Yes, I've made it that way. If I remember right, it took forever to cook but came out great. It was a while back, but I think it took at least 8-10 hours.

I make it in the crockpot every year (the ONLY time I ever make corned beef & cabbage LOL). You put the corned beef, seasoning packet if it comes w/one, potatoes, and carrots in the pot w/ 1-2c water or broth and cook for a few hours (like 3 on high). Then add as much cabbage that will fit and cook it 5-6 more on high.

If you want more cabbage, cook it in the skillet w/ some of the liquid from the crock pot for 30min or so. I can never fit the whole cabbage in the crock pot.

You can google crock pot recipes for corned beef & cabbage...there are tons!! :-)

Just made it yesterday in fact. This is what I did....

Put the meat in the crock pot and poured in a bottle of beer. Then I put water in, enough to finish covering the meat..which wasn't much more.

I put it on high for about 3 hours, then added some red potatoes and let those cook for about an hour.

I did cheat and cook the cabbage in a seperate pot (beause I have a very small crock pot!), but I am sure that if I had thrown the cabbage in the crock pot at the end for a few minutes, it would have been fine.

I thought it tasted great!

You're right!! I forgot about the beer thing! I did that last year & it really did add some great flavor. :-) Thanks for the reminder!

I love using Guiness in mine. Don't make the mistake I did one year and add the whole liter can! Oops. A little too dark tasting. I also add a bit of brown sugar for sweetness.:)

I have one cooking right now. I have never made it in the crockpot till now, I've always done it in the oven (which was hit or miss). I wanted to start it last night but forgot :(. I just rinsed off the meat really well to get the smiley red stuff off, opened up a can of beer (no dark or red ales in my home at the moment!) and the spice packet and started it cooking on high at 7:30 am. I turned it down to low after two hours. I plan on cooking it for at least 10 hours. I hate tough corned beef! It smells yummy! I will add potatoes and cabbage about 3 hours before I serve it.

I just made it in the crockpot but it relaly needs a good 8-10 hous to be good and tender.

I usually cook it in the pressure cooker because it is so much faster!

A simple method of preparation:

Slice one large sweet onion, place in crockpot. Rinse well-trimmed beef brisket (discarding seasoning packet) and place on top of onion. Sprinkle with 3/4 tsp red pepper flakes. Mix 1 cup chicken broth with 1 T Worcestershire sauce and pour over beef. Cover & cook on Low heat 8 - 9 hours.

You can place cabbage wedges on top of beef. We'll be adding 2 cups baby carrots and a cup of frozen small whole onions under the brisket (avoiding the new potatoes cut in half that usually accompany the dish; we prefer Champ).

We may serve it with horseradish sour cream (1 T cream-style prepared horseradish added to 1/2 cup sour cream) and garnished with a bit of chopped parsley. Alternately, you might pour the leftover juices in a saucepan, heat to boiling, add about 1 T cornstarch mixed into 2 T cold water to the juices and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.

i will tell you this, it may come out better in a crock pot or pressure cooker than cooking it regular on the stove. I cooked my corned beef on simmer for about 3 hours in a regular pot on stove and still came out tough. I wouldnt recommend cookiing this way. I have decided not to make it this year until i purchase another pressure cooker.

I always do mine in a pressure cooker, about an hour for the corned beef, then add the cabbage for another 20 minutes.

I made mine in the crockpot yesterday! It turned out very, very good and very tender. The only thing I changed from the recipe is I used small red potatoes, so I left them whole and used enough to cover the bottom of the crock.

I used this recipe

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Corned-Beef-and-Cabbage-3/Detail.aspx

INGREDIENTS
1 medium onion, cut into wedges
4 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 pound baby carrots
3 cups water
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 bay leaf
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 (3 pound) corned beef brisket with spice packet, cut in half
1 small head cabbage, cut into wedges

DIRECTIONS
Place the onion, potatoes and carrots in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Combine water, garlic, bay leaf, sugar, vinegar, pepper and contents of spice packet; pour over vegetables. Top with brisket and cabbage. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender. Remove bay leaf before serving.

Had leftovers today :thumbsup2
