew. Someone just used NJ Transit to end things. Truly stinks for the man driving the train. And for those of us on the train. Of course the poor man driving the train can actually get sued personally by the family. Its always amazed me that there isn't a law against that. :sad2:

Great pics Allison! And that is just HORRIBLE about your commute:sad1: Ugh.

I think I've finally settled on Tulum for our excursion...(we'll see ya there duck addict! :) ) I was thinking San Gervasio but it looks like the Tulum ruins are worth the extra time and money--I figure we likely won't make it back to mexico while the kids are young so we might as well make the most of it...

We just got this room assigned to us, which is great an upgrade to 10. However everything I've read about this room says its horrible. Very noisy. Anybody have any idea, or stayed in this room. I also want to call tomorrow about getting another room, do you think this is possible? In no way want to complain, just want to head off any problems if I can.

I wouldn't worry about the room Erin. If its located in the back of the ship, any room back there will hear the engines noise as its going into port. Just remember that if you call to complain you could be put into another stateroom that may not be a Cat. 10. And if I think I remember correctly, there are only 3 of you traveling. You could be put back into a Cat. 12 which does not have a split bath. The only review I saw was from 5 years ago. I wouldn't worry about it.
And yes, it will be noisy entering port. We had a Cat. 6 in the back of the boat and it was noisy. That was the only complaint so I wasn't complaining. Relax and don't get worried.

There was only 1 stateroom report for my room and it was from 2007. I did a thread search from the main page for room xxxx and got a ton more information from families that had stayed in multiple rooms and so they didn't post individual stateroom reports. Give that a try.

What an amazing surprise :cool1:

Everything for our big trip & wedding is pretty on track (super pleased with myself today as I finished off my FIL’s & parents FE gifts for them, now we just have to finish ours :lmao:) I am a completely list obsessed person and I love being able to cross everything off.

The last big thing for the trip we need to decide is... day trips, and which ports we want to see, does anyone have any suggestions of a must see?

Oh and I have another question, I saw on the planning DVD that we have fireworks when we are at sea, does anyone know if this only happens once and by chance if it’s possible to find out when it will happen?

Almost finished my GTKY questions and just a couple of quick FE updates before I forget…..

1) Unless anyone has any objections I was thinking cut off could be a month before we sail, i.e October 28th? Would that be ok or should we give it another week or so?
2) Latest counts are:
17 Families
22 to 24 staterooms
Kids total at this stage = 18
Girls - 3, 5, 5, 6 , 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8, 9, 11, 12 = 15 total
Boys - 3, 11, 13, 17 = 4 total

3) What would be great is if everyone could send me an email (my email address is vhodgson79@hotmail.com) as the subject could you have your username and then FE List.
(so if I emailed myself the subject would be : Nessa FE List) then I will reply to your email with the excel spreadsheet. I will sent it through a few days after cut off.

4) I have a few updates to add into the sheet now and then once we decide on a cut off, I will send out to you all a few days after that date.

Nessa,
I think a month before hand would be excellent. :thumbsup2 DH is in such a planning stage right now that I think his head is going to explode. :rotfl2: DD was like "Daddddddd, why are you getting so excited?" Dang kid needs a job and real pressure to understand the need for vacation. Of course she's only 9 so I think we'll cut her some slack for a few more years. :rotfl2:

Fireworks at Sea - They are held on Pirate Night only unless it's raining. The fireworks come at the very tail end of the pirate party. Then after the fireworks they open up the buffets. :thumbsup2 As you can tell from the previous pictures I posted, we do dress up. Not many adults dress up but we have fun and got a really great picture! And as Halloween is at the end of the month, everything goes half price on November 1st!! :thumbsup2

I think I'm going to start packing soon too. My sewing room is the packing room so I can't start packing till all the sewing is done. Almost finished with a vest for DH for semi-formal night and working on a gown for me for formal night & if there is enough time a dress for semi-formal night. (I'd like to do something for pirate night too but have to see how time pans out) Don't get to do many formal things so I am going all out for the cruise. I don't have real strict packing restrictions since we are driving down. The stuff just has to fit in the car.

we are also in late seating! After many times doing early seating and trying late seating once...we have finally made the move for good. Found that the kids didn't do better or worse at late vs. early and the late gives us a better flow of the day and more time in ports or to relax after getting back from ports.

We are just holding our breath hoping everyone stays healthy between now and the cruise. There are so many bugs flying around school, it makes me nervous. And once we get onboard the ship, the kids BETTER be bathing in purell for the whole trip so they don't bring anything funky home.

We are also on the late seating, seemed to be the most popular way to go from what I read on the boards. Will try and get a brunch booked once onboard! Dh is travelling up north to Sudbury next week for his work and the weather station is saying up to 15 centimetres of snow for that area! We are late seating - which I think will work fine since my younger kids are not big fans of a 1-2 hour meal which means they can eat and then got to the kids club while DH and I relax with wine and quiet table!! Just hope they can stay awake at the club? Or is there an area they can curl up and fall asleep?

Packing - I know the daytime weather will be warm and I was planning on mostly summery stuff but then thinking the kids will want more comfy warmer clothes for the club, right? I picked up some cute new skirts, dresses, etc, at end of summer for the girls (thinking coordinated picture outfits) but now wondering if they will want/need to wear long sleeve shirts/pants at night - both outside walking the ship and at the club? I know the days are shorter now as compared to summer so sun should be setting like 6pm by then (maybe earlier?). I am famous for overpacking and really trying not to but don't want to spend too much time doing laundry. Plus we are surprising the kids so trickier to pack on the sly - hiding in my closet now but likely use my neighbors house to really lay things out before going in the suitcase. With family of 6 we will have lots of suitcases (plus room for FE stuff and souvenoirs!). Any suggestions/feedback appreciated.

Eeyore'sthebest

For the kids, pack the outfits in individual gallon sized ziplocs. This way its easy to grab a bag and the kids can get dressed with little fuss.

As to warm weather clothes, I wouldn't really bother. We went in January on our last cruise and brought a couple of pairs of leggings for DD. I think she put them on for the trip home. Otherwise, it was t-shirts and skorts or shorts for the entire trip. We all brought hoodies and wore them while in port in FL. Otherwise we were good to go. Only place it gets cold is the theater and the dining rooms. DD never complained of being cold in the club. Hope that helped.

Does anyone know if they ever do an upgrade (either automatic or a paid-for one via a phone call) if you're not GTY? We signed up in Cat 11 for a specific stateroom, but I've been considering an paying for an upgrade at port if available. But then I read that sometimes you get upgraded ahead of time anyhow (pixie dust, right?). We booked about 17 months ago, but did choose a room...just curious...

We are late seating - which I think will work fine since my younger kids are not big fans of a 1-2 hour meal which means they can eat and then got to the kids club while DH and I relax with wine and quiet table!! Just hope they can stay awake at the club? Or is there an area they can curl up and fall asleep?

.

There is definitely an area where they can curl up in the clubs. Either on a mat, or in a beanbag. My youngest has done it (the older one just goes to teh computer and plays games all night!)

Happy Wednesday all! DH finally finished the magnets for the door. :thumbsup2 He's very excited.

Allison -
I have some graphic to print for magnets but not sure best way to do it. Did your DH print on magnetic paper or regular, then laminate and attach magnets? I need to get this done soon and looking for suggestions on best way to do them.

Thanks-

Debbie - He printed on photo paper and then glued them to poster board for more support. We then cut them out and put strips of magnets on them. I wouldn't do the magnet paper because I would think it would be too costly. :confused3 I was going to go with regular paper and laminate but DH is a MacGyver type and over thinks everything. :lmao:

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiya fellow cruizers!

I've been very bad at posting lately *slaps wrist*...I swear my littliest doesn't want me responding...lol....Everytime I'd go to write a post...she's start climbing on me. Allison...have your pets been telling her the tricks....;) hehe

SO happy to see some more GTKY's. I've enjoyed learning a little about everyone....I feel like I know you a "little" better...:)

JEFF...You're back!!! We've missed you. Without getting myself put into timeout....I'll just say that I think it's all a little "over the top"...and I'll just leave it at that. I'm assuming it was over a post you made....and I just can't seem to figure out what was so bad about it...ANYWHO...I'm glad you came back...and hopefully you can be without the dunce cap at least until we sail....;)

As for us...
Like I've said a zillion times....We're e.x.c.i.t.e.d. I am also not an early packer...but with the season switch I too am contimpating packing away the summer stuff into the suitcase. It'll even be a welcomed change to the last minute frantic packing I'm sure....

38 days!!!! That is what my ressie said today when I logged in....WOOT! Oh, and I was curious so I called to see how much an upgrade would cost (to a cat. 3) and they said 5,000+....Whoa. No thanks. teehee

I also asked about which movies would be playing...here is what the CM told me...
Christmas Carol 3D (ummm 3D??? lol)
Toy Story 3D
Surrogate
G-Force 3D
The Proposal
Up
Hannah Montana Movie

On the Disney Movie website, it show's that John Travolta one released right before we go so I would expect that one to be played. Hope that helps!

I have to admit that I did start to pack only because I too didn't want to pack them up and then get them back out again so I picked out what they would be taking and packed the rest.

I really need to get working on my door magnets. I bought magnets with plastic envelopes at the Dollar Store so I just need to pick out or make the graphics - sounds so time consuming.

Disneyholic, that's soooooo cool that you're MAKING all those clothes!!! Are you gonna post pics or do we have to wait and see em on the cruise?

I'm taking note of the movies and making sure we don't see the ones that will be playing (that we haven't already seen)--a bunch of them are on the list "to see" so I'm glad to know which ones to avoid for now... I missed Up in theatres--my kids and dh went without me--so I'm psyched that I'll get a second chance!!!

Hey, what do the kids wear to dinner on regular nights? More specifically the little BOYS. I'm wondering what I'm gonna pack for my 7 year old dude...He has plenty of polo's... but he has to wear PANTS not shorts? That's gonna be tough since most of his pants currently are ratty jeans...I think he has ONE pair of presentable khakis... The girls are easy cause they have dresses galore...Dress codes might just be the bane of my existence :upsidedow (in which case I'm not doin' too bad :rotfl2:)

We have the main seating for dinner. I've always had the late seating because it just made more sense (so you don't have to rush to get back on port days...etc.) when it was just Matt and I sailing. We have the early one this time because I feared it would be meltdown crazy with the 1, 3 and 6 year olds who are used to eating by 6:00. Even though I will probably have them do "fast dinners" like some people have mentioned, and then see if they want to go to the club so we can enjoy our meal.

Assuming they aren't full....Does anyone know how Flounders works with "hey, how about we drop off the baby now"...Can I do that without a "reservation"?

I really want to book in advance but every time I try and even consider it, I have no idea when I should do it without knowing the schedule etc. yanno??

The flounders people are relatively flexible (especially if you have a kid who does well there). We booked time in advance but then changed it several times and added times when we could. I'd recommend just booking one or two blocks of time in advance so that you are "in the system."

You'll probably have to wait till the cruise cause it will probably take all month to get everything done.

As far as what your boy should wear for dinner, take the khakis and have him get in them before dinner and change right after. He could probably wear them every night and if they get slopped on you could probably wash them out in the sink if you take a liquid type soap with you (shampoo would even do in a pinch as long as it doesn't have conditioner in it) At his age you could probably get away with some dressier shorts, too.

We signed up for the early dinner for the reason stated earlier...my kids are used to eating at 6 p.m. and couldn't possibly wait much longer to eat. They are little though and will still probably do the rush thru dinner. So Steph, you and I can go to the same bars/shows or whatever while the rest eat dinner!

We got our "boarding" shirts yesterday. I don't try to make us wear matching shirts but do try to make us wear something similar so we look good in the picture. Don't play mah jong

GTY means Guaranteed Category.
You do NOT get pick your room, but are guaranteed a room in the category you paid for. Often GTY bookings get an upgrade at no extra charge (I know I am getting on on this cruise  ) Be warned, you may not get one.
(When your room shows on line it will show what you PAID for, but then investigate the room number. Mine says cat 8 but is a cat 6 room)

I was guessing GTY was guarantee...I just couldn't figure out what was guaranteed ;) We were assigned a room number when we booked...must have been cause we booked so late?

Now I have another question BUT I still want to hear from any Mah Jong players! There must SOMEBODY else on the boat who plays? No?

Oh and Allison real-life Mah Jong is 100% a different game than the one online. So odd. :upsidedow

So my new question: coffee. I fancy myself a coffee snob (not really actually--I'm a fan of dark roast coffee :thumbsup2 ) Am I SOOL? Maybe bring a french press and my own beans and acquire hot water to brew it? :confused3 There's no snobby coffee on board and no other coffee maker options right?

Have played computer version of MahJong.

As far as coffee press and hot water, bring coffee press and order hot water for tea at breakfast or dinner or get hot water at beverage station. (they have hot water there for tea and cocoa)

I am new at this meet threads, but wondering if it makes sense (and is possible) to rename our thread (ie. take out the "Nanas Ride the Seas Again" ) from the thread? I know I was reluctant to read all the exchanges the first time I checked it out because sounded like it was a family reunion and everyone knew each other. I believe the "Nanas" are not even going on this cruise week if I remember (except Jeff).

Wondering if anyone agrees? Just kind of surprised that there are not more new people popping up - I assume the ship will be sold out?

Eeyore'sthebest

Morning all. I'll try to answer some questions.

1) Yes, DD pin trades. On the boat you trade, as in the parks, more with CMs. They wear their lanyards frequently. There are also pin trading events and DD has traded with other children there. I watch her like a hawk because she will trade anything with anybody and will get stuck with bad pins (non-Disney and untradeable) if I don't watch her. She hates to disappoint other people so she'll trade even if she doesn't want their pin. :confused3 Anyway, she usually trades and hands me her pins she traded for and then anything on the lanyard is tradeable. This way I know she isn't giving away something that she really wanted.

2) Yes, there is a coffee bar at the Cove Cafe. I believe you have to pay extra for the specialty coffee. I wouldn't go to the hassle of bringing a french press but that's just me.

3) GTY status - Jen you didn't get a GTY status because you picked your stateroom # directly. GTY is used when a category sells out, I believe, and that's the only category you want to book. For example, there are only 12 category 12 staterooms (or some really small number) so they will sell them on a GTY status. We never do GTY as we need a HCA stateroom.

4) Name changing - If everyone wants to change the name of the thread then I have no problem reaching out to the original OP to have it done. Just let me know and provide a new title. I am soooo not creative enough to think of one.

It's raining here in NYC. Blech! I was supposed to go to a conference this morning (free) but I think I'll pass because I don't want the hassle of dealing with trying to get a cab on a rainy morning and its too far to walk in the rain (nice weather I would walk - not this downpour crap).

Have a good day everyone!! :)

DisneyMommaSteph

I think changing the name is a great idea....

We can try and come up with a snappy name if ya'll wanted to....but for now maybe just have it be 11/28/2009-12/05/2009 Magic Western...or something basic so that people can identify it....

I would like a name that was inviting....I'd love more ppl who are cruising to pop in and join us without being intimidated, yanno?? Or even something cutesy....Like "Stuffed and Hitting the Seas"...cause it's after Thanksgiving...;) (although...I guess we have some people who might not celebrate turkey day....!)...

Let's brainstorm!

We're getting down to the last month. So close, yet so far away....;)

The other problem with this thread is you have to go thru all the other threads to get to this one if it changes to a new thread and the subscription doesn't catch up. If you are first coming to this thread you have to go thru the other 4 or 5 threads to get to this one, with us on it, which could be frustrating to someone trying to find us.

I know we had fun with the Bananas :banana::banana::banana::banana: and trying to reach top of page last year and that filled up the threads very quickly necessitating new threads. This can be very confusing to someone who isn't up on the boards. Can the old threads be mothballed and this thread be the main thread for this cruise on the cruise meet board under our date? Not that the older threads weren't fun, but it's an awful lot to go thru to find us if you don't know what you're looking for.

Jus checked on the Cruise Meet links for our cruise. The first link for our date is the 2007 starting thread. The second is our 2009 one. If the order could be reversed and the name changed it would probably make it easier.

Re coffee - you ARE SOL. I am a bit of a coffee snob too and the regular coffee in the dining room, etc is that horrible nescafe they serve in the parks and at resorts. The Cove Cafe has Latte's and mochas and the coffee there is a tad better and worth the extra cost but still not starbucks or seattle's best.

Re changing the name of the thread - I am DEFINITELY in favor of this. I had been begging for months for the craziness to stop on this thread so new people would come on since the folks who were posting here were not even going on the cruise. I nearly started a new thread. So if anyone can figure out how to do this I say please go for it! I of course can't do anything since I can't PM.
