View Full Version : IF you WERE to have a snake in your room, what kind would it likely be???

Reason for asking....we aren't afraid of snakes, but around here, where we live, there aren't any poisonous varieties.
Our first instinct would be to pick it up and carry it out...after playing with it for a while!
So...wondering if that's a no-no, or what the appropriate snake-in-room action is in WDW...
TIA!:thumbsup2
And, yes, I'm serious.....:)

How would a snake get in? And is it in certain resorts or all?
I do not like snakes....

It would be the kind to cause me to scream very loudly and faint :rotfl2:
I wish I never read about the snakes!!! :headache:

Haha, OP, I'm right there with ya. We always love checkin' out snakes when we encounter them! :goodvibes
However, I'm from up north, where you can almost always guarantee it's just a Garter snake.
At Disney World, I wouldn't mess with snakes. WDW is way down south, where there are VENOMOUS snakes like cottonmouths and copperheads. And I just don't want to deal with a bite like that on vacation, do you? :upsidedow
If I found a snake in my room and was unsure of what kind, I wouldn't touch it, but try to lure or push it out of the room with a stick or something. If it got aggressive or just wouldn't budge, I'd probably call someone from management, as I'm sure they have the means to deal with things like that. I just hope they wouldn't kill it! :scared1:
If you have kids I wouldn't even try to deal with it myself - just call management, snake bites are so much more serious for the smaller set.

In the south their are plenty of poisonous kinds so I would not think of getting close to any snake while in Florida. I think they said the one found in the CR was a water moccosin- very poisonous.

It would definitely be a deadly kind.... because I'd drop dead of fright no mater what size!
We have no snakes here in NL at all. Not even garter snakes. (No skunks or raccoons either)
I had never even given snakes at Disney a thought....Until surfing the Disboards!
But that doesn't mean they aren't there. And now that I'm thinking about them also doesn't mean I'll see any. At least I hope not!

It would probably be a water moccasin (highly dangerous), or a black racer (which generally just scare you to death!). I live in the South. I've seen both (and many more kinds) up close. I would NOT corner them, or try to pick them up.

After I realize it was a REAL snake, I would probably faint or give an ear splitting scream!!! I'm from IL, so the only snakes I see are garter snakes. Unless you count the ones in the zoos, behind VERY thick glass! :thumbsup2

You guys don't have skunks or raccoons??? Well I know why! Its because there all here in my back yard in Nova Scotia. I swear, I leave a bag of garbage out and I am guaranteed to look out my door in the middle of the night and find 2-8 raccoons feasting on a night time snack!!!!
I was mentioning to my husband about this snake thing and he laughed and said there were snakes everywhere. Only problem is, I'm in denial, but also we also only have little bitty grass snakes.
I am now petrified about this snake thing. Seriously, it is now causing me anxiety and I wish I wasn't going to Florida!!! I don't think I'm going to sleep well.
I hope that finding a snake is rare. It is, isn't it??

IMO all snakes are deadly. Either the vemon from the bite will kill me or the heart attack will.

I live in Florida, on a barrier island on the Gulf Coast, and the only snakes I have seen are the big ugly harmless black snake..........be that as it may, despite people telling me, "that's a good snake, you want that in your garden":scared1: my response was, NO! NO! I DO NOT! Hubby took care of that sucker, and I did not ask how...... But
if I found a snake in my Disney room, I would EXIT, hit the front desk, possibly climb on the desk, depending on my state of mind, which i think would be :scared1: demand a new room, and after said snake has been removed (which I would have to witness) shake and pack every item in that room, and hot foot it to an interior hallway hotel. Luckily, so far, I have never had this problem at any Disney hotel, or any other hotel for that matter :cloud9:

LOL As my DH would say... SHOW ME THE BODY in our family, I take care of the spidars and dh takes care of the reptiles. Once I told DH that I had got the spidar and he sat back down. Not 5 mins later the little stinker was back where DH could see it.. now, he wants to see the remains so he kNOWS I really got it.

okay i can't remember who it was but there is a person here on Disboard that has had a snake in her room. I can't remember what resort but her and her daughter went back to their room cause the little girl was sick and they found a snake in their resort room.

:scared1: Several years ago we were staying at St. Pete's Beach in a housekeeping unit and a little lizard got in. I was in the kitchen one moment and the next moment doing a split across the top of both counters in the galley kitchen!
:scared1: :rotfl:
The little dear lizzard is more afraid of you, said the housekeeper.
I didn't agree! a couple hours later it was funny...after my heart beat slowed down! :thumbsup2

Somebody asked which Disneyworld resorts there might conceivably be snakes at....I can tell them with certainty only the ones in Florida!
:rotfl2:
oh... and possibility of 'gators... and more lizards. (but they'd surely remove any that were too big or aggressive (gators, that is).

I thought from your title you were asking more of a "what color is your parachute" kind of question....to which I would answer that if there were a snake in my room it would be pink and purple plaid and speak to me in soft tones before leaving without me asking!!!!
I never gave a second thought to snakes in the room either till I saw Disboards!!! Though back in the 90's my mother and I were floating around Typhoon Lagoon when we saw a little black one- we freaked and paddled away for dear life! We flagged the next lifeguard and he scooped it out with a hook.

If I ever had a snake in my room, it better be a rubber one.
On my many trips to WDW, the only one I saw was in the water on the boat ride to DTD. I don't know what kind it was, and hope to never find out! I was staying at POR. If I ever saw one in the room, I would be screaming so loud it would probably be heard throughout the resort!:scared1::scared1: Then I would faint. Now the lizards, they don't bother me.

Last year, as we were unloading our car, a garter snake crossed in front of me. He was about 10 inches long. He was not interested in me, more interested in being stepped on. You have to expect them anytime you have many bushes and hedges around. Trust me, there are a lot more than you think. Given WDW's location, you could see a moccasin near any lake or pond. Disney does a good job keeping the grass low around any location people usually walk.
We have seen many more gators at WDW than snakes though. Every once in awhile, you see one around Rivers of America at MK.

LOL - I'd heard about the possibility of snakes in your room. So, the first time I stayed at the Poly, they mailed me one of those request forms and I asked them not to put me in a ground floor room, as I'm terrified of snakes.
But the trouble is with Disney, the theming tends to make you feel like you're not in Florida. When I stayed at Yacht and Beach, I was quite happy to have a ground floor room and drink hot chocolate on the patio in the dark. It just seems way to beachy for snakes. Then I found out that they even have gators at the BC

How big are those tiles he's slithering on??? If they are an inch each- he's actually kind of cute! If those tiles are a foot- I am cancelling my vacation! :rotfl:

Down there an all black snake could be a black snake or a cottonmouth, but the cottonmouths tend to kind of fade to brown near their bellies if I remember correctly.
Personally if I saw a snake I wouldn't panic, I love snakes. I could spend hours in the snakehouse at the zoo. I was in heaven when I lived in San Diego and went to the snakehouse at the zoo there. I would get it out of my room though, try to prod it into a pillowcase or box or something, then take it outside. I've been bitten by a copperhead, so I'm cautious but I know my snakes fairly well :)

if I saw a snake I'd be the one screaming a running the other way. Don't get me wrong if it is outside on a side walk or away from me I'd be fine with it in a room I'd be afraid

They are the small tiles, it was about 1 foot or so long,
I just got back to my room, after walking POP and taking pic's, and walk in and found this. Didn't sleep to well that night.
Use to have a pet snake, when I was in school, but a few years ago I came head to head with a rattle snake :scared1: , from then on I fear snakes.

That is an indigo snake or a black racer. Indigos are rare, so it's likely a racer. Both are not poisonous.

I agree!! I don't care what kind of snake it is, I'll be running in the other direction screaming at the top of my lungs carrying both DS's in my arms. (Which I know is a bad idea with certain posionous snakes.) I grew up in North Texas in the country and our property was surrounded by rock crushers. It was not unusual at all to see rattlesnakes in our yard. One night when I was a kid while my sister and I waited for wrestling (not the WWE stuff, but back when the Von Erich's wrestled) to come on. I was sitting on the floor with my legs stretched out in front of me when I noticed something crawling along the front of the t.v. a mere 6 inches from my toes. As soon as I noticed it was a snake, I went running screaming through the house and some how managed to jump from the floor to the top of the kitchen table in one jump without the use of a chair. I stood there screaming until my mom came to see what was wrong. She actually had to wake my dad up, my screaming didn't do it. He went and got it out and it was just a grass snake, but I didn't care. A snake is a snake. I can't even go into the snake house at out local zoos b/c I start having panic attacks.
So between April 30 - May 8 2010 if you are on the Atrium club level at the CR, and you see a woman running, screaming, and trying to carry her 12 & 11 yr old boys you'll know it's me and I just found a snake in our room. My DH is an adult he can fend for himself.:lmao:
