Jim, as far as I can find out a pink ID is OK for the military tickets. I'll ask specifically in May when I get mine. You do look good in pink from what I understand.

John, you look good in pink too. And Rog, I'm not going there.......

Hi guys, thanks for the well wishes! I got some good news, some bad news, some really bad news, and some amazingly bad news.

First the good news, I GOT MY LAPTOP BACK!!!! So you will be seeing some more of me at least for a little while....:banana::woohoo::woohoo:

The bad news, My little Indian buddy can't seem to find out what the problem is with my boards, so who knows when that will be back up, but honestly, at least for the next couple weeks, it's not a priority. That leads us too.....

The really bad news, I had an echo cardiogram a week ago, because of a heart murmer that I have had since birth, just a check up kind of thing to be safe for the WLS.... well the doc called me last night and left a message, and said to make sure to call him asap, (that can't be good right?). So I call this morning and the nurse tells me that I have an Aortic Aneuryism and Aortic Valve Stenosis.... and I need to have a CT Angiogram and get with a cardio thorasic surgeon asap. (again, that can't be good) So we stop by their office to pick up the paper work, and the nurse gives us the roport to take with us.... Erica opens it up and starts reading and turns white as a ghost and looks kinda scared (she is a nurse who works in the icu, so I am thinking this can't be good either). Well it turns out that my aneurysm is 5.9cm and from what I understand, 2.5cm is considered large!!!! You guys know me, GO BIG OR GO HOME! :lmao:

Now the really amazingly bad news, from the sounds of things, it's not 100% for sure, but I will probably have to have open heart surgery in the near future. :woohoo: This is above me heart, not the kind below that they can do with a scope, this is a split me open, pop the heart out on the workbench and fix it, stuff it back in and hope it works kinda one.

Sorry, that was a little graphic, but I am all kinds of mentally messed up right now. Thanks for listening, and if you could maybe toss a prayer or 2 up for me!

I will post more tonight.... and keep you up to date as we go along. Talk at ya soon!

vick
03-13-2009, 03:18 PM
Wow John! I will certainly add you to my prayers. That does sound like bad news, but look at it as good news that they found it before it got worse.

Man John ---- you're right, not good news at all. That really stinks. My prayer list keeps getting longer........

03-13-2009, 03:36 PM
Thanks guys, I appreciate it.... :)

On top of all that, it looks like the WLS is on hold for a while as well :sad1: if they don't have to operate on the heart, the WLS doc won't touch me with a 10' pole LOL, and if they do, then it will be a while till I am able to have it done.

Wow man......when it rains, it pours. Im going to have to go back to being religious and have a sit down with the big guy(No, not you John...the other BIG GUY...the really BIG GUY), Im pulling for ya John. Im sitting here thinking of how much of a friend youve been, not only to me...but to all of us! You're one of a kind, bro...we cant be losing you to some BS like THIS!!!

On the other hand...Im glad you got your laptop back and wont be such a damn stranger around here. Your humor and insight has been way too noticably absent!!!

Oh dear!! John...this is not good. Please do whatever it takes to get this corrected as soon as possible. It's so fortunate that we live in a time that heart valve replacement and repairing aneurysms are possible and very successful. You are definitely going to the top of my prayer list. Matt & Erica NEED you, and so do we.:grouphug:

Don't be surprised if the cardiologist puts you on a very restrictive diet that will negate the need for the WLS. We will virtually hold your hand every step of the way, John. Just stay with us so we can offer you our support.

John, I am so sorry to hear this. I'm sure it is very scary. I don't have the ability to come up with the whitty and poetic responses, believe me I wish I could to make you laugh. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I like to think that you are dealt the hand you get for certain reasons. You may never know why, but it somehow leads to new and better things. Stay strong, and be honest with your feelings, trust me Erica is your rock now, trust her. Wives are capable of AMAZING things when we need to be. John....FWIW - Barbara Bush at age 83 just had successful aortic valve replacement! A 78 y/o man at our church just had the same surgery on 3/5 and he's doing great!

If you can get your Dr. to agree to refer you to a cardio surgeon here in Lakeland....you can recouperate at FtW!!! We have a terrific heart center here in Lakeland & a great one in Tampa. Take your pick and come on down!!

You know, John, I sometimes marvel at the world we live in today - the wonderful diagnostic tools we have available to allow docs to discover problems that, even 20 years ago, were often fatal and undectectable. I know when you are a patient, it doesn't help much to hear how frequently done and successful these operations are today, but it's true. You are fortuneate to live in an area with some top notch medical care available to you. Of course you know what a vast and genuinely caring support group you have here. I wish you the best, from the bottom of my heart, my friend. I look forward to meeting you at the Fort sometime in the near future. So comply, heal and do what you have to do. Drive on!

Hey even if you can't get the Doc down there... if you word it right to the insurance company, maybe you can manage to get them to pay for your recovery at the fort!! You know relaxing no stress, blah blah blah... Cant hurt to try right!!
Oh and one more thing for you to remember.... I have this as my banner on my phone and use it at work. "I will Survive". Say it over and over to yourself and make yourself believe that. You have to keep the proper mind set with things so your body and brain know to keep fighting through it all!
And don't make me drive west!!! Oh and I can find you!!:goodvibes

You've been a hell of a bright light the past few months. I'm not afraid to get mushy, but I'd rather see you smiling than crying right now, so I'll keep it stupid. John- You are in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery! I haven't been on the boards for long, but it is obviously a very tight knit group that is always there for each other! My mother always told me that God only give you what He knows you are capable of dealing with- you might not understand it at the time, and sometimes you just have to dig deeper to find the strength, but it is always there. And you have a wonderful support system here as well! :goodvibes

John, I feel for you so much right now...I just have to share. I remember back to a day when I had a terrible diagnosis. I remember the sleepless nights, the worrying for your child more than for yourself. The dread of taking those first steps to recovery, the fear of the unknown.

I never would have guessed back then, that today......I see it as one of the best things ever to happen to me. I was such a child back then. I never had to fight anything so powerful before. I am who I am today because of what I lived through. I feel strong....little ol' me...powerful, victorious....faithful.

I know the future looks dim right now. Overwhelming. Take it one day at a time. Feel the love from all of us. Have faith, fight and conviction! Hold your head high because that is the first step to conquering whatever gets in your path! Remember who you belong to.

At least that's an interesting way to think about it.

I hope the Xanax is working. Still praying for all of us. DH sees the cardiologist tomorrow. Off to check and see if the primary doc did the referral. I love HMOs, I love HMOs. :headache: Now to think positively - I HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE!! :thumbsup2

And thanks for the prayers. I really appreciate them.

Here's hoping that your hubbys appt goes great, I still have to wait till wed for mine :(

Don't you just love insurance companies? I have been fighting with mine already, because my CTA was in Pittsburgh, and they say it is out of network, but no one in network could do it :furious::furious: (happy thoughts happy thoughts, don't want to pop a plug)

Let us know what happens and thank you everyone for you caring!:grouphug:

My DH's trip to the cardiologist went better then expected. :thumbsup2 After the PCP told him he had to get there ASAP, the cardio was like "well... there is a small blockage in the tip of the heart...maybe". Maybe?? What the heck is with maybe?? He said its small enough that it may be a false positive. Okay, I know that's GREAT news but seriously the panic over the last 4 days waiting to see the doc was enough to give DH a heart attack. :lmao:

So he gave him 3 options: a) do that wire thingie up through his groin, ream it out and put in a stent, if the blockage exists :scared: b) take blood thinners in hopes to thin the blockage (?), if it exists or c) do an echo stress test (did nuclear one first) to see if the blockage actually exists. He chose option C. I'm all for finding out if something actually exists before you go sticking a wire into his heart!! So DH went from planning his funeral (did I mention that we panicked :rolleyes1) to saying "I told you so". :rotfl2: Somehow it turns out that I was the one that was worried and he wasn't. Umm, okay whatever let's him get through the day.

Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. Next test is scheduled for after Easter and the cardio was like "schedule it whenever you're free". So we've moved from full blown panic to concerned.

John, praying that you have just as good an appointment tomorrow. :grouphug:
