View Full Version : Pete we need to show Disney our fan powers!!

If Disney thinks they can really do without their true fans then we can show what happens when their fans go against them and turn people away from their parks. We talk so great about them so other people want to go but if we talk bad see how fast those parks empty out and that stock goes flat. Word of mouth from a passionate fan is so great and can go both ways good or bad. Disney get your act together. I love disney so much but I can't afford your cruises, I can't afford Disneyland and I can barely afford to spend days in disney world spending money cause it cost to much. Anything to make us feel appreciated and make us want to keep comming back would do so much more for your company finacially then trying to have people spend large sums of money on things people are not going to buy like 23. You have lost site of Walt Disneys dream. An amusment enterprise where parents and kids can have fun together. That only happens when it is affordable otherwise they go elsewhere that is afforable and spend that money which can go farther. We'll just start making our family memories without disney as they don't seem to need us anyways. :confused3

Interesting post. I'm not sure you would get much support in this effort. Thing is... if we were to all boycott the parks, Disney would basically have to close the parks... then what would we do?
Also... how crowded do you think the parks would get if they lowered the prices even lower than they are now? You'd never get to stay on property again :(
In my opinion, I think Disney's prices are fair. Compare their theme park prices with other theme parks in the country and I think you'll be surprised.

Maybe it's time to stage some form of non-violent protest to show Disney how those of us who feel prices are getting too high how we feel.
It would be ideal if we could stage a protest outside the gates of Disney but I doubt we could get enough people together at one time to do it - and it really wouldn't reflect the entire fan base.
What about an old-fashioned letter writing campaign? What if we all sat down and put together a one page letter to Mr. Iger that expresses our displeasure in what we perceive as a lack of respect for the avid Disney Fan who is a repeat visitor to their theme parks.
I don't think it should be emails. Emails are too readily disposable but I think a ton of physical letters written with passion, respect and ideas for improvement will get their attention. I also think that if you have an Annual Pass you should copy it and include it with your letter - what a very powerful statement that would make.
Anyone interested?

Count me in!
Hand written, on my best stationary.
this is not a bad idea and maybe they would make some changes. The only problem I see is Disney being a huge company it would most likely take time have anything move through them.
But I am all for it.
I'm in!!!!!
It takes a bit more time to get a letter from The Netherlands to the US but i send them!!!!!

Count me in. I think a letter writing campaign is a great idea!
Anybody remember how to write a letter? :rotfl:
Seriously...let's do this and I think we should cooridinate so most of the letters come around the same time, power in numbers, we could all agree to
send the letters in the first week of April or something.

John,
What a great idea, and physical letters must be opened as opposed to some number of e-mails that get reported as X% of messages to Sr Mgmt. When someone has to open the letters it will carry more impact.

I sent a letter not to long ago to Him and the chairman, and the CEO of Disney. I did get a response within a couple of weeks .It was not from any of them, but they gave me a contact number which I can use for this next trip. Sorta like my personal travel agent. I was very upset with the military promo, not that it was not great, but that you could ask ten people the same question and get 10 different answers. I almost lost a reservation& free dinning over it and when they told me there was nothing they could do to fix it, I sorta lost it. It all worked out in the end, but had I not written the letter, they would of never know how upset I was. I am all in. My letter will go out this weekend.

The funny thing is, I tracked these letters and the 2 that went to California were delivered in about a week. The one to Florida, never did get there according to the tracking system. When I got the phone call, they just said they were responding to some letters that I had written, so I really don't know which ones were handed off.

Letter writing campaign is a GREAT idea John! We need to get the word out and maybe put it somewhere on the main board with information if people are interested, that way the whole board would be able to participate.
Sending the letter certified is genius Connie, I can't imagine them having to sign for 100's of letters each day that would get their attention!

I am almost certain they opened that new T-shirt store in DTD in response to the homemade custom T-s on the DIS. I am sure customers were asking where they could get theirs and WDW wanted in on it. I bet CMs would get lots of questions about What is D23 and why is it a bad idea? :rotfl:
I am in for a letter, but I really do think WDW has a thing or two to learn from the DIS.
1. I am hesitant to join anything with online content from Disney. All of their websites are [can't think of a bad enough word to describe how inadequate they are]a waste of time. They have tried get some DISboards action too(Disney Moms Panel forum)- kind of a frustrating site as well IMO.
2. DIS/Dreams know how to treat their users and customers and keep them happy. I think the CMs are lovely- but the corporation as a whole is kind of clueless about how to make people feel loyal.

I would be happy to send a letter. However, I am going to state that I love the idea of the club, but don't think there's enough "bang for my buck."
I was a part of the letter writing campaign to save Pleasure Island and the Adventurer's Club. Although it did not stop the change, I think that it did make an impact. There's so many rumors that PI and/or AC will come back in some shape or form. Who knows if that'll really happen. I do know that I received a phone call from an assistant of a bigwig at Disney from my letter on it.
I'll send a letter along with D23 opinions and changes I think need to be made. Still, I'm also leaning towards joining the group and I think anyone who does should be treated with respect. Sorry, I am not a "sucker" nor any less intelligent because I might want to join.

I like this idea. I wonder if they keep the envelopes for each letter as we do in our office (or the secretary just chucks them, as they do in some) -- I think it would speak volumes just to see the number of different states and countries represented in this letter-writing campaign.

No name calling please.

It's too bad we couldn't create a postcard or something that simply said something like "This postcard represents one person that refuses to join D23 until you give us something worth paying $75!" Sending a postcard is much cheaper than sending an envelope and then you could send one for each person in your family.

If we really want this to have an impact we should get as many people involved as possible. I will mention it on the next show but you all should go out and mention it on the other DISboards you frequent.
Please do not post about it on just any of the DISboards - only go to the ones you post on yourself. Just one post about it and then maybe a link pointing them to this thread for details would be fine.

A couple observations. The letter writing idea is wonderful, especially in this day of e-mail and text messages, sending a physical piece of paper has an impact. Yes, it is easier for there to be text for you copy in your letter or a form postcard or letter. The impact of 20 or 200 letters which all say the same thing is not as strong as receiving letters which convey the same thoughts but are not form letters that someone just signs and mails. I am not saying that the form letters do not have impact, just that in comparison to the same volume of letters which convey similar thoughts but were individually composed, the unique letters make a stronger impression.

I'm definetly in... the problem is... I'm not someone that go to the parks that frequently, when I lived in Peru I went once a year (for a week and half, for about 8 years), now that I live in Italy to me going to WDW is just lots of ££ and $$$, I would love also if they would consider international DIsney fans. Can I still join in (for the letter, I mean)???

They don't even read the unique letters. I sent a letter complaining about mannequins and 8-trax and they sent me back a letter talking about how unique the AC is bla bla bla. I didn't even mention AC in my letter.
But I still strongly encourage this idea.

You never know, just because you received a form letter back, doesn't mean they don't read unique letters, maybe they do, but don't send back unique responses. Can you imagine the staff it would take to write responses to every letter? I could be totally wrong, but I think unique letters might have more of an impact, even if they only read half or a third of them. It think it says something nowadays when someone takes the time to sit down and write a letter.

Keep in mind Pete blogged that he joined up. I don't know that I feel it is worth it, but I am still trying to decide myself. I think the value is terrible and Disney isn't taking us into consideration but I see myself buying the magazine anyway. They can keep their certificate - that is a waste of postage. My letter is in the mail.

I agree. I am going to join for the magazine because I'd just buy it anyway. To get a few other tiny perks and anything else that might come along is just a bonus! :)
Should we mark the outside of the envelope with a "message"?!?
...like "D23 could be better", or "Remember the common man", or "a little money but no respect"
...etc?

A note to all:
I think we need to keep D23 and a loyalty program letters separate.
Does Disney need a loyalty program? Yes. Write a letter to them and let them know your thoughts on this.
They created D23 for those of us who love the history of Disney. D23 was never meant as a loyalty program, that was a hope of the online Disney community and correctly/incorrectly assumed by many as what was coming in D23. Write a second letter to let them know you thoughts on D23, good or bad, but do not mix/confuse 2 entirely different programs into your preceptions of what you assumed D23 was before it was announced.
Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

I think the letter should include exactly what you think/feel on this issue. If you are unhappy with D23 say it. If you think D23 is terrific - say that. If you were hoping for a 'loyality' program for frequent travelers let them know that as well.
I don't think it should be a form letter and it certainly shouldn't reflect a 'group' concensus. The essence of the issue will get filtered out if enough people write in.
I also like the idea if you are a DVC member or Disney Visa Cardholder, etc. to include that info as well. That is powerful information for them to see exactly who is taking the time to write to them.
